The thing here is that not being racist is actually more common in a workplace setting. Most people don't want to lose their jobs. I've argued against The_Furry that the extent of our racism really can be possible and realistic. Now let's argue the other way, how a lot of people react in public places. Largely singular people minorities will become friends with a racist person simply due to repetitive interaction. A firend of mine is VERY racist, but gets along with and joke about with a work "friend" on a regular basis, dispite him being part of the disliked minority. Do they hang out outside of the work setting, fuck no. They'd hate one another. MY friend is a dick who makes racist jokes and comments regularly. So there is a real world precedent of racists who put that hate away while they work. LEts not forget the staggering number of people who simply work against racist encounters. I'm one of such people. I do my very best to judge people by how they are, not what the look like. When I play most of my characters I let that leak into their personality. My heads of staff in particular are nice to all races, even synthetics that can be considered property. There are large variations in racism. While I agree that some people take it too far, I don't think that either of the options Frances has put out are required. We don't have to enforce a distrust or remove it entirely. We should be allowing players to come in, read our lore, and make their own decisions regarding reactions. If they take it overboard ICly, it can be dealt with ICly. If they start hate wars OOC, it will be dealt with by server staff.

Drop the genetics testing paperwork/arrests/etc
Xelnagahunter replied to JKJudgeX's topic in Archive
I've seen paperwork be brought up in a few ways that I dislike. First of all. Ever been to a doctor's office and been given the clipboard to fill out a medical history? how about watching a server write down your order at a resturant? What about taking a stock order for inventory? Seating charts, military dossiers, records of all sort. These are all kept in paper format. What? You may have intended this a a joke, but given the examples I posted you are saying that anyone without 100% digital conversion is a third world country? this statement is simply rude and might easily be considered offensive to some who might live in less fortunate circumstances than other larger nations. My final note here is about this. You can rebel about paperwork OOCly all you want, but as far as I'm concerned it's stricly an IC part of the game. No heads? Well paperwork likely isn't getting done. Do you have a chill captain and no DO's watching over everything? You might be able to get away without paperwork. Do you elect not to have paperwork when it's requested/required that you do? Well I'll file paperwork, to have the paperwork stamped to have the arrest warrant signed so you can go to the brig. -
Here's a simple fact, and one Skull questioned me about during my moderator application interviews. I think we are too lenient and transparent about certain things. Do we, as a server, cater to the community? In every way that we can. Do we do our best to keep a person's personal issues and things they get in trouble for private? I think most of us do. Do other players need to be involved in someone's trouble, say via a ban appeal? Nope. Not one little bit. My moderation background comes from several minecraft servers. One of the best things a server ever did, in my opinion, was to make all threads on a ban appeal section invisible. This way only staff and the thread author could see the posts. This prevented someone's ban from being publicly announced for no good reason. They could appeal and get accepted and pass it off as a long break from the server or something. WE also didn't allow people to post things in reports, player or staff, unless they had VERY relevant input or evidence. I voted for a system where only the author, the person complained against, staff, and maybe dedicated witnesses the author or the accused party selected could view it. I think stuff like that should be the normal everywhere. We are not a governing body. We are server staff. A private establishment made for people to enjoy themselves. If the owner/admin or his chosen staff have issues, they can/will take action in an applicable sense. Forced removal and verbal/written warning included. We don't need other patrons knocking on our doors demanding to know why someone else got bounced or was cut off from the bar. So even with this new rule, we are still far more transparent than I'd like. I doubt my singular opinion will change that either, which I've accepted. Long story short though, I feel that there are many situations where staff can and will change things for the "betterment" of the server in their eyes. In most cases, the people who have issues with it are the kinds of people that are trouble and not wanted around anyways. Really the staff has no obligation to make anyone happy, and that we try as hard as we do in most cases is simply because we enjoy our playerbase and want you to come back, just like any good establishment.

I think the Tajara players need to be treated the same as the other races and I don't even play one. If a person is fucking up a role they are playing badly enough to cause negative influences, then they should have their whitelists stripped. PLaying tajarans wrong? strip. PLaying bad heads? Strip. PLaying retarded and unseemly taj heads? Strip strip. Simple as that. It's more about moderating the lore than it is about altering it or making the system more complicated. You have writers that are in charge of this or that, what about people on the team who are dedicated to simply observing a round or so a day to watch taj players, or giving some lore team members aghost so they can spy on the fly. Also, people are less likely to fuck up when they know they are being moderated. If you see no staff online you are more likely to try and get away with stupid shit, it's human nature. Kinda like speeding when you see no cops. Not everyone will do it, but bad seeds will.

Xelnagahunter replied to Susan's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Central touched the subject and I feel It's one that Furry hasn't grasped the concept of entirely. At this point I'd like to add a disclaimer to my post. I am not a racist, but in this I will be using a field of view including real world racial prejudice and hate. Do you really think that if people hate a race that they won't be hired by major corperations? Think about it, in today's society where so many minorities are hated by white people, does that same logic apply? One of my best friends is a racial bigot. I hate that about him but he has so many other qualities that I love. Moving on, he works for one of the largest national fast food chains in the US. Now it's easy for us to discount his personal opinion and do what laws and corprate regs tell us, don't racially discriminate when hiring new employees. If he decided to at on his racism and management NEVER found out, what would ever get done about it? 9/11 happens. Muslims/middle easterners become the scum of the earth. If walmart went and stopped hiring them it'd be hell to pay. Lawsuit after lawsuit. Does that mena customers and employees have to enjoy working with people they view as terrorists? Are managers supposed to be machines and not have personal views that generates corruption? Fuck no! So employees need to learn to take it up, contact corprate. Even if they are racist, those fuckers are supposed to act like they aren't. In all reality, has Safi EVER produced an IC complaint about the racism she faces? Has she EVER approached a Head of Staff, the Captain, or a Duty Officer about this problem? If not then what the fuck can she have done about it? You can't expect the world to conform to your ideals. I play a captain that is super accepting. He trusts the AI until he has sufficient reason not to. He trusts IPCs. He trusts the xenos to do their jobs. Not everyone will. My mindset is secular to me. It's my playstyle. People, especially when they keep up with lore better than me, play differently. I really like your characters, they are fun and you bring a lot of RP to the rounds you are in. But you really have to understand that the realism you crave, is exactly what you are seeing in game. Your demands and thoughts are utopian. Taj can be hated and still be hired and promoted to head roles that their race is approved for, and yes, you should never see a Taj captain because they are not approved. there's only certain roles each race can cover. -
IPC's, occupation qualifications, skills

I'm quite sure your IPC is free to attend school. Once you are no longer NT property you become a free entity and can apply for citizenship and the like. Sure, organics may look down upon and despise you for "taking over" their world, but who cares? You're a heartless robot, right? -

My IPC, Qwerty, was a station AI for years. It learned a lot by wtaching and sometimes by helping the applicable departments. It Then got approved for an IPC and was deemed to have "paid" for it retroactively. Now Qwerty is a free unit with knowledge of basic construction, some research techniques, and the like. Most of it's construction information came from spending time in a mobile chassis (android). It moved on to download a robotics database and filled it's pre-programed knowledge centers. It's on;y remaining file space is for recorded memory. Qwerty is now a reasearch director who specializes in robotics and R&D. I Don't let him think about touching anything biological, he simply doesn't know enough and has no real interest in learning that skill set. It's all about being a good RPer and limiting yourself. -

Another major thing to recall now is that Shells can have MMIs. This means IPCs are authorized to be human/taj/unathi/skrell inside a machine. I think you should have both whitelists for this, but that's not my call. But with that said emotions can come from an IPC pretty quickly.

You can't expect people to just censor something themselves. You can change the channel for a commercial, but you might miss the show you want to see if you don't get back in time. These people want to be active in the OOC and it's up to us to be sure that topics don't become overly offensive to everyone. I discuss politics and religion with people in real life, when it gets heated I change the subject or simply tell them I'm done conversing about something that's upsetting anyone. When OOC gets heated here everyone starts pissing on one another because it's anonymous and no one cares about hurting anyone's feelings. So what do moderators and administrators do? We moderate and administrate. It's really that simple. I stand behind Doom's actions, not because he's the headmin, but because it's what I'd have done.

I generally take it to mean that the organizations exist, but they have yet to act outright to NT. Each round is supposed to be a "first contact" with said antag, Aurora being the first station ever targeted by them. It allows those groups to RP on the forums and the like.

The big thing here is context of the IPC character and a player's willingness to stick to an HRP environment. I was the RD as Qwerty a day or two ago and durring a ling round I was abmushed. He got into my office, grew blades, and started being threatening. I didn't fight as Qwerty is not a combatant. His programing was not violent and his experiences have not taught him to fight. He did, remain calm and inform command staff while tossing his PDA and ID smoothly into disposals to try and prevent the ling from escaping. The result was Qwerty's legs being removed while the ling used disposals to escape, leading to his capture with the awaiting sec officers who were recovering my ID. Those combat perks are really only viable for IPCs in combat positions, otherwise they should be avoiding the conflict.

First RP Experiences/First SS13 Servers
Xelnagahunter replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in Off Topic Discussion
As far as RPing goes, I didn't really play any RPing games like this in the past. There was a text based free-form chat I used back in the day for some RPing, but it was largely different from what you'd expect in a game like this. Then I was playing D&D, still do. It's still not the same. It was actually durring a game where I met MonkeysFist and he told me about SS13. I was intrigued and he figured Aurora would be a good server to learn on due to the Heavy RP tag. He didn't want me getting my ass kicked in 5 seconds I assume. After getting in trouble over my name my boring self just kinda fell into the crowd. I've not played much on other servers as I got too used to our custom code and dislike learning different systems in the same platform. Boring story is boring. -

This change is nice and I fully support shoving the medbay break room into the psych office's former location. The medical team already ahs HUGE concessions in that break room anyways as everyone else has to pay for extra drinks, or at least walk to the kitchen/bar area. I'm constantly wanting the Psych role played more so I can send people there as a head of staff. It just makes sense. I can't see any negative impact from this. (Just add that camera)
