[Resolved] Trial Moderator Complaint: Pikl
Garnascus replied to JKJudgeX's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
All of the points you make are pretty good to be honest. You're correct that pikl flopped around a lot. I will chalk that particular strategy up to his inexperience. Its my job to guide him. I really should have caught this entire issue a lot sooner. I spoke with tishinastalker and we both feel that this issue was a kerfuffle limited to IC. It shouldn't even have been given a warning. I am going to expunge the ban from your record. its very clear that their wasn't any ill intent here. -
[Resolved] Using Powers to Metagame - Alberyk
Garnascus replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I have never been approached by another member of staff telling me that they suspect alberyk of metagaming with his staff powers. I invite any of them to do so now if its actually true. Although it seems to me that there is a reasonable explanation here. What say you hive? -
Nobody posts hall of fame apps so, probably not. Discord is in most cases way more convenient.

[Admin & DO] Remove i106: Suspicious Conduct
Garnascus replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Completed Projects
The thing is by the time people ahelp the round has already been adversely affected. only so much we can void and we usually end up just trying to make sure a situation doesn't happen again. If we can stop them from happening in the first place hoorah? -
[Admin & DO] Remove i106: Suspicious Conduct
Garnascus replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Completed Projects
yeah but NOT immediately trying to search someone who looks suspicious is generally in the best interest of the rounds narrative. This point becomes moot though if they are breaking other regulations. That being said i think the proposed alterations are a good idea. I will harass the other admins just to be sure. -

The original week ban from command roles was pretty silly but i think the three day here was valid. Over the past few months you have a few notes which basically boil down to egregious lapses in judgement. This situation is another such incident and one that could have been avoided had you let your security staff deal with him or even used an ion rifle instead. Its overall incredibly bizarre and given your notes and how long you've played here its kind of your responsibility to know the effect of the weapon you're choosing to use. I could understand if you where a new player. you are not a new player. No i do not expect you to know absolutely everything. Our server rules create a contract, a manifesto of the type of behavior we expect of people. When people make bad decisions IC that cause too much of a problem we like to steer them a more appropriate direction. things like "hey maybe its not such a good idea to try to turn the bar into a slime ranch by yourself.... maybe get some help? " You where playing as a command character so the standard of judgement is higher im afraid. -
[Admin & DO] Adjust i107: Misuse of Public Radio Channels
Garnascus replied to Snakebittenn's topic in Archive
I think the threat of abuse of comms is used way more than people are actually arrested? Its not practical in most cases. Not much i can say on this topic that hasnt been covered by FT or shodan. I do think we need this regulation. -
[Admin & DO] Remove i106: Suspicious Conduct
Garnascus replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Completed Projects
Approval on my end. Adminz get in 'ere Does this apply to non-crew such as wizards or ninjas who try to be peaceful? I will be honest, the regulation as it stands is used for metagaming but it also does need to exist. "i know this guy is an antag and he almost certainly has contraband so i will search him for his stuff and then ruin his round" -
This. Although i do not mind if you wear a silly hat you found in a tunnel somewhere.

Lube still slips people do not matter what. But, if we just let water slip people do no matter what, how do you even avoid it now and what is the purpose of space lube if water can do the same thing without much effort? On our code their really isnt a distinction. TG code gives space lube the ability to FLING you if you slip over it. you can make slip and slides with it.

Ever since the running update slippery floors have become pretty much a non-issue. It used to be that if you where "RUNNING" over a wet floor your character would slip and fall down. If you where "WALKING" you would not slip. This is still the case except "WALKING" has now become the old "RUN" and the new "RUN" is now a faster form of movement than was previously achievable. Space lube will slip you regardless. I think slips are hilarious and integral to "CONFLICT ROLEPLAY" The joy of watching people slip past you in the hall and then you point at a wet floor sign... its amazing.

I feel like theres plenty of reasons you could arrest someone being excessively vitriolic already. Especially if its over the radio.

I do not really have a strong opinion here. I wouldn't mind either way. What exactly do we get out of making it legal?

[Denied] Ganondwarf's Unban Appeal.
Garnascus replied to Ganondwarf's topic in Unban Requests Archive
yeah ban is legit and i am afraid you will have to sit on it. Please try to be less hostile in PMs in the future. -

this is just getting silly. I am going to lock this for skull to review when he wakes up. you have all made your points and its just going in circles now. -
you have my agreement on this point WHen i made that comment i didnt know about medicals lower z-level. THAT part is kind of awesome and i admit it does make medical a lot better for me. I still think its top level is too cramped though and we really REALLY need a 2nd working OR.

I have had more people privately PM me about this appeal than all of the rest combined. some of it not so good, a surprising amount of it was good. Staff are equally undecided. Roughly half of them would deny this on the spot with a "go and stay go". My name is on this particular ban so the ultimate decision is my own. i have never agreed with a closed door policy on appeals after a certain limit. I have always believed that people can change. Occasionally this has gotten me into trouble but i think its worth it in the end. I am going to give you another chance.

I will make a decision within 12 hours.

Aurora is a glorious machine. A machine with many parts that all somehow work in tandem to keep this ordered chaos we have going. Do not misunderstand me. I am proud of each and every staff member we have and as head admin myself and shadow are concerned with the admin side of things. To that end we have decided to promote two moderators to the rank of secondary administrator. Any good machine requires an upgrade or at least some repair every now and then. To that end our dev team has made some real progress with our new map. Testing has been happening every weekend for the past few weeks now. While the elevators seem to have a taste for human flesh the test otherwise seem to be going well. There are of course many variables to consider and many more kinks to iron out. With summer upon us along with the spike in player count the future is happening a lot faster than we think. New Admins After much deliberation and council from the other admins we have decided to promote both trickinghatster and Shameonturtles to the rank of secondary administrator. Aurora sometimes asks a lot of our staff but these two have maintained a consistent pattern of activity in the year they have been on staff. The New Map The new map presents us with a lot of challenges and questions to consider as far as administration and development is concerned. It is a much larger station than the exodus and there is a lot more room to hide if you are the type that solemnly swears to be up to no good. We are paying very close attention to how antagonists and security operate. We are willing to increase officer or other slots if it becomes appropriate for balance. the so called "metagame" will likely need quite a while to adjust as the players learn the intricacies of the station but so far it seems most are quite pleased with how the map is playing. The future I have compared aurora to a machine many times in the past. The statement is true enough in a sense that our departments somehow manage to work in tandem for the ultimate goal of you the player. I confess that even as one of two head administrators that i do not fully understand how such a thing Continues to exist. There are days where aurora appears as a frustrating game of whack-a-mole. An issue you did not consider has cropped up and as you move to deal with it two more crop up as a result of your solution. Complaints pile up, tempers flare and moral outrages are behind every door. Do not take me for decrying aurora's doom. I take pride in my position and i believe in this community. I believe in you. Aurora has surmounted every obstacle it has been faced with. I believe the time has long since passed where aurora was just another role play game involving 2d spessman. we have eked out a community here, we have grown relationships, rivalries and friendships alike and through it all have become something much more than the sum of our parts. There will come a day when the last round is played on aurora. When the last captain's announcement is made. When the last scientist is eaten by slimes. When the last chef abducts pun pun. when the last supermatter explodes. When the server ends a round...for good. Our community is one not so easily killed however. The friendships we have nurtured and the connections we have made will last a lifetime. That being said that day is not anytime soon. Our server staff despite all its fault is the most stable it has ever been. our player count has been slowly on the rise for the past year now. Our development has escaped the usual burnout ss13 devs meet. features are actively being worked and many exciting secrets are in the works. I am so proud of what we have achieved here. It is all ultimately pointless if nobody plays or has any fun. There are many challenges yet to face and we as staff certainly have room for improvement. That being said the future is bright indeed.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - Delta/Scheveningen
Garnascus replied to CommanderXor's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I do not agree delta has a measure of aggression or bias that will affect his ability to moderate. I voted for him passing his trial because i trust his judgement. Bias is always a super hard thing to prove. without repeated incidents its only something we can monitor and watch for. -
I am going to have to insist on words. Take your time.
-
keeping things that can be easily abused while punishing said abusers is a policy that has to be handled very carefully. it can create a lot of situations where we have to play catch up and yell at people AFTER the round has already been negatively impacted by someone breaking rules. I think we should just remove the soporific from the borg hyposprays.
-
yeah you had a lot of trouble following the server rules but if you actually read them this time and understand this is a heavy roleplay server then i dont mind lifting this. I will go ahead and give you another chance. dont blow it.
