I seem to fall into agreement with the stance that removing cloning from a small subject of people won't change the way things are handled in any positive manner and might actually be a negative thing. The key point here being that the suggestion is to remove it from a small grouping. First of all, medical isn't mentioned, which is a field that should make enough money for insurance to cover cloning. So you litterally just removed 1/5th of the playerbase from cloning. That's it. 5 our of 25 people can't be cloned. Makes no sense to reduce those numbers so minimally. Now, making only Heads cloneable makes more sense in that manner, as someone said. It makes the maximum of cloneable people per round 6, regardless of how full the server is. This even comes with a cost of reducing the Genetics to the rare cloning and a job nobody likes to see done for some reason. All in all I agree with the idea that NT would put complementary cloning in the contract, even if its just for study related reasons. People can also deny being cloned. "Do Not Clone" is possible to be written into your medical, security, and employment records.

I am completely for this idea. It's useful in many ways and very worth while.

I've just watched several of this guy's videos and he's very well informed and educated. I like his arguments. -

The jobs are a reflection of what NanoTrasen would hire an individual for. This job is not something that would appear on a sanely written manifest and sounds like a self-antag excuse. Simply put, the company would not employ someone in a position like this.

I'd like some of my characters done, but I'm no good at any of this stuff. On top of being too lazy to look up every trope out there to get on top of it all. Besides, I feel I'd be biased in my own opinions. I'd be honored if someone decided to toss some thoughts my character's way and I'd likely accept them so long as they weren't too far fetched. (In case you don't know: Xel and Vel Carin, Qwerty, Eric Derringer, M.A.I., S.A.I., P.A.I..)

Still can't get it to update to the current version, so the wiki can't help me learn to play. I'm tired of trying. Anyone wanna find some time to help me figure it out?

This is the answer I was really looking for. I'll keep this in mind in the future when seeing things used in-game. Thank you. -
Staff Complaint: Xelnagahunter
Xelnagahunter replied to LordFowl's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Appreciate that you halted your activity during the course of the round and brought the issue up in a different format later. I respect, fully, your ability to disagree with my ruling and if I am told otherwise, then sure you may resume the use of such terminology for whatever purposes you like. I'd like to point out that no warning was given and I didn't even go out of my way to create a note on the topic, I simply made a request for the cessation of a particular activity, I didn't even threaten moderation action. Lastly, my decision was backed, and partially spurred on by fellow staff. I will admit to coming across crass and short durring the conversation because I was running short on time before I needed to leave my house, and I apologize for that. I'm not sure this really deserved a staff complaint being written, but I'll leave that decision to a third party. If there's anything else I need to comment on, please let me know. Otherwise I'll keep my personal opinions free from further posts. -
Blizzard's Whitelist Application - Head of Staff
Xelnagahunter replied to Blizzard's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Heads of staff are restricted by race and CMO is one of only three positions a Diona can hold. It would be unfair to restrict a whitelist app for an arguably "poor" race choice. In fact this app is well written and articulated. There is also the fact that a CMO or any other head of staff really should be in a leadership role, delegating to the lower ranks and only filling in where their department lacks, or taking on SUPER important tasks. I expect a general surgeon to do their job, but I expect a CMO to step in and operate on Heads of staff to ensure that perfection is met. I think Diona are some of the best characters I've seen, most of them being selfless to a fault. I think the articulation this person possesses, and from what bit I've seen of echos, warrents a chance. If their CMO diona creates issues, IC reports and DO actions can remove that character from the head position. Another note, the sample character here never even has to be used, this is simply so that the people who make the choice can determine the applicant's ability to create a well rounded character. -
Note that my opinions on the matter are expressly that. In fact, I'm not sure why I'm being overly vocal in the case of a backstory that really doesn't mater since I'd not know it ICly. For the sake of simplicity, I'm done replying after this. I'd like to make one final notice that the OOC questions were still not answered with more than a sentence saying "all of this is IC not OOC" and then go about my merry way. I wish you luck and hope you'll do well if accepted.

Since traitor isn't cannon the reasons for being a traitor are justified as anything you want them to be in that round, even if you want to call it a slip up in background screening. Everyday interactions should be believable and I just can't believe that NT would allow a person with that reputation in as a head of staff. Regular crew, maybe, but no one important.

While having a mess of varied ideas doesn't make development easier, can't this thread be seen as a collection of minor changes under a unified theme? Basically a suggestion for a "rehaul" of botany? He was refering to Furry's comment about the radio channels when there is already a thread open discussing that.

I'm down for this. I really like the idea of giving robotics the ability to remotely use a ripley to mine some minerals for science.
-
A huge thing for me is that the robotics team can easily make everything withing the first 30 minutes, provided a fast research team or a solid cargo team. This means there is a lot of downtime afterwards where they are waiting for robots to want repairs or upgrades or people with injured prosthetics and the like. Making robotics take a bit longer provides that extra boost. As far a resources, robotics should use a lot and should be something people want to get stocked up. Want a mech? Stock robotics. Want a cyborg? Stock robotics. Want to make a friend? Stock robotics. Then it comes down to things being ordered. Robotics currently makes mechs because they are bored, not because the mech is needed/wanted. IF they have other things to do, there won't be 12 ripleys on station anymore.

I couldn't get it to properly load. I hate software.

I will admit to skimming your application and bypassing the back story. Now that I've read it I'm conflicted. I understand your points, but you also have to look at how corperations now work compared to the laws of the in-game universe. People are HEAVILY screened, and in a world where media is already important I can only imagine how much more it effect it will have in the future. Those rallies would be caught on camera and NT officials would scour it. your character would surely be found at some point, automatically removing NT's interest in making him a Head of Staff. Loyalty implants are only for IAA, HoS, and Captain roles. I'm not saying that makes it a solid no, but it's something to think about. Final point here, even after understanding my last post, you didn't seem to find any OOC implications, which is something we are surely worried about, or at least I am. (Not that I make the decisions so don't let that discourage you.)

Being able to see the numbers I can't tell you the amount of times secret has won a vote with a single voter over extended. It's always like 12 Extended/13 secret. Not literally always, but it happens a lot.

I'm looking it up right meow.

You lag out a bit Xander? However, even if it's not measurable in game, it's still great to have lore wise.

Seriously though, It's like the only place without them...

It's starting to get pretty ridiculous that borg players can't wait for posibrain and end up in a good position anymore. Robotics is so different here form what the bay wiki uses that it hurts new people. and then there are the demented ones. It's easier to make an IPC now than it is to make a cyborg, it's simply one less part/step. This breaks immersion as well as it's usefulness, IPCs are supposed to be expensive and the like, so it makes zero sense that robotics can "accidentally" pump one out and throw a positronic in it. As it stands new roboticists make this mistake a lot and then you have a new crew member who isn't registered to have an IPC. Then you have the crazy people who throw IPCs together on purpose just to give cyborg players a sense of "freedom" against the player's wishes. I believe that ICly the creation of an IPC should not be taken lightly. IT should require forms upon forms and super permissions from the important people. It should then be made separate enough from the cyborg process that creating and IPC not happen by mistake. These characters are whitelisted, allowing any ghost to be one kind of breaks that point. This came across kind of ranty, but I don't have the time to smooth it out right now. But I'm open to further elaboration and of course, to discuss why I'm right/wrong with people.

The point about the OOC aspects of the whitelist are to see what you think of a whitelisted player, not their individual characters. As a person holding a whitelist for head of staff, what do you think your out of character tone should be? What about when confronted with someone who doesn't know how to play? Maybe a person who hasn't learned a simple mechanic? What about involving OOC conflicts regarding your characters? What sort of actions and responsibilities do you think players who obtain a whitelist should be held to? Essentially this is the team discerning how you will react to our community with this grant of extra IC power. Or at least that's my take on it. I'm not one of the major deciding factors, and I'm frankly surprised that I managed to get a whitelist myself. Just to be sure it's clear, my answer is not official on the topic.
