Look at Eridani. A planet or culture where augmentation is intrinsically tied into the lives of people, not in a weird "I think robots are gods, actually" way but more of a "I was brought up this way" or "The state requires me to do this" way. The latter is far more palatable than anything tied to religion. If you want to see how often people are called crazy for their religion, just look at Dominia - it's not even remotely as weird as the Trinary (the Tribunal is essentially an ultra zealot Abrahamic religion spinoff) and Dominians are still seen as extremely weird by 90% of server characters for it. This attitude towards them is not even tied to the aggressiveness of the religion: Trinarists get the same kind of weird looks. A well-written planet or culture where these are tied to the lives of people in a way that doesn't include the issues outlined above. There are infinite answers to this question and I'm not really going to go over many, instead I'll just point at Eridani as an example of what could be: augmentation there is a symbol of status and potentially of servitude to your corporation. You can extrapolate this to the state or whatever.

This was because aut'akh got mechanical augments before humans did, which made zero sense. Humans already had subtle transhumanist movements: Eridani, for one. I say subtle because augmentation was written to be encouraged in Eridani lore, but it's not really that persasive in their society. Transhumanism is better done without any religion tied into it -- essentially, it needs to be something that a character can pick up and still be normal in the lens of others (with rare exceptions, like Dominia). Just look at the Trinary Perfection as an example: it has maybe two players total at most at any given point in time because the whole premise is wacky as hell. This doesn't really deviate enough from the Trinary in my eyes, and it'll end up in the same way (basically unused and underrepresented) for reasons already stated above.

Kaizr's Command Re-Application - Director's Cut
MattAtlas replied to Kaizr's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
How often have you been playing lately, and on what timezone? I remember seeing you at least a few times back when you were on trial every day, but now I don't see you around anymore. -

I highly suggest making a new character in general, considering your comments on your own character here and everything else I've said before. -
Lowpop did not improve in player count when the station started with a full SMES. People don't join rounds because of the lack of population, and it's a self-feeding cycle that you can't actually break.
-
I can foresee this slippery sloping into people doing shit they shouldn't be able to, so I'm not a fan of it. In general, this thread just proves how unsustainable lowpop is and why it's not really ever considered for balance. The game hardly works on lowpop - adding solutions to fix a problem on lowpop pretty much always ends up causing more issues for high pop (see engineers complaining about having no roundstart setup) later on, without snowflake code. Considering we've already reverted the SMES change, I don't also want to revert the revert, otherwise we'll keep doing this forever and ever.

How exactly is a bartender/janitor/shaft miner character becoming a head of personnel? This should have been asked during your last app, but it slipped my mind completely. What do you mean here? -

Staff Complaint regarding: Rooster teeth

I looked into this with @Faris's help and we came to a resolution. First of all, Voigt ghosting like he did was an issue, and it was handled fine. The administrative action he was given follows the escalation procedure we usually have. It's not really appropriate to ghost right after something like that happens, because by playing secret you're still consenting to potentially putting your character in these situations. Adminhelping for permission is fine, but you should wait for an admin to reply first. Secondly: This is not really entirely correct. When something like that happens, we should try to make up for it because our job is also to put ourselves in others' shoes. The vampire did just spend like 500 blood on a thrall that instantly ghosted, that's a massive amount and severely handicaps them against security. You should have called for an administrator to fix their blood. Thirdly, the issue of Voight fighting back. We think this is not a problem: like Rooster said, vampire blood sucking's effect on people was severely nerfed in this PR: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/7884. Vampire blood sucking only removes five units of blood per tick, as opposed to 25 units before, and a human has about 560u of blood in their body. We can't really tell how much you drained exactly from logs, but it's extremely unlikely that you drained enough to incapacitate Voigt in any reasonable way. It takes something like below 50% blood oxygenation to incapacitate a human, and before that you don't really get any bad messages that could form the basis for a pain RP claim. The most you get with severe blood loss is "You feel extremely woozy/dizzy" and some blackening of your vision, and that's assuming that you sucked them for long enough to get to that point, which is again very unlikely. That makes him fighting back a fair endeavor, in my eyes, since you specifically chose not to use your other tools at your disposal (like your screech, or glare, or a gun, or simply setting your blood sucking to 'forget') to incapacitate him: Voigt didn't really have any indicators that would indicate how weak he is, but it's possible to create a suggestion thread or a PR to change this. -
I like it! Accepted.

The feedback here is a bit lacking. How often have you been playing, and have you been advertising your app at all? -
Apologies for the really late reply, some discussions plus life happened. Accepted.

I quite like this. Accepted.

Oh, the accessories are fine, it's just the labcoat that we think is a bit "contrasting".
-
I spoke to the skrell lore team about this item - it's really cool, but some of them believe that the color layout on the purple/white coat is very close to the Zeng-Hu colours (of the labcoat too). Is it possible that the two colors could be inverted, or the purple could be made darker?
-
Give it a try, the sprites aren't half bad.
-
Alrighty then! Am I good to move this into the archive?
-
See, here's the issue: normal custom items can and are often character-specific items, or items with a character-specific twist to it: at the very least, you can make a compelling enough argument to go "yeah, not many people would have this" and leave it at that. This isn't really applicable to AI displays is the problem: they're not really character-specific and can't really be. I guess this is fine.
-
I think my only concerns about these are: a) whether implementing custom AI displays is even possible, which I don't think it is at the moment, but I may be wrong; b) why this is a Borealis-specific thing and why these shouldn't just be added as AI displays for everyone.

Alberyk Deputy Loremaster Application
MattAtlas replied to Alberyk's topic in Developer Applications Archives
See the second part of the post: it's intentional that you don't have to step down as a species lore dev if you become the deputy loremaster, so it doesn't make sense to -1 someone for it. -
Alberyk Deputy Loremaster Application
MattAtlas replied to Alberyk's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Being the loremaster and a maintainer of a species is impossible, as it says in the lore doc that you must step down as the maintainer of a species if you get selected as the lore master, but this doesn't apply for loremaster deputies, since they're still under someone's eye (the lore master). -
