  1. This is nice and I trust this player with Dregs because they interact with a majority of the dreg playerbase on a regular basis I am personally in favour of *naming the planets* Even if it is an unofficial name named by the people Because... ya know... the players will just give them nicknames otherwise. Like you said yourself the general way Dreg IPCs conduct and build themselves feels off, not that i could help you make it feel more grounded, as I am a terrible writer myself. Maybe mention something about how Dreg IPCs build themselves entirely out of low grade mass produced and bulk bought Prosthetics like you mentioned in the prosthetics part of the rewrite. It would check out how they would be able to exist and give them the "This is the legal bare minimum to be effective in the workplace" look Which I assume is bulky and unaesthetic but of course the Dreg IPCs make it work I think there is potential here... Now on to some of the changes I appreciate most like adding food and culture I have actually been to a West african restaurant 2 weeks ago so that amused me quite a lot. It would be fun to add a layer of Suits on Station/ship that prefer canesugar and pester the Botanist or chef about it. As for the music styles, the idea of the "Boyz 12" ification of just having massive popbands with algorithm approved currently rising stars who can not stand each other with corporate backed band breakups to feed the drama industry in this massive self perpetuating drama sphere tickles my funnybone in ways I can not put into word (clearly) Love the callback to the suited dregs and Ska is the perfect style of music for a corporatised version of rebellion Where everything has been pulled through the sieve the punk of the Dreg ghettos gets turned into clean and enjoyable Ska for the Suits at the top Also For the movie part, I actually made some fanfiction about exactly this when I do like off-station RP in the show Oran Gaucho th- I won't bore you with the details but I basically imagined this is how Eridanian media would be like.
  2. Oh lord this is the first time ANYONE informs me of this AND I HAVE ASKED If you dislike me just tell me over discord or something. If someone had told me at the time and informed me in any way maybe these issues could have been avoided? If you have a problem with me please tell me!!! GENUINELY! I am not incapable of growth as a player or person and if you dislike my playstyle or my conduct just shoot me a quick message. I am available in game, through the BYOND Dreamseeker and on Discord. Nothing bad is going to happen if you send me criticism I am willing to talk and grow from my mistakes. There is no need for you to cancel an entire role from existing and dissapointing dozens of players just because you dislike how I play it That is not a healthy way to address issues Especially because I clearly didn't realise it was supposed to be a punishment for me it is incredibly weird to make such a metapunishment for a player and not tell them about it. Because obviously it flew over my head. The destruction of 2 windoors is relevant here. They did not just remove the table but the 2 Windoors and the airlock seperating them from Botany I did not Discipline anyone I did not threaten anything I was in their kitchen for about 2 minutes I simply told them that next time they request a Guestpass from someone that has access to botany like their manager (who was on staff) I was completely capable of giving them a Guestpass which I informed them off - And then left after telling them tearing down 2 Atmospheric dividers is not a good idea because it could lead to decompression. (foreshadowing) Tearing down 2 Atmospheric barriers in a real workplace strikes me as INCREDIBLY SURREAL and psychopathic behaviour and more like a last resort kinda thing. Like ask an engineer to do it first Ask anyone first rather than doing it yourself The only reason I DID fill the paperwork was BECAUSE the unauthorised/unrequested modification to the station DID lead to a decompression of service and I only did so AFTER it happened if that hadn't happened I would not have filled the paperwork absolving them of responsibility and instead taking the responsibility onto my own shoulders as the person making the change on the executive level. I.E. the level on an investigation trying to figure out why 2 atmospheric dividers were missing during reconstruction. How is me doing all the paperwork to help my workers annoying to them? It was annoying to me They didn't need to do anything and for the rest of the round (i.e. before and after) they didn't need to do anything. I filed the paperwork This is like saying "no one likes to adjust their own access in the Executive Officer's office" Well duh the XO should be doing that The SM should be filing the paperwork for anything happening in Service. The Incident report is because when I handed them the paperwork to give to the XO for stamping and approval they didn't This was the one thing they needed to do, hand the paperwork to a guy while they were unable to work in their department Which means the changes were not approved by service or engineering and they just illegally modified the station causing a decompression of an adjacent department which SHOULD be against corporate regulation. The destruction of 2 windoors is relevant here. (Windoors can not be disassembled at all or easily reassembled) This is not about control it is about saving them This action was done for them NOT to keep my slaves in line with whipcracking. There is a very sober rationale to how I conducted myself that round with a desperate attempt at saving their butts from paying a huge fine for destroying company property (1 Cow xD) I take the station AS A WORKPLACE very seriously and something as major as tearing down 2 fucking walls ain't something I can just shrug off, not when there was engineering on staff and someone to give them access, including the XO who was also on staff. There was 3 ways they could have done this sensibly without smashing down an airtight glass wall And all I did was tell them that, not discipline them, I didn't threaten anything, I didn't allude to demotion, I just told them that. To please ask for a guestpass next time or for an engineer to do it for them This one is specific to me going "hey there is a spill in Medical" I do not see how that is negatively impacting them I send those messages to Janitors in my normal rounds as well. like, when I play any other character. Specified in my application that I have NO intentions to play these roles. I want to play Consular. That is entirely In character. You did not do anything wrong here. It was supposed to be funny that it was mentioned at all. Keira, the person, beeing paranoid for no reason. Also a joke. I specifically used the form to reqest that command make those decisions, not the paperwork command uses like uhhh Like the form you fill out to have engineering make the decision a Request form. Low-level form. It says on the papers that they need to be stamped by the Chief Engineer or the Executive officers This is why you not handing them in was an issue at all If SM HAD command capability she coulda just stamped them and I wouldn't need to hand them off to you so you can make the requests from the XO. it's all a big beaurocratic hassle resulting from SM not beeing command. if SM WAS command I coulda just put the paper in my filing cabinet and be done with it you wouldn't have even known I actually did file the paperwork like I said I would if SM was command. ICly. That was SUPPOSED to be ICly. I had no intentions of filling an IR but I felt now that I had threatened it it would be weird not to go through with it which was very annoying. I was debating putting the IR paper in there but decided in favour of it because an Incident did occur and IR papers that happen during a round are handled inside the round so it would be of 0 consequence Would be sigh A request from Fountain the XO Didn't, I was just telling you that if you do it it is on me, not you. This is not me beeing annoyed this is me beeing technical. So you do not get into trouble if you do it. Specific request from Fountain the XO, you were in danger, I told you to come to the designated Evac point, repeatedly, and I did not push the issue, I was just worried for your safety and trying to move you to the designated Evac point with the barriers. This keeps coming up I literally can not discipline people I have no idea what I said to make people THINK I threatened them this way. Because I literally can not. And I think about my actions. I am the kind of person to fill 6 sheets of paperwork to make sure someone else doesn't get in trouble. I have no idea why I came off as threatening you- Simultaneously I started avoiding Orlova because she was unresponsive to my attempts to check in with her. Because I, as the SM, have no authority to force her to do anything. I was well within my limits and was acting accordingly. Just say no and I stop. This counts both ICly and OOCly Which comes back to my point I made at the beginning of this TELL ME THESE THINGS I am not capable of growth is I am not informed of the mistakes I make. I have been playing command adjacent roles for 3 months now (Freighter Captain - Orion Express Captain - Lieutnant in the FSF) and I have been working on my command style. All of these complaints levelled at me are from 3 months ago and I have grown as a person BUT if there is issues that persist please tell me I can not be expected to If I am not TOLD I did anything wrong. Please. My Discord DMs are open
  3. BYOND key: Diggey Mineson Discord Username: DeGurkin#5455 Character names: (sorted by how likely you are to have seen them around) Zacharias Sneed, Freighter Captain Supsantangwongse Kantawong, Orion Express Courier/Captain Nlom'Kaax Xonq, Freighter Crew/Orion Express Courier Hazel - P.T. 2104.2454, Freighter Crew Otenell Qrblaak, Phoron Researcher Ka'Akaix'Theth K'lax, Hangar Technician/Miner Han Song, Janitor/ Hydroponicist/ Xenobotanist (wooh) Layana Oumarou-Bouba, Personal Assistant Bob Roberts, Assitant Frida Mofette, Bridge Crew X-Avier, Psychiatrist Keira Pfeifer, former Service Manager Passenger How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Actively for the last 5 months, in total for over 5 years. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I have been issued warnings, 3 in total over the the entirety of my time playing. The most serious one I have received was about my OOC conduct with the Administrator in question. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOCly the purpose of Heads of Staff is to facilitate roleplay and give a round a driving push. They aren't the main characters, they aren't supposed to rambo in shotguns blazing and solo the rounds problems. Heads of Staff are targets, they are solutions, they are contact points for lower down players to be able to make changes and finally they are the ones sitting at the longer lever making department affecting executive decisions. Heads of Staff are also on occasion the mouthpiece from players to Staff to change the round in a fun way and from Staff to players to make a fun OOC decision to drive the round in a fun way. Heads of Staff are there for other people to have an enjoyable time. Which isn't to say a HoS is incapable of Violence. But a HoS is so much more fun if you CAN take them hostage or if you CAN overpower them (unless of course there is an all-out war rather than an abduction attempt) We are telling a collaborative story and (within reason) the players playing the Heads of Staff are there as puzzlepieces Other players do something and the Heads of Staff react in a way that makes play fun for all players involved. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Well first off if you Head a department you better know what the fuck you are doing ,pardon my french. If you see a Trainee engineer fumble their way into the SM your obligation is to (either through direct roleplay or LOOCly) guide their hips into setting up the Supermatter. Your character went to college, he knows how to set up the SM, but maybe you, the player, do not. Well you would look to the Chief Engineer's player for Guidance, no? That is their job, guidance. And I do not just mean that in the OOC sense either. You aren't a mook, you are the Administrator of the department, you DELEGATE. A little bit of elbow grease never hurt anyone but you ain't gonna pull no Gas Cannisters around, no sir. Yeah he could set up the SM no problem, but you are learning and he is letting you learn. Apply this to your department of choice. Of course there is points where you need to step up. The HoS is not going to watch the cult win in the firefight for drama points when he sees all the sec officers bleeding out. The CMO is not going to watch the trainee surgeon fumble on a Black K'ois extraction. The Whitelisted player has an obligation to make the round as fun for as many players as reasonable. This also, strangely enough, includes the people working in his own department :'D As I said earlier the Whitelisted player also has an obligation to go along with things This is a roleplay server and nothing and I mean NOTHING hurts as much as having a fun gimmick and someone just replying "no" (within reason of course) The Scientist is making a really dumb request you KNOW is not gonna work? Humor them The Chef is REALLY suspicious? Yeah sure I will see what's up with the freezer (within reason) People have gimmicks and we employ the school of "Yes and..." only rarely do we pull out the "No but..." Someone with a whitelist should only in the gravest of circumstances employ the dreaded "No" The Head of Staff has more information than the rest of the crew curtesy of beeing, ya know, a Head of Staff. You are the first person people go to for answers and you need to make sure no one is panicking when people are flooding into your department asking for help you are there to tell your department about the blob that breached the Nitrogen Tank / about the bombings in the kitchen / about the Flesh-Tendril-Blood-Monster in mining. You need to make it clear what is happening and how your department can help/how your department needs to secure themselves. We do not want EMT running into an active firefight unless they know there is an active firefight. We do not want the Scientists to get caught in the ongoing hostage negotiation in EVA. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Well first off the Horizon launched, first and currently only of it's kind. Biggest of it's kind too, Venator class, a joint effort of the entire Stellar Corporate Conglomerate. If that ain't a career jump I do not know what will be, this is a fantastic opportunity and a once in a lifetime, nay, once in a generation Job posting. Sure there are large installations or technically better jobs but this is not the kind of opportunity allowed to just any old small fry. There is a LOT going on recently (and not just in Tau Ceti) that is relevant in this. The ongoing Crisis in Xanu, the Crisis in Mictlan, the aftershock of the Solarian Split off in the Borderzone, Einstein Engines rolling in to EVERY major crisis and getting shot down These are tumultuous times. As for Calyssia, her home of Pheonixport has seen a major Intergalactic involvement. Calyssia comes from "old money", a family that originally settled in Phoenixport during the initial rise of the City as a "successor" to Mendell City where they started an enterprise scrapping old motor vehicles and very shortly thereafter spaceready craft, Katz Automotive (later Interstellar) eventually got involved into the first Phoron boom where the small one station company would soon make hundreds of thousands working in cooperation with Nanotrasen, in 2417, reclaiming warp capable engines and refitting vessels with bluespace drives. As a business partner and later in 2438 as a daughter firm - Calyssia was 12 when her parents sold the company. Katz Interstellar was no more, their stations were now an asset of Nanotrasen, Tau Ceti Branch. The independance war in 2452 saw a huge boom for business as major players from all around had ships that needed refitting and taking apart for still functional weapons and parts, despite beeing only a small part in the larger picture the Katz's profited greatly from their involvment in the conflict. 2459 Saw a major shift in the political evolution of the Republic, especially their relations with the Sol Alliance, more specifically their complete severance from their former Hegemon and with it economic crisis, piracy was on the rise and with it the gray market for salvaged parts This is where Calyssia saw her rise as a legal supplier of Cruiser-grade weapons systems and warpdrives to independant merchants from Xanu and the Coalition of Colonies, in cooperation with Nanotrasen of course. 2462 saw the Phoron Crisis and with it a great financial downturn for Nanotrasen, so much in fact that the company was forced to divest assets, which shortly thereafter fell into the hands of "Republic Interstellar Flight Incorporated," who would soon begin selling smaller companies and installations to the highest bidder. Which Calyssia saw as her opportunity to reclaim her family heiritage and step back into the spotlight of corporate industry. She bought back the old workshop and Salvage Bay on the Selene Shuttleport over Phoenixport and reestablished Katz Interstellar under economic co-prosperity with RIFI where her business was heavily involved in Salvaging operations in Biesel and with any entity unlikely to want to work with a corporate entity owned by Nanotrasen. For over a year Katz interstellar would work reclaiming old vessels and buying claims in the Reconstruction zone, reestablishing old independance war era stations and taking apart old derelicts to resell the parts on the open market Recently however it was discovered that RIFI was in fact a shell company for Einstein Engines, a longtime rival of Nanotrasen (and with the establishment of the SCC the SCC) and all assets and companies associated with the RIFI were sold off at a massive auction, which of course involved that bay under Selene Shuttleport Limited, just above Phoenixport which was bought up by Nanotrasen with significant financial support from Idris incorporated. Calyssia of course has to face a severe demotion, but as part of the liquidation of her corporate assets has negotiated a deal, due to her beeing uniquely qualified to oversee operations in the Reconstruction zone. In no small part thanks to her previous 2 year involvement in managing reconstruction efforts and her business connections with independants in the area. Calyssia has sent more than one salvage crew to their near death and has so far always managed to turn a near disaster into a lucrative opportunity for everyone involved. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Corporate Liaison, Consular Officer, Operations Manager, Executive Officer. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes, even for pages I have no interest in such as the CMO page. (the main page needs a review and the Chain of Command page does not include Operations Manager and has some grammatical errors (you may will often jump in)(it also implies Assistants do not need to listen to anyone but all the Heads of Staff)) Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Created for command: Calyssia Jiyaji-Katz, Operations Manager Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes Have you linked your byond account to the forums? I certainly think so Extra notes: Calyssia is happily married to Kaito Jiyaji, a man she met on a business council with Republic Interstellar Flight Incorporated. They have two Children, Styliani and Alkinos She is 38 years old - She has been working in the Salvage industry for 22 years (16 years officially) Calyssia has faced severe discrimination as part of her brief stint as CEO of an Independant company The only reason she was allowed a job in the SCC was her fierce negotiating and previous work record with Nanotrasen Calyssia is qualified to fly Shuttles, Corvettes, Cruisers, Freighters and Carriers (though she usually just flies shuttlecraft and Freighters) I wanna see more Corporate Liasons and I am applying for a whitelist for this specific purpose. I do not think I am cut out for high stress situations, I am an Extended main and I say this proudly and loudly. However I am willing to show my RP chaps if it means I can be trusted with playing a Corporate Representative and to go on representing some players in their ongoing storyarcs.
  4. Love the writeup you did, it is very snazzy. Also shows you put thought into your character. The most exciting part about this application is your desire to play Viax honestly. Also that you play K'lax (which are best boys/girls/neuters (the boys do not matter in the sheme of things) I am excited +1
  5. Just want to make sure this is not a complaint about Peppermint primarily- I do not think a warning for crude language is unreasonable. The complaint is mostly about: a Private conversation between consenting adults results in a warning with no explanation which goes on a permanent record despite an attempt at excusing myself beeing made on a first offense. the extrenuous circumstances are what makes me complain about the action beeing taken not about the Actioneer proceeding to taking said action
  6. BYOND Key: Diggey Mineson Staff BYOND Key: peppermint96 Game ID: unsure, Yonnimer was there, it took place 2022 - 05 - 29 at 19:30 Reason for complaint: I think beeing issued a permanent warning, which goes on your record for years, for making the PG version of a euphemism for wasting time with minimal to no warning/explanation, and disregarding my apology, is a bit harsh Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: There are a couple remarks that are quite necessary to understanding what actually happened here. I play a lot of Ghostroles, I think it injects spice into a round without beeing liable to be interrupted by an Antagonist. When I play Ghostrole a player I know and talk to regularly, Imperial Duck, Observes me and we chat in Looc, I know Imperial Duck is over the Age of 18 and as such we talk very casually. This happens very regularly. During chatter it came up that I was forced to handle most of the jobs on the cargo freighter and I , in essence, said "I was busy doing 3 jobs while the captain was busy doing nothing" the exact wording can be seen in the evidence above. I do not think that the H E double hockeysticks version of "Was jackin off instead of helping" merits a permanent red mark on my record. I have seen and done far less PG things on station, from Implied interracial orgies to literal racism/classism. I assumed SS13 was at least PG 13 whatwith the blood and gore and the Flesh-gore tendril monster that shows up every 6 hours. Not to mention the explicit themes of war, loss, Classism and Speciesism with entire factions dedicated to it. Additional Additional info: The captain in question noticed I was tense and excused themselves in LOOC, after the bluespace jump initiated, for stressing me out. I clarified to them that "nah you are fine I am tense because I got bwoinked" and we chatted a little about what happened that round. He of course wanted to know why I got bwoinked so I explained and so long so forth Peppermint came back and told me I was whining, which is not exactly professional conduct. Wether or not I WAS whining is irrelevant. They shouldn't step out of their way to tell me their opinion. It is not professional conduct. They did however tell me I was not allowed to discuss Warnings in LOOC which I was not aware of at the time. This is the point where Yonnimer stepped in and the stress was a bit much to handle for me so I, with express permission of course, Cryo'd and logged off. This is why I can not post chatlogs. I was done for the day.
  7. True as I said it makes a lot of sense especially with Turaif. Just would like for it to maybe be a bit longer :3
  8. Everything is internally consistent. I am just not sure where the Fashion comes from. Other than rich people. nothing about the way the cities work or operate implies to me that the native humans are perfectionists, I do not know where they get their gems from other than imports and synthesisation. It beeing represented in the Turaif fashion scene specifically though I buy wholeheartedly. Just maybe something going more into the divide between people seeking fortune in utilitarian gear and the natives who are above that and are capable of dressing in fancy oxygen suits. It seems a lot of the planet is populated by the destitute and those trying to keep them in check rather than people wearing cool sandveils. Also the difference between perfectionism and an interest in gemstones and artistic stitching. One is more artistically expressive, where if I read perfectionism I think like... Idealised human form with like porcelain masks and shapewear, which does not gel well, but that may be a wording issue as I am not a native speaker.
  9. I am pretty sure their SCS went up over their time in school, they have always been social and very interested in their studies, they have shown great interest in the state mandated religion and have engaged with the religious scripture during their formative years. I would assume it was at least around 5 or 6 (, though I am not entirely familiar with this so if that is too high for a 60 year old please inform me,) which allowed them to apply for a College outside of their regular habitat , using a device that would be specially made for them for that purpose, which would be difficult for someone of a lower social class to finance or even get approved. They have enjoyed the fruits of their compliance and enjoyed many opportunities that aided them greatly in their pursuit of their education! Which of course inversely reinforces their compliance. They are also not a vocal opponent of the Jargon Federation and in the end has decided to apply for a position in the fleet, I think their SCS starting out should be fairly healthy even if they are too busy to actually want to have children (yet) The requirements for beeing a Phoronics researcher specify a low amount of social disabilities and no movement impairment. Which Otenell does not have. Now Humans problably look at this guy with his weird swollen exposed gills with a mild disgust, though of course we have Dionae who are like bugplants who suck blood. I do not think it would interfere too much with their perception of Otenell, though it could throw a few bricks in their path, whatwith requiring special accomodations beeing a thing which is always annoying for anyone to deal with. It's a small hassle, especially if his kit needs maintenance. but this is much like how having a prosthetic arm is a small hassle and should not interfere with how they are treated. Otenell is annoyed. They do not agree or even pretend to understand. But they do not speak up about it, They have been afforded a great life, a lot of money on their UBI and privileges that some of their friends do not enjoy. They think it is unfair, but they play by the rules. They are very excited to play by some other rules. This is an exciting opportunity for them to be under less social pressure to go along with the wake. Maybe working under Zheng-Hu will finally give them a chance to have a breakthrough they have been looking for! If you are outside of the federation you lack some of the basic advantages of beeing a federation citizen, such as a Universal Income, or access to Viv-ID which they love socialising on. They see it also as kind of a drawback, Human nations for example make it very hard to, for example, get a thorough education without going into crippling debt. Something Otenell does not have to worry about. Beeing a Biesel citizen for example has no advantages other than the racism beeing non-constitutional. Beeing ostracised for beeing a frog rather for beeing a Listener It's all the same. Only they get none of the benefits.
  10. BYOND Key: Diggey Mineson Character Names: Han Song, Keira Pfeifer (She'll be back!!!), Supsampantuwongse Kantawong, Ka'Akaix Theth K'lax, Zacharias Sneed, Layana Oumarou-Bouba, X-Avier, Bob Roberts, Ka'Viax Tlili K'lax (deceased) ,Marlowe Phillips (Deceased), Species you are applying to play: Skrell , Xiialt What color do you plan on making your first alien character: A dark brown/green (Seaweed) (around 1B2C00), splotchy - MY SECOND however (which is the application for which I am applying right now) shall be a good old comfortable bright Verdigris #40B5AD Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, twice now. Including Military this time. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Same as last time. Fuckers be goofy yo. (softly chirrups) I just see more of them now since the launch of the Next Big Thing, and as opposed to wanting to see more of them like previously I want to join them. Their mechanics seem very engaging and there is a culture that is very difficult to penetrate as an outsider that I would like to take a part in. When I first got into the lore I immediatly fell into the rabbithole that is the lorepages explaining the way they classify and form interpersonal relationships and I think that shit is cute as fuck-. I decided I wanted to make a Skrell character based entirely on the Social aspects of the race and have let this influence the reasoning behind as to why I wanted to make this specific character. Even hatred and rivalries are seen as a mutually beneficial exchange and I just think that is very wholesome. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I can add a few things since my last application. Other than the stress of beeing a Skrell I can throw in some of the hardships older Skrell have been through that human characters rarely get to express. The idea of peer pressure beeing a non-optional part of life. And ya know, a pool of psychic powers. As I said before, beeing skrell is beeing under pressure, beeing stressed, trying to make do and finding companionship in any interaction. They are exceptionally social individuals which is made very difficult by their near totalitarian government and you can tell even from an outside perspective that they are living complex internal lives despite a general disability to portray this to non-Skrell. I did not lay out WHY it is they are different, just that they are very inhuman in how to play them. again mechanically they are different. from Psionic abilities, to Srom, which is a huge part culturally and religiously. To minor things like roleplaying out how dry your second skin layer is getting and wanting to turn down the AC Eating sour foods and not having teeth so preferring softer foods. Delicious snails in Seaweed Creme. Edit: I have been tasked to snazz this out since "just look at my last application lol" is indeed not really proper etiquette. push your tongue against the top of the roof of your mouth and tense your forehead, this odd feeling in the back of your head? Yeah that's how a Skrell feels all the time, and now add in the fact that emotions will have a physiological effect on them. Humor burns, fear swells, you cry tar when you are feeling overworked, if you've been working for 3 hours your second skin itches and cracks and you need some effing water in your system. You have to wear a Tin Foil hat if you want to have a good night's sleep by yourself (and if you do you must be up to something!!). A preference for sweet and Sour food while beeing unable to chew with your hardened gums so most of the good cuisine is out and you prefer menthol flavoured potato mash. It ain't easy beeing Skrell. This is not even to mention the actual mechanical differences include such things as using Lube to slide around the station (no slipping), beeing able to psionically ping and message people, the reliance on water and the preference for having an AC around, dousing yourself in water, beeing highly squishy and beeing easy to hurt (ba dum tish), They also have a society much less focused on gender roles as they are hermaphroditic. Ideally of course Sexuality and Gender have no impactful bearing on meaningful roleplay unless you wanna start flirting with your coworkers, but I have to mention this part, not because I actually have to, but because I want to underline that they are not human. As a Skrell you are a person and other people are the same person as you, with preferences and decisions they can make to affect how they want their life to go. It is very freeing. Also ya know if you commit a crime you get sentenced by the SCC then the Jargon federation cuts out 5 points from your social credit score and suddenly you can no longer afford Tuna Snax. So it is really important to be on your best behaviour, which only a few human factions can say about themselves. Character Name: Otenell Qrblaak Please provide a short backstory for this character: Otenell was born 121 years after Glorsh-Omega suddenly disappeared, their parents subject to forced labour and sterilisation Otenell was cherished and coddled even as a young tadpole due to the auspicious circumstances that allowed their hatching despite complications of the genophage taking their F'ex'Qa shortly before Otenell's birth. Otenell was born with a rare genetic disorder, a malfunction borne from the attempted sterilisation of their egglayer. They are a Xiialt but are born with a disorder that most commonly manifests in Axiori. A form of Volvuunt Qixqalau that makes it difficult for this Skrell to breathe Oxygen outside of a water rich environment without the aid of a breathing apparatus. Along with the usual risks for injury or infection they suffer from something akin to severe Asthma when without a watertank supplying oxygen rich water to their Gills. As such a majority of their schooling has taken place in underwater Axiori schools where their unique afflication has garnered them many companions and the interest of their educators, causing them to grow up in a very positive happy environment and forming close bonds with many of their schoolmates who they try to stay in contact with even to this day over Viv-ID Subject to experimental treatment in suppression of their parents Psionic ability Otenell was born a Listener though through rigorous training in the Reef Garden managed some level of proficiency in their natural gifts, especially around the more psionically gifted Axiori who would want to challenge Otenell recreationally to better themselves. Always obsessed, even from a very young age, with the stars Otenell decided to dedicate most of their education to furthering their understanding of these phenomenons, something that is exceptionally difficult in the Reefgardens deep deep Underwater, relying heavily on the well documented phenomena and historical observation of the Axiori Lu-Qsi Upon reaching their 60th Birthday they transferred to a Depth College above the waterline and dedicated themselves entirely to Astronomy and Astrophysics going down a long and arduous rabbithole touching every specialisation from atomic physics, to chemistry, to astrophysics, to astromechanics, to mechanics, to relativistic theory, to quantum mechanics, and finally, after years of dedication: Bluespace Mechanics. It was in this Depth college they finally reached their title of Star Graduate, something prominently displayed proudly on their Viv-ID (Qu'vesi Otenell Qrblaak) Despite having achieved far greater things since then After their stint in the Depth College Otenell applied for a research position in the Jargon Fleet due to their great knowledge in Astrophysics and applied rocket science where they have since worked for 20 years. However due to beeing a Listener their funding into phoronics and bluespace mechanics was slightly adjusted to make their work difficult, even more difficult than what working within an area with no naturally occuring phoron already was. And as such they lept at the opportunity to participate in the Jargon Federation work exchange programme to be able to work on the SCCV Horizon, a vessel notable for it's main mission beeing to search for additional phoron in the Galaxy at large. A thing they take with great sourness, as they have already missed their friends and family beeing part of the research fleet without beeing so far away. What do you like about this character? I myself tend to go down endless rabbitholes when committing myself to researching something and a young-at-heart supernerd, while not uncommon on the Horizon, is a type of character I have yet to play and think would have a great time playing out. I also want to engage myself more in the Science department so this is a perfect opportunity to do so. I added in a made up disorder that I think I can play out fairly well. Why? Because I play Vaurcae, needing an oxygen tank (and more importantly a mask) on me at all times is second nature to me so I can roleplay out genuine concerns and be fun for the other Skrell to gawk at while making it easy on me as a player to manage. And beeing a curiosity (I hope) will be well enjoyed by my Skrell colleagues. I am a typo machine but my characters are well played and well acted and I think I can enrich the station with my RP I am STILL polarising. people either greatly enjoy my characters or suffer silently as I accidentally talk over them because they type while I type and do not engage my gimmick and AAAAAA it usually gets very awkward. BUT people that DO enjoy spending time with me greatly do so. Notes: Otenell is now 161 years old Otenell seriously considered joining the church but decided that dedicating themselves to the mechanical aspect was more up their alley than fully embracing the traditionalist lifestyle and viewpoints of his close friends and contemporaries. Otenell has a Axiori partner who they send romantic pictures to
  11. So usually the idea of the Whitelist character beeing a burner is a huge fucking red flag, but have you ever seen Colfer play pAI? Play Drone? Best fucking boy. If this serves anything I want to at least see them get a chance to see how they do. I have faith they won't at least fuck it up and at the least we will get a head Researcher showing up for fun gimmick rounds. Science is underrepresented in command. +1
  12. I love pAIs but playing as them is always very "I am at your mercy" This would at least let the pAI be at their own mercy a little bit. I like it.
  13. Hi, the Vaurca here to clear some things up There seem to be a couple issues with lacking information on all sides here, as such I will not use this to +1 or -1 I am here to clear up some facts Completely intentional, Theth was vomiting all over the place, handing a Vaurca worker a weapon for any reason other than to show force is a poor idea. Not like they were actually incapable of firing accurately but the idea of conflict stresses them out to no end. Stress was a main factor in the portrayal of the character that round and I tried to keep it as meek as possible for keeping the players safe from my insane ass OOCly who would have fired at Pavlovich the moment she entered as she was marked as "physically incapable" and started barking at the receptionist. This is the entirety of the information all of Operations got. inaccurate. This is important because it plays into the perception of the player OOCly and the handling of the character ICly. I was taking very specific care to check who was an antagonist, because I had no idea what the fuck was going on, and if Malcolm was the Antag I would have had to help Bisenti (neither were antags so this was a fruitless endavour) McGulby did not speak up when Bisenti disarmed Theth He had a full conversation with Bisenti who at this point was holding a lethal anti-personnel weapon that was not issued to him. McGulby did not object. Mike said that he wanted his department to have access to medical, at this point all the information Operations had was that "the entire department is compromised" McGulby replied that the Medbay has been designated as a Safe haven and as a no-weapon zone unless you are trusted by the captain. He Informed Mike Bisenti that it was blue alert and to "please drop the weapon if you want to enter medical" Mike replied (and I quote loosely) "Okay, where do you want it? Head or belly." - Implying shooting the Operations Manager in the Head with a gun he just stole. Theth at this point only had two reference points: Ringer was dying in the Medical Lobby, His Boss (who has been nothing but helpful) is trying to keep medbay (and Theth's assigned partner) safe. AND. The ENTIRETY of the Security department was compromised. And he just threatened the request to please enter the safe haven unarmed with "do you want to die fast or slow?" As a result he merely pushed over Mike and ran, trying to safe his colleague, his boss, and finally the entirety of Medbay. --- I was under the impression that Security was playing it smoothly and trying to trick their way into medical. Multiple of them were vampire thralls and that Mike Bisenti was the Head Cultist This was a wrong impression but the impression I got from him Mind you me and Ringer were on the Asteroid mining for 1 and a half hour we didn't even know the ship was in red alert, and the first 15 minutes back aboard were spent carrying his dumb ass to medical after we dispatched of a space eel. So we had 0 context for anything going on --- My character is shot in the lung by the IPC, I run to operations, I get treated with supplies in the warehouse, we realise the implant is damaged , typical round all things considered, IPC comes in to try and kill me for the audacious crime of pushing his boss as he was threatening to summarily execute a Command member for the crime of safe haven It is all a big clown show at this point --- Here comes the kicker. We needed to get the implant fixed, but the Hangar Tech was new, they didn't know what to do or how to get me to the machinist, so they put Theth in a chair and rolled them to medical. Mike Arrested both. Mike decided all of Operations was guilty of crimes against the crew and needed to be arrested. This is where I thought FOR SURE that Mike was an antagonist. Going to do this word for word because just me saying it sounds like Slander. ... Mind you I was on the Asteroid for an hour I was not aware Mike was just in surgery and I sure as fuck wasn't a cultist while on that rock And he let out his frustration of beeing hurt on a random crewmate who he denied medical aid????? Anyways, after what feels like 5 minutes of awkward silence and staring while I was actively pleading for my life one of the Cadets wheeled me over to the EMT terminal where a Skrell and the Captain did surgery on Theth I was so fucking sure that Bisenti was an Antagonist at this point I expected him to sink his fangs into me and suck me dry. Nope This is normal Bisenti performing his duties normally as a normal HoS where he is taunting a hostage who is actively pleading for their life after they.... pushed him... for threatening to execute their department head. --- Sorry I got a little heated there. This isn't an attempt to discredit his ability to handle security issues i just wanted to make it clear that this was not a cut and dry case of McGulby beeing unreasonable. If McGulby had been randomly threatening people then Theth wouldn't have pushed Mike. --- Arb was in a very high stress situation and he was seeing connections where there were none and trying to stop the cult all means necessary. I get that. I definitely am not qualified to handle a situation like that and he actually leaves openings for antags to do shit I couldn't have pushed him if he didn't let me push him. I actually fucked up and he waited for 1 tile for me to catch up and try to push him again. He is definitely playing the narrative role of beeing a command member very well and he makes the game more interesting than 180 no scoping the unarmed vaurca for standing up and walking up to him xD
  14. I am sorry if my writing is incomprehensible, where is the confusion?
  15. I actually made that suggestion in in here same. Again, never once said they need more authority, actually explicitly stated I want them to have the authority they currently have Also explicitly stated Yeah well see this is the consequence of not having a Service Manager, the fact that the department is heavily hands off culturally. Things like "You know that you can't give out drinks for free right?" are seen as a hassle and not as an opportunity Someone to look over (for example) the price sheet or to negotiate interdepartmental exchanges could really liven up the place. What you are suggesting is someone who stands in the kitchen and does the Kitchen job, not a Manager. if you think that the role shouldn't exist because the role isn't what the role is then I am hardpressed to agree but that is not a constructive arguement over the purpose of the role.
  16. Well I am not arguing that they should have more authority. I want them to have this exact amount of authority. but I am arguing that it is a pretty large role to be giving out freely. Well the Service Department also handles bounties and if the other departments wanna play along you can also ask for more outlandish things. The reason this doesn't come up is because no one has done it, but that doesn't mean no one SHOULD do it. While you are 100% correct ICly you gotta remember that these mechanics represented in the videogame are not simple-. I am arguing not for a SM beeing put up the line of command I am arguing that this low respect role still needs moderation as to who is allowed into it.
  17. Technically this is already a thing with the bounty list from the Quartermaster BUT I AGREE THO This sounds very good.
  18. The Empty office above the Chapel is of course there for merchants or Assistant Gimmicks or Traitor gimmicks to set up here. But It is right above the chapel. This would be a perfect spot to put the Service Manager's Office, which currently has literally nowhere to go despite having access to the entire ship.- Would give the SM closeness to the OM and be thematically appropriate because most of their department is in the southern part of the ship It also would put their office disconnected from the Bridge while still beeing on the same level as the bridge and would put people starting as Assistant in the lounge area something to look at
  19. I have talked in the Discord about this but really wanted to bring this to the forums for discussion. The Quartermaster role on the Aurora station was always intended to be a command position without a whitelist Just like the Head of Security it is not any more mechanically dense to be the Quartermaster than to be a Cargo technician, than to be a Security Cadet. There is some new mechanics but it is mostly about having a good grasp on these mechanics and beeing able to have a fun time managing everyone's workload. Now we get to the crux of my arguement. Which I have not made yet. The Service Manager controls the Chapel, Janitorial, the Library, Botany, Bar, Kitchen, to a limited degree Assistants, In character Events like birthdays holidays or other celebrations as well as providing a link between command staff and Service staff as the paperwork machine. (Just like a QM who ideally has to stamp all your documents you lazy fuckers) These departments are all Incredibly mechanically dense They aren't all difficult, but there is a lot of mechanics. other mechanically dense roles include the Research Director or the Chief Medical Officer (or the Chief Engineer) Most of the time these roles need to know every mechanic in their department to help their interns along in becoming self governing. And their mechanics are often a lot more precise and difficult to actually know 100% about and why they work the way they do. The issue is the Service Sector does not have interns, so any one of them may need help without a big green label on their chest. I could see how Quartermaster was not a whitelisted role earlier but Service Manager has a lot on their plate that other non-whitelist roles do not. You need to know (roughly) : a SM has to handle 12 players 7 of which are bald with a random name and 2 of which are traitors also the barman doesn't know where the alcohol is and the Janitor just went SSD inside the crusher while the Cultist round just started inside their chapel I love the idea of a SM not beeing command staff. That is great. and interim role without the sway or power. We know for a fact that the department can function without one, because that is how it used to be, but just how the Cargo department can work without a QM the Service Department does without a SM. I just don't think that such a mechanically dense role is good to give access to without a Whitelist. A SM has full access to botany, and their chem master and syringes, the kitchen and freezer, the bar and their toxins and janitorial access to half the station as well as access to the bridge through the kitchen stairwell. I am not saying the role is too overpowered to be given for free but I am saying exactly that. it is rife to be exploited for griefing and too important to be handled by someone who doesn't know their shit I have experienced bad SMs as my bartender character (the reason why I wanted to make her a SM) and the role really sucks to other players when the player in charge doesn't know their shit.
  20. The Empty office above the Chapel is of course there for merchants or Assistant Gimmicks or Traitor gimmicks to set up here. But It is right above the chapel. This would be a perfect spot to put the Service Manager's Office, which currently has literally nowhere to go despite having access to the entire ship.- Would give the SM closeness to the OM and be thematically appropriate because most of their department is in the southern part of the ship It also would put their office disconnected from the Bridge while still beeing on the same level as the bridge and would put people starting as Assistant in the lounge area something to look at
  21. some mad drip, not sure on the emotional thing but I like the idea of it beeing toggleable by the user Kinda like some of the Vaurca emotion facemasks, the tech deffo exists in universe so this sounds just about right.
  22. I slept on this because of course my first reaction to this was Hostile Questions sprung up such as "Why is this person leaving such a scathing review before even the lorewriters got here" and "Doesn't one of the admins muddying the waters like this intimidate future correspondents into leaving no review at all even if they hold me in a positive light?" To be sure it left me very hurt and worried, worried for the fact that I have left such a bad impression. For example I am passive-aggressive and more importantly detached/heedless in the way I talk OOcly this is a fact about me and it is good that you see this as a point of contention, you are valid in bringing this up as a negative point, especially if it annoys you personally when working with me. But The statement that I flatout am incapable of Differentiating IC and OOC is a rather crass observation, because it is not specified "at times" which to me seems to imply that at any point you took notice of me that I was personally affected IC by OOC issues, which is a point I personally take great care to not let flow into my roleplay. (exceptions include avoiding talking to people who do not enjoy my characters because I want them to have a fun round me in or excluded) The Tip-toeing around rules specifically has me greatly worried because I am not aware of any rules I am circumnavigating, I was under the impression I was behaving normally and adjusting accordingly if an issue accured, even taking great steps to reconcile with people I may have hurt in the breaking of rules. I am not trying to intentionally break any rules and If I am doing so please inform me. And lasty I will reiterate Putting this at the front of my application rather than waiting a day greatly poisons the water.
  23. I have been informed by a friend that Einstein Engines has a lot more dirt on them than I originally believed, so much so that it is concerning to me how they operate I can make a lot of adjustments to the character, but the easiest ones would be beeing Haephestus initially and the parents making a concious decision to raise their child outside of the Jargon Federation and Litt'Kaax wanting to return to his grandmother nation out of a sense of obligation and belonging due to the stark difference human culture places on merit over how the Jargon Federation does. Yes, even in this capitalism hellscape. You just don't get the right acknowledgement, they see money as worth more than clout you see, money is an inheritable thing though, merit is not.
  24. I was under the impression that Sexual intercourse was a recreational activity that involved the headtails and that much like a reptile the eggs are not lain until fertilized So that the egg was fertilized but not noticed until reaching a stage of maturity where the Aqi’qa would take place, after laying, a Stage of developement which would be too far along in the lifecycle to be sent off to a different quadrant of space as this is considered a part of their Schooling, and at this point they would already be considered a Citizen if and when and where it would take place. I was falsely under this impression, obviously. I can ammend this, the exact age where they would be sponsored is not as important as the timeline of events I was under the impression that with the reaching of physical maturity one would already be in a higher institute of learning due to the strict upbringing of the Skrell I was imagining that a completed Untuk'mak at age 25 would be reasonable. Ya know? And that the Human who does not know about the specific culture would offer them a Trip to the bright place in the stars as soon as the parents "say they are ready" and of course the Bright (or dark in this case) eyed Skrell agreeing hungrily for a chance to get into university as quickly as possible. It is mentioned explicity on the Europa Lorepage that Idris runs the second most profitable industry on Europa, which is tourism. Idris does not provide Engineering services, as such it is safe to assume Idris hires out other companies to do their Engineering work, like the NSS Aurora, which is run by Nanotrasen, hires out other companies to do their engineering. If idris would not hire EE on Europa then it is safe to assume I can skip this step in the background and just have him be a longtime Haephestus employee, which would certainly make things easier for them, especially since EE is kind of reviled, so it would be easier to be trusted. This was an intentional roablock set to antagonize the character against Heads of Staff, to make things more interesting Roleplay wise. Most noticably Einstein Engines built a big ol' jumpgate in Sol, and most noticably a bunch of Skrell died, causing an interaction with a Jargon Federation Cruiser was it? Cruiser I think. Litt'Kaax is afraid this will cause hostility towards Skrell and may make their Home system Hostile towards them and their kind. (even if this fear is unfounded, Skrell are longterm thinkers, short term this is obviously an unreasonable thought, but considering how it "could play out" they need to leave NOW) That was not the impression I wanted to give at all, I specifically wanted to point out their strongly biased view on interpersonal relations and their focus on Hierarchy which is very unhuman to me. How their parents strongly molded their view of the importance of others in the actualisation of the self and how they suffer for having a lack of other Skrell to compare themselves to and to try to connect with humans, not be a Human, their end goal is Jargon Citizenship afterall, the quest for Skrelldom is part of them and to abandon that for whatever it is that humans represent wouldn't make sense I even mentioned how he will do skrell things quicker than other Skrell because he wants to skrell harder than non skrell (sometimes falsly so in an attempt to fit in more with this "new" society he is trying to integrate into) I know my english is not that good but that is explicitly stated. I do not get where you get "This one will be like my others" I said "my playstyle works well for how Skrell are" They do plan to renounce their Sol citizenship They plan to Jump ship to Biesel, then jump ship to Jargon. They are afraid of what Sol will do and how that in turn will reflect on them as a longtime EE employee and Citizen They are actively trying to cut ties with humanity Again a misconception about how fertilisation works and at what point in the lifecycle the egg is laid. Sub-Contract does not mean Daughter firm. This is literally a google search away Sub-Contractors are not part of the same company I do not know why you brought this up It is literally the concept behind the SCC Qualifications. Receiver, though their time on Europa has greatly influenced their perception of the Wake, where their parents and guardians were more devoutly religious and scientific the long lapses of time between Underwater settlements have created an environment of a wake consigned to a single Vessel, with all participating beeing those they grew up with, occasionally feeling glimpses and pings of those around the ship as it passes underwater life, connecting more to the general wake of the Moon than the wake of specific communities Whereas his upbringers consider themselves observants of the Qeblak Litt'Kaax considers themselves to be more in tune with the spiritual aspects of the faith, spending most of their formative years under the ice without direct view of the stars, their connection to the spiritual is less literal and scientific and more a nightly experience of other beeings drifting past as they take their hiatus from work. They are well learned in the constallations and took a lot of their time at the University, suspended in space, looking out at the stars, but after reading up on them they consider themselves to be more of a observer of Weishii than a strict follower of their ubringers faith, a decision they have come to after personal deliberation and research. I didn't know where to put this in the original application since it specifies the "short" backstory and I already spent too much time on the conception rather than the person. Considering they wanna jump ship? Higher than that of the Sol Alliance that's for sure. Litt'Kaax is not a huge fan of governmental censorship and the ostracisation of those who have not accomplished much, but from birth held their mentors in high regard, and more importantly held excellence and achievement in high regard, it was their desire to go to university and follow in the footsteps of their primary mentor and their desire primarily to seek not only a basic graduation but a complete understanding of their field as a Submarine technician before returning to the position. This is not just a pride thing, this is a self imposed expectation of excellency that is deeply ingrained in their upbringing and ideals. The idea that one day they may move into Jargon Federation space and take up a position of some amount of respect fills them with a warm swelling feeling that is hard to describe. But they wouldn't exactly call out any of their most recent actions as completely unreasonable. Which is in contrast with their solarian contemporaries. As a matter of fact they are fleeing their "country" because they do not disagree Litt'Kaax read about Glorsh-Omega, they did not experience it, their Upbringers did not experience it. What is important is that they do not have souls and should not be considered to have such, no one will argue with this They are tools and they should be treated as such. And of course, as with anyone reasonable, they should not be given full authority over anything a supervisor can not also handle. A Supervisor with a big red "Turn off -> Delete -> Cleanse memory -> file as defunct -> Alert authorities" button god Beauchamp, he is a bit of a joke with a friend of mine. like Jesus if this is happening just Galactic north of Sol then you better jump ship immediatly Beating innocents, killing millions, Xenophobia, corrupting others to follow in their suit, war, hindrance of progress Like "What are their thoughts" I can give you a hundred answers, based on faith and Acceptance/tolerance, based on personal interest as a Skrell in human space, based on OOC ethics that subtly influence my IC views What do they think? Beauchamp is a Pirate, but like, in an uncool way. And does not represent humanity. BUT. He does represent the Sol Alliance a whole lot more than he does represent Biesel, he attacked Biesel, so Biesel is a safe haven from him and his associates.
