Sorry, I'm really gay scatterbrained and forgot about this. I moreso meant, how is the amount of utilons determined for any given task without the AI consciously determining them? It goes in hand with the question about the AI altering the amount of utilons assigned to any given task to better meet its own needs rather than pre-programmed morals and ethics.

[Denied] Hexalotl's IPC Whitelist Application
CakeIsOssim replied to Hexalotl's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Application denied. I highly suggest you play on the server for another month or two before attempting to apply again. I also ask that you PM me (discord preferred, Cake#4864) if you wish to know the specific reasons why your application has been denied as well as suggestions on how to improve it. -

Hello, please fix your formatting. Question titles and other headers should be bold only. Your responses should not. And it does not need to be color coded. I probably won't read your application until it is done. -

I have my own issues with this application. Let's tackle them for a moment: 1. Your backstory is way too "happily ever after," if that makes any sense. It does possess moments of negativity, though from the viewpoint of the android, they don't really seem that negative to her. "She was owned by pirates, then a nice pirate, then a nice NT employer gave her a nice golden membership." Reality, especially for synthetics, is not this easy. 2. People are not nice to robots. While I do think you have a genuine understanding of the IPC, I do not think you understand fully their place in an organic's society. They are abused, traded, sold, stolen, scrapped, remade, and generally not really cared about because most of them are (and are considered) property. Now, don't get me wrong. Synthetic supporters exist, but the likelihood of running into those with such powerful connections and/or the willingness to go to such lengths to help a completely random android is... very, very low. Finally, 3. Synthetics are not considered people, they cannot be employed in the same manner as humans. A synthetic without a registered owner and without a registered citizenship will likely be turned over to a scrapyard, or forced to work for the people they are attempting to be employed by. NanoTrasen would not hire an IPC without an owner or a citizenship, they would just take them. And make them work. For little or no wages. If the synthetic had an owner, the owner would be signing their contract for them. These are all very structural points in your character's backstory, and I honestly do not feel comfortable accepting your application until I am convinced that you understand the synthetic's strife. I am predicting you may have to re-write the entire backstory, though I will see what you come up with. I will be marking this as needing attention, so that you may address these points. -

NanoTrasen would be willfully violating federal law by doing such, and while this may not actually be the biggest issue for them, it would create a disaster for public relations. I think you're just going to have to find a way to have it subtly removed. Application accepted. -

Just to inform you now, I do want to accept your application and add you to the whitelist. I'm curious, though, as to how you intend to hide their status as an IPC, if their tag will need to be removed by someone during a round? -

Before I process this application any further, I must inform you that while, yes, you decide what is canon for your character, it is distasteful to do so at a very high rate so that your character ends up fucking about way more than they should but you don't consider it canon so your character's record remains officially clean. I won't really inquire into how much fucking about you actually do in-character, but I must ask that if you're going to do a lot of it, you must not be picky. Our rules on decision of canon applies mainly to deaths, traumatic events, major injuries... something that would seriously affect the character's life. Are you capable of using this ability to its intended level and/or frequency? -

Application accepted. You, specifically, should enjoy this considering the majority of the interaction I had with your characters that I recall, they were pretty anti-synthetic. -

CakeIsOssim replied to Kiha's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Before I even begin with the actual meat of my feedback, I must inform you that IPCs (shells included, their existence is the main reason all IPCs are tagged) are tagged with a very visible device to mark them as synthetics. It bears their name, classification, serial number, whatever else. Basically, it cannot really be disguised. It can, however, be removed IC through an operation. It can also be replaced if you are found without one. While I like the idea of a shell who is intended to be a perfect mimicry of humanity, as I have not really seen this done before, I am left curious. Do you understand the purpose of the IPC in general? Their place in society? Their strife? If you played a baseline IPC, would you understand that it may be unacceptable for it to act as human as a shell? -

When the servants were "released," what does it mean by released? Freed? No strings attached? Most synthetics rarely get the opportunity to just be allowed to up and leave and work on their own without someone calling them their property. How did this happen? -

I failed to check this before I read your application the first time, but now that I've checked it, I feel inclined to bring it up with you and ask you: You have a week ban for grief, and while it was issued a day after the first day you were seen on the server, I still do not like this. Bad vibes. About nine days after that, a permaban for consistently committing suicide. These all occurred within the two months you have played on the server in total. To be quite honest, I get a bad feeling from this. We were all new once, yes, and I may make the mistake sometimes of giving people the benefit of the doubt but I still do it. Whitelists are a privilege, of which can be easily abused and does not reflect well on the people in charge of the whitelists or staff team. Can you assure me that you are taking the server and its rules seriously now? -

While you seem to have a good understanding of the IPC, I think there is an issue here. It would be very unlikely for a positronic brain to be recovered by NT and then immediately repurposed for head of staff, especially if it wasn't intended to be a long-term task. (Also the Pantheon is a research and robotics station, but, this isn't a big deal - just pedantics.) Perhaps if it was older? Or just not made into a head of staff? Anything to correct the progression of the character's place in the world would work, really. -
The short of the long is, Jackboot and I do not want a cyberpunk universe, where humans have become one with machines. And, as Coalf has said, putting organic brains into an IPC completely changes what being an IPC is all about. They would become, dare I say it... humans with metal bodies, because now they are given an actual excuse to act human. Now, full body prosthesis does exist in the lore, but it is extremely rare, mostly being undertaken by the wealthy (and stupid). It is not common enough to see FBP chassis on the station from day to day.

To be honest, neither of them particularly strike my fancy as something I'd like to see in-game. I think this is because these are just heads. If I saw them on a complete body, I will probably change my mind. I do want to see the finished product (I also like the white head better than the black one, because the black one looks like it has a flat top). Perhaps, you could make a few more?

A pretty basic backstory, but it gets the job done well enough, I think. However, I'm curious as to why an industrial frame would be deployed in a forensics setting. Industrial frames are big, bulky, heavy, and designed to take a beating and survive in hostile conditions and keep on ticking. Not something that particularly strikes me as a lab coat-wearing investigator. -
I'm a little curious; what team would be willing to develop the same simulated intelligence for almost 100 years? Other than that, I think everything else is good. I just want to know a little bit more about this 101 year old computer program.
