  1. It looks great! I'm going to log in shortly and get that screencap
  2. There were other options that were not quite as dangerous. Making small scale explosives to quickly breech a wall is an option, as is simply getting an engineer with an RCD to tear a wall down. Options exist.
  3. I'm down to help if you still need it.
  4. I'm more excited about this for other people than I am for me. I like my IPC the way he is. Posibrain, and metal body. The only thing Qwerty might do is rainbow paint itself cause it's funny. But I've seen so many people that would love this added benefit. Keep working strong.
  5. So I went against my better judgment and made an app yesterday. I feared I'd see what I am now, and I'm sure I'm going to continue to see it. I'm already near 30 views and not a soul seems interested in posting commentary. I always find these neutral spaces where no one cares enough or knows enough to +1 or -1 my stuff. If anyone wants to do me a solid they can visit the application and give me feedback. I don't care if it's here, there, or in a private message. I'd like to know how well I did and what I might need to work on. I'm always striving to improve and it's hard to do so when people just look at me like I'm some kind of idiot. I get that at work already, since people won't tell me how to do things properly, I don't want it here too.
  6. Go figure this happens on my only two days off. So the only time I had to spend 4 or 5 rounds in a single day is fucked. How do you people setup the automatic checking things that try to join every 5 mins? I'd love to learn to be more tech savvy.
  7. The trailer already shows racist inclinations, since foxes and rabbits don't get along. Maybe it's so bad they don't cross breed.
  8. I don't currently. I can get one when the server comes back up. But it is a pretty damn dark blue. someone at one point told me I was purple, but I know that to be wrong.
  9. BYOND key: Xelnagahunter Character names: Xel Carin, Vel Carin, Qwerty, (I am creating one for this application) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Two to three months. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I tend to play after a work shift and during those late night hours there are never many heads of staff, particularly a Head of Personnel. I'd like to help round out those roles during that time to help everyone have more fun. Why did you come to Aurora?: I was escorted here when a friend was showing me to play the game. I've never played a legit round on any other server as what I've seen from them, I dislike. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I could define roleplay as per the term, but I feel this is more for what it is to me personally, so here goes. I use roleplay as an escape. It's a chance to be something you aren't for a bit and to interact with others who enjoy something similar to you. Some people use books or art, I use video games and role playing. Role playing should be about the story, the collected narrative of all persons involved. It's a way for everyone to have fun and for creative writing to be expressed in a way that allows people to enjoy reading everything they can see. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To ensure that their departments are able to have fun without breaking the immersion of the role play. Each head of staff has it's department and denying everything or even accepting everything can hinder the fun of some people involved in that department. They should be prime examples of staying in character as well, not allowing outside influences or personal relation ships effect what their characters perceive. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I'm not 100% sure on this part, but I have a clear view of the kind of person I want to be as a whitelisted player. A whitelisted player should always set a positive example, they were chosen and people look up to them for it. They should be helpful and courteous. I plan to show restraint where it is advised, action where it is needed, and to be ready to help someone figure something out, even if I don't know anything about it myself. This is not to say I will perfectly be able to help everyone, but I'd like to do my best. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Eric Derringer Character age:42 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Derringer grew up on Bissel, living a hard life without much to his name. His parents were killed at an early age and he didn't take to foster care very well. He spent much of his time in an orphanage, one where the operators cared litle for the children and more for the money. Bullies were in charge there and Eric was quick to sort them out when he arrived. He always to to helping the smaller kids not get pushed around. When he was old enough to leave he went straight into looking for work with local authorities. He quickly landed an internship and using credit from that boosted his way into academy. After a many years serving as an officer of the law, the last few seeing him in charge of a station himself, he retired from the line of work. Corperations were the thing now and more people targeted them for hot zones than governing bodies. HE signed up with NT and joined the security force there, making a name for himself across several stations as a kind heart with a mean sense of justice. His no nonsense attitude, but willingness to help out, landed him a job as HoS. Now in his 40's, a few years past his time spent as HoS, he's requested a change. He feels that his injuries on the job have reduced his effectiveness for it. He'd like to help the civilian personnel more at this stage in his life and recently requested a change to HoP, a change that comes with reassignment to Odin in Bissel Space and with workloads on the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character?: He has a strong sense of right and wrong and understands how to properly follow orders, both in word and spirit. He is kind and fair, but that extends to all parties equally. If being fair means someone doesn't get their way, then so be it. What do you dislike about this character?: I'm going to re-interpret this as "what are his flaws". If I didn't like the character the way I built him, he'd be different. Moving on though, he's sometimes too nice. HE also understands rank and role and follows it with perfection, which is a flaw because he might be less likely to take charge in an emergency, deferring to others who know what they are doing easily. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's intelligent, hard working, kind, and capable. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say I am average. I'm still learning much of the lore behind everything so I don't know tons of things, and I have been known to type slow (which hinders RPing with fast typers sometimes), but I feel I can hold my own. Extra notes: I'm trying very hard to learn as much as I can as fast as I can. I know I've not been here long but I feel I can play the role based on what I've learned by reading, asking on the forums, and by working closely with other HoP characters and the Captain.
  10. Eric's personality is pretty clear from his past and the like. So you can see where it goes from there. Moral choices are always a conundrum, but he will chose whichever does the greater good while sacraficing the lease of his soul while he can. Derringer will always step into harm's way to defend someone, even if he knows his odds of survival are slim.
  11. If it matters, Eric is more the combat side of paladin than any sort of magic. I always avoided spells unless they were buffs or something I could use to interrogate someone without comiting evil (aka torture.)
  12. In general it seems like a simple rule of "non-escalation". Don't use excessive force is what it means. If a person is cooperating, don't fucking flash and cuff them for no reason. If the culprit is attacking, use the smallest amount of force required to apprehend the perp. If a perp is on a mass killing spree and shooting first is the ONLY VIABLE OPTION, use it. Most of the time you can use ranged non-lethals. You aren't real cops. Access to lethal equipment isn't easier to obtain than to their less-than-lethal counterparts. You don't have both a gun and a taser, you have a stun baton, and maybe a flashbang for when situations are really bad or have large quantities of perps. Non-escalation is common sense and can solve all of these issues. Everyone keeps throwing out the term play-to-win. The way I see it, doing things in an unsafe and unprofessional manner is playing to win. Doing it by regs and while following sop and orders, is always legit, even if you do win. (Sending someone through disposals is not safe and should be against some corprate policy, thus powergaming or playing-to-win.) Working as a team to storm the facility with non-lethals designed to capture your perpatrating group, is just tactically sound and GREAT teamwork. It's also fun for all sec officers involved. The perps also get a chance to set up ambush points and the like. Want to infiltrate? Go through a wall, it's simple enough to break them down. Use cameras to find unguarded areas for a point of entry. And don't forget that an officer watching the cameras is still being helpful, even if they don't get to robust some cultists.
  13. Thanks for the replies Skull this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm gonna be looking at your tips thread here soon. Though I won't lie and tell you this thread was solely about getting the questions answered. I'm trying to make my name mildly known, so people don't just skip over my app because they don't know who I am. As much as I know a good app can get you across as well, having the people who can and will vouch for you is good too. Especially when the application process isn't my strong suit. I'm staffed many game servers and my applications are always short and to the point, like a resume. Thus the paragraphs required by the applications here slow me down and intimidate me.
  14. Another note. I'm no good with forum features, don't hate on my shit editing. Thanks.
  15. I'd like the opportunity to whitelist at some point as I frequently play at odd hours where we have maybe two heads of staff. But I don't want to dive head first into the shallow end, especially with only having played for a couple months. What I'm interested in is Head of Personnel, but any head besides CMO and HoS are things I /CAN/ do. (I just can't rememebr medical stuff and I haven't figured out how to be robust.) To give some perspective on my abilities, again these apply mainly to HoP, here's what I know. Much of this is from the BayStation Wiki, which loosely applies to us, but other info comes from playing as an executive assistant: The job puts you in a leadership role where you have authority over a section of the crew, or all if you are the captain. HoP, according to the wiki, is the de facto captain during normal operation. (This I'm hesitant to believe.) HoP is directly in charge of all civilian jobs, including Cargo, mining, cook, bartender, and janitor. Assistants are also in the civilian section of the manifest, so I assume HoP asserts direct control over them as well. HoP is authorized to use the ID computer to alter jobs and access. Paperwork or, at the barest minimum, express permission from all heads of staff involved in department changes, must be completed and signed by authorized persons for changes. HoP /SHOULD/ be trying to encourage an even flow of crew across every department. This should include asking members of a department to consider changing departments for a shift to help make up for lack of personnel. This always includes denying access to a department if that department is already overstaffed. What I want to know is: What am I missing? Is there anything else I should learn before trying to apply? Are there any tips from current whitelisted players to help me be a better player for a head of staff, both IC and OOC. (My characters are Xel Carin, Vel Carin, and Qwerty for reference.) Is there anything explicitly wrong in the things that I "know." You guys would be doing me such a favor by helping out. I want to be able to help round out those late night rounds with Heads of Staff and I feel I could be helpful to the server community as a whole with characters in those roles.

    IAAs

I don't have the backing to prove or make any calls obviously, but IA has a job to do. It's to ensure that things on the station are going as they should. They don't really rank as command staff, but they have authority given to them by CC to do various things, such as start up an investigation against a department or individual so long as it is not obstructive to emergency responses. Want to investigate engineering? Cool. go for it. Oh wait, is there a hole in the station? You should let them get that fixed up. Is there constant atmos and power alarms? Let them handle it. Essentially They should have their powers during any period of normal operation. At a time of abnormal operation they should not interfere with any department who needs to be responding to the abnormal conditions. I'm aware that this usually makes Science and Civilian the only ones who can be questioned during abnormal operation but discresion is needed. There are also many times where I feel some departments step in where they aren't needed simply because local authorities in the real world do. "Oh, tree fell on the road? Let's get 30 officers redirecting traffic." Or "So this place is potentially dangerous, we need to set up a station to prevent people from entering." Some of these aren't needed of Security, the departments involved should be allowed to handle their own thing until the need Sec. For a breech, engineers should be able to tell people not to enter the area. If people try to enter it, then they can call sec to detain the person for their own safety. The same for medbay. Meaning Sec should be able to be investigated at all times where military action isn't needed. I know I de-railed a bit, but I think I got my point across. I'd also like to reiterate that this is strictly my opinion on the matter.
  17. I'm pulling from a thread that's a week or two old an can be found here. From everything I've read and seen, the warden does NOT have an elevated position. They are the same rank as a common officer with altered job descriptions. The warden's job is to watch over detained crew and to ensure they are properly cared for and released when their time is up. Essentially the warden is in charge of whatever goes on in the brig on the same level as a sec officer, whose job is to patrol and detain crew who are causing issues. Basically, once a prisoner enters processing and the officer has given the warden the full story and charges and evidence, the warden brigs and sets their timer. This does NOT give them the authority to set the "additional penalties" for the detainee. That power should only lie with command staff, primarily the HoS, or if he's absent the Captain. Other command staff might be capable of input so long as neither of the primary positions are on station at the time and a judgement is needed, in which case command should be contacted and those additional penalties pardoned if CC calls for it. Do I have the general gist of this?
  18. As a DnD player I have a lot of options to lay out. But my favorite is a paladin that I played for a very long time, even recreating him in other styles. Eric Derringer, a tall, fit man. IN his youth his hair was black and his eyes a steely grey, though in his age his eyes have whitened and his hair has greyed. (feel free to use him at any age of course.) HIs body is scar riddled due to his countless battles with evil and chaos. His weapon of choice is a long, hand and a half sword wielded in a single hand typically. He also tends to carry a heavy metal shield about as his primary defense. Sir Derringer is left handed. Eric was born to a poor family in the worst parts of a great city. Sickness was widespread and at a young age the boy was orphaned. Before their deaths his parents tried to teach the boy of life and love. He learned to be kind, brave, and to know the difference between being fearless and being able to stand against your fears. The years following his parents death were hard, for he refused foster care and moved on to live as an urchin. Many orphan boys would group together to survive and often have a larger boy leading them. Eric was too young to be one of the large kids and was surely stuck following the orders of bullies. The group had a trick you see, they would crawl under the floorboards of taverns and shops and collect coins that fell through, often making just enough for the leaders to tax it all. Those bully leaders would buy some scrap food for the lot and eat well themselves on the coins taxed from the destitute young and the unfortunate small. Derringer learned quickly how to keep a few coins to himself and vowed not to spend them on useless things, so unless he was buying additional food for a particularly malnourished boy, Eric's money was saved. At the age of ten Eric had finally saved enough in his years. He purchased a sword. It was a small thing and the boy could hardly carry it properly, but it did it's job. He lead a revolution against the bullies that lead the orphans and with his sword in hand quickly ran the scared teens off. HE took to leadership, maintaining that each person work, but allowing them to keep their own share. Often using his own money to settle honest disputes. The young man was learning to discern lies well was fooled very infrequently by people cheating his system. Punishments were harsh, but not harmful. Simply being told to leave a particular neighborhood at the tip of a sword. By the age of 15 Eric was noticed by the city guard. He was quickly recruited as a squire to one of the ranking members of the watch, demanding only that the boys be left to their own devices in the street. He relinquished his blade to the boy he trusted most, a young boy of 11, and left. His new station taught him to dress in armor, to properly carry and wield a sword, and even some basic swordplay. within a year a major gang assaulted the guards and quickly overpowered them. The 16 year old Derringer sprang into action without hesitation, fighting alongside his liege, saving him more than once from sneaky attacks by the thugs. For his valiant performance we was adopted into the watch fully, no longer a boy, but a man. Four years passed before a tragedy occurred, demonic beings attacked. Bent on destroying everything. Derringer was quick to respond. He organized frightened men and encouraged them to stand up against their fears. The bolstered watchmen took the fight back to the hoard and pushed it away, causing survivors to fell in all directions. His activities, and the fall of the watch's commander during the struggle, saw the 20 year old promoted to lead, the youngest in hundreds of years to do so. His time as a commander was short, within six months the boy found a calling. An adventuring paladin came through and Derringer chatted with the man at a tavern. Awe struck by the man's word he went on to church where he deigned to be a priest. The temple was under siege by monsters when the man arrived and his valiant efforts spurred the monks of the church to offer Derringer a different path, that of the holy warrior. Thus I made a first level paladin. =P During his travels many things happened, including falling from a ship while wearing god-enchanted armor. To survive, he cut the armor loose and let it sink to the ocean's depths and has never replaced it. He fights with no armor save some padding and his shield to keep him safe. That should be enough to get a basic idea of the character. his friendships were true, his intentions pure, and his desire to uphold law and justice from those who would corrupt it, unwavering. He was merciful however, a surrendered foe was in his charge and not to be harmed, provided they did not invite such harm after the point of surrendering. I hope this helped. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

    Map talk

From an AI's perspective on the new brig area, there are a lot of camera dead zones and poor lighting placements. It's been a bit since I last played the AI (like a week), so I'm unsure if those are fixed already but yeah. There's a dead zone in the visitor area of the communal and in one of the halls a single tile cannot be seen by the AI, perfect for hiding in the open.
  20. Most legal forms can be written in either black or blue, and red for any negative remarks and the like is typical, even in government offices. I don't see the issue.
  21. Qwerty: IPC. It is a short IPC unit, painted blue. It's new and pristine with a glossy finish. The unit only stands about 5 feet tall and makes use of hydraulic wrists and ankles to get extensions that can give it up to a foot in additional reach if needed. It's monitor constantly displays a game of breakout or brick attack. (Typically a hat of some sort is worn, either a blue cap, or department cap, though on occasion he wears a bandana) The habit of wearing a hat constantly covers the upper portions of the game on it's monitor and created a shifty eyed look with the paddle moving back and forth. The bottom right corner of the monitor has an embossed "QWERTY" in bold lettering. It is followed by a number to designate the chassis version (currently 1.3).( It typically works in cargo or robotics, wearing the attire of that department.) It's hands work much like regular human hands save for only containing four fingers, a thumb and three grasping digits. Outside of the hands, wrists, and ankles, the only other extra feature it has is a small slot that extends a "straw". This "straw" slots perfectly into a can without making a mess and leads to internal components designed to hold liquid for later disposal. Is this enough, I've not officially written his flavor text yet so I did this on the fly. If not let me know. I'd love to see Qwerty immortalized in artwork. Also, I'm not assuming I'll even be one of the ones you can do for free. If you don't pick me, I won't be able to pay for a commission.
  22. I can +1 this. Extended is always fun, especially since we are so heavily invested in the role play aspect of the game. I'd like some cannon friendships to pop up, but it's not happening cause I do my work then wait out whatever crap is happening with an antag.
  23. Unturned is a Steam Free-to-Play that is low quality but high functionality. Great game for my mind if you like Zombie survival.
  24. I know I'm new to the community and all, but I +1 this. Graphite is a helpful and loyal synthetic. The player also plays Graphite frequently, proving that their interest in the character isn't just passing.
  25. I don't have the time to dedicate to playing but I figured this could be helpful. http://falloutpnp.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Someone has done the math involved with the fallout and Fallout 2 games to create a core rules set. This might flow quite a bit easier than GURPS and would surely feel just like playing the game (leveling up, perks, and everything).
