    Extend the Nuke

Jackfractal: how often is it that your precious Chefs/Bartenders/other civilians are the people talking over the operatives when you have one making demands? How many times do we have people doing absolutely /nothing/ while the nuke teams are storming the station? You could work to defuse a situation before it starts, or even help out security by keeping loudmouthed idiots from making the mercs bomb you in the first team. Let's not forget that Mercenaries get yelled at if they detonate nukes willy-nilly. To the point where certain players have been antaggedbanned for it. How often in the last month has the crew utterly given up even contesting a malf AI, sec/engineering and all? Simply /allowing/ their livlihood and only means home to go up in smoke? Why can't a chef in delta go for a borg getting attacked by a mob? Why can't they pull bodies away to get them to medica/safe areas? Aurora needs the normal, average player to step up a little. You can point fingers at people like delta and I and call us powergamers have you. It may even be true to an extent. But sitting and choosing to do /nothinng/ is just as bad if not worse than playing to your capability. Especially in a gamemode with an obvious or revealed antagonist. If a few people need to die because they turned tail and fled to the easy way out: so be it.
  2. So that justifies allowing him to permit his workplace to be utterly destroyed? That gives him permission to Completely forgoe his role as Head of security when he had the entire station in his favort?. That justifies, essentially, allowing him to give up and denying players who want a chance to fight back to try and oppose the antagonist player? This sort of bahavior is endemic to every single one of Xander's characters. He does not, as command staff, lead. He doesn't rally the crew or do anyt hing but outright raun away on every single one of his characters that Ilve seen. Why? Why should this be permitted? Saving your own skin is good, but command staff owe it to the server as part of their primary role to organize and oppose antagonist action. That does not neccesarily mean going out to the fron and gunning things down, but taking every excuse he can to cut and run on all of his command characters is disgusting. These are people who have spent at minimum five years, and sometimes upwards of a decade working for the company. Upright giving up all of it for, essentially, nothing.

But isn't that a good thing? I mean that non-sarcastically. I'd think it would be a good thing for people to spread sensitive information because it's interesting. Ultimately all it serves to do is keep people from sharing information and keeping non-command in the loop. Which is bad overall as it leads to more early CTs.

That's really /NOT/ true. Let's see -Medical: Supporting the core breach. Healing/cloning engineers. -Chemistry: Oh god thermite -Genetics: Hulk/Pressure res. Smash down walls. This is a time when you can cut loose. -Science: Bombs, Drills, Telescience, Printing guns -Robotics: Resetting borgs, fixing broken unsynced borgs, building a second AI to aid in fighting against the first. -Xenobiology: EMP cores, if you have them. -Cargo: Guns, guns guns. Equipment. Trollies. Backup engineers (most of them have construction). Welding masks. EQUIPMENT -Mining: Drills, Ripleys, mesons... these guys are deadly dangerous -Botany, Barkeep, Chef: Backup medics and moving the wounded away, mostly. They can also carry melee weapons if needed. -Assisstants: Most have some basic construction or similar. Or can shoot a gun. Or both. -Janitor: Cleaning up after the whole shebang. The only thing STOPPING you from getting involved is your unwillingness to do so. it is not necessary for you to break character to help out another department in a support role. People are ignoring nuclear threats. This needs to stop. It's becoming a stupid-level problem.
  6. QFT no seriously. Stop calling ERT for engineering emergencies when I have a competent team fixing said emergency. It's getting old.

BYOND Key:Jamini (This is your Byond Login/Ckey) Player Byond Key: Xanderdox (This is the Byond Login/Ckey of the player you are complaining) Staff involved:Ahelped to no response (This is if the complaint was ahelped and if it was handled by a staff member) Reason for complaint: RPing a "malfunctioning loyalty implant", failure to respond to roundtype. (State your reason for your complaint) Approximate Date/Time: 10:01PM EST This was during a stealthmalf round. https://www.dropbox.com/s/z0xgmdimhgv1orp/Runaway.htm?dl=0 Essentially Xander, as head of security, opted to evacuate instead of make even the slightest attempt to to resist an AI in mode Delta (Which still, in malf, has explicit orders from central command to disable it) when there was upwards of 400 seconds on the timer. The crew compliment was extremely full, and there were at least two non-permaed engineers, several medics, and a multitude of officers and other staff available to respond to the threat. First, the issue of a malfunctioning loyalty implant. Why the hell would such a thing be acceptable at all in a non-antagonist head of security? They might as well not exist. How exactly is this good RP? Lorewise, the station (your livelihood, as well as the ONLY WAY BACK TO ODIN) is gone if the station goes boom. You will not get rescued, and frankly that AI already showed that is was going to attempt to kill staff (and was doing so on the outpost up until it blew up the station.) I, personally, do not believe this is at all good command /or/ security play on Xander's part. He chose to run from a situation where he by all rights should have stood the line, ultimately made the round worse for others around him. Edit: I will also add, he had the following resources at his disposal. -At least one active engineer, and the corpse of the CE with all equipment -Two paramedics, in hardsuits, fully kitted out -Multiple lethals-armed officers -Multiple other staff around the central ring. -A full medbay of support staff

Okay, seriously. This is ridiculous. Every possible nuclear threat is /ignored/ by security, or civilian staff. When a nuke is expected, or a malf AI happens, everyone runs to the outpost /every/ time. This isn't healthy for the game, and evacuating when you really shouldn't as a non-antag is stupid beyond belief. Doubly so when anyone on the station who is running away is, /essentially/ giving up not only their livelihood. But also stranding themselves to slowly starve to death. As an avid supporter of making nuke and malf have more teeth, I suggest that nuclear detonations be extended to include the Tcommsat and outpost.

A few minor personal notes on a few instances brought up here. I was the chief engineer in question here. To clear up a few things. 1. The AI is joint responsibility between the CE and RD. If it is acting unusual, quirky, or potentially dangerous they are expected to investigate it assuming they have no major objections from command/the captain. 2. You, as you said, were playing a notably unreliable and quirky AI. To the point where the captain/command as a whole were growing concerned. When you messaged the "Hard fault" line over public communications, regardless of your OOC intentions, there was a request to look Kunai over command. I did indeed bring the subject up to command, and they agreed it would be wise to check you as a precaution. 3. Like any potentially subverted, malfunctioning, or dangerous AI. Your integrity was checked. As you had left your turrets off and your core open a law check was performed as well while Nasir was checking for any physical access to your core while he was there. 4. You were not an antag (and I knew that OOCly before going in. Frakly, I don't /use/ the main upload if Nasir has any reason to suspect he is going to get shot by the GGNORE turrets.). That is simply how one checks up on AI's that may have problems. I had full intention of putting you back once I was done checking things over well enough to satisfy the rest of command. To be really frank. If you want to play a questionable or slightly quirky character/AI/borg that is perfectly fine. But do not complain when command bring such things into question. You in particular have little ground to stand on as Kunai, as it routinely checks employment records against the NT finances document and other such things. If you report a fault, you should expect someone to at the very least check up on you. (Had you not went SSD, Nasir probably would have politely asked to card you to check on your laws.) I do apologize for that. I was also the one that caught your messages accidentally. Unfortunately, "Terrorist Collaboration" is pretty much textbook what you did. I can't speak for how security treated you, but I did have them detain your engineer on those grounds and did have enough evidence to back up the claims. I was quite frustrated and surprised when I found out that both engineers I was working with were helping the Quartermaster (His ploy was interesting, but considering he was trying to frame a non-existant miner... nobody was really buying his story.) I will admit I was a little hurt when I found out that my warning to the rest of the engineering team resulted in a compromised security response. Since when people do that it does tend to weaken my own stance ... well towards this topic exactly. It's harder to justify keeping your own department in the loop when one or more members within it start giving out information security generally doesn't give out. I do feel security hunting for valid briggings and kills is a little excessive. I've had some interesting stories of my own (Such as, as a wizard, having /all/ of security trying to kill/detain me with tasers out when I'm doing nothing more than Magic Missiling them for trying to tase me in the first place) I'm also not saying I am perfect (though I do try, daily, to improve my own play in all aspects). As a whole, we need to step back on both sides of the spectrum. Crew need to give antags more breathing room and suspension of disbelief, and antags need to be willing to give the crew a chance to play along or surrender. Both sides need to de-escalate if anything is to be done. If I may, one of my favorite moments on Aurora. In one of my first rounds on Aurora, I was playing as Atweeke in science. It was dead hour. I was alone, getting used to your new toys. While I'm working, Old Red(Hawkins <3) runs up with a revolver. He targets me and orders me to the ground. As an unarmed civilian, I complied. I kept my mouth shut, as Edwin didn't want to die. Old Red ties me up with some cable, takes my headset and ID+PDA, and tosses me in toxins. Giving a short damn apology. He then steals some research and leaves. After uncuffing myself, I end up breaking the windows to toxins to get to an intercomm. And call out for help from the AI and security. My compliance not only saved my life, but it gave Old Red a good 10-15 minutes or so head start on sec. I miss those days, sometimes. Perhaps both sides of the equation need to step back and try to bring that back a little? Peace.

After he carded Murphy and checked he witnessed the following: http://imgur.com/Fze7sBp He and Raymond GAlloway were injured attempting to repair the station intelligence. Considering the implications of this law, he belives it would be wise to conduct an immediate investigation into Dr. Iseman Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: Nasir Khayyam (CE), Jonathon Rase (DO) Additional notes: Murphy was reset and the upload damage restored.
  11. Wouldn't it be prudent to split this into three complaints? As far as I know each of these characters are involved in different incidents and played by separate players.
  12. Many DO's have head of staff whitelist already/separately. I'm not sure of many/any that wouldn't have access to the forum.
  13. Any injury can cause an infection. Though I wouldn't object if a rusty bear trap drastically upped the germ level of a wound to make infections more likely.
  14. My issue isn't DO's not punishing for an issue. My issue with not knowing directives and regulations is when they punish or dicipline someone for something that is not actually against a directive or regulation. I.E. Making things up. DO's hold more IC (and OOC) power on the server than command staff or normal staff. With that power comes more responsibility to be accurate and correct when investigating and making judgement calls.
  15. I'll happily drop this then. Unless the administration wants to pursue. Just uh, in the future could you try other options first? The ERT, as I am constantly reminded by other command players, DOES respond to medical and engineering emergencies (...even when we don't need it). They were a viable option here. That's really all I ask myself unless Baka, Doom, or anyone else have anything else to add?
  16. One reason being that Corvus was his character on TG, the one he played when he built the original TG atmospherics (Which was later taken by Baystation, and was on ours up until I redid atmospherics from the ground up.)
  17. Xander. No DO or other notice for Jawdat has been posted. While individuals are certainly welcome to rp as they wish from experiance with Jawdat. Those who haven't had any experiance with him have /not/ received any official statements as such. We have forums for that information. That is why we use it. Distrusting someone in command is not and should not be default practice without a very good precedent from the character in question. It is meta to assume Jawdat is untrustworthy without being given reason to belive so ICly. In fact, the very fact that he is a tajaran should make him appear to be Bmore/ trustworthy. You do not get into an officially trusted position as a minority without either havig very good connections, being exceptional at you job, or both.

  19. I don't object to alarms on jumpsuits and visual indicators that cells are about to open. So the concept is fine I suppose. I'd like to see how you developed it. My main objection is just to communal brigs. In my experience they work poorly or not at all.
  20. The whole system still seems like a ton of extra work, and totally unfeasible for smaller crimes. The communal brig, no matter HOW you cut it, only works if two things are true. 1. You only brig for major offenses. -This means you use FINES and WARNINGS for low-grade vandalism, hooliganism, and the like. 5minute sentences need to not be a thing for communal brigs to work. Hell, even a 10 minute sentence is ridiculously short for communal brigs. Basically, anything under 20 minutes needs to completely be thrown out the window. 2. You have a warden who is 150% competent. -Managing multiple prisoners who WILL be consistently fighting both each other and you, including permabrigged prisoners (who will constantly try and escape), all while handling the processing in and out of other lower-grade criminals is extremely taxing. To the point where it is several STORIES of difficulty above having a proper cell system. Really, communal brigs do not work. I've seen them in action, I've talked to people who have seen them in action in other servers. Ultimately, they are a failed concept. We should really just throw out the idea completely and focus on what we know works in this instance. No matter how many gagets or gizmos you add to try and make the failed concept work, in the end of the day it is just not an idea that works well or at all.
  21. So, it's fairly universal that RnD is uh... well. Crap. It's been crap for a while, with not a whole ton of useful designs and a terrible interface to boot. Now, I'm not a huge fan of doing massive NanoUI code, especially for a console so rediculously complex, but I wonder if many people would object to a little quality of life buff? Yes, that is sorting for the protolathe. This, in addition to a few extra designs (mostly focused around engineering, as they have a general lack of useful tools to get from RnD) is what I am currently working on. What do you say, Aurora?
  22. You were not paying very close attention. We pretty explicitly stated we had "chased off" the Unathi ship. Hell, the person who did the bombings actually died. We then offered, repeatedly, to give you assistance for money (Which Vira had outright /told/ you that we were playing the part of genuine mercenaries) There were two breaches. One on the bridge, one at the vault. I saw numerous people complain over EVERY communication channel AND in OOC that you left early. OOC In the next round was /filled/ with people decrying Harlowe for the early evacuation. That is also in addition to the fact that the mercenaries outright offered to help AND you could have called an ERT. You were the sole person, on any radio channel, outright calling for a shuttle. Those are just two people I talked too after the round in skype. There were a great number of others who were dissatisfied with how you called the shuttle. The original transmission was from someone impersonating the new Unathi vessal's commander. Zashi was from the "IOV Akira", and had reportedly "Chased the raiders off" He is your goddamn Head of Personal, and Falk was also against evacutating. OOC concerns aside you should be trusting your fellow heads of staff. We outright stated that we had engineers and medical staff to help you. You ignored this and chose to evacuate when you had people offering you assistance in areas where you needed help. That Explicitly included chemistry and engineering. This sort of evacuation and refusal to accept any help simply screams metagaming, because you out of character knew we were operatives.
  23. BYOND Key: Jamini Player Byond Key: Direwolf20 Staff involved: None Reason for complaint: Early Evacuation, Cutting the round short, Metagaming Approximate Date/Time: 6/3/2015 - 10:50pm end Events: Primetime Nuke Round, I was playing as one of the operatives. (Zashi Malik, The Pirate King). Due to Jackboot announcing a bit of Unathi lore, we had decided that we would stage an attack on the NSS Aurora with a pair of bombs, then "chase" off the Unathi as a mercenary squad in order to get in the graces of the crew. One of our member, Honker (Draculabot I belive) detonated a bomb by the bridge and the armory, killed one responding officer, then got launched into space as a radstorm hit. As far as communications go, the cover was successful. The crew had no solid evidence we were posing as the raiders when we offered to "help" the station. However. My objection comes up when the CMO, Harlowe Bennit, decides unilaterally and against the wishes of the HoP and HoS to call the shuttle, multiple times. Completely ignoring the Merc Teams Offer for "help". Essentially ending the round very early for a number of players. Mind, yes, there were limited engineering staff and several areas were vented. However his belligerent evacuation stance and absolute refusal to even consider what all appearances was a genuine offer to help. To the point where we pulled Houssam Jawdat and Meowy's tajara out of a breached area. In the end, due to the sudden evacuation, we simply opted to loot the station and bug out. Still, I do not feel that Harlowe's actions were very much responsive to how the round was playing out. I feel that his actions were mostly driven by meta, ending what could have been an interesting round for all involved in a very boring and sad evacuation.
  24. I can vouch for him, but I'd rather Hawk put up a filled-out application with a bit more meat. This is kinda barebones.
  25. The Millenium Falcon is officialy classified as a corvette. Sammec. It's literally a Corellian Corvette. (And it has a crew compliment of around 10)
