  1. This is the reason you were banned. I honestly would like to hear what you'd say to what DatBerry posted because he makes a point which I'm very curious to hear, and that is what sort of mental gymnastics did you use in order to make the decision that upon the officer hitting delete, you would immediately draw your revolver and aim it. I feel as though I know what you're going to say here, and it's that you play a "loose cannon cop who doesn't play by the rules," but that doesn't fly here. Police officers don't just gun down their coworkers when there are disagreements between them, and it's not like the evidence actually disappeared off of the face of the Earth. It was a bad call, and I feel as though you never quite got the grasp of the fact that the detective firing lethals at any chance they get is a stupid move both ICly and OOCly. But you've been spoke to regarding this in the past. Now, people may be wondering how far back in the past, but it was honestly, only three days ago. Two days, really, since it's only 48 minutes after midnight as I'm writing this. You were spoken to regarding using lethals and the thought process that should go into when to use it and when not to. You use lethals for literally everything. I've watched you, as a detective, use a revolver to stop a fistfight between two chefs. In this situation, you could have A.) Tried speaking to the rest of security and informing them of what happened. B.) Gotten into contact with the HoS about the evidence. C.) Spoken to the IA Agent who was on board at the time. D.) Filed an IR regarding the incident. E.) Filed a player complaint. F.) Ahelped G.) Just tried talking to the guy and asking him why he did it and sorting it out that way. H.) Reporting it to another officer. Any of the above options could have been done if you'd just stopped to think about your actions rather than just firing at the hip. Moving on, I'm honestly not going to lift this ban not only for the aforementioned reasons, but also because of your reaction to it. Rather than quietly making this appeal, you decided to not only rage and curse at me in discord VOIP, but to also vent your salt in LOOC and in adminhelps and in the public discord, breaking the IC in OOC (that's where I got this wicked sick addition to my forum signature) to the extent that Muncorn had to tell you to cut it out and that further salt would result in punishment. I am glad that Muncorn took the initiative to do so because I would have applied a regular day ban or three day ban instead. You have edited your OP thirteen times which goes to show the patchwork job this appeal has done of trying to give any sort of reason why you should be unbanned, and I honestly cannot find a reason to. Not to mention your insistent claims that you were being metagrudged and that it was all the player of Jawdat's fault. I don't exactly understand how you can try to pass the blame when it was you who decided to escalate things to an above and beyond level. My final verdict stays, the ban is holding until you reapply at a date no earlier than two weeks from now. I would recommend you take a month, though, to explore different jobs and roles and find a niche that you feel comfortable doing with your characters where they think like a person rather than just a tool that allows you to point and click and try not to be... Locking and archiving.
  2. I actually don't think that this has been applied for in the past, which is surprising considering how much it's joked about. I think it's a good idea, honestly, and I'm surprised that in 2459, vaporizers just don't... exist? Or at least aren't on the station. And you have a decent reason for the character having the vape. As for what it would contribute, I can't wait to see the arguments that go over because of this vape, and your first target must be Medbay. I guess what I'm really trying to say is:
  3. I honestly don't think this is a great decision, especially not right now. Our high population at the moment coupled with the fact that people still can vote for secret if they would like to, and they still do, allows for more people to roll antag and sure, more chaos may ensue, but I haven't heard many complaints about that.
  4. I kind of have to call you on this, but I'd like another admin to confirm, but IIRC you threw the grenades before you were harmed. Not to mention that this all happened AFTER you tried fighting like six coworkers.
  5. BYOND Key: IncognitoJesus Game ID: bPD-aqXe Player Byond Key: Mystery_Of_Darkness Staff involved: YouJustGotOwened, myself. Reason for complaint: Shit security play, whining in LOOC and in ahelps. After a harmless prank in the bar that consisted of well, people laying down and a miscommunication , the player came in as Wood Burns, fired his gun at a wall before aiming his gun at the surgeon near the top of that screenshot. He then began firing blindly into the crowd before he was disarmed and stripped. He was then removed from the bar. Mind you, Manfred Hayden (the CE at the time) told him to relax and stand down and that this isn't how arrests are done. While nearly naked, he assaulted the person who stripped him and then anyone who tried disarming him or flashing him, repeatedly getting up and attempting to fight them again whenever they were knocked down and subsequently robusted. They then decided to start punching everyone at the scene before being dragged off. At one point, he ahelped and said that people were stripping him and made remarks in LOOC about said thing. Eventually, he was dragged off and I'm not sure what went on after the fact, but I did see in LOOC that he tried calling the incident an act of grief. He ahelped regarding his gear being taken, and so I reminded him that the situation was already ahelped by him and that it was an IC issue. He then attempted to say that it was not proper escalation of force, and that he would be taking it to CCIA in the form of an IR. I don't believe that this should be handled in an IR because he has at least one recorded incident of raging when confronted ICly. My recommended action here would be at least a jobban from security since that was like, primo shitcurity. I also feel as though it's necessary to note that this is someone who's applying for a Unathi whitelist at the moment. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, it was deemed an IC issue by YJGO before the whole fight, and I'm making this complaint since I feel as though the fight was a supreme display of shitty play. Approximate Date/Time: ~11 PM EST 25 JUL 2017
  6. Alright, I'll lift the ban. Appeal accepted, yadda yadda. Locking and archiving.
  7. The reason for the ban: Do you have any recollection of these events?
  8. I uh. Do terrible things. Like uh. Overwatch. Yeah. Overwatch.
  9. BYOND Key: incognitojesus Character Names: Senri Ishikawa, Damian del Prado, Javier Ortiz, Hiroto Sato, Joey Luna, Nate Parker, and a few I haven't played yet. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I would like to play this specific race because I have spent a long while observing other IPCs and the thing that separates them from other species in a way that appeals to me is the great variation. Unlike species like Unathi, Tajara, etc., there is more opportunity to branch out and a larger diversity. This is a great plus, and I feel as though it would definitely allow for me to explore a new facet to roleplay. Synthetics in general have a focused history in our lore with an emphasis on past events, and I would like to be able to engage in that aspect from the inside. Lastly, I'm interested in seeing how a post-Sol Invasion IPC would play a few months removed from the end of the last antag contest. While that storyline has been tied up, I'm sure Cake has something planned for the future. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As I mentioned previously, IPCs have a great deal of variation in the way that they are played, similar to humans, however, they don't enjoy the social position that humans do on a galactic stage. In many ways, this is a great area to create characters in because you have IPCs that are very pro-synth, IPCs that don't want or care for synthetic rights in general, IPCs that are ambivalent, and then IPCs that are simply programmed to do one function. Something I enjoyed about the old Vaurca lore is that there was a great emphasis placed on the unbound vs bound mentality, and you see a similar thing in IPCs. Obviously there are mechanical differences for playing an IPC versus a human, but they're well balanced and grounded in the idea that at the end of the day, the IPC is a synthetic being, and that's really it. Character Name: ISU-6672 Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Hephaestus Industries Internal Security Unit number 6672 was activated on 13 March 2440 aboard the HRS Sidirourgeío where it would proceed to fulfill its duties as a security unit, patrolling the halls and maintaining order aboard the research station for ten years before a tragic accident involving a fall into a crusher during a fire at the facility. As a result of this accident, the IPC had its espionage-sensitive components removed and the positronic brain rendered inert. Due to the obsolete nature of the IPC's model, HIISU was stripped for parts and the remaining parts were sold to a scrapyard on Biesel. Three years would pass as the defunct and obsolete IPC laid in a scrapyard in Phoenixport before being sold to a mechatronic engineering student at the Hongsun Engineering Institute, Pyotr Anton. Pyotr would work alongside his classmates and close friends for the next year to reconstruct the chassis and posibrain. On 2 October 2454, HIISU-6672, or "Iso" as it was lovingly referred to by its makers, was re-activated, and promptly attempted to begin cleaning the room it was within, sacrificing Anton's sweatshirt to wipe up a stain. Dropping the HI- part of its designation, the IPC was then officially designated ISU-6672. Over the next six months, the club worked together to attempt to repurpose ISU for mining operations, and were able to accomplish this, however, ISU's vocalizer was never completed, Anton instead focusing on trying to solve the issue of the capacitor being drained too quickly by the industrial chassis. He would never find the solution before finals overtook his life for the next few months. Anton doted on ISU during this time, viewing it as a great creation, however, his financial situation would require Anton to begrudgingly sell ISU to Nanotrasen in order to pay his way to completing his doctorate. ISU knew how to do only two things: how to mine, and how to wield a mean bottle of space cleaner. At first, ISU swabbed the decks of the NCV Armstrong for three long, laborious years. During this time, it perfected the art of waxing on and waxing off, before being reassigned to plasma mining due to the robust chassis it possessed. Over the next year and some change, it would find itself aboard the newly commissioned NSS Aurora due to the perilous nature and the already-climbing number of human shaft miners who suffered egregious injuries from falls down the shafts. What do you like about this character? I had fun writing the backstory up, and honestly, I enjoy the incomplete vocalizer and the almost thrown together feel that ISU brings. In fact, I'd say that's the strong point of ISU, it exists only to serve its purpose because its owner sold it off. It doesn't view Nanotrasen as its owner because it has no real concept of ownership in the sense that it doesn't really care. I like the backstory I've constructed for ISU. It reminds me of those battlebots people make today where it's because they enjoy doing it. Also, ISU is old and really obsolete with how fast the technology has progressed since the AI boom of humanity. How would you rate your role-playing ability? This question is always difficult, and I can never come up with an answer. I'd say I'm relatively decent, but there are definitely people who are better at it. I've been here for quite a while, and have seen some great roleplayers come through here so if I judge myself against them, I'd lose every single time. I like to think I'm an average roleplayer. I like to have a bit of fun which may break my own immersion at times, but it's usually harmless. I'm definitely willing to hear out anyone who has any concerns about that ability to roleplay. Notes: I may not keep the name of ISU-6672 simply because it seems like a mouthful and I'm sure I could come up with a cooler designation, perhaps with a few less letters. I would like to make it only two letters, honestly. I wrote this application on like two cups of coffee so excuse any irregularities or bring attention to them, whichever really.
  10. You really don't. You could just ask any admin to change the name for you. I don't think you're just, "trying to get away with something here," I'm applying the rules because it was reported by another player and is believably a reference. To be honest, you've alluded to being aware of the origins of the name within this very complaint, which is from a video game. It's not a rigid interpretation of the rule, it's literally just... the rule?
  11. These are the rules, and you can argue the semantics as much as you'd like, but at the end of the day, it is still a reference name. You say that you didn't mean for it to be a reference, but at the end of the day: Your character has the name Roy Earle, the character it references' name is Roy Earle. Your character is a detective, and the character it references is a detective. You are attempting to lawyer the rules by pointing out other examples wherein there are characters on station who have the same name as historical figures, but you fail to mention the brevity of those wikipedia articles, and even a simple Google search can show you the difference between those examples: It's interesting that you try to downplay the significance of this reference by saying that, "Well, if I can dig up an article on Wikipedia about these other characters, why aren't they considered reference names???" While I agree that at the end of the day, staff judgement is what should determine whether or not something is a reference, here's the thing. L.A. Noire, the game that Roy Earle is from, was pretty significant, and the character you reference is one of the main antagonists of a game that sold literally over five million copies and was the fastest selling new IP in the UK. I'd say that a hell of a lot more people know who Roy Earle, the sleezy detective from LA Noire, is than Raymond Hawkins, the Chief of Naval Supplies and Transport for the UK. Hawkins' player himself has even stated he has no idea who the hell the real-life Raymond Hawkins is. If you really wanted to go further into the reference, you could say it shares the same name as Roy Earle from that one Humphrey Bogart movie, but see this is where you draw the line. Your character has no similarities to the Bogart character at all, and so wouldn't have been considered a reference. But the amount of cards that make up the deck here are too many. It isn't just a game that's popular among people who play SS13, but was a major-selling title that a lot of people played. The rules are plain, and they say to avoid reference names, and famous names. Roy Earle is both a famous name and a reference name. The amount of time it flew under the radar is irrelevant, and I highly doubt you'll have to, "make a new character," only change the names as many before you have when PMed regarding this issue, and many will after the fact. I'll hold for the headmins to make a decision here, but I am not changing my mind.
  12. Since it's been over a year, I'm willing to lift the ban. The ban was put more so in place because you logged immediately after the fact, but as long as we can agree not to have anymore incidents like this, I don't have any problems lifting this.
  13. National Center for Sodium Intake Due to the recent influx of player and staff complaints, we here at the National Center for Sodium Intake have decided to upgrade the sodium level to: Thank you for your time.
  14. Every member of security must have a background that includes military service and decorations of the highest order and must have been involved in a historic battle where they personally killed dozens of enemies but now have PTSD. They must then use said PTSD as an excuse to wear their helmet everywhere and go buck wild every five minutes, shooting any bystanders.
  15. I really don't care about the promotion, I just want to help teach people in departments. That's all I really do. If it isn't about the character, stop applying with the character that so many people have n number of issues with.
  16. I would like to point out that this isn't about just Edgar, but about both my characters that are capable, I have realized people really are tired of Edgar, and I understand that. But I've tried new characters and stuff. Dont Just grade Edgar, grade everyone I play. But I do appreciate your feedback, i have worked on being a better leader IC and oocly. I'm not sure I understand here. People have recommended that you apply with somebody other than Edgar because they have issues with that character. You know, you do have the option of applying with a wholly different character and I'd recommend doing that because people obviously have outstanding issues with the one that you've used to apply with the past four or five times. Furthermore, the whole point of applying with a character that has a certain backstory is that people will scrutinize and grade that character and the success of your application typically revolves around OOC attitude, IC aptness, and the character you apply with. There's a reason we ask these questions in the application.
  17. Moved to an appropriate subforum.
  18. I can't really...what is the suggestion here, again?
  19. Hi, I was here for the round and was Damian Del Prado, turret killer and pirate sniper. The AI was definitely going too far in this instance. Honestly, if I wasn't able to use the check AI laws, it definitely would have appeared as though the AI was subverted from the actions it took throughout the round. For example, throughout the entire round the AI seemed to 'prioritize' the wellbeing of the crew above everything else, offering to barter with the heisters despite being told to stop by several crew members. It is irritating that (I'm assuming) the player of this AI has this misconception that the AI can do as it wishes. He did receive an AI ban for disregarding their laws as AI, which is remarkably similar to the situation at hand. He successfully filed an unban appeal for that ban, but I'd like to point out something from that appeal. click me Here, it seems as though we have another issue of him being too literal with the laws of the AI. An AI should not be disobeying direct orders from any crew member unless there is an explicit conflict of the laws. Meaning, if a crew member tells you pipe down, you pipe down. I've also seen this issue with Hunnewle on other rounds. For example, his AI attempts to diagnose crew members with mental illness in order to bend them to its will without any real reason other than what I can only assume is some sort of power trip.
  20. I don't think so. To be quite honest, the psych's office is rarely ever used. It's good as the closet it is right now. We don't need a larger patient area considering we already have TWO patient rooms that offer privacy anyways if you need more space. I also don't see the ....need? for more space. You have a bed, a chair, all you really need. If we had more psychiatrists that actually did things, then I could see the need for more space if it was trafficked more. But as of right now, I don't see any need for it. EDIT: Why would we ever need a place to chat with other doctors in the psych's office? That's what the staff room is for. And I see the staff room used more than the psych office, switching them is just nonsensical. Also, the psych doesn't need an additional office space. If they're with a patient, they should be in the same room regardless.
  21. Due to the Meme Embargo and the Pagan celebrations, the administration and moderation team will be partially closed until February 29th. >You can still be PM'd, but are under no obligation to meet the five second deadline of answering said PM. >You can still post player and staff complaints, but they won't be looked at until the embargo ends, and even then we don't look at them anyways. >Happy Holy Days ~Memelord Incog
  22. Can we not. We don't really need more races shoehorned into the lore, and we aren't a furry STATION. Let's not promote further fursona perpetuation. :^)
  23. I'm just pointing out all this could've been avoided easily, but here I am anyways. What will I do differently if I get unbanned? Start shaping up my characters a tad more and look at how much Aurora has changed before doing anything. I can honestly promise so much after a year, but since a lot of stuff have changed, all I can say is, start fitting with the environment and try to remain positive, that's pretty much all to there is to it. My only wish right now is to get back into Aurora and start over again, who knows, I might actually get well with those I had not before, times change. What about OOCly? I haven't really seen much of any improvement in your OOC personality, to be quite honest.
  24. By APF, I'm assuming you mean APT. Asset Protection Team. Your custom items are probably as outdated as Tish's mom.
