[Denied] Sniblet Skrell App 2
WhatsUpBrotendo replied to Sniblet's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
After reviewing this with my deputy, we've decided to deny this application. While you show an understanding of Skrell lore in some respects, we do not believe you have a sufficient understanding of the lore or the boundaries that it has. Based on what's been posted on this application, we believe that you will test what is acceptable by Skrell lore and the expectations we have of someone who holds the whitelist. You are free to reapply in a week. -
[Denied] Sniblet Skrell App 2

I don't consider antag gimmicks and how underplayed the species is to be acceptable answers on their own, and I'm responsible for the Skrell species. What the IPC and Vaurca teams deem acceptable doesn't interest me. I'm interested in what interest you have in Skrell and the lore behind them. You briefly touched on specifics in the answer when mentioning Glorsh and Einstein Engines, which I'd much rather see. If they have a social credit score, that means they have citizenship and all the benefits and drawbacks that come with it. Maintaining their score would be more imperative than what you're making it out to be considering that it means the Federation will have more interest in their behaviour and have the ability to deport them back to the Federation. I'm going to ask that you edit your application to address these points: Expand on what exactly interests you about Skrell. Rewrite the backstory to be about a Federation Skrell. While I'm fine with non-Federation applications (Skrell from Europa, Mictlan, etc) if done well, your answers are showing me that you have zero interest in one of the larger parts of our lore (the Federation), and would rather side-step it than acknowledge the impact that it has for your character, even though they have citizenship. -

Wanting to do antag gimmicks is not an acceptable answer for applying for a whitelist, and I'd like to see more details about why playing a Skrell is different from playing a human. The backstory for your character has a minimal mention of Skrell lore. There are definitely parts of Europan Skrell lore you haven't included here or expanded on much, and there are still other bits of our lore that you could incorporate (relationships, religion, etc). While you have included Social Credit Score for your character, you haven't explained how they experienced the process or how they feel about the Federation. This app needs to be reworked. I suggested in your last application to read through previous apps to see what we're looking for, and there's also the lore discord where you can discuss this with either me and Butter or other Skrell players. -
Nlom sensing having expanded function with sensors consoles.

I only just saw this suggestion last night and it's been discussed a bit by me and Butter. Overall I'm going to say I'm against this, but only for the Horizon. Skrell/Federation ships having access to technology that has psionic interface functionality makes sense and is already mentioned in the lore. The issue with the Horizon having access to that sort of technology is that it would mean the Federation would be sharing that technology with the SCC/the rest of the Spur, something that the Federation is very wary of doing. Could the Horizon gain this technology from a future Federation-focused arc? Possibly. There aren't any concrete plans for an arc like that at the moment though. Having this in the game would be good but I can't really see the point for the moment when its use would be restricted to third-party ships that (IIRC) don't even spawn where the Horizon is currently located. -
[Accepted]RyverStyx - Skrell Deputy App Pt. 2

Hi, good to see you applied again. Your proposal is fine as a WIP but please make sure that it's worked on if not completed by the time we come to a decision (a week from now at minimum). I don't really have much to say or ask since we worked together when you were the Skrell dev. I'll leave questions and feedback to other members of the community. Good luck! -
Managed to discuss with Butter and we both agree that the app is fine, but we would like you to expand on question 5 a bit more. Does Q'bal have any specific thoughts about either species' contributions to the Federation? How do they reconcile their general mistrust/dislike of either species with the fact that they're well-received by the Federation as a whole?

The titles are based on how many degrees you have, and all Skrell degrees are the same. A Junior Graduate with a degree in psychology will have the same knowledge as a Star Graduate that also took psychology for example. From the wiki: A Star Graduate might have gone further by gaining multiple degrees that are all related to each other, but that isn't to say that a Junior Graduate doesn't have the same level of education. You will have to change your character's studies to all be relevant to each other. If they're a security officer, degrees related to police work would be acceptable. More "general" degrees mixed in with job-specific qualifications would also be acceptable, such as history. From what you've said it seems like Q'bal taking a basic first aid course would give them the same ability to provide basic medical care without also meaning they have a degree in medicine. Your answers are fine but I do want to point out something about social credit scores thanks to how it works in-game. 4.1 is fairly close to entering the tertiary numerical band, and the code for the Federation passport in-game randomly changes your SCS by a few decimal points to reflect random changes to it. I can't remember the deviations exactly but in-game you might want to change this to be a bit higher so you're not dipping into tertiary territory every now and then. Other than that though I'm fine with what you've put down here. I'll try and discuss this with Butter and come to a decision by tonight or tomorrow morning.

I don't know if this is a reference to something since it was mentioned on the discord that Aweiji is a reference. In case it's not Aweiji was never icy, it was incredibly hot and humid which is why it was terraformed before it was colonised. You haven't mentioned what the third degree is, but this is a very broad education. From my reading of the backstory, your character has a medical and scientific background, and has been hired by Idris in their security division. Cross-departmental knowledge like this is not allowed, even for Skrell where it might be possible thanks to their lifespan. On to the questions: Q'bal is a secondary, but you haven't given a score for them as far as I can tell. What is their social credit score? Thanks to their upbringing, would you consider Q'bal to be an undersleeper or oversleeper, or have they returned to a normal sleeping pattern post-education? What religion does Q'bal follow? How does Q'bal feel about the Federation? How do they feel about non-Skrell in the Federation? Specifically Dionae and Vaurcae.

Hi, thanks for applying. Your character's backstory has several issues: Lekan village/The Starlight Zone has only been around for 2 years. There is little information regarding Skrell lore in the backstory. Please edit the backstory to include more Skrell-related lore and to account for the fact that they would not have grown up in the Starlight Zone. I suggest reading through previous applications to see what we're looking for, and you can always come onto the lore discord to ask either me or Butter or other Skrell players any questions you might have.

[DENIED] Sniblet's Skrell Application
WhatsUpBrotendo replied to Sniblet's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hi, thanks for applying. I want to point out some things said in the app. Skrell can be pretty much any colour thanks to modern technology (spa treatments), but we expect players to not be silly with it. For natural colourations that's covered under the Skrell ethnicities page. There aren't really any naming conventions, but I know Cael takes inspiration from Maori and similar languages for locations when he's made maps for our planets. As for "Qu" it's usually translated to "light" or "star", like the Qukala and its now dissolved Lukala (star enforcers and void enforcers respectively). I don't see an issue with it being used in a character's name, but I don't accept the nickname "quack" for a medical professional. This backstory isn't acceptable. It's meant to be your character's background and showcase how your character has interacted with the lore for the species. While you've mentioned SCS and other things, it mostly appears to be out of character ideas. 80 year old Skrell are definitely not considered children in Federation society, especially those with degrees. I'll be denying this app, but I encourage you to ask questions on the lore discord and look at other whitelist applications to get an idea of what we expect. You can reapply in three days. -
Hi, thanks for applying. Since it's the holidays this might get delayed a bit, but Butter and I will try and come to a decision by the 72 hour mark. I only have two issues to bring up. The character's first name is very similar to a Skrell dish called Qilvo, and the backstory itself is a bit sparse on details. The details can be sorted out by responding to any questions posted on the app, and I'm not going to ask you to edit the application. On to the questions: Where was your character born? What is their social credit score now? How old is your character? Are they a listener or a receiver? You've touched on their psionic capabilities, but this was never explicitly said. How do they feel about the Federation? Has their experience with learning drugs and depth college soured their view of the Federation entirely? How do they feel about the non-Skrell citizens of the Federation (Diona and C'thur Vaurca)? How does your character feel about Skrell who were born outside the Federation? What about those that are anti-Federation? What's their plan for the future? Do they intend to return to the Federation at some point? How do they feel about current events? Specifically surrounding the Federation, but also the Spur in general.

Hi, nice to see you back on the server! There's two things I want to point out in the backstory: During their coming of age ceremony, the object being burned is what Tii'Qi would have chosen, rather than burning the object that wasn't their choice. The sentence reads that they burned the constellation sketch and chose the model ship. Not an egregious error but I thought I should clarify. From the wiki section regarding Qwei'Paqui: "While stargazing is seen as a communal affair, the QweiâPaqui is seen as more personal since the individual draws their own cards. Sharing any divinations made is still common and tarot readings can be done as a group, but any interpretations that can be made are regarded as a personal matter that should not be assisted with." Fortune telling is not something that's done for this reason. Other than that the application is great! Your application covers pretty much most of what we'd ask, but I do have some questions about your character and their backstory: What is their SCS right now, as of joining the SCC? Did they manage to improve before they left the Federation? How do they feel about the Federation? How do they feel about Diona and Vaurca? Did they interact with either much before or after moving to Europa? Tii'Qi has some experience with humans thanks to working on Europa. Do they still find working with non-Solarian humans difficult? Do they possibly find it easier? How does Tii'Qi feel about current events regarding the Federation?

Best Tech in The Spur? [Open Discussion]
WhatsUpBrotendo replied to Zelmana's topic in Lore Questions
Pre-Glorsh this would have been Skrell for AI. Since then no one has really beat that. Lyrii exists but they're a "fresh" AI that needs to be developed (both ICly through being taught and OOCly by us doing something with them). Bubble is meant to be a highly-sophisticated AI but I'm not too sure off the top of my head if they'd be the "best" currently active AI. -
Hi, thanks for applying. It's been a busy few days so apologies for not getting to this sooner. A thing or two I'd like to point out before I ask questions: Reproductive rights are limited for secondary numericals in the lower end of the band, and it seems odd that a quya with such varying social credit scores between them would exist - especially considering one is only a few points short of entering the tertiary numerical band. The app is quite thorough so I only have one question (for the moment). Has Vilqa considered enlisting in the TCFL so that they'd be protected from deportation by Federation authorities?

After discussing your answers further we believe that some parts of the app should be reviewed. Not voting in the elections and being apathetic towards Skrell refugees seems to contrast with their overall patriotic attitude towards the Federation. Considering that you initially wanted to make the character a 9/10 primary while also making them apathetic politically, it feels like you are overlooking parts of the lore. These are links to wiki pages that contain the bulk of the information on the election and Skrell refugees. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Warbling_:_The_Musical https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Warbling_:_The_Traverse_Strikes_Back https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Starlight_Zone
