  1. Only the notes that matter will count against you. I mean to say that there isnt a point where we go "oh this guy has five notes ding dong bannu". We dropped the ball on you for a long time, nowadays you would have been banned a lot quicker. I am not judging you by the cover technokat. I am bringing up concerns and giving you the chance to respond to them. What will do you differently if you where unbanned?
  2. Let me attempt to banish a bit of misinformation here. a note is placed on you any time a staff member speaks with you about an incident and it documents the outcome. Most of the time its "Spoken too about X told not to do X". The thing to take away from this is you are never given a note without it being communicated to you what you did wrong and what you should not do next time. You managed to acrue more notes than anyone really. only a few players have even come close. Cases where a permabanned player actually comes back later down the line to appeal it are pretty rare. Rare enough to deal with each one on a case by case basis. I personally like to investigate a little and while i dont usually care what people get up to on other servers i am interested to know if you have changed or not. Some other staff members have some things to say but they are currently asleep. In the mean time i will gather onions from other staff.
  3. Is that so? I have documentation proving otherwise. https://gyazo.com/8df9d27d44e934fc12d2a949182bef36 That is a screenshot of a note documenting the conversation i had with you on that date. At the time of that note you had racked up twenty eight notes on powergaming, poor sec play, poor antag play, and general unsportsmanlike conduct. The thread linked there was a discussion in the staff only forum. Someone noticed the absurd amount of notes you had and how many chances you had been given and wanted to ban you on the spot. It was decided at the time that a more diplomatic approach should be tried, hence this note here. I made it clear to you in this conversation the magnitude of how hard a time you seem to have following even the most basic server rules. I even gave you all of your notes. I flat out will not accept nor tolerate you claiming that you where never warned or talked to about this. The first sentence in your is seriously disturbing. I do not understand how you can attempt at all to justify or explain away the things you have pulled. I did a little digging on you since you first posted on these forums, you have received major or permanent bans from almost every single server you have gone too. This includes colonial marines, you successfully appealed a permanent ban on march 26th of this year. A particular post from you in this thread here stuck out to me. https://gyazo.com/398e0dedce8a7da0a32b1c864e876811 Do you still believe you where banned for anything less than an egregious and consistent history of severe rule violations? the tone of your appeal here and your enormous history does not lend me much evidence that you have changed. Why should we bother taking such a huge risk in ubanning you when you have consistently caused trouble wherever you go?
  4. So, are there still some things to discuss or should we lock this?
  5. Wonderful, i will lock this thread for the time being because you're supposed to be forum banned.
  6. hello techno. Your absence from this server has not been long enough to where you would forget how to properly appeal a ban. If you would like to create a proper thread in the ban appeals forum i will take a look at it and we can go from their. You are also supposed to be forum banned until the heat death of the universe but considering their is no way to appeal a ban without an account i dont mind if you just do it to appeal. This means no shitposting in other forums.
  7. banter, dont worry. Anyway i am going to be incredibly honest here mirk. You have played here for over two years and in that time you have racked up A LOT of notes, warnings, and temporary bans. While you have never proven yourself an absolute shitter who shouldn't play here you do have a consistent pattern of getting into trouble where the server rules are concerned. How can i trust you to enforce server rules? Why should we take a risk bringing on someone who has such a problem staying out of trouble? I am interested in your response.
  8. Your response to one question does not really sit well with me on a few points. I would like you to clarify if possible. Is their a point that you would order a warden or even another head to release someone from perma? Where would you draw that line?
  9. If you where actually not allowed to disagree with me i would lock this thread and permaban you for daring to have an opinion thats different from my own /s. What i mean to say is having a "dont be a dick" rule has served us well in my opinion. In the future anything is possible, i might be resistant to a change but im not necessarily 100% against it. I am going to assume you are intelligent enough not to take things out of context. I said that during a discussion we once had and i still stand by it. The context that i am sure i explained then is this. If/when a situation arises that is not "technically" against the rules but against the spirit of the game then i can and will take action. You have to understand though that cases like that are exceedingly rare and almost always result in a "what you're doing is not against the rules but its pretty silly because of X". We DO enforce the letter of the rules. the vast majority of cases involve one rule or another being broken. I am sorry but strict enforcement of the letter of the rules, and in fact even the spirit is not something i have ever really been keen on. Maybe "enforce" isnt the right word to use when i say that though. I mean i dont go "welp you broke rule 1, 2 and 3 ding dong bannu. Yes i agree a server with only one rule of "dont be a dick" would be incredibly silly. You at least need to fairly communicate what is and is not against the rules to the players. This is probably the point i disagree the most on. First off even if you had a super amazing rule set that 100% covered every little incident you would still have staff members asking what everyone else thinks. You have to understand that the nature of running a server with a large player count and being heavy roleplay makes for a lot of unique situations. The discussions in msay are usually something like "is this guy being a diphead?" "to what extent is he being a diphead?" "what should we do about him being a diphead"? If we wanted to expand the rules as wide as possible to cover as many situations as possible our rules would be the size of a small novel. The answers to each of those questions can vary based on a lot of factors. Round type, job, player history. Its healthy to ask the opinion of other staff members. I also want to say that while we are pretty far apart on some things we dont necessarily completely disagree. We added a synthetic rule about AIs not being permitted to lawyer their laws. We would sporadically smack any subverted AIs that did their best to resist and validhunt whoever subverted them but after bringing up officially in a staff meeting it was decided the rules should explicitly cover that situation. Funnily enough it was me who brought up wanting to add it. I think their are things to take away from what you're saying but the original warning here is pretty cut and dry and its going to stick.
  10. I will tell you every time that its not how we do things here. you literally told someone that you wished they lost the race to their mothers womb. This situation is extremely black and white and every staff member i asked about this agreed that you both deserved warnings for being huge phalluses to each other. Our server operates with a decent set of rules that do not necessarily cover every situation. A lot of factors go into punishing someone and writing what behavior gets what punishment is impossible. The judgement of the staff member to uphold the spirit of the server rules is, has been and will continue to be far more important. I do not agree that favoritism will ultimately come into play. At least not to a significant degree. In this case juani reckoned you both where being huge douches to each other. He asked the opinion of a few other staff members on discord and they agreed that you both went too far. Staff complaints exist to contest any decision. The rules actually did undergo a revision recently, see here http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=6712
  11. This policy is not meant primarily to solve issues of nuke knowledge and visitor captains. Those are tertiary at best. The primary reason is due to realism. A captain is the most important person aboard the station, this role is objectively a promotion in every way for your character. Coming aboard as another head cheapen all of command roles. The command roles are supposed to be incredibly specialized. You would work your entire life to even have a chance at a respective departments head role. Only the best of the best would have a shot at captain. Captain picard does not suddenly decide he wants to be a head of security for the day. TLDR i think making the captain role more exclusive is healthier for the overall direction of the game. I understand most will not be happy with this change in the short term however.
  12. We do not, and never have operated from the premise that OOC can simply be turned off. OOC is for socializing with fellow community members. It is not about negatively affecting gameplay its about giving people the base amount of respect they deserve. You do not need to be everyone's friend. Byond and other forms of chat gets even more finnicky. In my tenure as a staffmember here only one person has ever managed to get banned for chat outside of the server. Even then they had a history the size of a football field to go with it. Personally i feel if you guys want to sling shit at each other in byond pager then thats your right. However if someone is using other chat programs to harass community members i can and will take action.
  13. what exactly constitutes a rule breach? [23:50:30] b7HWYf OOC: EvilBrage/EvilBrage : Good lord our whitelist standards have dropped [23:50:30] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : and gave you first aid [23:50:37] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : yessir, i'm a bad whitelist player [23:50:40] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : i shoulda executed you :^) [23:50:59] b7HWYf OOC: EvilBrage/EvilBrage : You shouldn't have won the race to the egg in your mother's womb > [23:51:27] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : hey brage [23:51:35] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : next time i'm going to shoot you and not try to ehlp [23:51:37] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : like a good person [23:51:38] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : :^) [23:51:45] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : also, your egg in the womb theory is wrong. [23:51:51] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : numerous sperm weaken the egg [23:51:53] b7HWYf OOC: EvilBrage/EvilBrage : Then I'll just complain on the forums until, you know [23:52:06] b7HWYf OOC: LordRaven001/LordRaven001 : make sure to include the part where i saved your life That. Thats just a small snippet of the conversation. You both went too far and where both warned for it after a complaint. Moderating OOC can be a bit tricky. A lot of times staff can just be tabbed out or playing and not paying attention to OOC. If someone bothers to ahelp about it we can end up playing catch up. I generally do not mind even heated debates in OOC. We dont have an outright ban on politics/religion or other hotbed topics like some servers do. When it gets to the point of direct attacks against someone else then thats where i draw the line.
  14. When a player logs off after doing something silly it usually means they are just here to grief. Unfortunately this means people with bad internet can sometimes get caught in that mix. Ill check with alberyk real quick and if he doesnt have any objections ill go ahead and lift this.
  15. Roleplaying deficiency in any form is exceedingly difficult. The game does not do a good job of helping either, in fact it only makes it harder. The vast majority of jobs are just "click until its done" and rely on the player to fill in the gap. I have always erred on the side of "this is a video game". If we want to get super technical then wiring solars and learning how the outpost works would absolutely not be something you could learn in one shift. Definitely not something you could replicate after having been shown how to do it once. Although i do not necessarily mind it so long as you arent learning entire departments in one shift as an intern. that is something that would take years. that is without swapping from another department too. It also has to make sense and fall within the "believable characters" clause. A cargo tech suddenly deciding to become an engineering intern is a lot more believable than a xenoarcheologist suddenly switching to security.
  16. What vile said, +1. Anyways i asked multiple staff in the staff discord for opinions and have been cleared to lock and archive this. datberry, sircatnip, and serveris all agreed this complaint has been sufficiently defended against. Locking and archiving.
  17. To be fair i did not really start learning a lot about this game until i was accepted as a trial. Mostly by seeing other staff members answer game related questions. I cannot think of any potential app we have looked over for "lack of game knowledge".
  18. a complaint which has been shown to be invalid. Unless you wish to further contest any of the points more? I am not handling it but you're entire argument has either been debunked or is just straight up a non-issue. Then when you discover that nobody is agreeing with your points you decide to bemoan the server climate and chalk it up to a problem with administration as a whole. tsk tsk tsk I will throw this by a few other staff members to be absolutely sure nobody has anything to add.
  19. You are not special and you have already been replaced. You made a complaint, asserted a position and multiple staff have weighed in vindicating my actions. If their are no objections i will assume i am good to lock this in about 24 hours.
  20. all we had was a single sec officer, no command. He was wearing the breacher suit so stuns would be totally ineffective.
  21. A crew member was breaching into my inner core room with lethal weaponry. Their is no magic shield on them just because they are crew at that point.
  22. sure it might be unfair but the game you are playing is basically a "how will i die" simulator. Their are about a billion ways you can die horribly and sometimes nothing you can can prevent it. No its not always going to be fair either. In this case you could have prevented it so i do not feel your further points are valid.
  23. ...Shit, i fat fingered a button and deleted a post of yours. Sorry about that.
  24. You're going to keep shifting blame and arent going to consider at all the mistakes you made here. Your entire premise and points are either flawed or straight up invalid for reasons i have already stated. AI and synthetics also have different parameters for force escalation. You had a weapon set to lethal intent and had breached into my core room, i thus shot you with lethal weaponry. Its really that simple. Do not expect me to go along with you trying to card me.
