  1. BYOND Key: VTCobaltblood Game ID: bXm-cfHm Player Byond Key: TheOrleans Staff involved: None Reason for complaint: AI rulelawyering. A traitor (ckey Athirson) stole the spare and did various non-malicious things. At the end of the round, as I presume, the antagonist decides to stop by Engineering and visit Atmospherics. Without the antagonist doing anything yet, the AI suddenly states the following: As the justification for its actions, it then uses this: Other players (DasFox, Hocka and me) then proceeded to discuss the issue with TheOrleans. I believed that he is a new AI player, as I don't remember encountering this AI before, and proceeded to give my feedback on his AI play. However, TheOrleans ignored this feedback completely and even resorted to ad hominem, which led me to believe that I cannot reason with him in any other way other than placing a player complaint. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No. Two reasons for this: 1) the round was ending; 2) the incident slipped past me, I've only noticed it once other people started discussing it in OOC and only felt the need to place a player complaint after TheOrleans's attitude towards player feedback. Approximate Date/Time: 16.11.2018 roughly 4:10 PM GMT
  2. I believe all vendors have the access wire, even if they aren't access restricted. I'm pretty sure that could be also made to check whether or not you need to pay for items.
  3. Of course, of course. It's pretty not per regulations. It could be a petty theft charge or a vandalism charge for non-maliciously messing with station equipment.
  4. It's something really, really minor, but would be pretty neat for RP. The first thing anyone would think of doing when hacking a vendor IRL would be to get the cola for free, wouldn't it? Perhaps a new wire could be added, or it could be governed by the same wire that makes vendors access-locked/unlocked.
  5. Necropolis is a bland, generic Evil Inc. Like, naming yourself Necropolis? Seriously? Great way to ruin your PR from the get-go.
  6. Are there any actual reasons for virology and the virus event to stay? Honestly, I'd just remove them both. They contribute nothing to RP, and all that viruses can do is, basically, kicking you out of the round for 10 minutes if a virologist is present. Why cling to it? Virology isn't really appealing even on /tg/, where it has beneficial viruses and other "fun" stuff. If anything, this job is just a way for traitors to create brain rot or something. Aside from that, virology never contributes anything to the round or to RP. It exists solely for this event, and this event is very boring for everyone involved.
  7. Not going to lie, I'm not robust, nor do I know much about antagonism, but when I first saw the vault by observing a traitor, it seemed... really really lame? The whole design of the vault just screams "underwhelming". The loot doesn't seem that nice, either. It looks more like a random storage room that just so happened to be filled with RIGs, instead of being The Vault. That's just my 2 cents.
  8. Small text notice on top/underneath? I'm imagining it kinda like integrated circuit descriptions. Inobtrusive, below the main part.
  9. I don't think this is barebones. This simply explains one aspect of a thing. If I simply want to outline why vendors throw things at people, why do I need to think up the food corporations lore? It doesn't really make much sense to me.
  10. I don't really like the concept of "Schrodinger's lore". I would prefer it way more if we actually had an explanation for how posibrains work, where golems come from, how slimes work, how carps survive and why vendors throw things at people randomly. I can accept Schrodinger's lore for non-canon things, such as wizards, vampires, Nar'sie etc, though. I guess I'm not really the one to argue with an admin about this. If writing in-game books about minor lore things like these and regarding them as canon is alright, then I guess this thread isn't really needed, and I would really like it if it was clarified somewhere that books can invent minor lore points.
  11. I don't really think it's because of laziness, moreso just game convenience - you need to only hack a vendor once to be able to hack other vendors. Vendors being named by food brand rather than the vendor machine itself's manufacturer isn't that far of a stretch, anyway. I really doubt that a food company would have a facility to produce machinery. As for what you've added, well, I guess. This could be an in-game book or something, though, for it to be logged.
  12. Despite that, each of the vendors has exactly the same wires and functionality, which is pretty unlikely if they are all made by different companies. I'm inclined to believe that the foods in these vendors are outsourced (so, Chipco vendor only contains foods made by Chipco and subsidiaries, etc.), but the vendor technology itself is NT's - or, really, anyone else's, since vendor machines being manufactured by NT isn't really a key point here. damn
  13. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): N/A Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): N/A Region of Space: N/A Controlled by (if not a faction): N/A Other Snapshot information: what Long Description: This is an explanation of why vendors randomly throw things at people which I've been using for some time. Make it canon big plz. To say that NT's vendor technology is a mess is a huge understatement. The printable vendor blueprints were made in a huge rush for the NTCC Odin opening deadline, and have not been updated for over a century. As such, many leftovers of scrapped technology are still present because their creators had no time to remove them, and are accidentally turned back on in their unfinished state due to technical oversights. One example of such a technology is the vendor voice activation. After saying a certain codephrase along with your selection, the vendor would throw the selected item at the user for them to catch, and automatically pay for it from the employee's paycheck. The throwing mechanism was almost perfected, with the vendor easily both locating the target and launching the desired object. However, the voice recognition technology was very far from finished. In the state that it currently is, the thrower seems to be activated from random sounds, including steps, opening doors and sufficiently loud breathing. Software-wise, the vendor always listens for the signal to launch. However, the microphone is mechanically turned off. Damaged wire insulation can lead to the microphone wire catching a signal to turn on, which is usually combated by just cutting the microphone wire off entirely. Important Note: kill me
  14. Though they very rarely do. I'd argue that roboticists should be worth more than scientists because making mechas is quite easy (if you've got materials on hand, of course), but gun/bomb-savvy scientists are pretty rare. At least in my experience as a sci main. Not to mention that nobody ever remembers that Science absolutely loves and adores needs non-testing firing pins.
  15. RnD can produce ion laser modulators, with which you can potentially create an ion weapon better than the usual ion rifle. However, they need a material shipment and someone who knows how to make guns - they can't just print a ready ion rifle, they need to assemble their own laser weapon which will fire an ion beam.
  16. I retract this app. Actually being on trial made me realize I'm not ready for Command just yet.
  17. I think the photo album would be sweet. The phrase guide doesn't really fit because Sol isn't the only system speaking Common, and a travel pamhplet feels like a thing that could be on anyone, not just someone from Sol. What about my other questions, though? Will we be able to enable only one of these? And how will we get the Frontier item? Since, you know, the systems inputted in "Other" could be something else than the Frontier Alliance.
  18. You know that's the only reason I even play.
  19. BYOND Key: VTCobaltblood Character Names: http://prntscr.com/lgllyy Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): An inky #000066 (0,0,102), which is #5959bf in-game. http://prntscr.com/lglvsa Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Of course Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Because all the cool kids play Skrell Skrell have got a lore update recently, and I've really enjoyed reading through it. I find their cultural elements pretty interesting, and a really fun thing to play around with and to try and integrate into new characters. I also enjoy talking about scientific lore IC-ly, and the technologically advanced skrell seem to be an ideal race for that. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: While they seem to be moved by nothing except logical and rational decisions to a non-skrell observer, they actually are so extremely emotional that the level of emotional responses they are able to produce is next to impossible to be detected by anyone else. An average skrell is also more intelligent than a human and has a strong distaste of AIs (although non-sentient robots are okay). They are not as fluent in Ceti Basic as other species can be due to Ceti Basic not covering the nuances of their native language, Nral'Malic. Character Name: Zixxrim Volquu Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Zixxrim was born into an extremely prestigious family of a senior Gliutip’lyaz lecturer father and an idolized politician mother. Being raised by such important people was both a blessing and a curse - while, of course, he has been living in luxury for his entire youth, as a son of an idol, he had essentially no choice but to become a prestigious scientist, no choice but to enroll in Gliutip'lyaz where his father worked, no choice but to be an ideal image of a Jargon citizen. Fortunately, Zixxrim was proven to be anything but unfit for the high expectations set for him, and even embracing them - although he is not a genius by Gliutip'lyaz standards, he had worked extremely hard for many years to finish his degree with exceptional grades. This amount of hard work has had a strong effect on his character: he looks down upon anyone not as educated and smart as him as lazy, unproductive and largely useless members of society - he thinks that if he was able to work so hard, other can and must do so as well. Graduated as a weapons researcher, NanoTrasen was quick enough to offer him a contract as a phoron researcher on the Aurora. His parents were debating whether or not they should let his son leave Jargon for quite some time, but in the end, they gave Zixxrim the green light to spread the Jargonian pride in Ceti space. What do you like about this character? To almost anyone, Zixxrim would come across as kind of a dick, looking down upon everyone, and especially the non-skrell. However, he has a good, completely justified reason to do so, and I think that this could cause some interesting interactions between him and others, especially other skrell. There is also an element of double subversion to him: while skrell usually subvert people's expectations of them to be rude and curt by actually displaying a wide array of emotion in Nral'Malic, Zixxrim actually often is as rude and arrogant in Nral'Malic as he is in Basic. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'll just quote this from my command application:
  20. I like these, but not the Sol item. My character has fully immigrated from Sol to Ceti, so he has Sol as his home system, but Biesel as his citizenship - he doesn't travel from Sol to Ceti everyday. I'd like to see some martian cultural identity too - can't see the reds spawning with something associated with Sol, I'd imagine they'd have something else instead (loadout item, maybe?). Also, is it possible to enable only one of these? And how is the Free Frontier home system item determined - is it an item that you get when you pick "Other" as your home system?
  21. To clarify, I consider most mechanical tips useless because they either touch extremely obscure points of mechanics that can be looked up in a guide (or should definitely be included in a guide instead of round tips), or give a very broad statement on the level of "X mechanic exists". Can be pruned/rewritten to cover something more general and useful than oddly specific department tips when such a department might not even be staffed at all? Sure. But I'd rather have something else. Meme of the round
  22. I like this suggestion because the current mechanical tips are entirely useless. This does not mean removing the good memes from the rotation, I hope. +1
  23. I like shotguns with incendiary rounds. Plz add them to loadout since i main sci and cant get them. One of these is a gameplay balance issue, the other is purely aesthetic. Nice false equivalency though friendo. I like my character running around naked, and this is purely aesthetic. Why can't I let my character run around naked?
  24. Plz yes
  25. If the excuse for cloaks is NT profiting off other cultures, why do humans have them in their loadout? I don't mind cultures that actually normally wear cloaks having them in their loadouts, but this is too outlandish for humans, at least. If cloaks are supposed to be Cool, why not actually make them Cool by having them as a premium item in a clothing vendor, or a random find in maintenance/warehouse/other random spawns, or purchaseable in cargo, instead of them just being available to anyone? I'm not in favor of removing rule of funny/rule of cool clothing completely - I just think that it should be accessible by other means than just spawning with them, to further enforce the funniness/coolness. not to mention that seeing the loadout flooded with them makes me grit my teeth everytime
