  1. I've played a handful of rounds w/ Greenberg as an engineer. He obviously is experienced w/ the role and has given me some tips I didn't consider before. He gives great RP and great instructions from what I've seen, his character is developed and builds friendship with his engineers quite quickly. I don't have any real complaints on the ends I've seen so I'll be saying +1.
  2. BYOND key: EmperorJayJay Discord Username: jiji#4283 Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I think about eight months now? I had a few weeks where I stopped playing but I've been fairly consistent, at least getting a round a day or so. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Nothing but a few bwoinks over doing dumb things, I was still stuck in the /tg/ mindset of med of breaking in and doing stuff if people were dying but I've ousted that since. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The most obvious OOC purpose is to help manage players and crew, so that four people aren't responding to something really only fit for one. They also exist to facilitate communication between crew and other command members to make things easier, especially in situations where one department may not even know an option is present for them. An exosuit for medical, an exosuit for security if the situation is bad enough. Something broken in ops? OM will ask the CE and the CE will send someone to get it fixed. They act as a way to make rounds more interesting than the most minimal interactions. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Helping new players to get comfortable with the game and the deeper mechanical issues they may face. Helping to educate people IC and OOC on things they should and shouldn't be doing. Whitelisted players and heads of crew should be setting good examples and avoiding validhunting/metagaming as much as they possibly can. Whitelisted players also have the responsibility of facilitating roleplay, or greasing the gears, especially with the addition of ghost-roles. Having one command member can be the difference between SFA basically landing unannounced and being told they can come in with a security detail following them or something similar. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? The phoron shortage has done more than its fair amount of damage to the spur at large. Bright, an IPC made to oversee small docking ports in Kuenoi has spent the last eight years of its life managing this port. Orion Express, after purchasing a large amount of assets and equipment received the IPC in a merger and are now looking for a way to use it to expand their influence in the SCC and prove themselves, especially as new individuals within the SCC, thus, Bright. With Phoron flowing less and less and Orion Express looking to make a splash, they've put a significant amount of hope into this little positronic and sent it off to the SCCV Horizon, with one goal in mind: Find Phoron and impress the SCC by any means necessary. And remember. Orion Express, for all your logistic needs. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? At the moment I'm planning on playing OM and Consular/Representative for the near future. I want to promote my character SKIPPER to XO in the far future but they still have a lot of growth to make IC. The rest are in my mind for the nearer future such as a Research Director or something else. I'd like to play a Skrell, when I get the whitelist, or Eridani Captain once I'm more comfortable with the amount of control and delegation the role of Captain comes with. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes! Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Bright, Operations Manager. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Of course. Have you linked your byond account to the forums? I have. Extra notes: Keep in mind I'll generally be playing command at times I intend to be playing which will be generally low/medpop or non-events.
  3. Yeah, if this whole thing is added please double check IPC origins. The Himean IPC stuff only got a PR to fix it recently.
  4. Awesome suggestion. I think this could get a bit goofy for IPCs if every single IPC gets its cultural language and EAL, so maybe only EAL for Konyanger IPCs? Dunno. But so often I sort of have to choose between taking languages I want for RP and languages I'll actually think that character would want/learn IC intentionally and it can be so exhausting with the two slots.
  5. Honestly this sounds like the best of both worlds. Giving command/BC a place to quickly command from and give a run-down on things and having all the tools for people to take onto the Intrepid.
  6. I haven't played a ton of rounds with Sperky by themselves, usually with another character hanging out with us; I've played a handful with interacting with NT Bookworm and Kern. They RP consistent characters and are generally very good at keeping a conversation/interaction flowing between multiple characters. I'll be interested to see how they take on a CE role and how they do with any other command roles they might try in the future. +1!
  7. It feels like the majority vote in this thread and honestly a lot of the desire in-game is just to remove techno. I do worry if Techno goes Loner will just sort of take its place.
  8. I think a lot of people's problems come down to how frequently Techno rolls. How about raising the roll to 15 people? Or lowering frequency?
  9. Played as BC on a pretty chaotic and confusing round. AI, security and basically half of command staff seemed confused out of their minds during the round, but Jill was able to keep things organized enough and focused. +1!
  10. I think standardization is good, but maybe we should consider allowing docking arms to hang off the Horizon a bit, or more odd bends, etc. Deck three has a ton of open space that's unused and I dunno if there are any future plans to really put anything new up there/expand the bridge but putting some more places on D3 for people to hide/run off into would be useful, at the least. (I honestly think D3 needs a bit more maint tunnels just because of how kinda easy it is to find an antag up there if you know it decently enough.) Maybe give docking arms security checkpoints but make a way to bypass them either through maintenance or something else? Mercs rolling up and immediately running into the security cadet manning the checkpoint and the round going into Red almost immediately would suuuuuck.
  11. Yeah I can agree. Engineers have one in their lockers, but that currently mounts to 4 for engineers and 2 for atmos tech. I've had rounds where I had to rob Engineering to give GPSes to people leaving on an expedition. But full agree, GPSes are so necessary to RP and gameplay these days and tethering devices are basically unheard of that either the Intrepid needs to have a handful of GPSes or tethering devices aboard or there needs to be a way to print them. I'd also extend this to the off-station roles as well, at least most of them. TCFL, FSF/SFA, etc need stationbounced and GPSes.
  12. I like RPing with Jill as MAX and some of my other chars, they're a fun and chatty character who generally has good things to bring into a shift and communicates/updates Science on what's going on. I'd like to see how they adapt to an RD role and they definitely deserve a trial! +1
  13. Gem makes good maps and is gem-erally really consistent with making banger remaps. +1
  14. I think a lot of the non-standard access areas people flood into would benefit from this, honestly. Brig, the hall inside engineering, the R&D little hall thing, xenobot and xenobio and probably cargo's doors. I get it's for antags to trap people in, but giving one way access as a general thing could make for other interesting RP perspectives.
  15. Lone is self-motivated and has a lot of potential. They're basically posting stuff to fix every day or making suggestions for things that could be made a bit more efficient. I give them a +1!
  16. This would be super useful and give OM and HT more to do per round. Both roles kinda have their ~15 minutes of setup and then spend most of the round chilling.
  17. I've played with MrGodzilla's chars a few times, Mostly Jani and Samir and they play very good and consistent characters. They make rounds interesting and know their roles well and are obviously very competent OOC. Their character is extremely detailed and consistent. +1 from me!
  18. I love Cybs idea, honestly. Having themed pods and with enough survival equipment that one could have some fun RP even alone, or having multiple spawns at once so several people could have survival horror RP until someone either came or the crew got paranoid and scared enough they started splitting up or fighting. Obviously someone needs to code and map all this, but I think it could be a lot more dynamic. Especially if a few pods that were CURRENT EVENT relevant were added. Like a Trinary Exclusionist escape pod or SFA escapees. I feel like the potential for interactions where the crew arrests or antagonizes someone relatively innocent could be interesting RP. I think another cool factor could be giving the pod survivor stuff to give over to the crew as a reward. A lot of time pod survivors spawn with guns for self defense or drugs or whatever else, which I don't mind at all. RP and character setting stuff is always useful. But a lot of the time as soon as you're found it turns into; "Okay hand all that over, its gonna go in the armory/medical storage and not be touched by ship crew". Giving off-ship people resources the crew could use like metals, glass, etc would be a good reward for actually attempting to rescue them.
  19. I love this idea, frankly. This could extend to other species as well. Maybe picking between organic only or synthetic only and then distributing who has it and who doesn't. I've always like the idea of a vamp IPC mode but forcing IPCs to feed off of APCs seems like it would be especially painful on low engineering rounds. Maybe more of a focus on draining equipment, draining cyborg chargers or computers rather than just turning entire parts of the ship off like Ninja does. Just my suggestion, otherwise I dig it.

    Mining

I think some of the biggest issues I have with mining can be summed up in three points: - Even with the spawns as they are, it is completely possible to have a spawn where no viable asteroids/exoplanets/derelicts are nearby. If the Horizon can't be moved or an engineer can't add more CO2 to our canister then you're fucked. - Going to a derelict can net you with stuff you really don't need for your job. Coming back with 20k guns for security is cool, but most of the derelicts don't have any resources that sci/machinist uses. I've had rounds as machinist where miners go to a derelict and don't bring anything I can use so I end up treating my entire round as if I was off-duty and not really doing anything. - Because of how mining is, you can get a run where a miner lands, walks outside and immediately gets munched and either dies in transit or gets told by a doctor/decides IC not to go out on a second try. This might cause the other miner(s) to not want to go as well. I see really two fixes, though I am sure there are more: - Rocks need more materials. Up drop rates, up spawn rates, whatever. Due to how mining works now and the overhead in transport a lot of the time, especially during med/lowpop. Miners can spend an hour mining and return with only enough for really one department. - We are the Aurora, are we really shipping off every haul we get? Phoron is what we want, Phoron is what we need. Phoron is what we breathe. If we need gold, silver, uranium, diamond, etc, etc in projects aboard the ship then it would make sense to have some stored. Simply, give machinist and science some basic materials in their own departments to work with. Put it in a locked crate that needs the proper access, whatever. Just ten, fifteen in a stack would let us be able to build a lot more things after we finish prepping. Many of the actually broken items still need Phoron to be produced.
  21. I've interacted with Matt, he's cordial, he's focused and competent and he has an interest in a lot more of the lore than just the things that have been focused on historically. He already has some interesting take-aways and thoughts on lore that I haven't seen other people come up with. I'd love to see Matt in the human lore team just to see how he'd fare with a lot of the more interesting questions and topics of the lore. How he'd do with some of the greyer places in the Coalition or other places.
  22. As a traitor, seeing sec being majority IPC really sucks. I've played IPC-sec, I've played against them as antags, this isn't about power gaming or how they have an unfair advantage, it's about how dealing with them can hard round-end someone if there is no Machinist aboard. Dealing with human sec you can fire on someone enough to get them to back off, whereas IPC-sec it tends to be fire until they're dead and pray a machinist is on to fix them or a scientist is willing to fix them; or spend TC on EMP/Ion weapons. This also extends somewhat to Diona, but obviously Diona in sec is less of an issue. My suggestion for improving on this is giving traitors some cheaper but more close quarters ways to deal with IPCs and a temporary battery drain value to IPCs. Give traitors a special IPC prod that takes either two whacks to turn an IPC off for a few minutes or an IPC-flavored parapen that knocks you to zero power for a few minutes. Items that could deny areas to IPCs and other species could be interesting as well, something that effects power and batteries in a small area, tossed in a hallway behind a running antag would get people to stop chasing when their battery begins to rapidly drain. The temporary part being the most important part. Heck, certain items or an effect could be applied that gives some sort of forgetfulness text; "Your system was shut offline suddenly, you can't remember the details of your shutdown!" The idea behind this is to mitigate having to straight round-remove an IPC character because they're in your way or trying to stop you. Many times we either don't have a machinist on to fix IPCs or if we do it still takes a while to print a new shell for them.
  23. I would kill for this mostly to just speed up roundstart when people vote secret with 4 people on and it has to go through every round type before either succeeding or failing on autotraitor and just rolling extended anyway.

    Mining

As a semi-minermain I would prefer not to have mining have escorts. More medical supplies so miners don't die in transit would honestly be the best. Give some coag, maybe an inhaler of pneumalin, etc, etc. The Intrepid takes long enough to launch when everyone is pre-prepped I find, having to make sure command knows and every other person on the station knows that the mining vessel is going and with who and what would be a heck I am not fond of. Usually people will reach out to security if they aren't feeling confident in their ability to safely go to a place and come back anyway. Though accompanying a miner can be pretty damn boring for sec if the characters aren't friends/will have fun interaction. I've had shifts when NBT was first launched where sec was forced along with me and I could tell the other person was NOT having fun even with me trying to engage them.
  25. It's not as common as it could be, but I've seen about four rounds in the last month where an individual or two get deleted off or the whole thing gets purged. And knowing OOC it can cause some flavor of icky ocky.
