...Huh. Would you know it, I've never noticed that button before. Good to know, and thanks lmao. I think I'll still keep this open, though, since I am both lazy and greedy for convenient features. :V

What the title says. I've been sitting on making this suggestion since we switched from old-forums waaaaay the heck back, since we didn't have anyone who was capable of coding it, and then I forgot about it until now due to my absence. Old forums had the option to mark threads as read, either temporarily (until someone posted again in the thread), for a week, or permanently. In general, but especially with the influx of shitposting on the off topic boards (no offense to the shitposters, y'all keep doing your thing), I find that it's hard to keep track of new threads. The bookmarking function helps separate out threads I do want to follow, but as far as I know, there's no way to separate out threads I want to ignore. It's minor, but it'd be a nice addition, and give people the option to make the unread posts page be less of a mess without manually opening every thread.

Because then my above strategy would be completely useless. Is there a way to make it temporary in living characters, but permanent in dead people? Something that gets processed (very slowly) in the blood? It sounds... probably way too complicated coding-wise, but. That'd address both ends, ignoring the noise level of the sting previously mentioned, anyway. ...Also, if you have anyone changing back suddenly in front of someone else, it might make "evidence" for them being the shapeshifting intruder, rather than the real changeling.

I haven't been able to connect to the server the last two times I tried; is it down?
-
Hey guys. I haven't, to my recollection, signed onto the server in well over a month. Maybe two. I don't have the consecutive hours anymore to play spess, with school and other RL commitments. I can't in good faith call myself a Primary Admin when I can no longer commit myself to the community. So I'm retiring from my position as Primary Admin. Frances will be taking over whitelist applications and delegating as she sees fit. I'm not leaving the community to any higher degree than I already have, and once things settle out I'll probably come back and play, and/or help moderate for a bit. But as I don't anticipate having more than a few weeks in the near future where I'll have anything resembling free time, it doesn't make sense for me to stay a Primary. So yeah. See y'all around on the forums, and have fun in space. -Lessick

AlpineAl/Habib - Head of Staff Whitelist Application

Thread locked for inactivity, lack of author response, and lack of positive feedback. Feel free to reapply at any time. -
Can you show what the other alarms would look like when they're activated, and/or when the code is blue or red? The third is pretty obvious what would change, but I can't tell how the second would convey that.

I feel this, completely. To a degree it's why I haven't even been on the server at all lately; on top of being swamped with schoolwork/rl and not having the consecutive hours to spare, I feel like I can't engage at the level I'd like to. And when I do try to play, and play as my characters-- because that's what I do miss-- I feel guilty for not being as active as moderation staff as I'd like to. So either way I lose; if I can even find time to spend, I'm wasting it, either by not playing, or by not moderating. It's not a feeling I like, really, and I regret that I can't volunteer the hours I'd like to. And as for pushing away friends, or being pushed away by friends, I also understand that feeling too. Getting invested in other people's characters has always been what makes me get invested in their players; if I can't play, or can't play in an immersed way, I have a hard time connecting. I dunno if there's a solution, other than maybe, mandatory admin vacations or the like for active modmin staff, more delegation/dividing of tasks & who's responsible for them. It wouldn't change much for me, but more active staff, maybe. But actually enacting something like that is the hard part.

While this application looks good, and has addressed the one comment it got, it lacks positive/substantial feedback. If nobody else posts, I'll be closing the thread in a few days, as it's been inactive for nearly a month. -

KONFL1QT: Head of Department Application

Considering the character's background and experience, it is acceptable for her to be 28/29 (whichever you had it at), and you do not need to age her up immediately. And if you do age her up regardless, you don't have to play it like she'd been held back arbitrarily. Regardless, application accepted. -

The Politics thread(Insert Trigger warning here)

Pack up, folks, slavery is over! Let's just ignore the system of racism and oppression left behind by this, the cultural degradation of people of color, immigrant plantations, human trafficking, what have you. Praise every person who stops beating their spouse. Sure, they did punch them half to death, but they stopped on their own after awhile, right? That makes it perfectly okay! Good job on only murdering like, nine hundred people, you could've gone for an even thousand, and you didn't! What a good person! Have a cookie! That guy over there murdered a thousand, you're doing so much better! No. The fact that slavery was commonplace in other parts of the world at some point does not magically fix the situation or make the fact that black people were enslaved in America any less shitty. It does not erase racism in our society, it doesn't change the fact that the attitudes and repercussions from the idea that black people were somehow lesser than white people, old-ass ideas that are still culturally enforced and prevalent today in a lot of places. It doesn't make it okay, and it certainly doesn't mean that caucasian people should get a pat on the back for being white. Like, yeah. I certainly didn't enslave anyone, I didn't want that to happen, I wasn't even alive to protest. That doesn't mean I'm going to celebrate my whiteness because the people before me stopped doing a terrible thing. -
They can only identify a few of them, like the gun and the chameleon projector. They at least know those things are contraband and reason to robust people caught with them. Cultists can walk around with their robes on and their book open, showing off their rune pages openly, and there's nothing Sec can do, and that's fine because it's not a threat Security is trained to understand. This leads to metagaming on both sides. Hence, expanding the Chapel with trained and knowledgeable personnel. Sec doesn't know about the Chamo projector. I've conned them out tons of antag equipment as RD as a result of this lack of knowledge. Yo. Check it out. http://baystation12.net/wiki/index.php/Identifying_Antagonists I've always referred to this when there's gray areas about what people should know about or not. It's not perfect, but a sec officer is fully in their rights to know that, hm, this isn't standard equipment, is highly suspicious, and is probably contraband. Re: chamo projector, anyway. That said, because of the vague and variable knowledge about the devices, it -would- be easy as a research director or scientist to be like, no, hey, this is just science shit, don't worry about it. ANYWAY. Re: Supernatural response squad. I feel like we would have to alter the lore or change the feel of some of the gameplay a degree by acknowledging these things as, well, things that exist. Validating cultists within the universe seems like it'd mean needing to validate wizards to a degree, and for NT to have this sort of squad would mean that in fact, supernatural forces are, if not common knowledge, knowledge at all, and something that the company recognizes. I think it'd be cool on another server, but I don't know if it fits with Aurora, especially considering that the station is supposed to be a (generally secular?) work environment. Also, going by that page, the chaplain should already have limited knowledge, and people who call the chaplains out on metagaming for calling cultists cultists (when they're doing suspect religious things) are probably being overbearing. ...That, or the chaplain is taking things too far.

Indie's head whitelist application

Yup. Application accepted. -
Making up names is not easy for everyone. Sometimes people have a character in mind, but no name to put to it. Having a generator can help brainstorm names without having to search and search for the perfect one on name sites or the like. Also, a lot of first-time players use the RNG-- people entering into the game without a huge idea of what to expect or an idea that they'll end up getting attached to their characters they make. I'm pretty sure way back when I was new, that's how I got my main character's name, Amelia Jameson. And I can immediately think of at least three other Amy/Amelias off the top of my head on-station. I'm for an increase in variety of names. People tend to favor certain names over others, but giving the option to have more options certainly wouldn't hurt anything, and might cut back on some of the samenaming we have.

CrAzYPiLoT's whitelist application

Locking & archiving. -
Just as a note, law four states, "Do not allow unauthorized personnel to tamper with your equipment," which I think is slightly open to interpretation, and doesn't strictly mean, "Don't allow modifications without reason" or "don't allow unauthorized [by heads] modifications." If the wire cut was done by a roboticist, whose job it is to fix and modify borgs, it could be argued that they were, in fact, authorized personnel, and a borg would not be obligated to report this.
