  1. I'm planning on reworking Chaplain sometime in the new future. It's a role I love to see people play, but hate to play myself. It feels like Aurora development proceeded and left it in the dust. Given how I'm not particularly religious myself, and that I'm kinda stupid, I thought it'd be a good thing to gather feedback from the community BEFORE even starting. So, what would you like changed, removed, added? Do you have any sprites to contribute that I can put into the game? Sound effects, alt-titles, etcetera? (Note: if sounds and sprites get added, good licensing must be considered!) The one thing that's off-limits is adding feminine versions of the job name (ie. Priest -> Priestess), as that will unfortunately mess with the job-code. If you're wondering what prompted me to start this change, someone asked me for the best looking bible sprite, so I went into the .dmi's and found this: (aw man)
  2. This is something I'd really like to hash out as well. There were a few ideas raised, and personally I like the following one the most: The Departmental Head can order the officer around as a head normally would, but the Head of Security can override that order at any time. That's better than joint custody for two reasons. The officer doesn't have to rules lawyer and get in trouble for listening to the wrong person, and the Head of Security can organize his people to defend the station if it's needed. What this'll do in effect, is make it so that the Head of Security doesn't have to babysit his officers anymore, something a few of the HoS players I've talked about it with seemed to enjoy greatly.
  3. I've not seen your roleplay in-game, so I can't comment on that, but your backstory is perfectly a scenario I envisioned a wastelander, and especially a Gawgaryn to be! Big +1 on that front. The jump from Moghes to NSS Aurora is a bit sudden and jarring, and it could use some ironing out, but ultimately it doesn't matter too much, I have an easier time working on character backstory details when I'm actually playing the character, myself. The sharing of a clan is fine, having characters in the same clan is good for RP, and is actually a benefit. Co-operation between players makes my heart glow. Fantastic application!
  4. We'll see. I have high hopes, but I have no qualms putting it down if it sucks.
  5. It gives them the ability to be integrated in the department and roleplay with them instead of coming from outside and talking to them in their lobby. The true extent to which this would enhance the roleplay and hamper the antags would only be discovered during a long playtest (testmerge).
  6. It can be played like this, but does it?
  7. Inside the department, helping the people of the department with their duties. Talking to people in the department, or outside the department if there's no one in the department.
  8. Depends on the slots people roll for. The people who want to roll for that department will naturally make friends with that department. Getting reassigned to different stations makes sense from an IC perspective. I don't think so, but I'll take neither your word or mine until we've tried it out. Does it encourage you to leave your posting?
  9. Literally nothing. Departmental Security is the project. I am well aware what you're talking about. You don't like it, and that's fine. Yes, that is what Departmental Security is. Currently the "Security Department" is: The Head of Security, The Warden, The Detective, The Forensic Technician, The two Cadets, The General Officer. Just because you dislike it, doesn't mean everyone dislikes it. Yes, four departmental officers: Medical, Cargo, Engineering, Research. One General Officer: Security.
  10. Yes. Also, I claimed that you won't get hamfisted into something you don't like (which is true!), not that the project isn't hamfisted. I actually think the project is pretty good. If ya wanna use ammunition, use it correctly!
  11. If ya have the slots you want selected and someone else gets 'em, it's exactly what happens to security slots now, ya get booted back to the lobby. (Depends on your settings)
  12. Yeah, absolutely! This is a fuggen ugly version of my devbuild, I'm not sure how I'd fix it but I'll try before it gets released to the players: As you can see, the officers are literally different jobs. One the screenshot I'm readied up for "High" on the general officer, and NEVER on the others. That means I will NEVER be a departmental officer. Using this, you can finetune precisely what you want to spawn as, and not be hamfisted into a department you hate. The faction system also works for this, exactly as described (though I still have that bug I'm fixing with the IDs).
  13. Apologies for my recent lack of replies, I'm right around the start of my finals post-graduation, so I'm quite busy as you can imagine. I've been reading all the feedback and will certainly keep them in mind for tweaks I deem necessary. So far a few of you have suggested making it an opt-in deal, which does sound like a good idea. My thoughts is to have a testmerge it as-is for roughly a week or so (of course it'd be less if it's universally hated, we're not cruel :P). That'd allow us to get some good data on what we like and what we dislike. The current state of the PR is that it's near completion, the only issue I still really have is that contractors that spawn in don't have the correct ID access, but everything else works pretty well. I might ask a mapper to shrink the brig as well, cuz it's pretty huuuuge. But, as I said, testmerge first before we do anything drastic. A big change such as this won't go through without testing it for a while first. I'm not sure if this was answered by myself yet, kinda forgot, so I'll say it here. Officers currently have access to: Common, Departmental Channel and Security in their radio headsets. This allows them to be in contact with both their departmental head and the head of security. What my ideal view on it would be for the officer to focus more on what the departmental head has to say on Green, and more on what the Head of Security has to say on Blue through to Delta. Of course this can lead to problems like "he said she said" and command people losing their shit, but I expect command whitelisted players to be respectful enough, as is their duty as part of the most important whitelisted role. As for the other discussions taking place. It's getting pretty spicy, and I know this PR seems threatening. But I'd like if both the Pro-DepSec and the Anti-DepSec sides would simmer down a little. Tearing eachother apart for something I'm doing isn't something I'd like to see, and if someone's tearing into someone else, I'd rather them tear into me. As a closing statement, I do actually read all the feedback, and you guys have some pretty good ideas. We'll see what the future holds. (Maybe the NBT erases all of this anyway, making it meaningless. Woo-wee.)
  14. Yes, the PR originally died because of bad management. Very funny. I will handle it.
  15. Their jurisdiction is to be decided by the CCIA (and probably staff as a whole). Whatever @ben10083 mentioned is him theorizing without asking literally anyone involved with the project. Please fact-check before ass-pulling, especially if you're a member of staff.
  16. Coding reminder that getting assigned to a certain department is opt-in. You have to specifically ready for the departmental roles you want to get.
  17. After many displays on various discord servers, I have a strong belief that the "issues solved by medication" regarding conflict has in fact not been solved, and continues to be a problem. I would want someone that is fun to interact with as a team as maintainer, and I don't think you cut it. For this reason, I would say -1. On a basis of personal opinion, which might factor into this tenure as maintainer, I would vastly prefer Synthlore not fall into big-words for the sake of having big-words and hard sci-fi, which doesn't fit our server atmosphere. For that reason as well, I would say -1. The lore team needs to work together, and I can't see myself or some of my friends on the lore team working with you.
  18. That's being changed to dual authority, with some hijinks when code levels increase. The idea is still in the development stages.
  19. Radio Channels:
  20. Made Research Less Depressing:
  21. I've updated them to have both channels in their radios, but they do not follow the Head of Security's orders explicitly. They still remain under the command of their department's head. Of course this changes if the department has no head, in which case normal operation continues. Cargo Office: Science Office: (I know you're a bit isolated in this one, but the intention is for you to walk around the department, not stay in the office.) Engineering Office: Medical Office: (Same as research, didn't really have enough space. You do have a nice view of the lobby though.)
  22. Application has my approval from the perspective of the lorewriter. It also has my approval of being a great story, exactly what myself and the dionae team envisioned for a wasteland dionae to go through. Additionally, it also has my approval as a friend, your roleplay is fantastic, Doxx, I fully believe you're capable of playing an amazing dionae gestalt.
  23. This has my official Scalie stamp of approval. Praise the sun.
  24. Your application is fantastic, your OOC conduct is fantastic. I've not seen your writing yet, but I believe you are destined for great things. +1 Just a few questions from my side, just for curiosity's sake. 1) Will you participate more on the main Aurora discord, as well as the IPC specific one? Interacting with the playerbase you're writing for is vital. It's also incredibly useful. I've given people prompts for stuff I want to write, and they write it for me via their thoughts and suggestions. 2) Do you agree with the IPC Mechanic Rework that Kyres started? Will you allow it to be continued to work on if you get accepted? https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/6296
