  1. I agree with Skull on this one. Most cases of Xenobiology outbreaks aren't done by malicious intent either, but are in fact caused by newbie mistakes/Players accustomed to other servers' xenobiology etc. Enforcing jobbans on these people would simply be unfair for the player and would break the friendy enviroment of the server. The problem with deaths caused in xenobiology is usually the blame of ignorance. Security has a tendency to "Rush in, think later". Deploying Synthetics to get rid off the slimes is one alternative to lower the casualties for example, yet security tends to deal it with themselves. And EVEN when security decides to do it themselves, they rarely plan their approach properly, simply rushing into the place with fire extinguishers just to meet their doom. As someone who plays mains Medbay and has seen the many Xenobiologists receiving cryo treatment due to accidents in xenobiology, I get your point. BUT we all have to start somewhere, and the start of something doesn't always go as smoothly as you'd expect.
  2. Ding dong, time for another review! Alright, makes sense. Mhm, good! Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. This would have been OK in my book IF it weren't for the randomly added redacted. Honestly, what's the point of adding that info if it's classified anyway? I can overlook it as this is just a backstory, but by any means, do NOT transfer that over to your records at all UNLESS you've had some talk with the DOs pending the redacted/classified information. Because believe me when I tell you you're gonna have trouble with that when someone goes through a record review and reports thatt to the CCIA. Right, to keep it short. I'll just let you know I believe you answered all further questions well. So here is my opinion on you OOCly and ICly. OOc: You seemed like a nice guy, spilled a few memes here and there. Just by this, I wouldn't mind giving you a +! IC: I've met Alex Crossman when I played as a HoS. I remember how it wasn't just a few minutes in the round and I hear you calling me over the comms about a "hacked APC". It felt ridiculous and powergamey that I'm afraid as to how this will transfer over to your CMO character. Will you tone it down etc? So honestly, your App seems fine. I wouldn't give this a -1, but I'm not sure as to whether I should give you a +1. So I'm just going to keep my verdict as neutral. Perhaps some time I'll see your character shine in a different limelight and I will change my mind. If so, I'll update my decision. Anyhow, good luck!
  3. Boy, am I glad with all the replies. Thanks everyone for answering.
  4. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Space Settlements Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): 22th Century (Estimated 2125-ongoing) Region of Space: All space colonized by Humanty Controlled by (if not a faction): Depends on the territory (But very likely only Human/Skrell controlled territory) Other Snapshot information: So, are there any members of the Lore team who could share their thoughts? Other players who have their own ideas as to what these Space settlements COULD look like? Share them please! Long Description: So, yeah. Our lore contains indications of so-called Space Settlements, where people simply live (perhaps work as well, considering maintenance, security will be a thing onboard as well.). When people talk about these stations, never has there actually been a well-detailed description of what they look like other than "It's just a Space station where people just live like people do planetside.". I'm a fan of sci-fi/Sci-fantasy. Hell, I've watched tons of Science Fiction movies from Aliens to even anime series based in space such as the Gundam Franchise and most of them cover the appearance of what Space Settlements could look like. So, here is my lore suggestion for one potentional appearance of Space settlements; (WARNING, PICTURE IS QUITE BIG.) Taking the Gundam Franchise's Space Colony design for a example; And here are some examples to the interior of the colony; Of those who frequently follow news of space travel/settlement projects or generally like to dig into physics, some of you might say; "Hey, wait a minute. This looks like the O'Neill Cylinder". That's because IT IS the O'Neil Cylinder. A settlement designed created by Physicist Gerard K. O'Neill who had written about it in his book, The High Frontier. It's one of the most accepted potentional concepts of futuristic Space Settlements that even NASA has based designs on O'Neill's original concepts, improving on it to compensate with the recent discoveries after the book was published in 1976. A small bit of explanation as to how the Artificial Gravity works; The Cylinders were originally meant to be placed in Earth's Lagrangian points. For those who don't know, the Lagrangian points are sights within the Earth and Moon's Orbital configuration whereas gravitional pull within these "points" assures that any object within remains in orbit with the Earth and the Moon, meaning that they will not drift away as our Earth and Moon embark on their journey around our Sun (This applies to any other Large bodies within our universe). Moving on the the artificial gravity. The settlement will utilize centrifugal force (Inertial forces) which deviate from the Cylinder's axis by rotating the Cylinder approximitely twenty-eight times PER hour around it's Axis. Of course you can find more information on the O'Neil Cylinder with a simple Google search, a documentary on Youtube OR by reading the book of the original designer of the O'Neil Cylinder, Gerard K. O'Neill.
  5. Actually, the lore DOES cover that. In the early centuries of space travel, most colonies were based on ethics/culture. Which means you have colonies out there with a population comprised of Eastern people, African people etc. One good example of this would be Mars. Here is a copy-paste section of the Mars' lore regarding it's Ethic make-up; As you can see, some cultural differences might still exist in the future, BUT unlike present days, they are likely more keen to prioritize the Collective's will over their own Cultural aspects. Which means Humanity has reached a true Multicultural society. I hope this answers most of your questions, since I'm not exactly a Lore dev. Perhaps one will elaborate on this in the future. Cheers!
  6. Okay, I honestly thought this was some clickbait. Let me give you an example as to how the LGBTQ community is perceived most likely on the server. IC: It's the 25th century, Earth or Humanity in general has had so many things to have come across with, their homeworld slowly decaying, Space colonization, The First Interstellar War. I have serious doubts as to whether they ever had the time to actually hate on LGBTQs that they likely have become accepting towards them as every single Human being counted from that moment on. I've met some fair share of TG or gay characters, Hell I'm quite sure one BI has a crush on my character. Do I hate on it? No, I've treated them the way my character treats every other person. Let's not forget that NT has a regulation which states that "Threatening other people's lifes in anyway" will result into a brig sentence. Which means NT does care in some degree, as threats to people with a different sexual preference can lead to a brig sentence or fine. Now, let's take it from an OOC perspective; We have a playerbase composed of people ALL OVER THE WORLD and as grim as it may sound, not every part of the world tolerates the LGBTQ community as much as you think. Will they be loud over it on OOC if even a single mention is made about LGBTQs? Maybe, but we have mods to calm them down. We can't exactly force these people to change their perspectives since they come from entirely different parts of the world where they have been taught and raised to think the way they do now, because that's how they perceive the status quo. But we can direct them to rule 0 or mute them from OOC if they even dare to post threats in any form. Sometimes, jokes will be made too, but don't take them too serious. The best way to hang out with these people is by simply being yourself. You don't have to be loud about the LGBTQ community, preaching about rights on OOC, because it will make you look bad as well. You will give the impression you are attempting to force your own opinions upon others and nobody will like that, especially not on OOC frankly, not everyone is interested. And honestly, nobody is interested in an OOC flame war revolved around politics, ethics etc. We have rule 0 to take care of anyone attempting to threaten people part of this communty. So finally, what I'm trying to say here is Don't worry about it too much. Everybody is here to have fun, from every new player joining up to the staff. We're all here to have the same experience, which is RP. If you ever encounter somebody who threatens you over OOC, don't be afraid to Ahelp the staff as they'll gladly resort with the incident.
  7. Please, use proper formatting for the complaint; http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=22
  8. Okay, for real now. Hey, that's a new name. Okay. but just is just a plain and simple answer that can be appled to literally any other species. Please be more specific as to what makes it different as to being a TAJARAN than a Human. Character Name: Hur' Hash I'sughan Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs I'll be honest. After reading through the backstory, I feel like giving it a -1. Mommy died cause sickness? Daddy got assasinated? Where is the Legendary Katana which grants the 7 souls of Messa? When is it going to be revealed his mother is some Special snowflakey element too? I'm sorry, but the start feels snowflakey at the wrong side. A little bit of special isn't wrong, but this one is for my taste. Before I finish this off. I will give you a word of advice. Consider spending more time on the server, get to know how things work around here. Research other characters and their personalities, characteristics etc. I'm not telling you to copy them, oh no. But with studying, you can help develop something great and creative out of this. Right now, you're just not at a mature state enought that I feel like you deserve the Tajaran whitelist position, so I'm going to give this a -1. Good luck in the future, buddy.
  9. I have had only a few interactions with Black as Wald, and it's hard to recall them. Sorry I can't tell much about them. ALL THOUGH, ECOM is an AI I'm happy see around. It's good to have an AI sometimes that isn't some edgy, sassy, personified computer. So here is a synthetic thumbs up of approval!
  10. What's this? Another race app? TIME TO REVIEW THAT---WAAAAAAAIIIIT.
  11. So. Here it is. Give me any feedback on my character, from her little quirks all the way up to her most obvious characteristics. Any feedback counts in my eyes! (Except ERP requests)
  12. Just a few questions. Do Syndie borgs have similar access to the station as regular borgs? When disabled, can Syndie borgs be reprogrammed and synced to the station AI? What sort of lawset do you plan to give the syndie borg?
  13. Look at that! Another Heads of staff whitelist! Time to review this shit! GRUMPY and Needle are two of my favorite synthetics onboard the station. Not to mention GRUMPY has made a reputation (a positive one if IIRC) onboard the station for appearing frequently. As for Needle, they're one of the best doctors I've worked with in Medbay. THey do regular examinations, uphold Medbay protocol, definitely a doctor to look up to. Your answers about Roleplay are at the right spot. Good! For an IPC background, it is not as snowflakey as I expected. But it's still well-written, I'd say. I like how some doctors are referenced in your backstory as well. Other than that, I see no inconsistencies or anything that would bring up question marks. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think that Needle is a very strong adherent of procedures, a team player and I've also played quite a few rounds in medical with different character that while I don't know everything, I know a good portion of the mechanics. I can confirm most of this. Needle is one of the few doctors who doesn't pull patients around, force them into scanners without asking and immediatly sends them off wihtout fruther examination/questioning. I believe he could definitely uphold protocol in Medbay. Ever since Synth right movements are slowly becoming a thing again, I feel like having one IPC added to the Heads of Staff roster would bring for some intriguing Roleplay elements. Needle is definitely the one IPC I'd want to find in Medbay. So here is my +1 and my best wishes.
  14. Look at that, another fellow Ligger app! Time to review this shit! A name I frequently see appearing on OOC. They come off as friendly, coolheaded. Too bad I don't know many of your characters. Sorry. As long as you remember that Aurora lore on Unathi will be different from the past. Yep, makes sense. This is leaning to the right direction. Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Her story is special, I admit. But there seem to be some gaps here and there. When exactly did a slave receive engineering training to get employed as one? Nothing indicates anything regarding previous training, scholarship etc, only that she was a slave and now she's in a debt because she got pulled out of a shithole by a Contracter. Maybe a bit of expansion your backstory would be better. So finally, I can't give you a +1. BUT I won't -1 you either. If you could expand a little more on your backstory that'd make it seem more legitimate for her to be hired to work on the Exodus then I suppose I could +1 it.
  15. Okay. So here is what I've gathered. The most biggest complaint about Cadmus that reappears from most complaintants appear to be his vulgar, aggressive attitude. Understandable. Whether this is part of their original personality or not, it wouldn't make sense for NT to deploy a Cyborg unit who demoralizes the crew by insulting and bullying (in some degree) other crew members even IF you can tell it to stop doing so. Borgs are meannt to give a helpful feeling and show the crew they are willing to help when asked. Regarding the clone pod construction. Research borgs are allowed to know how certain devices (Such as the extra cloning pod) they are to be constructed and can, with this information, instruct engineers/scientists (with construction knowledge) how to construct these complex machinery. This also counts for Chemistry knowledge. However, as I've stated before previously, should a Research borg work in Medbay's chemistry lab on it's own accord/ Attempt to provide a degree medical treatment/ Work on a secondary cloning pod without futher orders/approval? No, it shouldn't under any circumstances. When they install a module, they are expected to remain their work within their assigned department UNLESS they have been ordered/summoned by Command/AI to dispatch to another location to provide the needed assistance. So to keep this short. Cadmus needs to tone down it's quirks a little. As logs prove, that is not the way a Cyborg should react when somebody yells out crisis. Also Vera, make sure Cadmus as a borg sticks with their department unless ordered to come. And another note, NT nor the Exodus are looking for a literal Asshole borg to walk around and demoralize crew. A demoralized crew effects productivity from a realistic perspective.
  16. Was still reading most of the extra replies while writing that message. Anyway, I'd like another reply from the accused in question before a verdict will be made.
  17. Holy Christ, those are alot of replies coming from one person. Anyway. I'd like to point that while from a IC perspective, it's great to have somebody fill in the chemistry fridge from an IC perspective, I personally do not approve of this myself when it's done by characters who either lack supporting records or with Cadmus case, shouldn't be inside at all unless given clearance/permission by the CMO or Captain (Which I seem to have forgotten to add to my previous reply.). Replying to your long anecdote, I do have experience with Medbay lacking a chemist. We were able to cope with it just fine, luckily for the patients. . Secondly, the construction of the secondary pod fell under the Not meddling with other departments unless requested/Demanded/ordered which I already stated and expanded on in my reply. And finally, when I was asking for examples about Cadmus, I was asking for; I am yet to receive these and it would be appreciated if examples would be posted anytime soon.
  18. Alright then, let's take all things in account here. The most frequent complaints appearing on this thread seem to be Cadmus' constant swearing an general anti-social behaviour. I see prepared arguments such as "You can simply tell them to stop", Executive orders etc. But the thing is that borgs in general are not expected to behave in such vulgar ways. Borgs units are trusted by the crew to futfill their tasks and to ensure productivity. How does a borg swearing suddenly affects productivity? The answer may surprise you but it does to a little. Nobody wants to hang around with a swearing Machine, it's annoying and let's be honest, it's getting old real fast. Then there is Cadmus "Multi-jobbing". I'll be honest, when I play as a CMO and have Cadmus stock up my chemistry fridge DESPITE being a Research borg feels like a gift from heaven. I see where people see the powergaming in this, but there are quite some counter argument that supports their reason to work in Chemistry. While I do say Cadmus should NOT come on their own accord to mix medicine in Chemistry, there is no further case of powergaming. Why, would you ask? Because Research borgs should be familiar with Chemistry as the Research outpost has its own dispenser and Chemmaster where it can work. The Research borgs are also equipped with tools that help *hold* items such as beakers. They have the tools, it's part of their department in some degree, so it's fine they know chemistry. BUT should they come all the way from the Research department to Chemistry on their own accord without any demand or request whatsoever? No, they should only appear when summoned. When it comes to operating the Cloning lab, it's fine because Cloning is technically a part of Genetics and genetics is both Medical AND Research. But just as I listed down with the Chemistry incident, he should NOT appear unless ordered/requested and he should not engage patients in Medical treatment as that is not his duty. The complaints regarding Cadmus involving himself in incidents where he has no connection to whatsoever are to vague. Examples would be appreciated at most. Now finally, I'd like to tell you, Veradox, to tone down Cadmus. You're a capable, if not, GOOD Roleplayer and your characters were great. Cadmus honestly seems like a dumb down of your quality, which is a shame. I do not make the final decision, but my verdict has an impact on where this complaint can go. Which is why I'm telling you to be more careful with Cadmus and his behaviour. Cadmus was a funny borg the first few times, now he is starting to look like BLANK-BOT V2 and that's not a good thing.
  19. I'm surprised Cake has never gotten recruited or anything. I mean, this guy almost seems like the ideal player to me. Would definitely love to see him as part of the staff; I honestly hope you get the trial, here is a Mobile Suit who would love to wish you good luck;
  20. BYOND Key: Ricky madenson Character Names: Shane Halevy, Curel Wald (And many others who I rarely play) Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Dark-Green Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Multiple times Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: After reading the Unathi lore multiple times, I can't help to feel but become a part of this in some way. And what else would be a better way than actually being one! Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Unathi's mannerisms remind me of past Feudal systems we used to have on Earth, the longest and most recent one who used to have would be Feudal Japan (no weeb things intended.). Everyone represents their clan. Everyone is expected to futfill a certain role in honour of their clan. That is something we rarely find in Humanity of today (or the 25th Century.) Character Name: Sa'vare Umonga Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs What do you like about this character? He's fairly old and traditional, (with little change allowed). While he signed the Loyalty Pledge with relunctance, it doesn't stop him from honouring his clan by doing his job with efficiency. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I think I'd give myself a 7/10? I'm not so good with rating myself. Notes: Please provide as much feedback as possible! Both negative and positive are nice!
  21. This is the prime example as to what I've based my final decision on. Like it or not, there is a thing such as the fight-or-flight mechanism. Whereas flight OR surrender becomes the most chosen option when things seem less in their favour and FIGHT when ,of course, the opposite. Now let's apply this logic to the situation where in Bedshaped's character was when he found that hideout, including the officer and ends up getting stunned by mentioned officer. Despite this officer "helping" him up, he was unsure of what was next and his chances were 50-50 as to if he would end up dead or not. Luckily, armor and the complaintant being distracted/not holding them at gunpoint he took his chance to ESCAPE. Going for the option "meh, I'll just sit here and fuck it" when you literally have the opportunity to get out there in a short span of time isn't only unrealistic, but also just turning antag into easy mode. Providing antagonists the option to complete a certain task is fine, to a degree. Don't assume that everybody is willingfully to cooperate when they are put in a potentionally hazardous situation such as a kidnapping or hostage taking, because That doesn't make sense, period. People are people and they don't like being held captive. His "hostagee" was given the opportunity to escape, and they did. Of course it is to expect that they WILL notify security or call for help. This is not a case of a hostagee doing it wrong. This is a case of a hostage taker playing it wrong and being ill-prepared.
  22. It's nice you bring up the the other two arguments as they clear off previously stated arguments of mine. If that is true about the engineering borg, then they could be questioned about it to. However, complaint was directed to you and as such the investigation revolved around you in particulair. I've already listed the reasons as to how things could have gone differently and once again due to poor choice, you are still held accountable for a degree of gank and so I believe the verdict is still just.
