  1. Ay, I appreciate the sentiment Frances, but I do remember a few time I've gotten sarcastic and/or insulted people during a rant. In that aspect, maybe not a lot, but it definitely has happened. Guaranteed that whenever I post it is usually constructive, but occasionally those constructive posts will have a bit of mood in there - guess it's no black and white dichotomy. I do recall one of my sassy posts on the paperwork thread, which was basically to drive a point home in a satirical manner. I was sarcastic and actually argued in a half-assed manner (still laying down my points, mind you) because I was very burnt out that day from things happening within the timeframe, including metabullying I was experiencing. I've received a warning since then, and I have toned down my posts substantially; even so, I do recall a thread I tried to start civilly getting torn down by tone-policers when I was calm as day and trying to get things resolved nicely. After this thread, it became a confirmation the true issue people had with me is what I was critiquing (something they identified with themselves), rather than how I critiqued it. I have been less passionate lately as I have lost desire to play on the server, people might prefer me that way. But generally, I think that if people swallowed their pride, and we focused less on the symptoms of the community and focused on what is causing unrest, things would be solved a lot faster.
  2. People have not been listened to, and/or have been dismissed in the past, and this leads to frustration. This is what I see as natural. Person B however, their reaction is natural yes. But it is the most negative in my eyes because it shows that they do not care for honesty in the situation, or the fact that maybe yes, something is wrong - and therefore is dangling the prospect of what is frustrating person A to being solved by telling them to change their tone. They might even secretly acknowledge their actions have been harmful or wrong but do not care because they are trying to control how people react to said actions. Some people might see that as reasonable but I do not; that is an exercise of power in some cases. That's right; I am labeling that controlling behaviour. Simply put, if you step on someone's toes accidentally, I can get why someone might say something like you said. You know? A miscommunication of sorts, a simple sorry, no need to bicker right? But in my philosophy, which applies to this situation, if someone steps on someone elses' toes deliberately, or steps on their toes indirectly to achieve another goal or their own satisfaction but does not care about the other person's feelings, tries to justify this act, etc - that person has already broken civility, the person responding to that behaviour has not been the one to break the "peace". There are no "two wrongs don't make a right" about this situation - the person has every right to express anger and frustration and dare I say it - make a complaint. So if I can put this straight, the anger and the tone of the posts are the most minor aspect of this community. I don't care what tone people write their posts in. In fact, if I've ever gotten angry at someone it's because of actions people have tried to get away with like being unfair, compared to if they lost their cool during a heated debate. I can forgive and forget the latter very quickly as it is human, the former will actually make me resentful and I will not be able to trust whoever does it.
  3. Removing the complaints board will not fix the internal issues within the community that is causing stuff to happen. So no, a bit pointless.
  4. Firstly, I believe that heavy RP is an interactive story collaborated by dozens of players. All players have the freedom to contribute to this story, like a big cooking pot with multiple chefs. Secondly, about this 'cooking' pot, some people are good chefs and can bring great ingredients to the concoction, some people are inexperienced chefs who have good intentions who might screw up here and there, some people are some jackasses who snuck into the kitchen who throw poop in the pot, and there's great experienced chefs who can save the food from the worst disasters. I think the good chefs, the great chefs, and the inexperienced chefs need to be encouraged to work together and learn together, ayy? Just maybe develop a recipe together, be considerate and think of each other's enjoyment in-game, things won't be perfect all the time but the important aspect is to have fun. The shitters who snuck into the kitchen to throw shit into the pot need to be sussed out by the head chef (admins). But! The most important question here, which needs to be defined by the head chef is, "What are we cooking?". Only then we can define standards of what is 'good' and 'bad' RP for the server. Otherwise you're going to have a bunch of chefs bickering on if we should make this undefined dish sweet, salty or spicy. Coming off the terrible analogy. When it comes to any story, there are certain things that must be defined: How close to realistic/far from realistic is this story? Or are there parts that are and aren't realistic? What is the atmosphere of this story/How light-hearted is this story? etc.
  5. Imagine this. A purple box that looks much like the monkey cube box, but it's purple and has a "C" on it. It is filled with cubes that expand into carp when exposed to water. The wrapped and unwrapped cube will be listed as a "monkey cube", which means the traitoring purposes can be diverse - you can replace monkey cubes with these ones to fool a scientist or geneticist, for example. Obviously, if you're spawning carp for other purposes it'd be a stupid idea to put these cubes directly under a tap with you in the room. So a smart traitor will use it in a smarter way, IE: Placing a grenade full of water with a signaller nearby near the unwrapped cubes near your victims and yada yada. I don't think it's too OP due to the fact that these cubes should be pretty dear (IE: 5 telecrystals) and carps are killed very easily with lasers. It's interesting maybe?
  6. secret (I like surprises ) rp-revolution (because there's a chance everyone can have a part of this gamemode, though either side can get ganky) traitor (This only applies to traitors who do shit) extended cult (I like gamemodes where everyone can get involved, but the quality of this gamemode depends entirely on who is within the cult) malfunction (can either be fun, irritating or boring (if the AI is overly stealth, or tries not be be but gets nabbed early) mutiny (can occasionally be fun, if the drama extends beyond heads/sec, as rarely does) extend-a-traitormongous ninja (meh) vampire (meh again, fookin bats) changeling (Idunno man. People don't RP ling very well, even though it has tons of potential.) traitorchan heist (I really can't stand this gamemode. It's so boring I can't even) nuclear (nothing says "fun" than being locked up in your department for two hours with nothing to do or anyone to interact with. rip civilian sector)
  7. How is it? Might be too detailed but I'm not sure. pls comment and critique
  8. Due to how Aurora organizes their gamemodes, particularly nuclear, wizard, mutiny and many other antag rounds - security (and command, which has only five slots and needs a whitelist) will experience the gamemode a bit more. There's more things to do (arresting people), more paced, more action, and you will often by the only job rank who will consistently be involved with antags and will be well-informed on everything that's going on. Secondly, I think generally you'll find that despite what people here playing say about it, Aurora has the tamest antagonist/grief environment compared to Hypatia and Paradise, not saying it's perfect, per se, but you can definitely be security without dying most of the rounds. On Paradise, the antags spread themselves out more so nearly everyone will witness, or somehow see evidence of an antag during the round. Because of that, no one will feel the need to stack sec to feel the excitement of the particular game mode. Paradise has a slightly different community with different preferences than Aurora (that said, people on Paradise who prefer calmer rounds often just avoid peak hour). Antags are also a slightly more aggressive and people often cut the RP to an extreme during peak hour, and sometimes it's not optimal to get caught in the clusterfuck and have the responsibility to fix it as a security member, rather would just be in a role where they can be flexible if they want to duck out or go in. I wouldn't want to be caught up on a rev round on there for sure.
  9. Maybe it could be an R&D-created item?
  10. ... But will it blend tho?
  11. Sarko. Uh, being security AI (unless you've been commanded to do so, or your laws dictate you to actively hunt for suspicious behaviour/uphold corporate regulations) is a form of powergaming. I know it helps get antags more effieciently, but it makes it almost impossible for a round of antag actions to take place - which is kind of what antags are for. Overzealous AIs ruin changeling rounds, traitor rounds, inhibit revolutionary/cult rounds and encourage antags to be overly stealth (which can lead to powergaming or boring rounds). I used to play AI like that, it's fun to do but consider what it's like to be at the end of it.
  12. Hey, I don't mind mimes being kept. I'm usually average when it comes to emoting, but when I'm mime I'm god. Clowns however, I've seen RP'ing clowns but they're rare and sometimes people can't resist the urge to chucklefuck. But you know, there was this excellent Clown I knew from Hypatia named Honkculus, which wasn't a two-dimensional character and wasn't annoying even if people were prejudiced toward him. If we had Clowns they'd have to be whitelisted. Still, I don't think Aurora could appreciate even RP'ing clowns. I think, actors, entertainers, etc would be good. A stage put in the bar would be excellent, but people don't go into bars as much they used to because they're afraid of the label "barfly" which is attached to erp'ing snowflakes (which aren't that common tbh) and it's shame since it's a good place to RP and stuff. It's a pure RP role and without other people it's useless.
  13. In America, I hear it is 21. In Britain it's 18. etc I've seen players apply their own regional drinking age into the game, and I've noticed a bit of inconsistency. What's the drinking age for: Aurora Station/Odin And optionally: Tau Ceti/Mendell etc Sol - Earth Countries/Mars/Luna, etc

  15. Meh, that's funny though. If I want to say something, I just say it, sometimes in a way that does not consider the feelings of the recipient. Sometimes I'm angry when I do this, sometimes I'm not but want to get something out of the way. Also, that said, there's been times where my posts have been had any hostility in them at all and been interpreted as hostile, which made me realize it is also part perception as well. Some people are on edge about arguments to the point that a minor civil and friendly OOC disagreement can trigger a "Calm down guys!". Not sure about other people though, only they can reveal their own intentions. What do you define as passive-aggressive Tainavaa?
  16. I consider myself quite blunt, but this gets interpreted as passive-aggression. I get frustrated at times, and I end up binge eating the sugar I use to put on posts yeah? Fine, like call me aggressive but don't add the passive in front. C'mon man.
  17. Okay, so. I can kiiiiinda understand Jakers thread but not this one. This one's a bit passive aggressive in itself. I mean, I see aggression on forums, I see people not being friends and such. But I'm not quite sensing the passive aggressive... who is being passive?
  18. Hm. I don't think anyone would really complain too much about IC dicks tbh. There's a lot of IC dicks people don't mind, but on subject I'll mention the following. Considering the OP post. If a patient is brought into medbay with a septic limb that is causing toxin damage - they're still stable, do you continually inject them with anti-toxin hoping it will go down for good, or do you remove the septic limb and treat it after? Consider the issues causing the rift between the community as the septic limb. Unless they are dealt with, people will be people. Even if you were to remove the specific people in the incidents, newer people with the same issues with take their place.
  19. Yeah, this definitely makes sense. Nothing worse when you're trying to hostage take as an antag and your gun target spends more time on the station comms telling it all than roleplaying the situation they're in. Possibly do that for PDAs as well?
  20. Cassie

    return?

Thundy I want you to stay, but it's ultimately your choice. Also, I am happy to see you well and everything.
  21. WIP on Penny Islington. yee
  22. See ya Skull. Good luck with your exams and whatnot.
  23. Blog entry: Memories of Aurora Station. 20th April 2457: Ah, wonderful stuff! The great thing about being a journalist is being that photographer and getting away with amateur photos. Nonetheless, I think these are really lucky snaps. See that IPC? He's Rusty (Note: Not actually rusty), he photobombed most of my pictures. But hey! I don't mind, he's a handsome silicon is he not? I believe he got damaged at some point, this is where newly acquainted Lachina Green stepped in to try and fix his wiring. It went well - apart from where Rusty's wire went flinging onto the floor because his hand was malfunctioning. I met Mr. Seto and his friends lounging in the bar, the most relaxed people I've met on station. How lovely! A drunken crewmember lays on the ground of the bar - EMT and the bartender have their work cut out for them. Vittorio a medical doctor is seen roaming through medbay. Doctor Lachina Green is shown talking to a patient who had caffeine overdose - like myself... can't lay off the coffee highs I admit. Well, that's it for today. #nanotrasen #medbay #civilian #engineering
  24. Recently, I had the honor of meeting CMO Na'Khar Sa'Kuate, an ambitious CMO from Aurora Station. What's it with me and CMOs? Somehow I believe NT CMOs are the best in the universe. All corners of life they come from. Check this out. "So, Mr. Sa'Kuate, when and how did you find Nanotrasen?" "Well, Na'Kharrr found Nanotrrrasen when he visited Biesel, forrr business." "This was about.. seven yearrs ago." "Well, he grrraduated with a masterrrs degrrree in surrrgical prractices and medical prrocedurres at the medical institute of Bayan." "He also worrked at a clinic, forrr two yearrrs in Nalyarrr." "So.. he had somewhat of beginnings, but he learrrned most at nanotrrasen." "Yes! Nanotrasen has wonderful faciliates for both service to their employees as well as further training, you did well!" "Tell me, about where you come from and what you do besides from being a doctor?" "Well, Na'Kharrr comes frrom the city of Nalyarrr." "Yes, your personal life Mr. Sa'Kuate." He blushes slightly. Oh, what's this? "Well, Na'Kharrr lives in Nalyarrr currently with his beautifull wife, Vetiv." "Nalyarrr is a small village in the trradiing hub of ahdomai, to those who don't know." "His only family rrreally is his brrotherr D'Jarr, who also worrks herre, and his wife." "And.. forr hobbies he likes to mess arrround with electrrical engineerrring." What a daredevil? Play? Electric? Hoh, we've got a badass over here... okay, look there was this one time as a kid I used to try rewiring things in my parent's mansion. I can kind of relate here. "Sounds like a beautiful place, and uh, don't get shocked there!" "He's been rrebuilding a scrrapped ship with his brrotherrr forr about two yearrs now, although he moved away" "Do you have aspirations for the future Mr. Sa'Kuate? Or are you happy now?" Sa'Kuate raises his head, he seems to be thinking of something, but then he smiles. "He's honestly happy now, his only goals forr the futurrre arrre small ones." "Like.. becoming a pilot." "A pilot! I love it!" "Wait so, why he does his job?" "Well.. long storry shorrt, he likes saving lives. And has always been fasciniated by physical anatomy." "He actually rrruns a clinic forrr victims of the warr ron ahdomai." "But.. he may have to go do medical duties now, so he's gotta rrrun." At that moment, the busy CMO was headed for the door. What a busy man! "Thank you for everything." Our interview ended here. Go save some lives Mr. Sa'Kuate!
