Eric Derringer's Grandfather's Watch
Xelnagahunter replied to Xelnagahunter's topic in Completed Items
Attachable to reduce used pockets would be nice, but it's not required. I'd like the flavor text for it to note it old age while still looking prestine and perhaps when it's used to check the time the player using it can see a code sequence (alpha numerical or just numerical) on the inside of the lid along with the time display. I'd be so happy if you could do that for me. -

There is a sprite already done. I just need code, which would be a watch and some descriptive text. That's all. -
Fire and Glory applies for Unathi
Xelnagahunter replied to Fire and Glory's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Ok. Major point in case. I'm not reading this app. It's too much for me as I don't want to spend all day on the forums. Now, regarding the Unathi Species and Fire. Without checking for contradictions or poor lore usage, Fire is a DAMN good player with whom I've enjoyed many rounds of fun. CAC is perhaps one of my favorite pAI units and even more so as a roboticist. I think Fire, who has done a great deal to understand the synthetics that he plays, likely knows the lore for the Unathi well. So I am supporting this application with great enthusiasm! -
YouJustGotOwened's Skrell Application
Xelnagahunter replied to Owen's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I certainly vouch for Vittelia. Owen has displayed a great apptitude for roleplay in my several interactions with him with various characters. I think he has the mindset to play something like the skrell and to do it justice. I support this and I wish you luck Owen. -
Anything mass produced can be pre-programed easily. They create a base code, and replicate it into every machine coming off that assembly line. When something is programmed individually, I imagine the baseline intellect is created and takes up most of the coding space/time. Line models tend towards being less "intelligent" anyways while the individual projects have a higher intellect due to being so unique. however I think a unit, if it can understand logic and reasoning, can be taught simply, in a way organics can't. It won't need to practice or see several examples of the same thing. You tell it what numbers are and how to represent them. LEts say when doing math a unit is taught how to understand numbers with an apple visual, then it gets taught that adding is combining those numbers. Forever more, no matter how large the numbers, it will visualize apples and simply do the math. It needs no further instruction on adding. The same applies to everything else. When we assemble a PA, we do this, this, and this, because Blah. They now know that they do these things and why they do it. They never need further instruction. Simple as that.

We have luxury facilities for personnel that do things like entering Cryo shift after shift after shift and don't go home or leave the station untill they have a larger block of time off. They need a way to survive and have worth while breaks. The bombs part is a solid portion of the "research" part of the station and the singularity engine is supposed to be a proven and reliable source of energy that should have no reason to break out if worked on my trained engineers. Hrm. Doesn't that sound an awful lot like typical sci-fi we find these days? In space, have luxry locations, potentially deadly engine reactors that could destroy small planets but 3 trained men make it work? Yup. We don't anticipate large scale emergency need. Besides, it's already been pointed out that there is a secondary operating area.

Personally, I think that given that multiple character can and should be different, that whitelists should only apply to a single character, rather than grandfathering in every character that they make. I didn't apply for this for multiple characters; I applied for this as part of Jim's character development. I respect their viewpoints and their opinions greatly, and I do admit that I was confused by the process. Thank you for informing me of this, however this is solely for Jim's development as a character. The issue is that gating each character slot is a lot of work, something they already do with custom items I think. It's easier to be blanket. In all it's up to YOU to decide who is Head material or not. I play a Tajaran Quarter Master who is NOT head of staff material, despite being highly supportive of NT and Human interests. I have an Engineer who should never be a CE due to the fact that I suck at engineering as a player. The character you are giving in your application is an "example". It proves that you can make a well rounded character that isn't out of the ballpark. You never even have to use said character, this is also true for race apps. Hell, my head app was for Derrigner, I'd never played him until after my app was set to processing. So I agree that you deserve a head app, Calhoun or not. If you cause too much trouble the DO staff can demote Calhoun alone while you retain the whitelist given proper IRs.

Seon-rin Von Illdenberg what do you think of her.
Xelnagahunter replied to MetaphysicalPersona's topic in Character Stories
Alright. This is where your thoughts are skewed, along with this from Melkior : Starting With Melkior's thoughts, you are plain wrong. Lab assistants are novice at all things, perhaps amateur at one thing. They should be given the simplest of tasks and/or walked through litterally everything. They represent people in the earliest stages of their college major who are using a job to help practice the fields they have chosen to learn. To even think about Lab Assistants this way is more in line: they are larbor. "I need a tool" or "carry this stack of papers for me" should be the normal for them. But on to the real point of this thread. Meta, your comparison is flawed. The high education standards are for jobs that require it. "Dad taught me genetics" is well and good. Get a degree that proves it. Your dad may have thought you 50 year out dated techniques. Maybe he was a wash out. Perhaps your dad knew nothing and your lieing. NT has no way of knowing that unless you have a slip of paper from someone authorized to say "They know their shit!" I can flip burgers for days. Hell yeah! Doesn't mean I have the know how and skill to open a store and sell the burgers for a proper profit without going broke, even if the whole shebang was already paid for, I'd lose money and wash out without a proper degree or training that should take time to learn and years of practice to master. Real time comparison. I wanna work as a web designer. Ok, that's cool. I learned it from youtube. I can make a website for myself. I go to a company to work for them. "So, it says on your application you can do this. Where did you go to school? Who, besides you, says you can?" I'd be denied it I said "YouTube." Lets say, by some miracle the boss is a turd and hires me. Then someone has an issue with their service and tosses you a technical term, oops, they didn't cover the term on the video. Perhaps they used a different name for it than the common one? Long story short, schooling is required for things because corporate wants the proof. -
I've seen Jim a few times and I've seen Jim take control of a situation when there was none. The only bad time I've seen with this is people not wanting to follow his orders. So I'm for this. +1 On a different note. Due to how head whitelists work, I'd like to point out that these people are not giving you a -1. As a player, I'm sure they support you and give you a +1, just not your character. Head whitelists are blanket, once you have it any character can log in as any head roll.

Seon-rin Von Illdenberg what do you think of her.
Xelnagahunter replied to MetaphysicalPersona's topic in Character Stories
I agree with Delta here. The character doesn't need to be killed off or taken off station just yet. She needs to operate within expected standards. Fix up records to a realistic level. You graduate highschool at 18 and begin college. Seon can easily have a 2 year degree and begin working for a four year and have genetics skillsets. In the mean time, perhaps she did odd jobs in retail/serving/cooking that help her qualify for some civilian positions, such as cargo and cook. Maybe she takes a martial arts hobby, this would make her "trained" at most in melee. The reason it really is pushing it to call her trained and impossible to call her professional is that she's likely had little time to practice it outside of a controled environment, whereas a soldier would have. Rather than making her capable of lots of things on a minor level, focus on a few things. Make her 20-21 with a 2 year degree and still in college and working a paid internship with NT's science division. When you are ready to do more, age her some more and out her in a specialized field, perhaps with a 4 to 8 year degree. Just think about what a human can do, reliably, in a given time frame and age period. NT also has standards, you have to be such and such age for blah role. It's the minimum for people doing school at regular rates, finishing school faster doesn't lift NT age gates. -
My Captain lives on Earth. However, he has a "luxury" apartment (read:cheap room) on the Odin. When he has sufficient time between shifts he goes home. Otherwise he just sits on the Odin.

I've spoken on this before and seen replies that lead me to think that bluespace is expensive enough that only the elite own private blusespace vehicles, but is common enough that a it equates to paying bus fare for travel. So it's cheap, fast, and widely used. I may be wrong but that's me thoughts.

Um. One of the Tomb Raider games. Don't care which. You're awesome, by the way. <3

Bran232's Head of Security whitelist application
Xelnagahunter replied to Bran232's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
As shadow said. Much of this application seems short. Many responses ask for a paragraph and recived a sentence or two. The character background wants something more detailed and asked for two paragraphs and got two sentences instead. -
BYOND Key: Xelnagahutner Character Names: Eric Derringer, Qwerty, Vel Carin, Xel Carin, Harrit Traft, Atyos Tonim, Craig Landerson. Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Just today, yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: The race itself is interesting due to it's unique styles. The recent lore revamp creates something solid I can work with, without being super restrictive. I also want to diversify my character list, which has five humans crammed in with only two xenos, and I'm not overly interested in the Unathi or Skrell. To me it's about the quality and that's what I'm looking for with this whitelist, perhaps not even fleshing out my first actual character until I can evolve a hatchling diona nymph. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The general uncertainty of the race creates large felxibility. Yes, humans are flexible as a race but Dionae are widespread and ancient with no really strongly cohesive back story. This means I'm able to make whatever I want so long as it fits withing the known physiological and psychological features of the race. Their ability to learn new things very quickly is also something of a fun situation, and something I can RP well with the speed at which I learn new mechanics in SS13. Character Name:Born from Space Dirt ((I've always wanted to name my Diona literally "Verb to Noun" as a joke.)) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Born from Space Dirt is a newly grown Nymph born on the NSS Aurora. It's growth cycle was rapid however and it quickly merged with other new Nymphs from the station and became the dominant neurological piece, only mildly absorbing the personalities and traits of it's siblings. As a working Dionae they took to botany with their "parent" and learned to help as a basic station assistant in the civilian sector. As time rolled(rolls) along, engineering became a place where their skills were sure to be very useful, as such they took to an apprenticeship, where the fast paced learning of their working form could excel and propel them to a full engineer quickly. Their favored activity on station is setting up the singularity due to time in space and time near the radioactive singularity. What do you like about this character? I like their curious nature and youthful innocence. I also love that they will be very close to someone aboard the station by default once they are grown, though I can't theorize that the character will turn out precisely as predicted. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd go with a simple 5 or 6 / 10. I'm not great, but I can hold my own and make things enjoyable for those around me. Notes:

I'm your new DO! Fear me and my power to fire things! Nah, just kidding I'm a softie at heart.
-
All DOs are CCIA, Central Command Internal Affairs. I would assume that the Odin itself has a typical IAA and heads of staff as normal, but DOs and other CC staff are an interior branch that controls both the Odin and all stations attached to the Odin as their CC. At least that's how I imagine it. DOs can fire people simply because they are highly trained and probably hand selected from IAAs and heads of staff from various stations. They are strictly controlled regulated by the corporation to ensure that issues regarding their decisions won't cause widespread repercussions. Simple as that.

Eric Derringer's Grandfather's Watch
Xelnagahunter replied to Xelnagahunter's topic in Completed Items
Part of my plans with it include using the antag boards. The typical use is as a story peice for Eric's back story, a simple piece of his history in a well preserved watch. The sequence of numbers within are destined to be either correctly or falsly identified as a military code from 2140 something. Itll be a possible target when not ussed for its story purposes. -

Eric Derringer's Grandfather's Watch
Xelnagahunter replied to Xelnagahunter's topic in Completed Items
Your application has seen serious talk and discussion regarding it. Not a single person, admin/coder or otherwise, has had jack shit to say about mine. I'm not going to waste my time trying to come up with unique shit for my characters if I can't even get looked at and/or told that my idea is feasable, sucks, or I should burn in hell for suggesting it. Meanwhile people actually respond to other people's items. I know I support Graphite's custom chassis, I'm on the front page of your application. -

Guess this isn't happening. I give up on it. -
As someone who has been captured by the nuke ops previously, if you make it so they can easily toss someone in a cell then go back out to the station and mostly forget about them, I'll be furious. I used moments where the op couldn't see me to attempt escaping because trying to talk only landed me a punch in the face, even offering to help them in exchange for freedom. If they can toss me in a small room ALL rp goes out the window. Yeah, they can have a hostage situation, but the hostage gets nothing out of it, they might as well have been killed so they can start a respawn timer. I think the shuttle is fine, mostly.
-
Chances are I'll be having a hard time getting online for a while. I have major issues coming up and I don't even know if I'll have a home in the upcoming months. My activity will be next to null for an unforeseeable amount of time. I know I'm a new DO but I have to take care of me before the server and I hope I can come back to my position and get right back into it. You guys have fun and keep on being spess mens and womens.

I'm down for the subtle message idea, but it has to be done in one of two ways. A)there is no way to tell the difference from the ray or admin induced message and you don't HAVE to follow it but you can if you chose to. B)You MUST follow the message, but it declares that it's mind control and not simply an SM from admins.
