BYOND Key: ajstorey456 Staff BYOND Key: alberyk Game ID: bRl-dJ4t Reason for complaint: I logged into SS13 after a long day of internet and power issues to see I had rolled Head Loyalist as a sec officer, accompanied by a Head Loyalist HoS. Oh joy! The round gets going, and CommanderXor is in the AOOC, coining up a cool gimmick as he always does. Love that guy. So we agree on a "War" that has broken out on other ships and space in general, involving Vaurca, Tajara, and Unathi. It's all vague for the sake of being vague, but on with the story. Some stuff develops, we're throwing the aforementioned races into the mining concentration camp because they're subversive elements, and apparently, a fleet of Lii'Dra are making their way aboard. Alb had intervened with our gimmick because, I don't know, it smelled good, and decided to have some actual Vaurca soldiers attack the station. Fun and all, but I'll complain later. Me and the HoS go to investigate the sublevel, mostly near command dock, and of course, there's signs of a boarding crew. Broken windows, crowbarred open doors, a docked boarding crew ship, it all pointed towards SOMEONE IS ABOARD. Now, at this point in time, power had been out due to the powernet failure event, and with it comms, so me and HoS are of limited information here. We're doing our sweeps and we get to medical, where suddenly, HoP directly warns HoS about the Vaurca being seen near AI upload. At some point a combat borg joined us to, so me and him turn around to go check it out, and suddenly I'm dead. Before I could realize what was happening, two ion bolts had hit me center mass and I was out like a light that was hit by a massive EMP gun. I believe it was TomiixStarslasher playing a Lii'Dra boarding crew Captain who did this to me, but this is about Alb, so on with the story: I ahelped it! I was like, bro, I got ganked in maint. Alb was like, bro, it was justified you were holding a gun and there was a combat borg. I said, bro, I didn't even see them until I had ghost vision and he wasn't having it. My intentions when I saw the raiders was to talk with them, because this is a HRP server, no? I wanted to ask them who they were, what their intentions were, why the War had to effect the Aurora, and I was filled with glee when I found out that the boarding band was right near us only to have it drained from my body by an Ion gun. Now, if I know how to read, the fourth big rule is No ganking. "While antags will sometimes kill, it is expected for you to provide interesting roleplay to your targets first, if your goal is assassination. This does not mean that you need to monologue your opponent before killing them: roleplay leading up to a murder can take place over the course of the entire round, for example, leaving the murder scene itself to be wordless." Alberyk thought that this wasn't ganking, for whatever reason, and refused to accept it as such. He said it was justified by something happening far off on the other side of the station, or whatever, I actually didn't know if the Lii'Dra had interacted with anybody yet. Regardless of the interactions that they had with the HoP or whatever happened, I hadn't done anything with them, and being instantly taken out of the round by two ion bolts literally from the dark end of maint didn't feel fair at all. The entire event with Vaurca invaders, while voted on with the vague intent of "spicing up the round," kind of ruined the round as a revolutionary round. It turned into an event, as it was taking away from the thing we planned on doing by taking a war that was supposed to be in the close distance yet still effecting Xenos on station, but instead bringing it directly to the station and making the whole round about them instead of how the station would label xenos for it. Evidence/logs/etc: I haven't got much, but AgentWhatever was the borg as Failsafe. Additional remarks: I'm not expecting a demotion or whatever the hell, I just want Alb to know that just because he wants to put his dick in a round, he ought to deal with the consequences of dicking said round and the antags in it too.

Understandable, but the shotgun is clearly there for non negotiable situations with antags that have given no other chance but to turn them into bits. The common issue is that sec officer uses a shotgun to non surgically remove head from shoulders, and sometimes, that's simply what is needed, but that situation is more rare than the head gibs that do occur. Rather than remove the stations greatest defense vs organics, greatly discourage it. Punish wardens that issue shotgun slugs like candy as opposed to shells that are less instantly lethal, but still effective in removing bad men from a fight. Or, encourage nonlethal methods by issuing stun/flash shells rather than beanbags, which are useless.

[1 Dismissal] Remove pulling people lying down on the floor
ajstorey456 replied to keinto's topic in Archive
Funny, I actually already use those when I'm not a doctor or I'm a Borg to bring crits into medical. Fair enough, I guess, but I feel like noobies are gonna drag anyway, and it's gonna make cryoing people that much more annoying that people will just leave SSD people where they saw them. -
[1 Dismissal] Remove pulling people lying down on the floor
ajstorey456 replied to keinto's topic in Archive
Keinto, don't you play a medical doctor? You already see people drag SSD into medical to just sit in the chairs and take up space, do you want them to then bring them in consistently for stretchers so they could drag them all the way to Cryo? And you bet your sweet ass that they're not gonna return that stretcher. -
Finger guns:A traitor or gag item. Possibly a weapon that can be used in the disguised gun thing. On examining, the person is holding nothing, and when it fires, it says "X Fired bullets from their fingers!" or something like that. Would be fun to have a mime traitor gimmick or something. Bonus points if it's like a derringer in power, so you literally fingerbang their head into gibs.

Tape patches things up: As a very short term solution to somehow puncturing your voidsuit in the vacuum of space, let tape fix the situation for X amount of time or Y amount of tiles moved or Z amount of oxygen. Obviously, you're not gonna go around in a void suit held together by string and duct tape, but a shorter term solution could save a lot of headaches from RNG deciding they want you to have the shaft in space today.

I was thinking that it followed the exact same principles of the Revolutionary gamemode, except instead of vague "fuck NT" or "i love NT" reasons to throw the station into chaos, while also bolstering it with fun magic shit. Could very easily just keep revolution as well as this, but the aim wasn't at all to replace cult either. It's like a mixed gamemode, except the mix is also with cult. Just a slightly different cult.

I get a lot of random ideas all the time for small things, so I thought I'd make a master thread instead of a hundred smaller ones. Here's what I was thinking about earlier today: Net Gun: A gun that shoots nets. Duh. It'd load special ammunition, NETS, fires a projectile that moves relatively slow in a line, and "nets" somebody on contact, which stuns them, floors them, and restrains them. They can resist, and it doesn't take long to resist out of a net, but it can be used as a quick getaway card, a capturing device, or a detaining device. It could be a Syndicate item, traitors can buy them, I think raiders ought to start with one or two of them because they often have the slaver gimmick, and it'd be generally looked down upon for sec to use them because they have more sophisticated ways that aren't illegal to detain people with. Incentivizes dealing with threats nonlethally as an antag, even if at range disadvantage, and more cool rounds with interesting hostage situations. Farmer: An off station job like Merchant, but more weird. They'd be on the same asteroid on a rented plot of land on the surface level. They'd have a little space house, some exotic space crops, a space barn with some exotic space animals like tame carp or all of those weird looking space animals we usually only see because xenobiology grows that one slime core. Their job is to farm, they get a mulebot-like vehicle to haul crates full of crop or animal cages to trade with aurora and aurora crew members. Could be a rare role like merchant, only one and only on some rounds, interesting RP since what happens on station may actually effect the guy living on the same asteroid, definitely has a double barrel laser shotgun because space farmer. Xenobiology animals: This actually comes from another thread here: (https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9434). The idea is to expand Xenobiology into something more useful, in this case taming and breeding space animals. The animals aforementioned in the Farmers suggestion are in the code, but nobody ever sees them unless the Merch buys exotic animals or Xenobiology fucks up with that one slime core. Let Xenobiology have a different lab, maybe even just south of the current slime lab since there's no shortage of space on the sublevel, that has equipment for animal breeding and training. Start off with 2 or 3 randomized exotic animal crates, have a handful of animal pens, get feeding troughs and such for them. They'd have exercise machines for training combat pets, maybe a genetics splicer like they have in Xenobotany to selectively breed traits that you can fuck up horribly and make a shambling horror for getting the best possible stats out of a tree, incubation chambers, all the like. One fear I have from this is that breeding animals will be dangerously close to the accepting of some kind of fucked up ERP mechanic that involves weird space animals. The whole idea fits with what Xeno Biology should be, rather than Slime Rancher in 2D, and also sounds like loads of fun. Heretics: A round type that's elaborated on here: (https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9472). Could replace rev or cult, or just be an interesting new round type. Countercultists could also be a 50% chance of being the Cult in any other normal cult round, allowing for more variety than "come here on this rune or i kill u" Just a whole lotta silly ideas, feel free to add some of your own

I was referring to the previous comment. No, I second this entirely, even though I didn't realize it was actually an issue until you brought it up.

Kylie Howell was reportedly on the South end of the shuttle, messing with the Medical Bay door and due to not having access, making a loud, continuous buzzing noise that was heard across shuttle. I was fixing to go tell them to stop politely, but sternly, when I hear the sound of a flash going off and cuffs being applied. Detective Leo Wyatt took it upon himself to use Flash equipment to detain the Engineer and took her to Odin's holding cells once we docked. Both I and Officer Lukas Chapman asked him why he had done that and suggested that verbal warning was the better choice of action, though he chose not to listen and instead took measures into his own hands. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: There were no Heads of Staff or IAA present at the time of the incident. Actions taken: We as officers decided it best to be dealt with by Internal Affairs, due to the time the incident had taken place. Additional notes:

A general vibe I get is that people don't like Rev all that much. There's a fun round every so often, but typically, people complain about revs being too underpowered just due to the nature of it. Someone had a pretty good idea last night while talking about cult which could be like a rev round in concept, but completely different in flavor and mechanics. Instead of NT, Loyalists, and Revolutionaries, which is difficult and time consuming for revs to coin up a gimmick for why they don't like NT, easy for Loyalists to get power, and generally not a fun time, we have two gods. Nar'sie and X, or X and Y, two powerful dieties that have their own zealous followings. One can be holy, the other unholy, something something yadda yadda, but the idea is that it's two opposing factions that go about recruiting people to their following, fighting for power among departments and control, while also putting the spin of Magic and Gods into it. Essentially, the idea is that there's the Cult as it is, maybe nerfed a little and spruced up, but it doesn't seem necessary to off the top of my head, and a Counter Cult, one that has a Holy God that is completely opposite to the ideas of the cultists. They're both very similar, a Holy and Unholy bible, Holy and Unholy armaments, End Goal is summoning your God and having control, short term goals is recruiting people, and there's some fun spiritual magic along the way! The counter cult, or the holies, will have holy magic, and Light based spells and prayers and incantations, as opposed to the offerings and blood sacrifices of the cult. Their magic would be similar, but they focus more on healing and blessings than raw power, sacrifices and bolsters. That's the real gist of it, and I get it'd be an ASS to code and all that, but I really like the concept off the top of my head. What do y'all think?

[+1 dismissal]Remove Wizard and Ninja from Secret rotation.
ajstorey456 replied to Bath Salts Addict's topic in Archive
Better suggestion, just unmerge secret and mixed. Secret served to be a smaller alternative for the freaks that were on past midnight, and our own intimate little games were played with 12 crew and one wizard, or one ninja, and that was enough to spark some fun and activity for just us. The intention of the merge was fine, but it made gamemodes meant for smaller crew interfere with rounds that have some 50 people in em. -
There are a mess of cool animals from space that are in the game's code already. It'd be cool to implement a research system where you can analyze their stats of some sort, selectively breed them to produce X more, be better fighters, be docile.. Have a different lab or off room where you start with a randomized animal crate with something in it, some pens, tools for taming them like muzzles treats leashes and a cattle prod or something, machines that test different stats like a treadmill for speed, a target dummy loaded with meat for attack effectively, and it wouldnt be NanoTrasen if they didn't have an inhumane range for the animals that have tough armor plates to be weapons tested on. I'm just spitballing on my phone here, but I could definitely see this happen. Maybe even give slimes stats that the cores can be fed to the animals to change something in them genetically, like pink slimes make them more docile to be obvious, metal slimes make armor based animals tougher, I think its purple slime that makes things produce more... Yeah, this sounds TOTALLY plausible.

[Accepted] Sebbe - Dionaea application.
ajstorey456 replied to Sebbe's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
There's a strange jump in the backstory between the ventilation shaft and being on a NanoTrasen ship that I don't understand, and your grammar is a bit wonky, but otherwise you seem comprehensible enough to handle the role of a diona crewmember. I like the idea of your progression as a nymph and your origin, even if it's more likely for a NanoTrasen crew member to also shove you in a disposal shoot half the time A little bit of work can be done, but other than the little odd mistakes, +1 from me. -
I agree as a whole, except SodaPopBob's response. A random claim that someone who cryo'd 30 minutes ago actually admitted to framing them isn't good enough "evidence" as stacked to what you were up against. BUT, I understand the post as a general thing. There's two endgames as an antag it feels like: Kill everyone or be in the brig. Otherwise you died, and you might as well be dead if you're in the brig. As an officer myself, albeit new, I attempt to always be able to question a prisoner, and I wish everyone else would too. I see other officers stun, cuff, brig, sentence literally without a word, and that interrogation room I've only ever seen used by myself or Noir on a special occasion. It's literally a common OOC quip that the goal of security is to create extended, whether it be by brig or execution, which is the shittiest outlook you can have as an officer. Something that helps contribute to Sec being the NanoTrasen military force is how often roles that shouldn't get involved do. Security Officers are to handle situations, supply warrants, detain a suspect, and process them, and the HoS on certain occasions finds themselves intervening as well. Cadets are NOT Officers, they are essentially Security Assistants. Forensic Technicians are NOT Officers, they are specialized units meant to investigate a scene for clues as to what happened. Officers are the people to detain and arrest, not this other jargon. This isn't even including the intervention of a Captain at times, which is a whole other issue. The Captain should NEVER be a Security Raid Boss, but it seems like that's how it goes a majority of the time the Captain is present. They are meant to keep the station's command in order, and being a Super Soldier Officer should not be a part of their job. And holy shit, for the sake of roleplay, stop being soldiers. You guys are SECURITY on a RESEARCH STATION. If there were no antags, and that's the idea of Aurora, that every shift up until the one you're playing has been extended with no antags, your role of a security officer is essentially Mall Cop. You aren't an interesting character by being gruff, to the point, bad guy hating, and super robust. You aren't being an interesting character by having no emotions regarding any other crew member or suspect/prisoner. You aren't being an interesting character by blindly following every single thing someone tells you to do, even if you think it's wrong. For fucks sake, above all, security acts boringly! Isn't that the worst offense on a HRP server?

BYOND Key: ajstorey456 Game ID: bRf-aZl8 Player Byond Key: DasFox Staff involved: SirCatnip, but after the round. I didn’t have the time or bearings to ahelp. Reason for complaint: It was a round of Veil Party, and I, as a head vampire, had gained tremendous power by convincing Command I was the Captain, accumulating probably 800 some blood, and thralling 4 people as well as embracing the Head of Security and changing the AI’s laws to follow the order of the Veil. Toward the end of the round, It was me and DasFox's character, a shaft miner, in an elevator. There was another guy, but he was fucked beyond reason since like 20 minutes in. I think DasFox’s character was trying to get them to the shuttle. I told DasFox's character as the captain to lie down on the ground and put your hands behind your back. They complied, I began succing, and I was only gonna do enough to enthrall them, but they resisted enough to get up halfway through and went wild attacking me with something (I didn’t know what) until I went horizontal and dropped my telebaton. Thankfully, I got back up pretty quick, so I took out my shotgun and put two slugs into their leg and began to run, shouting to the bartender that that guy is a maniac and to follow me. I then enthralled the bartender and went back to finish the job, and they were unconscious. DasFox IMMEDIATELY started shittalking in LOOC about how shitty I was to kill them like that and how I'm a real piece of shit and all, yadda yadda. Beyond the powergaming that is breaking loose of a succ and attacking the vampire, it really frustrates me that people insist on shittalking in LOOC whenever they lose, and this is no exception. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, it was the end of the round and by the time the shittalking had reached an end, it was over. I reached out to Catnip over discord to help me out, if this is an offense, and if I should report it. So here I am. Approximate Date/Time: 11/2/2017, about 4:50. I don’t have the exact time of the offense, sorry.

[Accepted] Calion's Skrell App
ajstorey456 replied to calion12's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Can't say I know Calion or his characters too well, but I've slaughtered Sokolov in a merchant ship once and he was my battle brother revolutionary friend in science as Fideal another time. I think he's pretty cool. +1. -
[Accepted] Conspiir's Skrell Application
ajstorey456 replied to Conspiir's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
-1, the acquisition of a Skrell Character will allow them one step closer to total race domination. It is a slippery slope, and all they will need from there is the Unathi race to become Supreme Ruler of All Races. For real though, if anyone is deserving of this whitelist, it's Conspiir. Their characters are all interesting, unique, fun to interact with, true to their concept, I could go on. OOC, Conspiir is always nice, helpful, and generally a great addition to this community. They've put a lot of time into this game, a lot of love into their characters, and a lot of work to be something more than Left Clicking Spessman. +1 and beyond, good luck Conspiir! -
[Denied] ben10083's Head of Staff Application
ajstorey456 replied to ben10083's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've played alongside Ben a few times. He somehow manages to be a superior to me in a majority of rounds I see him, my characters typically being cyborgs under BOB 2.0 or a Shaft Miner under Bob Jones. I'd like to preface this response with the fact that I have nothing against Ben or how he is at all, but this is my honest opinion. I think you need more time to learn how to roleplay. Whenever I'm Cherish, the Cyborg, your BOB 2.0 personality makes me wince a little, and brace for the round that is to come. As an AI, you tend to come off as monotonic, command barking, and a little less than knowledgeable or receptive to interaction. Whenever I'm Jericho Brigand, the Shaft Miner, your Bob Jones personality makes me wince a little, and brace for disobeying your orders because Jericho is a dick. As a Quartermaster, you tend to come off as monotonic, command barking, and a little less than knowledgeable or receptive to interaction. I haven't played under Ben Smith, but you get the idea. I think the fact that three of your main character's names are B.O.B., B.O.B. 2.0, and Bob Jones speaks for itself. While not necessarily a bad thing if handled right, you ought to be more creative in expanding your creative horizon. I believe I've played antagonist with you a few times, one for certain as a Head Loyalist. It was while I was still getting my chops at playing SS13, but back then, you seemed better than you are now. You had dynamic and interesting responses to events and what my character said. I can't say I see that anymore. I see Bob, the guy who barks orders and doesn't care. That's not interesting, and it applies to two of your characters that I know. The other times I don't really recall, but it feels like I get them a lot with you, even if I can never remember them. Overall, I think you're a good player in potential. You play a lot, you obviously like the game and enjoy spending your time with it, I'd just like you to work out your RP muscles some more. Beyond general statements about you as a whole, your application seems like a perfect example of what you could be with some more practice and experience. Your backstory was nice, compared to things I've seen, and the only thing I don't like about it is Bob's seemingly unprovoked want to be a HoP. His other jobs had reasons for being there and then not being there, which is cool, and I like it. For you to have that backstory of coming and going only to have Bob jump up to HoP simply for a pay raise or some other non mentioned reason just doesn't seem right. Wouldn't he love and respect his job as a QM, following in the footsteps of the man who taught him how to live in a better way? Wouldn't he feel rooted in his fitted job in cargo, making things run smoothly for everyone else, and possibly get the urge to take up a prodigy himself? And OOC, if I'm being totally honest, the last thing I want is another bossy, command barking Head of Staff that doesn't allow for much interaction. I say make a new character. Play something that isn't a powerful role, like Borg, AI, QM, or Warden. Play a doctor who cares about each and every one of his patients' well being, a Janitor that comes from somewhere rough and either takes that out on those who see themselves better than him, or lighten their day by making friends and sharing gritty jokes, like a good old fashioned janitor would, a Bartender, a Cadet, an engineer... Anything, really. It would also help to have the knowledge of how the Departments work first hand before trying to become the guy that manages them all, OOCly. But until you've tested your chops elsewhere, really grinded down your ability to roleplay and adapt to a new personality, I'm gonna have to have a negative response to this app. TL;DR, -1, but you have potential to be a +1 in the future. You're a cool guy, Ben. Don't rush it. -
[+1 dismissal]The Surgery Cult Factory, starring other antags
ajstorey456 replied to ajstorey456's topic in Archive
I've never been caught by means of Cameras. Ever. Not in a hundred years. (EDIT: And I've never seen a surgeon get caught, and I have surgeon main friends who agree that it's near impossible to get caught.) And if the guy who was converted is like, "well, har dee dar! it's alright, it's just a new form of medicine!" then what is the AI to do? Nobody's pressing charges, nobody's technically hurt, and there's no real law against practicing blood magic to heal somebody, no matter how close the AI looks. The best thing that can be done is "say ",b Borgs, kill that evil mans." and im not sure if that's a thing that's allowed. -
Other solution: Anyone playing instrument is Valid instantly. +1

A good chemist doesn't need more that 1k units, but for all them bad chemists out there, you probably need more acetone.
