Welcoming the excuse to delay finishing his paperwork -if only by a few minutes- Andrew Stockstill put aside the patient file and reached for the newscaster unit. Obediently, it beep'd, and filled the dim-lit office with brightness and sound. Andy squirmed his eyes at the sudden light, and made out the features of a man on the screen. He was pleased to recognize him as Kreevs. While skeptical towards pretty much any form of informative services, for different reasons both with the mainstream and independent ones, he enjoyed Kreevs' reports; if only for the soothing, reassuring quality of his voice. He involuntarily recalled all sorts of disorders and character flaws that manifested themselves as the craving for certainty and reassurement - all in a split of a second, because the next, his train of thought had stalled completely as the newscaster presented the feed of the alien starship. "Hell's bloody bells," he said to himself, eyes fixed on the screen - and his mind blissfully blank. A speaker came to life at Andrew's desk, and an artificial voice politely informed him that the emergency alarm in patient room 5 had been activated. As the door opened at his approach, he glanced one last time at the newsfeed, threatening God or whatever there was that this better be an actual emergency, and not just one of the nutjobs discovering for what had to be the billionth time -that day only- the big red button by the door. As it turned out, it wasn't a prank. The girl from the Fifth had used the lighter from the smoking room to punish herself. Presently, she sat on her bed with her shoulders squirmed close, refusing to look up at him even as he examined her forearm. Andy whisteled quietly. "Third degree burns. Impressive," he said and activated the earpiece, informing one of the 'real doctors' that they had a job. "Ouch!" the girl hissed as he covered the burns with a moist bandage whilst waiting for the doctor to arrive. "Be gentle, it hurts!" Stockstill couldn't hold back a chuckle. "It hurts? What about when you were burning yourself?" The girl laughed in response, and there was the familiar twang of the void in her voice - or so he thought, anyhow. It sent a shrivel down his spine. Stockstill stared at the now-blank screen, oblivious of the words urging him to return to his duties. 'What we are seeing is history in the making... Whatever happens next will change our society forever,' he thought, concentrating in an attempt to fully grasp the weight of the situation, which he failed to do. It was simply too great to comprehend, even more so from the familiar setting of his office. Once again, the universe reminds us of its vastness. Who knew what awaited them aboard that vessel? He now focused on imagining a completely alien creature, something beyond any man's fantasy, and failed there, too. As the newsfeed was playing in his head over and over again, he threw the cold butt of a cigarette into the ashtray -on top of the pyramid that had 'happened' there over the last couple of hours, a monument to his too-weak-to-quit will. 'They -whoever 'they' are- must have made such a long voyage until they found something worth stopping for, until they ran into us; and already, some of us are demanding the ship to be blasted to kingdom come. Fearing the alien, fearing change... humans,' he scowled as he reflected on the destructiveness of their race. Andrew couldn't comprehend how great such a people's hate -or fear, if you will- must be to get the better even of their innate curiosity. 'They must all be mad,' he concluded. 'Out of their heads. They would destroy an opportunity to speak with beings that -judging by the scans- are fundamentally different from us, more so than any other race we have encountered so far. Whatever we might learn from them might offer a new perspective on... on everything, entirely! Only a lunatic can yearn for such senseless destruction-' A face came to his mind. The Girl from the Fifth. Stockstill picked up the pen and, feeling numb, resumed writing up the report on their earlier theraphy session. Meanwhile, in patient room five, Daniela sat hunched over, examining the patch of synthetic skin on her forearm. She could not tell it apart from the rest of her arm; the doctor had done such a great job that she would have believed that it never really happened. Except, of course, that she was now banned from the smoking room.

...the funny state of being when one does perceive themselves so worthless that they do not even care to get better. Ultimate stagnation. Frankly, I am afraid to comment on the topic; it seems to me that only those who experience it can comprehend it, and at the same time, why on Earth would you want to take advice from those. So rather, let me just throw some names and titles here: Anthony De Mello - Awareness Erich Fromm - pretty much everything. Both authors are incredibly brilliant, have insight into human mind beyond my wildest imagination, and somehow manage to be overflowing with compassion and love in their works - each through radically different approach. I would highly suggest you give them a try. Awareness can also be found on youtube, if you're not a big fan of reading. Edit: Perhaps there is one advice I can offer without fearing of messing things up even more; creativity. Now, that doesn't have to mean making art or anything; creativity in the wider sense of the word, from literally creating things to creative (as opposed to passive) relationship to people. It is the only 'cure' I am aware of, and also the only source of actual feeling of fullfilment I know; ultimately, even having fun, whether with friends or with games, is not a creative process in itself and is bound to leave you empty and unhappy. Think of something you'd like to do. Something that means a lot to you, not for what it represents, but simply because you (would) enjoy doing it; then go through the common process of looking for excuses as to why you can't do it, about how the circumstances always put you down, and then face the simple but undeniable fact: none of that matters. You either do it, or you don't. Everything else is irrelevant and but your projection. So screw everything else and just bucking do it.

Whisper Unity - Honestly, I was skeptical when she first caught my attention - I mean, she'd accomplished that via her odd manner of speech, and I was bracing myself for another character centered around their tragic past, demanding pity. I couldn't have been more wrong; Unity is a great character, the kind that has believable personality and manages to be entertaining through it - that is, in a human, relatable way. I'm not sure if I'm getting my point across; she seems like a person, not a character out of TV show, even when you take her 'twin' into the account. Looking forward to seeing more of her. Samantha Mason - I think I've commented on Sam way too many times already, but... oh well, I suppose I can expand. She appears to have truly matured since I first saw her, and definitely for the better - as in, she's grown into a fine, responsible and yet sweet and amusing woman, and appears to be developing her character over time, where other characters appear to be wearing themselves out. Also, in case I forgot to explicitly appreciate it when it was taking place; her dealing with her speech impediment is great, and the time when she was 'discovering hearing' was...just...d'aw. EmPrESS - My, I haven't seen EmPrESS in a long time! She was always my most beloved AI; incredibly quick to respond, helpful, reasonable (thanks for letting me bury Leon the Mouse Cop!) and even kind and amusing without ever ceasing to strike you as an artificial intelligence. I cannot stress that enough; while many AIs can be fun to play with, they usually do so in a way that doesn't entirely go along with the idea of being, in fact, a computer. They usually resort to the typical silliness of 'machines misinterpret/don't comprehend humans/sarcasm/take whatever too literally' - EmPrESS can achieve the same, if not better results without making an idiot out of itself. <3 Uaekis Dicklizard - I was quite curious about Uaekis when I was presented with his backstory. While fairly snowflakey, the fact that it wasn't there just to make the character cool and tragic, but that you were actually trying to work with it, create a conflict within him and so bring forth questions about the actual value of our cultural heritages, as well as spread the lizard lore (very few aliens are played in a way that would really make you feel the difference between their and our culture) - all that made me really appreciate him. At first. It appears to me this most interesting concept had been abandoned soon and not as much as a trace remains. What is left, though, is a character that appears to be absolutely certain that they are the main protagonist of Aurora. I cannot tell whether that makes him a brilliant unlikeable character, or just a bad character, but hell, my shrinks will get him fired. I hear Houssam is a good and interesting character introducing new shenanigans to Aurora, but damn - I remember this one time I needed to contact CentComm in order to save a life, and he was like 'Meh, I don't wanna. Do it yourself.' Coughbloodyxenocough. Edit: Vittorio - I'm sorry, but there's brilliant unlikeable characters, and there's characters that cannot hold their department together. Vittorio is in the other group, plus he swears a lot about it. Perhaps try to hold him back a bit, if that's intentional? Being a dick to your subordinates is one thing; having them arrested for telling somebody in which locker Essel is hiding, that's just ridiculous. (that was ultimately what determined my opinion of him: that was not believable. And not believable means bad RP) Phoebe Essel - Phoebe, eh - well, you know. She's special. While you may be taking it a bit too far at times (similarly to what Lockie does - yelling constantly until everybody recognizes her as the center of events), Essel is mighty interesting character that appears to have quite a lot to her. Too damn bad I'll never know what that 'lot' is, as she appears to have never even considered responding to my characters' attempts at reaching out to her. But, it seems to me that beneath her silence, she actually has a lot of beliefs and convictions and is capable of acting them out, and even most of her moods seem to be well thought-through - or at least to make sense, if that's not deliberate. Either way, good job. Hard to admit as it is, I've grown very fond of your character, even fascinated with her. (may or may not be worth mentioning: her usual remotedness makes her rare nice gestures seem genuine and hence makes them incredibly powerful, in contrast to the rest of the crew, that hugs the crap out of everybody on sight) Anybody got any thoughts on Daniela Baranova and Andrew Stockstill - individually, or in comparison to one another? They were meant to be polar opposites, convictions-wise. P.S. That was SeREnE. And, fyi, by waving that off as merely amusing, you've missed your invitation into one of the most complex sidestories I've seen on Aurora .P

I for one prefer these uniforms over the jumpsuits. Both because the bright red is ridiculous and everything but dignified, and because this pants-shirt selection of clothing makes them look much more like what they ought to be - a corporation security forces. You know. Closer to those old fellas who guard the abandoned warehouses at nights, than to professional military force. Also, tie fetish.

I've punched those numbers into the calculator, and, converting them into my currency, found out that it equals roughly 49 packs of smokes. Well... it was nice dreaming with you, guys. -
Oh-kay So does that mean we are pretty much done here? And if not - could you, please, tell me what else we need?

...until any sort of Aurora server -if ever- is estabilished, I would like to just throw out there that the Eternia server, which I had praised earlier, is apparently coming back! http://starmadedock.net/threads/roleplay-return-to-eternia.4610/ -
Mind if I add a char or two? Andrew Stockstill - An over-analyzing psychiatrist. A man with a mission. Felix Tainalov - The irritable and judgemental fellow who is always chewing on this or that kind of candy. Barbara Adams - "You have to forgive him. Tony isn't the brightest of my children, but-" (long silence) "...Well, he's not as much of a dick as his father, anyhow."

What I meant was, of course, that he does not have any superpowers, making his abilities all the more impressive. Seriously though, the only really good superhero story are the Watchmen. Everything else is cheap garbage. -
Um... no? I just kind of picked what shoes went with her outfit. Hers isn't the same scrubs-and-labcoat as the other two girls. I can change it if you'd like. Nonono, you got it just right - Dan always has this sort of shoes in game. Takes up most of the custom items points. Nevermind, disregard. And thanks for them pics - I really like that you keep tabs on the chars! Can't wait to see more!

Arright. I've been told the bug blood is going to be yellow. So yeah.

Did you... did you actually take into account that Danny always wears this kind of shoes?

I completely understand Peter Wiggin (Ender's Game + Shadow Series, by Orson Scott Card) I most associate myself with Horselover Fat (VALIS, by Philip K. Dick) Not sure how to interpret 'spirit animal'. Also, don't know any waifus/superhero teenage boys. Does teenage Batman count? Edit: Recalled Batman ain't technically a superhero. -

Well... I have no experience with that, and I suspect I don't have the means, either. But yes, it would be absolutely radical solution. ...we could also steal Aurora's lore and somewhat reenact and-slash-or expand some of it this way.
