  1. BYOND key: Dekser Discord name/id: Dekser#5511 Borg / AI names: S.M.I (Android) Have you read the Aurora wiki page about the AI?: Yup, twice. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I used to play a lot of AI back before it was whitelisted and before my synthban but since both of those events, I haven't played them for several months, generally out of fear of messing it up again. It was only until recently that I started messing around medical and engineering modules. It's some of the most fun that I've had on Aurora in a damn few months. I'm confident that I wont make the same mistakes that I made back in my shitter days on Aurora. For more of a reason why I want to play AI, I've noticed that since its whitelisting, it has become very rarely played on low to med population, I want to try and boost that pop, especially considering how much influence the AI has on the round and if done right, how little influence can make the round a lot more interesting. Have you received any administrative actions?: A few, my last warning was in late 2021 but the one before that was all the way back in mid 2020. I have only been temporarily server banned once in early 2021. I've gone about 6 months without any notes or warnings. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?: Yes.
  2. Maybe I didn't get my point across well, let me rephrase some things. Look at the Aurora universe, several entire factions dislike or despise synthetics, those that don't still enslave them and have a good portion of their population hold some form of prejudice. Synthetics are not globally liked at all. For an augment like this to be produced and put on the market would already be a little weird. To the point you brought up, I have never met anyone who would want a friend for life. Would you want a synthetic person inside your brain that has the ability to control your brain? I did read what you wrote the first time, I do not see a difference. People are paranoid and a lot don't trust synthetics. Ignoring the very obvious lore implications, this is basically an IC borer. Have you seen the reaction from people when borers control their friends? It's usually not good. Regardless, this was a pretty lacking point on my end as some people do trust synthetics enough to let them do this, so I'll give you that. I obviously didn't mean actual screaming, the concept of having a being talk to you inside your mind 24/7 sounds annoying as all hell. Sure you can ask it to be quiet from time to time but the fact that it's probably listening in on you at every waking moment of your life is a little terrifying. Everyone needs some privacy, nobody wants even their best friends to follow them into the shower. Overall, I see a few issues with the concept, but I'm not entirely against the idea. If a lot of people like it and it's approved, so long as it's a fun addition and people enjoy it, right?
  3. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, it comes with a lot of issues and I don't see how a product like this could even be in demand. Who wants a screaming robot inside their brain with (possibly but unlikely) the ability to literally take over and control your entire brain. Considering how powerful the hate of synthetics is in MOST places.
  4. I want traitors to be more like changelings. Funny EMP effect is part of the deal mentioned by Carver. +1
  5. While I haven't seen them in-game as Command, I have seen them several times as many characters. Nik crafts fun and relatable characters and plays them very well. They know the game mechanics well and I have no doubt in my mind that they'll make an excellent command member. +1
  6. Every time I make a thread, it already exists. 😔
  7. I've encountered 3 players in the past month, one a Vaurca, one a Dionae and the other another Vaurca. All 3 spoke in broken English, had a lot issues with their flavour text and their emotes. I could see this being dropped to 1 year or more but regardless, a lot of changes to species lore have happened and only one of those 3 actually bothered to re-read the lore, all the rest just kept rejoining the following rounds without changing their playstyles or character info.
  8. Sarge is a great roleplayer, someone I've enjoyed interacting with even outside of ss13. I've gotten to know them and love each of their characters, they're constantly concerned about whether their characters are fun or not and care deeply for the experience others have while playing. I think they'll make a great addition to the whitelisted boys and after reading this application, love the backstory. Big +1
  9. I think I'd find interactions with non-Vaurcae the most unique and interesting, their incredibly alien nature and low amount of whitelisted players makes less and less crew see them often. Making them more alien to the crew. I've seen countless interactions between Vaurcae and other species, even been that other species before and had a blast. I'm eager to see if I can try those same interactions from the other side. While I find interactions with xenos the most interesting, I'm also eager to speak to other Vaurcae in-game. The hivenet is a very versatile way of communicating and allows for some very fun roleplay opportunities. As a last and most obvious thing I'm eager to try is, why I created Dilia the way I did. Even though they are a fairly small portion of Vaurcae lore, I really enjoy the concepts of their religions and hope to make characters following each one. Dilia works on contracts, signing to work with a corporation or property where specific religions are preached or where guidance is offered. As for moving to Phoenixport, it wanted to ease into its teachings of others, gradually taking up more and more challenging tasks like larger chapels or more populated areas, after spending some time working freelance between places on Biesel without any specific residence, it happened to be within Pheonixport and settled there for some time. Believing it to be a good start at its career. It was absolutely incorrect in this decision and soon learned this, deciding to leave some time after. It currently lives within Mendell City District 3. Thanks for the heads up! Dilia has great comprehension of racism, xenophobia and hatred of others because of their cultures. It has studied history of most species (mostly humans and vaurca) and accepts that changing ones opinion is difficult. It feels neutral toward the skeptical or otherwise negative opinions held against the Preimminence and almost enjoys the challenge of arguing its validity. Despite it being its job to convert those to the religion or otherwise guide those to find their shapes, Dilia is fairly accepting to those who refuse to find their shape. Believing that is part of the great process of finding yourself and where you fit.
  10. Without a doubt it's a +1 Malcolm Mcgulby is already more of a Command member than some Captains, as a Quartermaster. I've seen him coordinate and manage one of the most known departments for its shittery and inability to be led by anyone other than an angry Captain. I have seen Malcolm as a character, RELALY developed. He has a fully fleshed backstory that is actually difficult to find, opposed to a lot of characters that tell you their entire backstory of about 2 sentences when you just ask their name. His character feels real, a rarity on Aurora and is very capable in the aspect of leading. I really do hope to see Malcolm in a command position, he is a master in legal corporate espionage, without a doubt he would do anything to ride the ladder of promotions. At this point in time, I'd like to see a trial.
  11. BYOND Key: Dekser Character Names: Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: RGB 131, 41, 11 (Ta’Akaix’Zoleth’akeh Zo’ra brood) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: hyezz Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Vaurcae are one of the most alien species on Aurora, their lore alternates from fairly mysterious to beyond the comprehension of other races. Vaurcae are mechanically very diverse and have interesting interactions with other Vaurcae. A notable feature of the species is their confirmation of an afterlife. Should an average Vaurca die, a special implant installed into their body from their time as a larva will be extracted and have their consciousness uploaded into a virtual reality state. There they can theoretically live forever, which I find pretty funny considering their body will probably die in only a couple decades. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Biologically: Vaurcae are a species of insectoid mostly humanoid arthropods bearing sulfer-based blood. Appearing in many forms across different hives, Vaurcae are very diverse in their appearance and biology, each Vaurca of a different brood even having a totally different carapace coloration. By far the most notable thing of Vaurcae is their exigency for phoron, as they require it to breath. The disadvantage of breathing phoron of course being that all other gasses are toxic to the species. Vaurcae have mandibles which do not allow for complex speech, to communicate with one another they possess antennae atop their heads. These antennae can emit and detect pheromones, complex scents let out as messages by other Vaurcae. To speak the language of aliens, a unique albeit often low-quality augment was invented. Allowing Vaurcae to speak many languages. Almost every Vaurcae form is represented by two letters, KA, ZA, RA, TA and type D. KA are the workers and by far the most common form, seen both bipedal and quadrupedal. Workers have three fingered claws with ranging average heights. These forms are also typically fitted with extremely hardened exoskeletons, assisting them in sometimes several days of EVA. Workers are also known for their avoidance of violence. ZA are the warriors of each hive, they appear in forms of a hexapod, quadruped and biped, each named BC, BB and BA respectfully. Warriors, totally opposite to workers, are not passive at all. Making them well suited for combat. Their exoskeletons are also typically less thickened than Workers, allowing only a few hours of EVA. RA being the newest form developed by Vaurcae, only last year. RA can be easily described as industrialistic workers, being much larger at eight to ten feet tall with huge, crowbar-like arms. These forms do not vary at all from their original design and have a distinct look. Known as Bulwark, these forms are defensive fighters, never attacking and only defending themselves and those in their nearby vicinity, escaping when given an option to. TA or Breeders often seen as diplomats of queens are the only fertile of the Vaurca population, aside from the queens themselves. TA are also used to fertilize eggs and even become replacement or new lesser queens should the hive expand to a point of needing such. Type D the strangest of the Vaurcae, biomechanical supercomputers used for calculating huge amounts of data and managing pieces of the Virtual Reality network. These Vaurcae can live for centuries and typically do. Type D are bound and never appear as akaix, despite their immense brain size, they are used only for calculating and are often looked at as machinery rather than beings. These do not include the forms of the lii'dra have, as the full extent of their capabilities is currently unknown. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mechanically: Vaurcae are extremely capable, having natural insulation on their claws, protecting them from shock, with warriors holding huge mandibles able to tear their opponents to shreds (except if you do you'll get fired) and with their hivenet, allowing them to communicate over large distances with some flicks of their antennae. Vaurcae are able to enter total vacuums without issue and space themselves- mechanically forever. Vaurcae require phoron to breath, without it they suffocate fairly quickly, along with this need for phoron comes their inability to heal over time. Instead requiring medical attention to heal their wounds. Their advanced eyes grant them night vision, allowing them to see in almost no-light environments. Because of their sensitive eyes, however, they are sensitive to light and can be rendered blind by only a few flashes. Their very alien nature also makes them less resistant to bacteria appearing around the Orion Spur, taking increased toxin damage. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Culturally: Vaurca culture is very separated yet also the same. Each hive showing slightly different mannerisms. Authority is a very important value in Vaurcesian society, loyalty to ones Hive is instinctual and disloyalty is deemed a defect. A notable feature of Vaurcae I have not yet touched on are the difference between bound and unbound, through intentional planning, a Vaurca can be born 'bound' or 'unbound.' To be bound is to have most of your brain removed, your body augmented and your purpose defined to assist. A bound is essentially equipment to be used by unbound, who are designed for individuality. Unbound are still loyal to their hives but have the same capacity of emotion, intelligence and mind as a Human. Bound are often treated poorly but not discriminated, their purpose to the hive is recognized. Conflict amongst Vaurcae is rare if not entirely unseen unless the two are actively at war. While Vaurcae can banter with one another, combat never occurs in workers. When it does occur in warriors, it usually happens within Virtual Reality, real combat would be a waste to their respective hives. While disputes within reality can be handled, often times on the hivenet, thoughts of other Vaurcae may disturb or frustrate an individual. This can be suppressed but as a last resort, it is possible to have the voices blocked with the assistance of a TA. Death in Vaurcesian society is often not feared as there is promise of the afterlife, however death results in the loss of a body which is a loss for the Hive. For this reason, along with instinctual survival, death is still avoided. In conflict, honor is held close by Vaurcae. Kidnapping an unbound, killing a queen or taking and even destroying neural sockets are all heavily frowned upon by each hive. Xakat’kl’atan is a title given to Vaurcae, typically after death. This title is of immense honor, something akin to a celebrity title. A Vaurca known as Xakat’kl’atan is often used as an advisor to a queen, a teacher to a newborn or training or generally just a figure of great authority. Rarely, this title can be given to living Vaurcae. There are many taboos in Vaurcesian culture, restricting mouth to mouth contact, covering the mandibles, referencing trophallaxis and several other minor notes have their meanings, some of these are tied into Vaurca religions, which are very notable. Hive Pantheon: The belief that their lesser and greater queens are nothing unlike deities, referring to Virtual Reality as a literal paradise. This religion appears in two schools of thought, classical and modern pantheon. The classical pantheon being the appreciation and love of a queen and her ability to perpetuate life. The classical pantheon is less of a religion and more of a biological instinct, in a way. The modern pantheon shares many similarities but is ultimately more systematized, spanning across every hive. Preimminence: The religion of a god or goddess, made up of Vaurcae. This being does not exist in the religion but could exist, should every Vaurca find their shape within the being, the goddess or god would form. This does not only include Vaurcae, however. This is one of the only Vaurcesian religions documented to believe aliens exist, hundreds of thousands of years ago, believing that these aliens too would need to align for such an event as a deities forming to take place. Shapers, similar to a priest of another religion, dedicate their lives to assist others in finding their shape. These Shapers often wear robes and helmets to obscure their hive affiliation, believing it may cause issues when assisting another in finding their shape. Pilot Dream: The theory that existence is but a simulation and the place beyond the simulation, itself, a simulation. The believers attest their evidence as the existence of Cephalons or Type D. Believers of the Pilot Dream set their goal to re-create a simulated, compressed universe to continue the cycle of simulated reality. The Mother Dream is a branched religion of the Pilot Dream, exclusively followed by the K'lax. This belief follows the existence of the aforementioned simulations but with the change that they can advance through these simulations by being efficient and useful to their Hive. Believing that the mother K'lax will allow them to advance forward. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Dilia Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character: Born 2460 to the Zo'ra hive and to Ta’Akaix’Zoleth’akeh's brood on Caprice. During its time in VR training, Dilia paid great attention to the teachings of Xakat’kl’atan ’Iotiex, while also taking interest in various xeno religions and Vaurcesian beliefs. It began to research Preimminence, finding no issue with other religions and instead believing them to be necessary for a xeno to find its shape. It studied great philosophies and ancient documents of Preimminence, believing it no coincidence that the beliefs predictions of aliens existing coming true. When leaving its VR training, Dilia kept a great appreciation for all sapient beings and believes it direly important for all Vaurcae and other xenos find their shapes. This was Dilia's purpose. Augmented and equipped with scent blocking robes, the fairly early to leave VR Vaurca began teaching and shape finding. Dilia had a great appreciation for history, as taught by the Xakat’kl’atan who it followed so greatly. This appreciation of history aligns with its Queens beliefs, this granted Dilia the ability to leave Caprice. Travelling across Tau Ceti to Biesel, Dilia worked toward converting Vaurcae to Preimminence, assisting xenos in finding their passion, their destiny and otherwise teaching of Zo'ra history and normalizing Vaurcae in the aliens society. Dilia showed fairly average income with little failure, converting several Vaurcae and gaining some alien friends. Moving to Phoenixport, Dilia watched its productivity slowly drop over the time of a year stationed there. It seemed the people were too busy involving themselves in corporate politics to care about Dilia's teachings. Dilia began to develop a disdain for Einstein Engines, being quite suddenly directed to employ with Nanotrasen soon after it was directed to leave Phoenixport and move to Mendell City, district 3. It was moved around from station to station, chapels aboard stations, vessels, cities, all sponsored by Nanotrasen. Teaching the aliens and becoming fairly known. When satisfied with how well it had taught some populations, Dilia decided to employ far away from Biesel, start somewhere that needed education, guidance. It employed aboard the NSS Aurora. Describe what you like about this character: While fairly young, leaving VR training early, Dilia is experienced in history, religion and general understanding of xenos. Dilia is a bland character, with little interesting about it, it is aware of this. It knows its purpose is nothing magnificent in Preimminence but is welcoming to its humble purpose of guiding others. How would you rate your role-playing ability?: 8/10 izz good Notes: I couldn't find a nice way to squeeze in that Vaurca eat k'ois and what k'ois is. So. That's here now. EXPECTED QUESTIONS: "What does Dilia think of the RA design theft:" Dilia has little opinion on the theft, more lives are more roles to fill for the Preimminence to be fulfilled. "What are Dilia's opinions on other hives:" Dilia views all sapient beings as pieces of the God to be formed, viewing all Hives as equals. "What are Dilia's opinions on the lii'dra?:" While accepting that they do indeed play a role in the formation of the God, Dilia also believes that it is within the roles of everyone else to exterminate the Lii'dra, as their hostile nature could doom us all. "What is Dilia's favorite food:" Izz vhoron rock candy.
  12. Unathi have always lost 100 of their 120 stamina to break handcuffs, I like to think that is a fair trade considering breaking handcuffs in ten seconds is likely very difficult. But I understand your point, it gives me an idea. I am going to alter handcuff break a bit so that you need to be on harm intent to break, otherwise on help intent you just slip in 2 minutes like everyone else. As @TrainTN said. And the part about industrial IPC's is also loredev approved. I am approaching being finished on the PR, I've been gradually working on it for little bits of time, though there isn't all that much positive feedback, the PR also fixes and polishes cuffbreaking and legcuff breaking. I am going to push it but not open it to reviews, only for further discussion. unless a balancer closes this but i hope not.
  13. Hey guys, Dekser here with another wacky idea. So I've been working on handcuffs the past 4 hours without any prior authorization from balancers and with minimal contact with lore developers. Here's the idea: Species that can break handcuffs in ten seconds must now be on harm intent to do so, otherwise they will just slip them like everyone else. Industrial IPC's (excluding xion) can break handcuffs in 10 seconds, so can Unathi and Vaurca Bulwark. Industrial IPC's: Will take 10 brute damage to each hand, immediately overheat and eat 25% of their battery charge to balance out the OPness of handcuff breaks. non-industrial IPC's(including xion): Will overheat upon slipping from them in 2 minutes, take 10 brute damage to both hands. Unathi: Will have a 20% chance of dislocating one of their hands, 40% chance of taking 10 brute to both, 40% chance of taking brute to an individual hand and another 20% chance of breaking the cuffs without effort and gaining some stamina back. Higher risk, higher reward. Bulwark: Will take ALL of their stamina to cuffbreak, will take 5 brute damage to their hands and suffer no bone dislocation because exoskeleton and big arm Dionae: Will take 10 brute to both hands and have a 1% chance of one of their Nymphs splitting from the Gestalt. Takes the usual 2 minutes. Humans, Tajara, Skrell will ALWAYS dislocate one of their hands to handcuff break, the timer will remain at 2 minutes. This is both for realism and to counter handcuff slip spamming. This is to simulate dislocating a finger for handcuff breaking, considering we don't have finger targetting I went with the hand. I've only worked on a few of these so far, looking for suggestion and/or entirely being shut down by Matt and Alb. EDIT LOG 1: I have been informed that you can already dislocate a limb to quick escape cuffs, never in my year of playing Aurora have I seen that. Wow. Okay. Removes these for now. 2: Unathi odds have been changed for cuffbreak, while likely to take ten brute to one hand or the other, they have a low chance of taking brute to both hands, a low chance of dislocating a limb (close to 20%) and another low chance of breaking the handcuffs without effort, sort of like rolling a nat20, gaining 50 of their 100 lost stamina back.
  14. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Fluff disabilities/disorders Short Description: Adds Unathi disabilities, these include things in relation to claws, scales, frills and horn growth, eyes, albinism clarifications and tail-size changes. All are fluff. How will this be reflected on-station?: Would make for interesting character additions, and explain some things about current characters. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: Not that I know of, the wiki mentions albinism but it doesn't go TOO far into it. Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways that you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team? Yes. Long Description: (Less of a description, more what I have written at the moment.) Minor disorders: Minor disorders are those that affect Unathi in very limited ways, both physically, mentally and culturally. "Lsh'islasulu" sometimes shortened to "Lsh disorder" is a very rare scale disability affecting very few Unathi, the disorder is poorly studied because of its lacking negative affects and extreme rarity. When suffering from Lsh disorder, Unathi will lose their dead scale cells through a painful peeling process, rather than sporadically. A Unathi suffering from the disorder will need to painfully peel their scales off once or twice a month in droves. The disability is caused by increased cell death, scale cells will die rapidly for no apparent reason. Luckily this process only causes pain and increased susceptibility to the cold, not causing any damage or making the scales much weaker in terms of durability. Further information is lacking due to little research preformed. "Kaasilik" is a famously known yet equally rare disorder inflicting unique symptoms. Those suffering from Kaasilik lack any growth of frills, hoods, horns or any other structure on the head or face. While labled a disorder, those affected by it suffer no physical drawbacks and are believed to be the result of a genetic lottery in which generations of couples between Unathi with certain horn or frill growth reproduce. While typically undamaging to the Unathi physically, it can make identifying them from another suffering Kaasil incredibly difficult. Children of these Unathi will likely have very small or limited frill and horn growth, it is unlikely they will suffer the same disorder. Medium disorders: Medium disorders typically affect Unathi in a negative way with few arguable pros and usually a societal impact of some sort. "U'ehas" roughly translated to "Dilated pupil" is a disorder roughly estimated to be affecting 0.5% of all Unathi. U'ehas causes the eye pupil, which is typically always slit, to be dilated into an oval shape, unable to expand or shrink. This causes several issues, preventing the eyes ability to adjust to a different lighting, causing near-sightedness and in extreme cases, even total blindness. The dilation is caused by a issue during embryo development, where the eye pupil for whatever reason develops dilated to adjust to a non-existent lighting change, the eye never un-dilates. This disorder is famously studied as there is little understood on why this happens. Most believing it is caused by a spiritual interaction, Unathi suffering the disorder face little discrimination and some even sympathy or congratulations depending on the culture. "Raek'ssk" translating directly to "Blunted spirit" is an uncommon disability affecting an estimated 4% of Unathi. The disorder completely stops all claw growth on the hands and feet, leaving those affected almost completely defenseless when unarmed. Those who suffer Raek'ssk have the dead keratin cells that would have typically made up the claws, sporadically shed with scales. Leaving behind tiny, blunt stumps at the ends of fingertips. It is believed to be genetic, with the effects occurring roughly once every two generations. Fortunately, in 2460, Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals developed a remedy as an off-shoot of horn gel, it would recreate the claws with calcium rather than keratin. While slightly less durable and unable to grow back, these claws function just as well as keratin in combat. Major disorders: Major disorders affecting Unathi are typically disorders that severely affect them on a physical or societal level. "Albinosm" or Zis'lak, caused by a general lack of pigment in the scales, can appear in two states. Partial albinism and total albinism. Partial albinosm causes the scales appear much brighter and usually have a tint of white, this is because one or two pigments are lacking in the scale color. Total albinism in Unathi makes the scales appear totally white, sometimes with a minor tint of green, red or sand/orange, caused by a total lack of pigment. Albinism in Unathi can also cause a unique shift in eye color, while typical for Unathi to have colors like orange, red or green, albinism can shift the eye color to an unusual violet. This is due to a lack of eye pigment combined with the light refraction off of the blood vessels within the eye. Unathi that suffer from total albinosm usually remain away from sunlight as their sensitive scales provide little to no UV protection and put them at risk of burns. Total albino Unathi are also often seen as a bad omen at birth and as such those within the Hegemony's lower populated areas are often banished from their clan or in extreme circumstances, even labeled Guwan. It should be noted that azure colored Unathi cannot be albino. "Illiz" is a disorder appearing in two states with a wide variety of recorded variation. The disability details highly irregular tail size, this can include tails the size of a finger or tails so long they become a tripping hazard. The former being nicknamed, "Hasik." Unathi affected by Hasik typically suffer when sprinting, their short tails also prevent fat storage, which results in the fat being stored elsewhere like the arms, thighs and lower body. The latter mentioned state of Illiz, nicknamed "Hasil" is the complete opposite. Those affected by Hasil find their tails reaching lengths of up to 6 feet long. Hasil includes similar issues as Hasik, most notably that it also negatively affects balance. Those with longer tails struggle to sprint, carrying the weight of such a large tail. Though as a benefit, it does allow them to consume more food. Culturally, Those suffering Hasik are viewed as pathetic and as cowards, while those with longer tails are viewed honorable and typically a noble. It should be noted that very few nobles have been documented suffering Hasik, while many, using plastic surgery, increase the size of their tails to mimick Hasil. Most of these are un-reviewed by anyone other than myself. Open to suggestion, edits or anything else. EDITS: WHOOPS THERE WAS GUIDELINES I DIDNT READ
  15. never met him but would probably make a good good ok
  16. BYOND Key: Dekser Character Names: Species you are applying to play: Diona Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Diona are the most alien species on Aurora, I've had my eye on them for a while and gone from thinking about making a whitelist, to making one, to rescinding it to remaking it and then deleting it before even posting all out of fear of misunderstanding the mysterious lore. With their most recent lore updates though I feel more confident in my knowledge in them and generally find their mechanics interesting and fun. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Biologically: Diona are a collection of Nymphs, ranging from two or three to upwards of several million. Different types or forms of Diona exist, each ranging with how many Nymphs make up a Gestalt, with the more nymphs making a Gestalt, the more intelligent it becomes. Diona learn unconventionally, typically requiring blood and DNA to gain knowledge and skills. While it is possible for Diona to learn without blood, the process is much much slower and allows them to form rather strange opinions on things. Diona are almost entirely plantlike which means they feed on light and radiation but have some differences, they do not require carbon dioxide to breath and are immune to vacuum level pressure which means they can safely enter and drift through space. Diona can live for a very, very long time. It is estimated that Diona are potentially immortal, if not for their bark growing over them and thickening over hundreds of years. Eventually, it is possible for this bark to entirely encase the Diona and suffocate it of light. Diona have a complex reproduction system, once every ten or so years, a Diona will attempt to return to their place of origin where they release spores to fly through solar winds. This can take the Nymphs to all corners of the galaxy and as such, it is very possible that clusters exist far beyond the Orion Spur. Diona are lastly able to naturally speak a language based on pure instinct, this assists with when they detach a nymph from their Gestalt and send it to explore, keeping contact with it via a very high frequency song, only audible to the Gestalt and its Nymph. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mechanically: Diona are able to split into their several nymphs and explore, being able to play as both the Diona Nymph and the rest of their Gestalt. They also also able to generate biostructures with some biomass they generate from light and from eating, these structures include a light bulb, flooring tiles and walls. Diona are able to consume the near atmosphere in an emergency situation where light or radiation is scarce, though it is rarely done. Diona heal off of radiation and light and die in the dark, which is why their ability to consume the atmosphere can be dire to survival. Disgustingly, Diona can devour objects and even living organisms (WHICH INCLUDES PEOPLE BY THE WAY) to absorb their biomatter for the Gestalts own use. This is scarcely done as almost all Diona follow strict pacifism, only defending themselves when running away is not an option and even then, devouring an organism is not defensive at all. When the mob HP reaches 0, or when a special verb is activated, Diona split their various nymphs from the Gestalt to flee. This process is incredibly painful and costly to the Gestalt, thus it is only ever used in emergencies. Lastly, Diona are incredibly, incredibly slow, with Coeus, the younger types being only slightly faster. Diona are completely unable to sprint and take their time with all things related to movement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Culturally: Diona have several different mindtypes which help dictate their actions. A mindtype is described as how the various Nymphs within a Gestalt communicate, these mindtypes can be Tyrannical, Harmonious, Chaotic to name a few. Each sets its own priorities as actions and can either delay or speed up how fast a Gestalt speaks and thinks. Apart from mindtypes, Diona have adapted to living in all corners of the galaxy due to their reproduction system, very few known celestial bodies have settlements including high populations of exclusively Diona. There is one widely accepted religion of Diona, The Eternal. The religion entails the beliefs that in energy and essence exists a primordial being of which Diona embodiment of. The major goal of Diona who follow this religion is to reach the Titan form, a form so large it is comparable to small celestial bodies like moons or planets. It is believed that growing to this or beyond this point will make the Gestalt so dense that it will collapse in on itself and form a star, releasing light to feed and birth new Diona. Diona have a unique form of art, while they can be traditionally good at painting or photography due to their vast capability for knowledge, their unique artforms, Artem and Vita involves taking various forms, either peacefully in the void of space free of restrictions or on the contrary, to mimick or create new visible forms of life competitively or otherwise. Those who lose the former competitive challenges become absorbed into the victors Gestalt, sharing knowledge and growing as a stronger collective. Character Name: To Survive The Mistreatment of Aliens to Forgive and then to Explore a Vast Galaxy --- Shortned to: To Survive and Explore a Vast Galaxy (The one I use in-game) Please provide a short backstory for this character: Born hundreds of years ago within a reasonably sized gas giant in a small forgettable solar system, this small Colossus of a few hundred Dionae lived peacefully, absorbing radiation and occasional atmosphere. The collective thrived, gradually growing its number of Nymphs without interruption until, a strange alien vessel begin absorbing gasses from the celestial body. The Gestalt drifted toward the machine and latched onto it, growing around it for a few days. Eventually, out of curiosity, the collective agreed to peer inside. Doing this damaged the vessel, a strange arthropod-like being, a Vaurca, investigated and eventually attacked the Gestalt. Likely thinking it was a biohazard, the Gestalt, in an action of only self-defense, absorbed what they could of the Drone. Several other drones arrived soon after and began to open fire on the Gestalt, damaging and eventually splitting it of its once beautiful collective. The many Nymphs scattered into the station, one of which, would survive and escape. This Nymph crawled into a small air-filled tunnel and began consuming the atmosphere around it while scratching around for any source of light. Eventually, coming across a strange humming machine used to power some part of the alien vessel. It produced radiation and so the Nymph hid there for a time. The vessel was cold and dark, the Nymph continued searching for light once enough radiation had satisfied it. Several days, possibly weeks passed before the Nymph located some more of its kind, those weak and suffering. They decided to form a small Cerberus for comfort in numbers. This did not last long, as eventually the collective was found and exterminated, the Nymph barely escaping into another duct. Lost, lonely and now missing some of its own mind, the Nymph returned to the small radioactive room, terrified of and confused by the aliens. Time passed and the Nymph once again returned to the outside of its safe room, it located another Cerberus, though slightly larger than the last it had seen. This new collective happily accepted the Nymph and they began to form a Harmonious Hymn. All agreed under a vote that they had to leave this strange vessel as soon as possible, the collective jumped between various radioactive rooms, sometimes finding light, other times not. Rarely other of their kind. Years passed, tens of years, Nymphs of this gestalt died or split off but two always remained together. These two bonded and despite caring for the many other Nymphs who found and joined them, they would never split apart ever. Barring the occasional death or splitting, the Collective almost always had about three or four within their gestalt Cerberus, When a routine had only just set into regular, however brutal the routine, something happened. A Drone located and began shooting at them. Two Nymphs split away in terror and what was left of the Gestalt, with no other option, fell atop the Drone and killed it with some loose panel on the floor. Horrified at their own actions, all but the two originals of the Gestalt fled, these two Nymphs crawled into the corpse and in an act of desperation, begin to flood it with tendrils and essentially impersonate it. The two with much difficulty returned to the radioactive room, leaving their disguise and absorbing the radiation. They used this disguise for several weeks to tour the vessel and find other nymphs, growing their Gestalt over time and eventually reaching an acceptable six Nymphs. The corpse had begun to rot and was no longer as useful, the collective found and airlock and thought they had found escape but not before being approached by other Drones, wildly flicking their antennae toward the rotting disguise. After a few moments of silence, the other drones raised their weapons and approached, the Nymphs forced the airlock with what little knowledge they had collected of this vessel and its machinery, they flew out into space and quickly split apart from the disguise. The vessel floated away from them. They were free. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time, time had passed, so much time. Nothing was happening, it was dark and cold. The sun was far away though radiation still plenty. The Nymphs had reached a stable orbit around another alien star. The Gestalt had no company but each other, they fought, forgave, hated and loved each other for so long in the abyss they wandered. A loud crash disturbed the Gestalt, they peered through and saw another large alien vessel, though this time, different. They drifted toward it as fast they could, eventually clung to it for all life, rooting into it. It was silent for a few moments and then it was blue and then it was dark. The Gestalt had entered bluespace and exited in far and distant unknown system, they were falling in a fiery blaze, unprepared and burning. The Gestalt crashed into a vast and large desert, all but two of the Nymphs had burned up and died. The original two of the Gestalt were in pain, dying but radiation restored them. Hours of soaking radiation and blistering light from the star, only crawling across the sand weakly to find more radiation, the dying Gestalt struggled to find survival. Approaching eventually what looked like a derelict, rusting and rotting structure, half buried in the sand. The weak Gestalt approached the structure but was stopped by a visible oasis, water, trees, grass just over a dune. Mammalian bat-like creatures fly around it in circles, the Gestalt crawls closer and rests on some grass, absorbing the plantlife before going dormant. The two within the small Gestalt awaken to the pokes and prods of a large Reptillian humanoid, the Gestalt quickly skitters away from the alien, but is calmed and offered a fruit to absorb, the Gestalt cautiously accepts and consumes the small fruit. Taken in by this Unathi and given an amount of blood, the Gestalt learns to speak the hissing language, the Gestalt learns of Unathi culture and basic customs. The two Nymphs understand the symbiotic relationship offered to them and refuse, the two cannot trust aliens, after what happened to them all those many years ago. The Gestalt discreetly raids Unathi crops for born Dionae podlings and merge them into their gestalt, they grow into a mighty amalgamation of a 500 year old Vaurca drone and a wastelander Unathi, absorbing radiation on their own accord and sharing the knowledge of how hostile aliens can be. 2459, December 2nd, they absorb a lost Nymph somewhere in the vast dunes. This nymph is different, sharing fragmented knowledge of caring aliens, protecting it and its gestalt from wild animals. Long is the idea of joining aliens thought on, considered, rejected and then brought again to discussion. It was decided that life in these wastes are almost no different from their years of thriving in the radioactive void, the same. The Gestalt craved excitement, they needed something new. They would join the aliens only to shun Vaurca very audibly and to only use the aliens for new experiences. The Gestalt would make its way to Skalamar, greeting Unathi with open arms and arranging to work for them and absorb radiation. Six months of the same work, the Gestalt was not getting what they wanted, they explained their troubles to the clan leader currently sheltering and providing them radiation. Some negotiation later and the clan leader promised them a flight to a place where Dionae can exist peacefully, somewhere unfortunately quite vibrant with variety in aliens but with a high population of both Diona and Unathi, something the Gestalt was familiar with. They would fly to Tau Ceti. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forever scarred by the actions taken against them by aliens, the Gestalt arrives at the Tau Ceti border, without a citizenship and with no money for a work visa. Without speaking the language, the Gestalt unknowingly signs up to the TCFL and soon employs at a nearby station, as soon as it is understood that the Gestalt us unable to event speak the language, blood is granted and basic information is given on galactic history and current situations within the system. The Gestalt was shaken and confused by all the politics but understand mostly, they decide to name themselves as they realized most aliens had just been calling them by the name dubbed their species. To Survive The Mistreatment of Aliens to Forgive and then to Explore a Vast Galaxy. Otherwise shortened to To Survive and Explore a Vast Galaxy. . Working aboard various vessels, preforming patrols and making friends with some aliens, the Gestalt kept its distrust for Vaurca and often refused to work with them, creating minor issues while out working. One of the Gestalts Nymphs disagreed with the hate toward Vaurca, despite all of the anger and outrage loudly sang toward it by the other nymphs, this one, having been protected by Kataphract Vaurca and Unathi loved both species dearly and called what happened a misunderstanding, this overtime erupted into a re-occurring argument which eventually led toward the mindtype being called into question and eventually changed to somewhere between a Chaotic Cacophony and a Singular Sound, three of the six nymphs disagreeing about opinions on aliens and three acting together to hate Vaurca collectively and ignore all other aliens. A year into their Tau Ceti Foreign Legion service, they were called to respond to a distress signal, the team arrived to a derelict overgrown with Dionae. The TCFL soldiers prepared the Gestalt who was the only active Diona within their unit to attempt to speak out, all questions and greetings were met with incoherent ramblings, this Diona was a Scarlet Score. Suddenly its Nymphs lept down to bite the crew who were forced to open fire. It took twenty minutes to kill almost every Nymph as part of this Gestalt, To Survive and Explore a Vast Galaxy almost all immediately agreed to settle their differences, lest they devolve into something as aggressive and mad as this, horrified by their own actions against another of their kind. Deciding to return to their Harmonious Hymn. The Gestalt applied for a citizenship a year later, with the end of their deployment being fairly unremarkable, they drifted between jobs relating to farming but never landed anything strong. With a desperate need for an income, they signed to work as a Security Cadet, training to work as a Security Officer aboard a NanoTrasen station. Their past time in the TCFL helping them to land the position. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What do you like about this character?: To Survive and Explore a Vast Galaxy is a very scarred collective, they've all experienced some trauma with two of their Nymphs being upwards of 520 years old and their current gestalt around fairly haphazardly placed at 450 years old as there was no definite number recalled. Torn between despising aliens and loving them, they often disagree on concepts relating to Vaurca but try their best to be more civilized. How would you rate your role-playing ability?: 8/10 EXPECTED QUESTIONS: "What religion does To Survive and Explore a Vast Galaxy believe in if any?" - They follow the belief of spirits but not far enough to be th'akh, they are attempting to learn new cultures before deciding anything. "What do they think about other aliens not including Unathi and Vaurca?" - They stand viewing most other species neutrally, though believing that Humans are often greedy. Because of how divided they are on Vaurca though, they attempt to stay away from them to avoid disputes. "How many Nymphs are there now in the Gestalt?" - 8, a standardly filled Cyclops. "How do they feel about synthetics?" - Because of their basic knowledge absorbed on Moghes, they all agree that synthetic beings are soulless equipment, while not upset or opposed to the idea of synthetic freedom, they do not work to ameliorate it.
  17. New sprites unique to Diona that appear when they are gibbed or when they split due to pain critting or the used verb
  18. I entirely agree with this, as a member of command I find a lot of my spare moments being taken by browsing forum news threads, reading wiki pages I've missed or generally just keeping myself up to date lore-wise. I've also seen quite a few Heads of Staff joining these past 2-3 weeks, most having less knowledge and investment to the server, some getting even the most known details confused. I could see this change being lowered to 6 months of total inactivity and still agree.
  19. I often just use this post when my character is on drugs so I know how to react anyway, would be cool if it got added.
  20. As my CE I got into a huge argument with them in a Ling round. Aside from the argument they handled the situation very well and my CE was just trying to push justice and honor into it. Director: "I wield a Doctorate, what do you wield? A wrench?" CE: "I am a Doctor, Doctorate in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, asshole." Director: "You are useless, regardless." CE: "Useless? So you don't like having power?" Based RD, going to make great frenemies. +1
  21. Hi I witnessed 1 one of those killings, in fact was the one who died, specifically the Captain. I don't have any logs on me but I imagine She's will reply with them soon, a brief summary that's more readable than screenshots: I was strolling around as Captains do, checking with departments, seeing how they were faring when over main comms I hear Felix Fleeter yelling, "Captain! SECURITY IS DETAINING ME! HELP!" So I check with security over their channel about any warrants or anyone being detained, no reply, hear Medical say the location of Felix over their comms and walk casually over there to yell at the officer not announcing when they detain someone because I was near there anyway. Walk through the door, a First Responder follows me. The SECOND I see them, they pounce from a body toward me and stunbaton me on harm intent about 10 times, I hit the floor and they drag me into maintenance, by then Security has arrived and begins to shoot at the antagonist who now drags me into an airlock, stands in the exterior door so Sec literally cannot do a thing when they vent us both. I die in about 60 seconds of seeing them, don't even get a "Hi." They then ran out into the asteroid after draining me and just sat behind a corner for 15 minutes writing this complaint. I'm totally fine with what happened, I try not to hold OOC grudges and dying with less roleplay is 50% of command but this is a clear breaking of the rules and She'strying did literally nothing wrong.
  22. Just had them as an antag, it's clear they did care about the quality of round and I can immediately say they know how to roleplay. I loved their character and even though the gimmick was overused it was executed amazingly because of how good their character was. The gimmick didn't last long either but I do hope to see them further. I've also chatted with them OOCly and seen how they think, with all these factors I think they deserve a trial. BIG BOY +1
  23. jrphoenix is an amazing roleplayer and someone I've interacted with a lot, each of their characters brings out a laugh and they're all believable. This characters story and background feels very real and I like the little details, +1 from the local lizard main.
