  1. That's it. Here it is not in edit mode: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3568 But yes, this is the thread I was talking about.
  2. Sadly the issue becomes just like the children's book "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie." We do this, so the community wants more, and more, and more. I'm not saying your idea is wholly bad, and I understand and have a clear picture of what your looking for. I even respect your reasons fully, from a player's point of view. However, I also have to look at it from a larger point of view and weigh pros and cons on all of it. To me the potential cons severely outweigh the pros. I was going to mention something in my first post about trusting staff, but it hit me that many of our users don't trust us, which complies on to Killer's post a bit about someone messing up can take the whole team down, even if it was a mistake. I wish we could be trusted to handle the issues in a way that we deem fit and not be criticized because we didn't perma ban a guy who made a mistake in game.
  3. I've spoken out against transparency before, and it was one of the questions I was asked about in my staff interview (to which it seems my answer was minorly unique). It breeds issues. It creates a community that will abuse a system because they know exactly how the top rated members will react and the like. I've seen much larger communities fall down because of an admin transparency issue, where admins started directly informing the public of changes to the server, policy, and staff team. I caused uproars because the community, while privy to the info, couldn't effect it. "You mean to tell me I don't get a vote on this doucheknocker being promoted to staff? I r4g3 0n u!" Things happening behind the scenes previously in that server's policy seperated staff from regular users by enough that they knew acting out would cause some sort of issue and they'd lose access to a community they enjoyed. It's not about control or power over the player, it's about making sure it doesn't become anymore self-destructive than it already might be. Lady, I appreciate and understand the original argument but I can't, on a personal level, agree with it.
  4. I'd be down for this. I wish I could find the thread, it was mapped out by the user and everything. It looked amazing and the plans for it were immaculate.
  5. Quite often not having one isn't even the fault of the CSI. Have you seen how many times a detective will hold the kit hostage or an officer got a hold of it or something? That's how it goes. Most of sec thinks they are more important that any other sec rank because of their perks. this happens with wardens too, thinking they are de facto HoS's. But that's for another thread.
  6. Not to be a dick, but from the first time I read this thread This thought has stuck out to me. Whitelisting becomes a way to help players have less competition for their favorite role, especially limited/one slot roles. I understand that the rest of your argument has valid concerns but it just feels like we are creating too much limitation. We are on this whitelist bandwagon now and it really does need to stop before someone just suggests a whitelist to join the server. =/ The answer isn't a whitelist, it's education and player assistance. See and AI do something odd or potentially problematic? Jump to the core and LOOC them. Be helpful, especially if you are just observing. This can put immense help on strained staff shoulders, even if you just get them to send an ahelp instead of doing something that will get them in trouble. I played AI early on in my time, it was a blast and is something I still enjoy when I feel like not playing a head of staff or a criminal. I ranted a bit and lost my focus. Sorry if this argument is scattered.
  7. Seconded. I'd probably just wait the shift out in the library then get the fuck home and never go to work again. These guys have it right.
  8. There was a suggestion that moved it down beside the janitorial cloest and took over the medical breakroom, while moving the breakroom to the office's current location. It's a great idea.
  9. I'm against this. The only legit way I feel an entertainer can be pursued would be an assistant doing something with the holodeck theater, which would be amazing.
  10. A good guide to AIs is always important. Things like understanding the laws and any order of importance (which has varied opinions). http://wiki.baystation12.net/Ai#What_the_AI_Has_To_Do <--- The BS12 wiki has this to say and is, currently, the only reference points we have for the AI.
  11. Guys. This thread isn't about titles for everything, just for miners. Lets keep this on topic.
  12. I've tried this before. They just told me to shut up, punched me, and cuffed me to the chairs in their ship.
  13. Don't thank me yet. You're gonna be part of my training. =P Thank me when I'm a good officer.
  14. Isn't that second rock bit part of the code for xenoarcheology?

    Socks!

I don't see how rainbow socks could cause an uproar in a community where half the MDs have their hair dyed a bright neon colour, hanging past their ankles. Have you not read the posts? This is what people are off about. Apparently rainbow and striped socks, let alone socks in general, are here to create some fetish epidemic. This is 99% of the argument against it. I personally don't care about them. Add them or not I'll be fine. But for all the apparently good natured people who just want to wear socks for the style, the only major argument is "But they are sexualized fetish material."
  16. I'm gonna have to get out of my bind and give sec another try with my cadet too. Maybe I can learn to actually be slightly robust, or I'll have to turn to life as a warden or CSI to make up for it. But I can be involved.
  17. I undertand, but at the same time a large portion of the game should be promoting interdepartmental interaction. And to clarify, modern minders don't use handheld drills, they use machinery. ICly this is explainable as NT not wanting to spend money on initial operations and to have Aurora station upgrade themselves. Remember, as a science station every concept we use can be considered part of larger experimentation from the company. Perhaps every other station starts with diamond drills, but aurora starts with pickaxes to experiment with productivity levels versus cost.
  18. Playing devil's advocate here - reports and complaints don't do anything, nor does any other action I can think of. Complaints on the forums go into a special kind of limbo, duty officers seem very fond of just demoting them to cadet for a week or two, and any IC action you want to take can be instantly rebuffed with "lol not canon, stop u metagrudge." -snip- I'd prefer to see an understood increase in the expectation to create quality RP, rather than performing an arrest on a whim without so much as consulting the corporate regulations. These players will often later claim that the event was "non-canon" for the express purpose of preventing punitive action against their character. I'm not sure what hard rule could be created to combat this, since it's late for me and my cognitive functions are beginning to slip, but I'll sleep on it and revisit this, because there's definitely a problem that needs addressing, here. However, I'm firmly convinced that whitelists aren't the answer. For now, though, I'll leave you all with this: Can we provide incentive, positive or negative, for security to do its job properly?

    Socks!

That set of sprites was already loaded into the first page of the thread... That set of sprites is part of the uproar due to the rainbow sets.
  20. I'm starting to see a pattern here. I find it awesome that you have the care to suggest things that, at least in your eyes, improves the server. However, we are not BS12. Our code used them as a base when it got started, so we've generated changes of our own, but so have they. We aren't looking to be a clone of BS12. I have characters with prosthesis, and don't get me wrong because this would be neat, but I can't see this as a possibly important code project. Note that my opinion on the status of our code is not used in any official capacity, simply my personal opinion.
  21. Not just a normal scientist. Every single round I've played the scientists have 1. Gone SSD before making my drill 2. Been the antag so they don't give a fuck. 3. Been fucking about in xenobiology/bombmaking. I didn't say scientists were uncommon. I said that ones that you'd need to get a better tool aren't on every round. Thats a part of the game. There is a need for interdepartmental conversation. Durring dead hour I've seen each department empty at some point or another. Science usually has at least someone, typically in general science or robotics. If you ask nicely I'm sure people would take the few extra minutes to handle helping you. Another thought is asking nay captains, I've noted several of them with a science background opposed to military/sec and the like.
  22. What does science have to do with this? Drills spawn on the station every round, science isn't involved at all. I use them because they can extract amazing amounts of resources with little effort beyond lugging them around. Science is the reason we gather materials. If there is no science then you have to store the materials gained for "future shifts" or something. When science is there they can fabricate super capacity cells and the like pretty quickly, so all you'd have to do is keep them supplied with materials and your golden. That said, I can see why you want the chargers and agree with it, simply because you will mine as a miner, regardless of science being active.
  23. Qwerty ...was given it's name as a pun for old style keyboards due to alliteration of quirky, a trait heavy in it's personality early in it's life. ...Has only 3 digits on each hand and prefers the simpler setup to five digit hands. ...Actively plays the breakout game that displays on it's monitor to prevent a measure of boredom and slow down processing for communication. ...Prefers blue as a color because it was the first thing displayed on it's screen when first powered on. ...Has several shards that routinely get reintegrated for a shared consciousness.
  24. I jumped in as RD late, the command staff gave me very little to work with as far as communication. IT was rather maddening being shut out of much of the actual events, partially in part of the actions of a few science department staff. In then end I simply gave up and went to cryo as there was nothing for me to really partake in and situations caused me to step away from the computer for quite some time.
  25. Not much. Just chillin' in the backroom of a porn store. cool Had to wait for my wife to get out of work. Can't afford gas to travel across town that often.
