It's a part of the server history, being one of the biggest persistence-arcs done for the station. It was also the first large scale murder mystery of Aurora. It should be important to at least have small tokens celebrating server history. Everyone involved volunteered their time and effort, and it was a group project. I disagree that they should be actively erased. Aurora is the only server that I'm aware of that has any persistent material consequences of these events that are still visible even years after they've concluded. It's also one of the only lore events that has presence on station. Is it not at all interesting that you can look at a plaque on-server memorializing a game event done years ago, and it's still remembered and has a presence?

Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Culture of Ouerea. Describe this proposal in a single sentence (12 word maximum): Using sports as a way of expressing Ouerean cultural and national identity. How will this be reflected on-station? By the characters it produces. Ouerean characters will have a dynamic with one another for conflict or celebration. Mostly these divisions in lore are ideological in terms of government and economics, or religious. Sports is a huge part of a person's identity if they're into that sort of thing. Team identities for sports has often caused the overthrow of governments by angry fans, so we can't discount it. Does this faction/etc do anything not achieved by what already exists? Not a lot of sports going on in unathilore. Why should this be given to lore developers rather than remain player created lore? It should go on the wiki because it is a large part of the factions' identity, rather than a player made faction. Geeze the maker of this format is asking a lot of questions. Do you understand that if this is submitted, you are signing it away to the lore team, and that it's possible that it will change over time in ways that you may not forsee? Yeah they're cool I like them they can have it Long Description:[ This is a rough draft for the wiki. == Culture and Sports == The origins of the first generation of Ouereans was living side by side with aliens as the homeworld they left behind was consumed in war and nuclear fire. For many Unathi the metaphorical as well as literal severing of ties lead to a very quick cultural drift, sped up by the constant bombardment of human and skrellian mass media. New ways of living and thinking were brought into public consciousness. The second generation of Unathi on Ouerea stopped considering themselves as being from Moghean Clans and began thinking of themselves as Ouereans. This cultural split manifests itself in many different ways, but the biggest and most notable element is the immense importance Ouereans place on sports. Specifically, the '''Grotto Races'''. === Grotto Races === *Ouerea's crust is full of elaborate series of caverns and caves to the point that it's colloquially called a sponge. The races take advantage of this by organizing the competition with five mechanics: *There is a start point, no higher than 1,000ft below ground. *There is a finish line. no lower than 5,000ft below ground. *These two points can be no closer than 400 miles in a straight line. *At least one route between the two points is presumed to exist. The Big One itself is a mixture of a traditional race, a marathon, and a survival challenge. Racers can spend hours or days just navigating the complex web of tunnels and caverns, or end up stuck wildly off course and having to navigate their way back on track. Charioteers often have to juggle the risks and rewards of stopping to rest during particularly long races, knowing that every moment asleep is a moment their enemies get closer to finishing, but that every moment they are exhausted and sleep-deprived means they have a higher risk of making a mistake... There are the formal games sponsored by different Guilds and local governments called the '''Grotto Races''', but the main, planetary championship races are simply referred to breathlessly as '''The Big One''' which always has its start point underneath New Skalamar, the capital city. So where an Ouerean saw their local Grotto Race the other day, they'd also be talking about seeing the Big One in New Skalamar the other day. The sport first started in '''2457''', and has since exploded in popularity. Grotto Races now dominate the planet's entertainment industry, and entire group identities have formed around the two primary teams in the formal Grotto Races: '''The Reds''' and '''The Azures'''. The racers are, in a nod to ancient Moghean customs, called '''Charioteers'''. They use small, specially made hoverpods designed for high speed and maneuverability. Because the size of caverns along the route can vary wildly in size, they are also made to be as compact as physically possible. Often stripped down, with high powered floodlights installed. Other racers would abandon hoverpods in favor of Hoverbikes; little more than steel rods that they grip onto in order to go rocketing down unknown cavern depths with nothing more surrounding them than their own hide. Despite precautions taken with Search and Rescue teams, hideous injuries to the charioteers extremely commonplace, and there are occasional deaths or disappearances of racers. Charioteers take these risks because there were fortunes to be won; championship games have often dolled out as much as 950,000 credits to a championship Charioteer. The Big One features two primary color-themed teams: the Reds and the Azures. Each team has a fanatical following within the cities of Ouerea. They are wildly popular, and wins or losses can often result in spontaneous no-holds barred celebrations breaking out in the major cities, while losses have historically triggered a handful of intense riots. Each team represents the broad divisions still present in Ouerean society, which can help explain the intense furor in their fans. Outside observers often intensely criticize the two teams and their fans as being no different from gangs, but Ouereans push back on this by pointing to the inclusive nature of the fandom, with the Big One drawing in even the local non-unathi residents and citizens. ==== The Reds ==== Red Racers tend to signal old fashioned values. Their champion Charioteers all tend to be male and from the old noble Clans that first settled Ouerea with the colonists. To subvert accusations of bigotry, the Reds in 2460 recruited a single Tajara named '''Ahurhajurhl Al'rha to their team; a former naval pilot and lesser noble from the colony of [[Gakal-Zaa]] he is known for his conventional strategies. Their most famous racers are '''Zar Oz'tiz''', who's flame-decal painted hoverpod is famous for breaking the world record for deepest descent into Ouerea, and '''Ahrei Mo'gunz''', nephew of a Mo'Gunz Guild leader, who disappeared deep underground for four days on a Big One in 2559 only to reappear at the finish line, six days ahead of every other Charioteer. Their fans refer to themselves as Red-Hides, and represent their team with red armbands or other red regalia. Staffs with long red banners tied beneath the spearpoint are also popular to wield, similar to humans waving flags. Their fandom is majority Oueran-Unathi, but any resident who wants to consider themselves part of the conservative side of Ouerea can call themselves Red. ==== The Azures ==== Azures tend to signal the progressive elements of Ouerean society. Their champion Charioteers are a diverse mixture of Unathi, human, skrell, and even a Vaurca and a Tajara. Like the reds, fans express their allegiance with blue armbands or blue regalia in general. Holographic fireworks are their displays of choice in leu of flag-waving. Their most famous Charioteers are '''Kizula Mizala''', a female Charioteer who's famous for her hoverbike and elaborate rituals she uses where shamans cast spells on her hoverbike. '''Miguel Thomas``` is a human who was born on Ouerea and is known for his intense survival regime, taking the 'slow and steady' approach to the Big One games, going without sleep for days at a time. '''Xusuui'Ouqu Tuiru'Koqun''' is a skrell Charioteer who holds six PhD's in geology, tectonics, and xenofauna. He uses these skills to have an almost precognition for routes through the Big One's cavern systems.

Sorry BYOND Key: MarlonPhoenix Discord Username: Dastur Phoenix#9616 Character Name: Rhazakal Rhazajun Item Name: 5 million credits Item Function(s): Purchasing goods and services Item Description: It's 5 million credits Why is your character bringing this item to work?: To buy lunch from cargo without one pizza totally wiping him out, and to provide a lot of RP by giving pizza to other crew members. Maybe even some party supplies. How did your character obtain this item?: He withdrew it from his other bank account that doesn't work on the Aurora. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: It has a value of approximately 5 million credits, and it tells a story of how my character has lived a very frugal life until now. Sprites: already in-game. Additional Comments: thank you for reading my application. -
Hello, i would think it improves rp if i can buy pizza from cargo. But i only have 400 credits in my account. I can buy more pizza and therefore have more rp. Then again i set my wealth to "well off" but only have 700 credits when I spawn in as this vaurca janitor. So this might actually be a bug issue?

A journalists loadout is complete with a press badge, camera, and recorder. Having an extra set would complete the bare minimum. I agree about newscasters being a little underviewed. But ive found people get engaged with 'live reporting' from the entertainment channel. I was actually going to suggest a job guide edit too, soon. I think the spare office works as a great location if we don't want any structural change. The NBT makes a lot of sense for not wanting such things. It doesnt even need tinted windows since its long enough to have interviews in the back be out of sight. It fits thematically too for NT to give a crappy surplus office to a tabloid journalist hack. So i suppose all it needs is an access and name change on the door.
-
Sharing it would be really funny. But i was thinking of the spare office up on the surface, which is what i did. Or splitting the current one in half with a divider.

A slot for an independent journalist as well as a corporate journalist would benefit game rounds. I recently had fun getting to be an indie after spawning as an assistant, and I was in a small feud with the corporate journalist. He called me a fake news tabloid hack because of my refusal to vet my stories with command. It was a lot of fun and the crew got two competing versions of the main event going on at the time with an antag. Anyone can pick up a camera and a hot mic but the titles would validate the second journalist. Journalists entire purpose is to interact with crew, spur engagement with the round, stir up trouble, and keep the crew up to date with current round events. And the rivalry is a fun dynamic. So having 2 would be based and free press-pilled.

.Haydizzle already posted what I'd post and danse deleted everything else, so i retract my original post since i dont have anything meaningful to add

I can attest to the behavior. This individual has been very mean in the past, and I've had to block them on our discord due to the same behavior shown. It's not just diona lore but any decision of lore or development they disagree with they respond to with the same kind of swipes and so-called ironic jokes or thinly veiled hostility, to the point that it seems to be bullying and a violation of rule 1.

I like Colfers rundown. I'd only feel bad if theyre a role exclusively locked to a 6x9 room. But if its a valued addition then there's always a potential future with a bigger holodeck. As a ghost role in how i originally saw it it'd still give some fun for volunteers. And glee when the safeties are disabled. >;)
-
Were pAIs and other ghost roles removed?
-
We have a holodeck with holocrabs, so holopeople make sense. However, the holodeck is a constrained area and not often used. Therefore, A hologram ghostrole should be tethered to our existing holographic projectors in the floor. They'd be able to speak and have minor ability to interact with wireless devices similar to a pAI. If they float too far away from the holopad they fizzle out and have to teleport back. Happyfox and tron got me the idea. They deserve all the credit..... but i get the money.

I think the scifi technology has it make sense. It's using existing technology. Every other city should have some memorable wonder. It'll draw eyes! I agree with alberyk. When i made the map the cities were just dots. Looking back, making vanilla city dots was a waste of potential. Making them super cool is something that is a benefit even if it does need a few backgrounds lightly edited.

I think the scifi technology has it make sense. It's using existing technology. Every other city should have some memorable wonder. It'll draw eyes! I think the benefits outweigh the costs. When youre breathing life into a planet like this you cant avoid changes that affect backstories. Could you forwardt people with characters from the city to voice their thoughts here?

Very cool additions. What lead to the replacement of Democrats and Republicans and offshoots with the 3 new parties? Was it IC or is this a retroactive change? The top of the world seems very interesting. Why not combine both ideas of the original with the replies and make it floating? If you're retooling things already, then what if each city had some wild scifi gimmick to make it stand out from the others? Everything else looks great.

Its not too unusualvto have a country named after one place. Rome, Ottoman Empire, Venice, Jerusalem... It isn't the most accomodating though, so i see people ICly mentioning this desire to rebrand. Itd be cool going either way! Tau Ceti still wouldn't be accomodating to Cetians outside tau ceti.... where does it end?! Lol

I know in the old days cloning was only available to the wealthy. Im not sure when that changed; a lot of VIPs died from then to now with no mention of cloning so i imagined it was retconned already.
-
Is the problem of firefights overtaking RP a problem of cloning or a problem of how player crew are encouraged to tackle antags and how antags are encouraged to tackle crew?
-
It would be pretty chad to bring back cloning. If the primary issues were lore (which can be solved by just picking up the ball and running with it; a setting where assassinations are untenable could be used to show the dystopic forever-ness of the ruling bodies and also encourages alternate means to topple them) And the secondary issue is antags being messed up by cloned security officers then having antags pop clones out as well back at base seems like it would keep everyone going in round until they choose to stop participating, allowing greater player freedom and retention!

These look good.

I don't have the means to do this project again. I'm suggesting that, and more asking if, someone would like to do this again for 2021. It was meant to be a yearly event for staff, but i left. So im suggesting it becomes a yearly affair.
