You're trying to defend the implementation of a completely maligned system by saying that the alternative is too efficient. All similar systems on the map, where you can inject gasses into (furnace if we still have it, sciences two gas chambers, the brig) a controlled space, have effective scrubber setups. I am not seeing the point in making an exception to this convention. Unless you want me to make an ugly back maintenance near the cells to vent gas, I'm not going to implement any sort of system described. There is no space for such a system. The system is meant to setup one cell as a dedicated gas chamber or emergency purge. You're not suppose to gas different cells constantly as honestly that would be a little too OP and make it so that slime handling is a thing of the past. There will also be a future update where slimes function differently in different environments. This used to be part of another PR that made it so ice slimes required cold to survive, and fire slimes required heat.

I'm not going to make my own custom gas scrubber setup. That's asking too much and I think it's too efficient for xenobiologists to have. Xenobiology does not need a crematorium. I genuinely believe that they need an excuse to actually leave xenobiology and use the trash compactor. Perhaps I can introduce disposals access (not maintenance access) to xenobiologists and all scientists. Each cell having its own APC was removed in a previous update. Cardox grenades are used for emergency slime outbreaks.

I'll take a look at the economic balance of kinetic accelerators. Mid-range kinetic accelerators should completely drain a bank account, while the lesser ones should be the price of 9mm pistols or something.

[Resolved] Player Complaint Scheveningen: Part 2

Done. Both on the forums and discord. Hopefully this will stop the callouts. -
I've actually put airtight plastic flaps in each cell.

[Resolved] Player Complaint Scheveningen: Part 2
BurgerBB replied to BurgerBB's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I have a different view of talking behind people's back than most. I'm aware of a few staff members who talk behind my back on a once-a-month basis. I don't make staff complaints on those people because it was meant to be private and for me not to see. While I do view these staff member differently because of such LIES AND SLANDER, I do not hold it against them administration wise. I'm not complaining about them complaining behind my back, I'm complaining about the hypocrisy that occurs where they complain about complaints made in a semi-private environment and then complain in a semi-private environment. -
I've learned that hardsuits =/= voidsuits. Voidsuits will be getting comfort debuffs since they are one size fits all, rigsuits are designed to be form fitting and will receive a very minor comfort malus.

BYOND Key: BurgerBB Game ID: None. Player Byond Key: Scheveningen Staff involved: Various; Aboshehab, Doc, Garnacus, Juani Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Aboshehab was on break and recommended that I speak to Doc, Doc posted about it in the mod chat about Shev's behavior and there was no response for a while, so Abo recommended I speak to Garn. Garn hasn't responded to a DM that I sent 5 days ago. Upon bothering Doc again, The general consensus was that I should make a player complaint. Generally the feeling I got was that no one wants to deal with this issue privately. Approximate Date/Time: Various Reason for complaint: There will be two threads I will be referencing: My developer application: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=11223 The original complaint thread: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=11222 As a potential staff member, I wanted to avoid starting unintentional drama over this issue so is Shev would start anything, I would just ignore it and hope that it would go away as people have been telling me. Now, the beauty of it is that ignoring problems does not actually make the problem go away in this scenario, so here I am, making a second player complaint. Now that I gave up on dev, I tried speaking to staff members privately about Shev's behavior as I didn't want to start another shitfest, but unfortunately it seems that no one is willing to deal with that issue, which is the impression I am getting, however I hope that just be me being negative. I wanted to solve this issue privately without a public spectacle but unfortunately I cannot do that so I guess I'll just have to deal with it and just post everything I was going to say anyways. It would be nice if all these screenshots were addressed by a mod, but there is going to be a lot of them. So over the year I've been here, I've learned quite a bit about Shev, entirely unintentionally. Shev started to take an issue with me when I was belittling players, acting as some sort of self-proclaimed guardian for them. That was the excuse he used when justifying throwing more fuel into the fire in the first complaint thread: ( https://i.imgur.com/Ajd9Ubu.png ) I don't think that this was ever addressed, but it's kind of fucked up for a player to do this in a situation when they're not a mod, but then again even if they were a mod this would be some pretty abhorrent behavior. It got quite worse over time for various reasons. One of which is me posting about them in a place used for venting, and then those logs getting leaked to them by a friend. I don't even need to post the screenshot given how everyone probably knows it like the back of the hand. It's the one where I compared him to a child with downs syndrome disrupting everything and the best thing you can do is ignore it and let it pass. It likes to be posted a lot despite being addressed multiple times and me apologizing multiple times for it, genuinely. It's posted every time I try to correct things and make things right, usually paired with "This is why I can't be civil with you." despite the incident happening months ago and apologies being made and addressed via discord PMs. Proof of this can be seen the developer thread and the original complaint thread. I think that this is important to bring up because they ended up joining the place itself. and using it as their own personal dumping grounds to post exclusively about why i'm satan incarnate. ( https://i.imgur.com/Mv2wnaH.png ), thankfully everyone knew what he was trying to pull so one one took it seriously. I would get more examples, but they ended up leaving the chat itself unexpectedly as soon as I resigned as trial developer, which I thinks speaks volume about his intentions there. I cannot directly search for more examples of him posting there because of how discord handles searches. It's a huge shame because he said quite a lot of things about how developers are not better than players in terms of contribution and general developer dislike which may shed light on how he views things. Recently, I fucked up and used humor that people did not find acceptable, and I resigned as developer because at the current Aurorastation climate, I could not handle being developer. Part of the reason why I resigned because I thought that Shev would actually cool down, maybe perhaps give him a burst of happiness, but for some reason it made things worse and he started to berate me on discord publicly, as seen below. I'm embedding this one because I think everyone needs to see it because I think it perfectly embodies Shev as a person. They see someone who accidentally offended someone. They then publicly berate them, usually saying quite rude or demeaning things. They then somehow try not to make it entirely serious by throwing in a joke in there. They then go serious again and continue the beration. While this is unique in it's anger and general hatred, they like executing this concept. They like pinging people publicly on discord for issues that happened either a while ago or off discord, they did this before, as seen in this post: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?p=97709#p97709 I ended up speaking to staff members about this because this was unacceptable. He was given a measly little discord warning by Juani that probably expired by now, and I do not think his behavior will ever stop because of it. This is proven by the fact that someone who knew more about Shev came up to me and told him about the fact that Shev used to be a moderator for this server, and that he ended up losing moderator twice due to "behavioral issues". I genuinely and unironically believe that this is starting to border on harassment. For one user to spend so much time complaining, flaming, and baiting someone, it's unhealthy to everyone involved.

This is a lot to unpack. You can remove the gas from a cell using an air scrubber. The extra surgery room is because there is a potential that there are two xenobiologists. There doesn't have to be two xenobiologists, it will just support two xenobiologists. Using the slime baton is incredibly optional. You can use it if you want, or you can not use it if you do not want to use it.
-
Yes there is. The air scrubber that is provided.
-
The planned system is that you will only get a comfort notification if there has been a drastic change in comfort, or if you use a verb that checks your comfort.

Add Rafters to most hallways and lobbies, more ladders in maintenance.
BurgerBB replied to Bygonehero's topic in Archive
I kind of actually want to do this but I'm worried about performance. My bar overhaul update introduces rafters in the bar, and if people like that new area then perhaps I can make rafters in the hallways. -
Random rare items would be great. I don't think there is ever a time where cargo is in need of money given how much mining provides in platinum/phoron and how everyone pays for their orders.

A map overhaul of xenobiology. Information here: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/5032

speedmerge it if the server doesn't start then there will be no one to complain about new features
-
I'm inclined to disagree with all the feedback in this thread regarding that this is bad for roleplay. I think that this is excellent for roleplay and adds depth to the server. Just because it adds a stat to track doesn't mean that the game will turn into a different game. It gives me depression that a lot of people have this mindset where introducing role playing game elements in a roleplaying game is turning it into a not roleplaying game.
-
After I get approval for the general concept, I'll work on balancing the amount of holes, resources, and rock health there is.
-
Since it's a huge balance related thing there will likely be a community poll done on how this affects mercs/security. I'm quite indifferent to other, because on one hand it encourages the mercs to have on-station interaction, on the other it may make it easier for security to take them down.
-
Makes it so the station is on a circular asteroid. Before, it was square shaped and looked odd. Benefits: Looks nicer Drawbacks: Takes 255% longer for the map to load on round start. Less Materials Less Asteroid No actual performance benefit

Overview: There are a lot of things present in the game that are only balanced by willingful limitation. An example of this is hardsuit use: You can wear a hardsuit all shift and no really give a fuck about it despite it being a hot, sweaty, and bulk piece of armor. Junkfood also comes to mind where players eat garbage and don't care about the stale, over-saturated flavor. Players also sometimes wear internals 24/7, and something like that is quite uncomfortable. Players don't report this sort of behavior as they don't know how long someone has been in a hardsuit or eating junkfood, so I suggest a comfort system that every humantype mob has. You gain comfort levels when doing comforting things, such as sitting on a chair, eating good food, and you lose comfort levels when doing uncomfortable things such as being in a hardsuit for a long period of time, using internals for a long period of time,, eating junkfood, overeating, or being injured. A comfortable person will have a higher pain tolerance. An uncomfortable person will have a lower pain tolerance. If you wear a hardsuit for 1 hour and eat nothing but junkfood and breath through a mask, the goal is that it will take 25% less pain damage to put you into paincrit. Implementation: Every player will start out with a comfort level of 100. 100 means normal comfort. Anything less than 0 means that the person is uncomfortable to the point where it starts to affect their pain tolerance, anything above 0 means that there is no pain effect. Comfort can be at most 200, and at least -100. Everything that adds or removes comfort will be based on this. Each negative comfort level means 0.25% less pain tolerance. A comfort level of -100 means your pain tolerance will be 25% less than normal. This whole system will come in updates so it's easier for players to adapt. At first, only food will adjust comfort levels at first, then other things will be implemented. Perhaps each species will earn less or more comfort levels when doing things. For example, Njarir’Akhran Tajara are more sensitive to comfort level changes, while Vaurca are less sensitive to comfort changes. Balance Additional things may need to be balanced. Engineers, Security, and Miners will likely inherently have less of a comfort malus from wearing hardsuits. Mercs will also likely have less of a comfort malus as they are mercenaries who care little for comfort. Depth I believe that this feature will add more depth to the game. Security can willingly feed prisoners bad food and provide them with terrible cells with a lack of seating so it's easier, however crueler, to control escapees. The crew can demand more recreational areas/time if they feel they have low comfort levels due to being overworked. Perhaps heads of staff will also have a sensitivity to comfort changes.
-
I absolutely love this addon, however I think that all the items available should be able to be craftable by crew. Here are some objects that I think should be removed for that reason: Cheesie Honkers, Toolboxes, Briefcase, Sunglasses, Revolver, Potted Plants, Earmuffs, Handcuffs, Chainsaw, pretty much everything in the security category, And perhaps for the sake of E N D L E S S B O U N T I E S I think that the bounty requirement for 3 extra bounties should be completing 3 extra bounties instead of 5.

[Withdrawn] Burger's Developer Application
BurgerBB replied to BurgerBB's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Just going to leave this here: https://imgur.com/a/p1YCv5M Now I'm not trying to pull an "et tu, brute" but almost all of these people who are typing up a paragraph of a storm about the use of the N word have used several racial slurs before in the past. I'm genuinely starting to believe that people are kicking up a storm for the purpose of kicking up a storm. This is further proven by the fact that people keep posting the same god damn out-of-context already-dealt-with-and-addressed-by-me-and-staff-members screenshot like it's exodia. It's the "BUT WHAT ABOUT HILLARY'S MISSING EMAILS" of my developer application. It was dealt with twice in DMs privately as discussed earlier here. This situation could've been dealt with easily but for some reason people are calling for skull, garn, and abo to investigate. Not even an "OR" investigate, an "AND" investigate like this requires 3 people to deal with. Perhaps it does given all the context behind the people complaining. It's such a shame that admins have to actually deal with this shit over a developer application. Not even an mod application where your mannerisms mean everything, but a developer application where my only community interaction is saying "-1 we don't need this on the server" or "I think we need my addon on the server". People actually have to waste time dealing with this, actually mature people; when an actual adult has to step in and take time out of their summer break gives me immense depression, and that's where I draw the line. So I guess this is an official "I'm rescinding my dev application" post. It doesn't seem like a position for me and it's making me waste too much time typing up paragraphs like these when I could be doing actual work. The beauty of it is that I will still be making the same amount of PRs despite the outcome. The only difference between contributor and dev that I see is varedit (which would help greatly when identifying bugs), access to additional github access, dev meetings, and potential for collaboration for bigger projects. I really only applied for collaboration and making the github approval process faster, but I realise that I could do all these things as contributor anyways. So really, all I care about is contributing to the server. I think I lost when community when the Nanako comparisons started. I mean realistically I think any sane person would've moved onto another server after the childish community outrage. I still get random junkfood meme bullshit in OOC when I play by people who have contributed nothing to the server. -
I've see only one person be able to pull off muteness and her name is Cassidy Hendricks. Hendricks plays exclusively civilian jobs, and honestly people with communicative disabilities like that should not be able to realistically get hired in Security, Medical, and mining professions. It should be that way oocly because with those two jobs, people's lives hang in the balance as opposed to a cook or a gardener. If your job is dealing with people or a job that relies heavily on verbal communication, you should not be hired as a deaf or mute person. This is sane from an IC standpoint as this is a state of the art daycare center research station, and sane from an OCC standpoint as chaos happens every round.

[Withdrawn] Burger's Developer Application

As I said before, I refrain from using it, I'm perfectly find if racial slurs were banned completely with no exceptions, but it irks me that people are only getting offended now that I'm using it. -

"Even with context" I can see where this is already going. I'm going to be entirely honest right now I'm seeing a big hoopla about nothing. While I do believe a staff member shouldn't be using those words in it's current context, it's absoultely ridiculous to say that it's a make or break thing for whether or not someone should be on discord. If you search up any derogatory, racial terms on discord you'll get 378 results of the n word with a hard r, and 1,302 results of the n word with a soft r. To me, it seemed acceptable to use these words if you're quoting something. I've never called anyone the n word, and all my uses in it where used as references or quotes. My most recent quote was actually posted once before by a mod and once before by a CIAA staff member so I assumed it was okay to make that joke again, but apparently not. I'm ceasing all use of slurs as I am now made aware that in this discord, it offends people. And for that I'm sorry. If I saw something that actually offends you, drop me a PM, state clearly that you didn't like what I said, and I will go from there and adjust my behavior. It seems like a lot of people like going to this thread first before communicating with me, which does not help the situation.
