Staff Complaint- Ricky Madenson
Ricky_the_banshee replied to Bygonehero's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Yes, this was quite an investigation going on. Both Nat and I had to work together on this because it was related to both the AI and complaitant in question, but I'll explain how I got to the conclusion. I received complaints of players (One of them happened to be Serveris) who would complained about potentional ganking which occured in the Medbay ORs. So as a response to this, both Nat and I were investigating this, Nat would question the AI and their directives and I would engage the supposed Ganking Cyborg by the name of TALON (played by you). After I asked you by PM what drove them to killing the three characters. When they explained to me the AI ordered to kill on sight, I asked you why you let RP out of youractions, using the engineer as an example, as the engineer was shot on sight without warning other than a vague "Hostile detected" statement. Now here is a small segment of the screeshot which you provided to me that changed my mind over your verdict, you left before I could eventually explain it further to you; http://puu.sh/pGTWJ/85b16437c5.png The argument where as you stated and shown that the AI was indeed the one who ordered you to go for the kill isn't entirely wrong, BUT what I also noticed in the screenshot which you had shown as evidence to the AI giving you terrible directives, was that you basically asked to kill. You didn't exactly ask "What should I do?" or "What is my objective?", no instead is was basically asking "Can I kill these people?" . It's come to me that no other options came up to you expect for the "Exterminate" option which is a very poor choice when you have many other options at place. And when no such alternative is available, then you at least provide some form of Roleplay before you kill off these characters. You disagreed about the ordeal with the Engineer and insisted that killing them off directly was the right option as they were a risk to you because of the flash. Which again made me frown as it was shown that you did not engaged the player with any proper narrative or roleplay before you shot them. Just because you see the engineer with a flash does not make him the biggest treat on the entire station. Yes, they were holding a flash and that is a huge risk for Synthetic units. HOWEVER, when it comes to a SECURITY unit which is (especially in your case as a Malf borg) equipped with TWO different ranged weapons you could have at least hold the engineer in question under gunpoint before you went for the trigger, but instead you rushed in and unleashed a barrage of laserfire on them, no goodbyes, and again no roleplay. Another interesting detail that struck me was in your screenshot. I will cut the specific part and show it here; During our PM conversation, you stated you shot the engineer AFTER you saw it flashing CUBIE, but the logs here show that you were already shooting. Hinting to another interesting point whereas CUBIE was already attacking the Noel, it seems to me that you were assisting them in the act of murder without any further narrative or engangement other than a simple "HOSTILE DETECTED". What I also found an interesting argument was when you stated that you "were doing the right thing as a borg and simply followed the AI's orders". That is fine, UNLESS you suspect there could be a conflict with the server rules, whereas this case it was on the edge of ganking. What I found rather ironic was that later in the round the AI requested another borg, Cadmus, to "remove personell from the transfer shuttle by force.". In this case, the Cadmus' player decided to Ahelp and make sure this action would be approved by staff. Another staff member responded and told them it was a no-go. And finally, then there is the warning. What I meant by it was that it wasn't necessarily "ganking" at it's full go by which I mean your intention wasn't entirely to gank, but rather ganking as a result of poor judgement. Your decision to go for the kill as the first option here is what is the problem and the warning was make you reconsider your approaches in the future. -
[Accepted] Ricky's mod app
Ricky_the_banshee replied to Ricky_the_banshee's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
An half hour? Then it might have been a bigger fault that I'm looking at. I received another ahelp about the same problem and did reply to that one. Serveris was already online and I was able to contact them through Msay. If it turns out I had forgotten about yours then I sincerely apologize. Either I was distracted or looking into it. Eitherway, I am certain I did inform over msay that there were people talking about vulgar subjects in OOC. I do once again apologize for not intervening further. -

Ah, yes sorry about that. I did actually mention it over msay to the others when Severis decided to mute OOC. I forgot to actually reply and mention it was resolved. -
The Muncorn's Skrell Whitelist Application
Ricky_the_banshee replied to Muncorn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Woop, another Alien app to review. Grab some popcorn and review that shit! Yes, yes, yes! The few times a Skrell actually got onboard, they were mostly Heads and those are just two as far as I know. Then there is one pink-ish(?) Skrell in Security but I can't exactly remember their name. You would think that Nanotrasen would hire more Skrell especially due to their smarts and relationship with Humanity at most. Alright, all though it's a bit on the short-side compared to others, I still think you covered quite alot about your character. As someone who has roleplayed a lot with them on UT/Alphelion etc I can confirm that Mun is one Hell of a GOOD RPer. Muncorn is somebody you could definitely trust with the Skrell app. They've obviously done their research, their Roleplaying skills are at a high level and they would most certainly be the perfect Skrell candidate. So the final verdict for me would definitely be a +1 and a gif for good luck: -
Finally, someone suggests this and happends to be part of the team. I wouldn't see any problems with this, because I would most definitely take this over "pencils not fitting in just one tiny bit of space in my "full" backpack"

[Denied] Double Whitelist App. CMO + Tajara
Ricky_the_banshee replied to Zakumei47's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Before I begin with giving my response to all of your answers, I'm just going to say that this app was made WAAAAAAY too soon for somebody who has literally spend time for only a few hours. But now let's begin, grab some popcorn and review that shit! HOLD ON. The Tajara is called "Natalie"? Sorry, but I doubt I find such a common Western-Human name with a Tajara. Just a few hours. How exactly do you expect the community to trust you with the responsibilities as a Head/Alien this quickly? I'm sorry, but this just holds way too many lore inconsitency that just reading this already makes me want to give the -1. Tajaras did not meet with Humanity up untill the 25th century. Also, I'd doubt NT would /ever/ hire somebody who was involved in some corporate-sabotage conspiracy and to make them a Head too? Yeaaaah, Overall. Your ambitions and your answers regarding roleplaying seem to be at the right spot. But I think this app is just way too young and also out of place. For future references, seperate your head app and Alien app and start with just one of them first. If your character/yourself get some recognition, then people will be able to provide you with more feedback. So I'm afraid I will have to give this a -1 and wish you the best of luck in the future. -
Uhm, I don't think you're supposed to post your NEW application into your old one. Especially not when the first one hasn't been locked/closed yet. Other than that, your backstory and overall changes appear to be just an attempt to make your character look like the perfect Unathi. When it comes to RP skills, I don't know. I have never really had any interactions with you so far. So I'll leave that opinion to others. And as a side note, it's not "Space Station 13". The station itself is called the NSS Exodus, which just shows how little you know about the lore in general actually. Not really helpful for your Unathi app. But this post, I mean...;

Finally, now certain antag types can finally have OOC talks about their antag group's background, (where are these pirates from, the raids they have been doing. Name for the crew etc.). The perfect way for antags to handle OOC related subjects regarding antag playstyle, mechanics etc. Just think of the possibilities, because I know Curel's gonna like it;
-
Well thanks for the answers Nanako. I think the idea of the whitelist seems to be growning more on to me-- Wow, wow, wow a blacklist?
-
A nice, one thing less to worry about then.
-
The security whitelist, oh boy. Yes, I've seen this debate come along quite some times on OOC. The idea of a security whitelist is...Well, I get the concept. We get Baldie McRobust to join as Security Officer, he says nothing over the radio, /maybe/ throws one "hello" over the COMMON radio and few minutes later is found beating up somebody with his stun baton and gets tased while screaming "no pls" and gets bwoinked. This illustration I mentioned above is probably ONE of the many reasons why the idea of the Whitelist came to be. But something I didn't notice is what about officers we already trust with their position? Are their characters forced to go through the cadet process all over again to get to the Sec position? Because it sounds like a chore to figure out which ckey/character has already proven itself to be worthy of the Officer/Warden/etc position and restore them at once. Yes, and HoS will end being constantly spammed by cadets requesting for a sec app. Not to mention these HoS have a social life and won't be always on to pay attention to this since that's not their first priority when they start up SS13 and join the server. Yes, why only security? Medical has shown some increasing playercounts lately, should it get regulated too knowing Chemistry and virology carries alot of risks? Playing the Devil's Advocate here, I'm just trying to show this reason can be applied to other departments too, even Engineering. And finally the amount of growth Security has been quite positive. The new names appearing in Sec have proven themselves to be quite competent. It would be a shame to have them go through the whitelist routine just now that they got to the position and showing they can do it. That doesn't entirely bad, but let's be honest. Whitelisted players have proven to be capable RPers who know how to supervise their department. But can they remain objective as possible and base their reviews on players to determine they won't fuck up the server? Moderation and whitelist accepting is something I believe should be kept in the hands of Aurora staff ONLY. They are the people entrusted with the capable of good decision making and what's best for the server. Finally, I don't feel like giving this a +1 but I'm leaning closer to a -1 yet I don't want to give it. We're going to find empty Sec teams or teams full of Cadets demanding sec officer equiment and later found as glorified cadets who are pretty much just officers.

A boy a race app. Get ready to grab your popcorn, think of the best words to sound VERY smart while conducting your analysis and REVIEW that shit! Okay, but jokes aside. Time to review. This answer seems way too short for me. WHY is it that you wanted to start with the Unathi? WHAT aspect of them made you choose this race specificly? More details would be wonderful. I am just going to ask the same questions as Fire and Glory already asked. This answer doens't show anything that gives us an insight as to your perspective on Unathi other than "Inferior Lizard people". Puny name is puny. Ding. Okay, this looks more like some PR for an Unathi chef trying to be famous than a background story. And once again it doesn't really show much of you knowledge into the Unathi lore itself. Yes "he likes meat", I got that part from the using fruit and vegetables as decoration. But what about his past? Just WHO is Eshiosh Languageh? Because I can't find anything back in this background other than "He is a chef and if you don't like his food he will kill commit seppuku." Now then, as an add-up to all of this, I don't think you are ready yet for the Unathi app. Not only have I never heard of you before. But as Nanako and Fire and Glory already said before me, you don't seem to know that much about what it means to BE an Unathi. So I'm afraid I'm giving this a -1 as a result.

My point exactly in this case. Maybe give it a shot with a Human character before you take such a huge step as a Whitelisted race. -
[Accepted] Nanako's Unathi application
Ricky_the_banshee replied to Nanako's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Here we go, another race app! The backstory looks amazing. It appears well-written and ties in with the lore (Just had to check the lore again real quick because "come on, we all had to just to be safe".) Nanako is good with the gameplay, mechanics etc. But then this is something I have to mention again and that has to be her her multiple Nanako problem. All though I've actually heard Engineering Nanako trying to act more vulgar and macho-type ,which hints they are trying their best to improve their RP and provide more diversity to their characters, still fear that may still end up as a problem. Maybe it would have been nice if you played a few rounds as a completely different character just to show you can play anything else but Nanako (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and maybe then we could properly picture you playing Saphira someday. So, the answer you have probably been waiting for. Is it going to be a +1 or a -1? Well... neither in my case. As I said, you're improving and that is great. But I think it's for the best you try out (as Jboy also suggested) a completely new character who is not a Nanako and try develop a personality with this one so you can show us that you are capable of fleshing out a new character without us realizing it's just another. Other than that, I wish you good luck and cheers. -
[Shelved] Whiteist -CANCELLED-
Ricky_the_banshee replied to Kvothe's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
It's one of those rare moments when I don't feel like doing a full review because I know Kvothe so well know that I'm just happy to see Doctor Eliza appear in a round. This guy IS chemistry. Not only that, he knows how things work around Medbay and tries his best to uphold to them which is definitely something a CMO needs. Other than that, I do have ONE minor issue I find with Eliza which is that he feels like cryoing/departing as soon as things go south or when he feels like "his job is done". Something that needs to be changed before he becomes a CMO. I would definitely overlook that issue since this guy is a good Medical player. So here is my +1 and let's make Medbay great again! -
Yes, I figured a Character complaint would come about this guy. Where do I start? Right, this IPC is more emotional and causes more drama than a freaking expendable character featured in Desperate Housewives. Either he's trying his best to have cyber sex with a Station-bound Cyborg or he is having some kind of issue with another crew member. Since I wasn't really a part of any of these, I just let these slip pass me. BUT then the day had come when I stumbled upon this. So, during a Heister round. Blank-Bot repeatifily asks and requests for this /one/ particulair borg to be kept alive, to the point of becoming furious and emotional when said borg is mentioned in Heist suggestions such as "selling for parts". At some point, this borg managed to find our shuttle and what does BLANK-BOT do? Of course, he lets the borg in with the risks of it telling out our location. When the team questioned him about it, he got mad at us and told us it was something about "true" love or us being jealous etc (Going back to that Housewive remark.) Somewhat after mid-round, I end up witnessing the two having and I say again some kind of cyber hugging and kissing to the point where and I try to describe it as it was emoted grinding their monitor against Said-borg's face as if they were FRENCH KISSING them which felt out of place and completely ridiculous. From any IPC encounter I have faced, this one feels more like a Human who doesn't need to eat (not counting APC power charging), doesn't have to worry about a pandemic or Medical attention and happends to look like a robot.

Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Ricky madenson Character Name(s): Curel Wald, Shane Halevy (and a few others I rarely use now) AI Name(s): None. Preferred means of contact: Skype, What'sApp (And I'm always open for new ones such as Discord.) Age: 17 Timezone: UTC + 1:00 (Amsterdam) When are you on Aurora?: During weeks around 4-5 PM. Weekends/Holidays: 1-3 PM Experience How long have you played SS13?: 5-6 years IIRC. Started out as a goon to find myself the good RP servers. How long have you played on Aurora: 1 year I believe. I did stop by during the times the old map still existed./b] How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Little of engineering and science, more about Medbay and intents etc. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Yes, I've done some (trial)moderating for CM. My promotion to Moderator was denied however after one screw up right on the day I was expectting it. I didn't take the demotion wrong at all, and instead took it as a way to learn what the role as Mod truely meant and the boundaries that come with it. The punishment was however considered unjust by other staff IIRC because it was mainly based on a previous demotion on a Headmin. After that, it went a bit low and I the moderating job Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Never. Personality Why do you play SS13?: To have fun and Roleplay. Why do you play on Aurora?: Roleplay has been my drive to start with SS13 in the first place. I was mostly talked into it by some people I met on Byond and it eventually got stuck on me. What do moderators do?: Providing OOCly and ICly security and overwatch. Mainly to deal with situations looked at from an OOC perspective. (Random griefer, rules violation, OOC grudges being transfered ICly etc.). To act as some kind of mentor should there be a player with questions regarding mechanics, gameplay and RP. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: The part I mentioned above and to make Aurora great again. And of course, to act as a friendly face to represent the server itself. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I've seen the adds and announcements passing by about "looking for more mods" and I figured that you could use some additional forces in your team. Since I have some experience I thought i would be a fitting candidate. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I can work with a team. I can be communicative, know how to handle stressful situations appropriatly. I like to help out people as much as I can too. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Just fine actually. After spending some time with a psychologist irl (due to mild depression) I've figured ways to easily cope with stress and such. I know this is an important part as a mod to not allow myself to get wrapped up by emotions. Anything Else You Want to Add: It seems my biggest drawback is being rarely active on the forums. I will try to change this in the future.

Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): (Religious) Myth Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): Pre-Hegemony Region of Space: Uueoa-Esa Controlled by (if not a faction): N/A Other Snapshot information: Basically this app holds to a Mythos added to the Unathi religion which I figured was an interesting concept itself. Long Description: The legend of the Ku'umwa was an ancient tale which presumably originated within the moutainous ridge between the cities of Argonia and Ura'Mastyx. According to the legend, the FIRST tribe on Moghes supposdly lived within the skies above the holy mountains as Winged entities refered as the "Ku'umwa", which translates to "The Ones who ruled the skies". Gifted by the Great Spirit Sk'akh for their out of their generousity, the Ku'umwa tribe was crafted by their hands to become the first Dominant beings on Moghes". Blessed with wings, the Ku'umwa primary food source became local birds according to the . Sk'akh told their Winged creations the following: "Ssspread your wingsss and may the wind guide them through your hunt acrosss the World. But, be warned my creationsss Asss thossse who dare to lay foot on the ground ssshall forever become a part of it". Thus it became taboo for the Ku'umwa Tribe to ever rest their feet on the Continents. The Ku'umwa lived in prosperity. But then a disaster came to be. Due to the greedful hunting and neglect of the wildlife, The Ku'umwas only food supply started to decrease. One Ku'umwa called "Nacasss We'sssen" stepped up to the Ku'umwa Tribe council and demanded leadership of the tribe as the new Elder due to the current one's failure in preserving their security and prospere lifestyle. Nacasss managed to defeat the Elder and execute them, assuming the new title as Mika'a'iil (Presumably the ancient Ku'umwa word for "Elder One"). As his first act, Nacass defied the law of the "Endless Flight" and ordered his trustful companions to join him with the "Landing". As Nacass and his loyal companions landed, the end of the Ku'umwa Tribe came to be. Their wings were taken from them, causing all the Ku'umwa to fall down and become "Wingless". Desperate and confused due to their new circumstances, the remnants of the Ku'umwa each departed their own ways to establish their own tribes which grew and developed to become the Tribes of Modern Days. When Human and Skrell Historians did research on the Cultural aspects of Moghean culture, they would question cooperative tribes about their legends and Religion. Near the mountain regions between Argonia, one tribe Elder mentioned the Legend of the Ku'umwa. Human historians compared the Ku'umwa with the concept of Abrahamic Angels (But featuring Unathi physical attributes parallel to Abrahamic Angels often being showcased as Human-like.)

Oh boy, Siganto as HoS. Let's have a look; As someone who has interacted with Siganto multiple times, I can tell that it's definitely an officer to look up to. He holds up to SoP, listens to Command and does his job. If what Nanako says is true about you leaving Mid-round for cryo then I do suggest working on that (But then again, I can't say if this is because you are a busy person yourself ICly or simply get bored that's all on you.). And playing the Devil's Advocate here too, I have seen other Heads of Staff doing this as well and worse enough they barely announce they go to cryo. I'm not saying this means it's OK, but should there be something which requires you to go for Cryo DO inform your team/Command/Security of this as communication is of essence. Besides, it's nice to know you are leaving before people start yelling for you over the radio and minutes later get the announcement you are stored in cryo storage. I'm not sure if you're refering to Employment/Medical records. But as someone who regularly plays as a Head, Employment records are something you SHOULD work on especially if you want some credibility as to your position (After witnessing some Command channel discussions between Heads lacking records whatsoever.). Your roleplaying skills are definitely OK for a Security Officer's standards so I do hope you take these with you as a HoS. I would definitely give you a +1 to see you work as a HoS! P.S. Don't break muh legs.

agreed, as said i probably shouldn't have it in those situations, i'll use more restraint in future You would have noticed me carrying it a LOT in that last changeling round, and that's because i fully intended to murder someone with it, though i never got the chance (changelings are, canonically, a murderous creature that's killed your character and is now imitating them, so this would have been fine) Magojiro is typically seen in a medical belt and webbing, laiden down with syringes and chems. Lately a labcoat when i don't have to be the stand-in paramedic. Weiss always wears a black jumpskirt, white armband, white gloves, and black shoes, it's very intentionally close to a maid outfit FWIW, you may have noticed, Dr Magojiro is generally less respectful, except to people she likes and/or direct superiors. Weiss is polite to everyone Magojiro never actually wore the nurse hat, even during her time as a Nurse, The first thing i always did upon spawning was throw it in the nearest disposal, because it interferes with a medical voidsuit helmet. Well, call me silly, but i like the name. Why does naming pose a barrier to any of this though ?But yes i'm working on that I don't recall Dr Wald being antag very often, i there any other character? I remember having a big argument about voidsuit storage, other thing kind of fade into the fuzziness of memory That is true, but i could also be wrong. I could spend the entire round thinking the AI has gone crazy, while cultists slowly sacrifice and convert the entire station. In fact i have done that several times. when wierd stuff happens, its logical to suspect someone or something, if i can't reliably pick who, then i don't see an issue there. may do this, thank you -

As someone who has interacted with most of your characters. Don't take this the wrong way. When it comes to mechanics and gameplay, you know how things work which is a good thing. But in your case at most, also a bad thing. It's come to my attention that you powergame quite alot (especially in the Past but that is starting to ease down by now.). One good example is your overuse of Death alarms without a legitimate reason and playing as an EMT/MD with an axe "just in case you require to do forced entry" despite the presence of an AI/Borgs/Personell with access. Also, when it comes to your Roleplaying skills they are lacking. Your characters have almost to no diversity when it comes to personality. And when you attempt to make one of them look like the "asshole" and the other like the "friendly maid", these differences are quickly overshadowed by your primary character's traits which they all happen to share commonly. All of them posses the same first name where they have all become so recognizable as to being a bad meme now and their existance only appears to be for the sole purpose of having your character being able to hop to a different department and work there because that's exactly what it is. And then there is your validhunting behaviour. All though I don't have a solid example, I have often found you trying to pin alot of blame on supposed antags just to find them in a cell. And I fear that this will become a problem when you posses the power of a Heads of Staff. So then. As a conclusion I'm afraid that I will have to give a -1. There is alot you have to change about your behaviour ICly and OOCly and of course, your RP skills in general. -

Fluffybirbs IPC Whitelist
Ricky_the_banshee replied to FluffyBirb's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Shard of Aether has always been a great addition to Medbay. I've only met Kala once (And devoured her later as a ling) so I can't tell much of that character. But eitherway, they're an excellent RPer as Aether and I'd definitely /love/ to see them play out this IPC concept. +1 from me.
