1. I'm expecting roughly three applications, though I'm not going to ever "close" the applications, so I'm hoping more will trickle in over time. To be honest, I would actually be surprised if someone put a few hours of work into writing a three page essay and didn't write one good enough to get accepted. Anyone who would be denied would just have it explained to them why, but I sincerely doubt anyone would fall below standards if they went earnestly went through the effort in the first place. As far as people who would be deterred by timidity, they probably wouldn't be good fits for the team. We practically attack each other in lore dev chats, and every once in awhile we have to plant our feet firmly on the ground and make mountains out of mole hills, and have a good old fashion screaming match about how XYZ is ruining our lore or is a bad idea. So, some courage is preferred.
2. I frequently expressed dissatisfaction with a fellow lore dev about how light the lore dev applications are. As I said here, they seem about as easy as whitelist applications except with a popularity contest embedded in. 3 page essays are definitely not the obvious norm, but a lot of lore pages that I have written are roughly that size. It is a really high bar for quality control, but a high bar is exactly what I want to set. Originally I didn't plan on opening up a deputy at all, saying "But If I ever did open up a deputy position, I would make applicants write an essay." And well... The way I see it is that a deputy would be a luxury rather than a necessity, though if some players prove themselves, they're essentially being chosen to be groomed as possible successors, and I want only the best for this. I'm looking to see passion and determination as well as skill and understanding, and I think this is the perfect way to see as clearly as possible the whole extent of one's ability and understanding. I guess I should clarify what I'm looking for exactly though. I'm pretty much looking for someone to write lore- whatever they want so long as it fits in with already established lore- who just runs it by me before posting it up. The plan is to at least double the output of the lore, more if several applicants make strong enough essays to satisfy me. The system I'm planning is that deputies write content, I quality check it to make sure it doesn't contradict anything written or that I'm currently writing/planning, I correct as necessary, then they those post wiki pages/wiki edits/wiki updates/news articles etc. In addition, I would also be keeping them up to speed with the updates and new lore that I'll be rolling out, letting them quality check me, and prying for feedback from them in addition to providing feedback on their work. I guess I'm hoping to make my own mini lore team, but I want it to be a team where I can be 100% confident they love Aurora's Tajara lore as much as I do.
3. Hello everyone! After sitting on it for awhile and watching from afar how deputies have served the other lore devs, with mixed results ranging from inactive to quality, I have decided to open Tajara lore deputy applications. But I'm not really interested in seeing a lore developer application. I think, as it currently stands, the lore developer application format mostly works like a whitelist application of sorts, it gives some basics but it can be guessed through somewhat easily. So, although it started out as a joke between friends, I realistically came to one conclusion about an application format which would let me determine an applicants' writing skills, level of interest, understanding, and commitment. An essay. The formatting is that it must be three pages long, 12 pt font, single or double spaced, depending on how much content you want to fit in. Any font type is welcome so long as the essay is in English and is legible (no wingdings, please. Comic sans acceptable if you really have to.) Prompt: ANYTHING TAJARA LORE RELATED. What do you like about the Tajara and why? Who do you think will win the war and why? What would be something intensive that you would canonize, but would also fit in with the current lore? What do you not like about the lore and why? A news article or arc of news articles. Anything. Your essay should be coherent and follow one subject the whole way through, don't make it a piecemeal of the suggestions above. This is a test of writing abilities as well as lore understanding. If you decide to pick things you like, circlejerking lists for three pages will be denied. Same with dislike, demonstrating a deeper understanding of the lore which is great enough to be an actual developer for the lore is essential for anyone who would be my deputy, and therefore, possible replacement if I ever phase out of the community. Essays can be sent to me over Discord (@Mofo1995#5526) or email (TScottM95@gmail.com) if you want it private for containing potential spoilers, or in this thread as a post if all are welcome to 'mire. Google docs welcome. I will be accepting as many applicants as I feel pass the essay prompt, so there's a minimum of 0 and only a theoretical maximum. If I feel no one is good enough, I will keep applications open but the spots vacant.
4. Maybe we could grow it into sort of like a Deep Space 9? Except without being owned and run by the military and still just our command? I dunno, I like the idea of growing it to be more open to more than just highly paid professionals. I feel like we can really broaden our horizons for RP if it acts as a hub of sorts for various visitors in a more official capacity instead of visitors being theoretically bizarre. At any rate, I like the suggestion and I think a more public surface level worth visiting by attractions like a store would be cool.
5. All righty, I'll be here.
6. PRA Tortures Prisoners for Parade The day is the 3.4.2460 and the sanctity of celebrating the day of victory against the old order has been defiled by the Njadrasanukii regime. Army Intelligence has released footage of People's Republic preparations for the yearly parade- attached to this message. Republican officers, low on Tajarapower and soon to be ended by our final victory, have dragged Zhan-Khazan prisoners out of their cells and put them in uniform. In the videos, which show the prisoners being forced out of their cells and a practice march, Njarir-Ahkran officers can be seen pulling prisoners out of formation and viciously beating them with stun batons. The abusive officers berated them with phrases such as, "That will teach you to keep in step, mountain dweller," and "learn to hold that rifle right or he'll load it and shoot you." Many of the victims are likely prisoners by the divisive racial policies of the People's Republic, at least five have been identified as our fighters who have been captured. One prisoner, his snout broken and teeth lost, cried for his mother. This is what the Liberation Army stands against. The new imperialists who pervert Rhagrrhuzau's legacy have to be stopped. The crimes against Tajara which they lightly conduct is no different from the monarchists we cast off thirty years ago. Al-Mari Hadii would never have accepted this, and the dishonor to the Tajaran people is unforgivable. Tajara must stand together, shoulder to shoulder, brother and sister, against the evil oppression of the human puppet government. All citizens of the Democratic People's Republic are encouraged to celebrate the day of victory over Monarchy and tyranny, and with hope to look forward to a new victory day against the Hadii's Republic of Adhomai. 1.1.1|T 2.1.2|3.1.2|4.3.6|5.3.4|6.4.7|7.4.5 This video is unavailable in your country.
7. There's kind of a fatal flaw in your application which leads me to believe you don't understand the current geopolitical situation, the causes of the current war, and its background. It's fine that you haven't written yet another war drama, but I'm going to give you about three days and some time to reflect and really try to dig up the glaring issue.
8. It's alllllllllllll right. Nothing terribly fantastic. I feel like the criticisms brought up by Coalf were only really addressed on a surface level. The money issue was addressed, but seeing that you didn't know Tajaran cities was kind of disheartening, since the lore (mostly articles) is pretty thoroughly laced with discussion on various cities, and on the main Tajara lore page there's even a map with all the major cities on Adhomai. Applicants being responsible for knowing the content of the Tajara page (though the other pages are all fluff and not required). Another thing which I find disconcerting is that there doesn't appear to be an understanding of the current situation on Adhomai. There's a reference to the assassination of a major political figure and an accurate representation of seizing property, but you keep talking about nobility. You understand there's a war going on, but you don't seem to understand the circumstances. How old is your character exactly?
9. I'm reviewing this tonight
10. I'm still not really a big fan of the character. It just doesn't really resonate or jive with me. But it does show a good understanding of the lore and is a clear large improvement over your previous application. I'm notably disappointed that no one provided any feedback though. Everything I wanted to discuss about it has already been discussed in PMs and while the phrase "folk hero" triggers me, the scale of local I suppose is small enough to be passable. So long as he doesnt try to claim to be the hero of Dymtris or something of large scale. Application accepted.
11. Hi there, Mofo1995 here. I had some issues and concerns that I wanted to raise regarding, primarily, the proposed changes to Dionaea lore. I will start with a summary of my complaints before launching into a more detailed explanation of my opinions. I think the suggested changes seem to really change the Dionaea into annoying Mary Sues, all the while paradoxically stripping them of their beautiful concept and originality. That's really the meat of my complaint, so I'll take it step by step to compare and contrast with the current canon. The Overview section: This overview is far less descriptive than the current overview. The current one launches into some important information, such as how an individual nymph is just considered and animal and carries only the legal rights an animal would have, words for singular diona, plural dionae, and plural gestalts Dionaea, a quick rundown on diet and biology, and a description of their learning process. It's very informative and doesn't have any redundant or useless information. This one however is very short, and uses far too much reverence when describing dionaea. The largest style problem of the current Dionaea wiki page is how choppy Sleepy and Hurtz's sentence structures were, but this seems to exacerbate the problem with run on sentences with far too many prepositional phrases and even a semi colon. The idea that it posits that all nymphs within a gestalt share the same thoughts and intentions is also contradictory to the lore you wrote later, as you changed a gestalt from a harmonious entity to a democracy of individual nymphs with their own thoughts and feelings in your rewrite. Saying they all work together towards a greater purpose just winds back to how I feel that this overview discusses Diona with too much reverence, same with using the phrase "Mythological-like." While the current wiki is honest about how the larger forms of Dionaea appear in a vague Skrell mythology, it doesn't really reinforce the idea that they really are mysteriously mythological. The biology section: This is comparing technobabble to technobabble. As it stands, I prefer the current standing technobabble, or really biosci-fi-babble to this strand of bio-sci-fi-babble. From writer to writer I feel that putting the plural Dionaea into the biology section into the overview is a downgrade and makes it harder to find, and I could criticize how the form "Dionae" is removed completely. Now one change which I didn't like was that it removes the spacial potential for Dionaea. How can there be space-faring satellites of our bushwalking monstrosities if they cannot reproduce in space at all? The idea of being mysterious floating space hive minds is much more interesting, but you kept those large forms canon while also removing the only perceivable way that they could grow. Do these forms take shape on a planet and then somehow take off to space? I understand that space is supposed to be without any biomass or nutrients, but you have to remember we have space faring lifeforms in our setting that are relatively common. These range from space bears to space carp. Campy and unrealistic though it is, Dionaea could easily have a form of biomatter in space. There's also consistent references to a planet and to having natural predators... but what planet? And what predators? The age, reproduction, and early life section: Okay so let's talk about what this changes about Diona lore. First thing's first: It adds a life span. Second: It changes Dionae to be some forest dwelling creature with natural predators that snack on them. Second, it adds divorce, as apparently instead of being a harmonious collective of lifeforms with a singular will, they get into arguments and break up after 300. Third, it uses "this feat" as the opening to a sentence three sentences in a row. Now, I would argue that the fact that Dionaea could go on forever and be an ancient tree being is way more interesting than deteriorating and dying off eventually. They alone held the aesthetic of being a purely biological being with functional immortality, whereas Vaurcae had VR hiveminds and synthetics can just get new hardware. It really removes a unique aspect from them. Also, by giving each individual nymph agency instead of having a truly merged being... I don't know. I really hate it. The peaceful gestalt of nymphs all becoming one that is also many was always kind of beautiful to me. I feel like this trashes that, especially when it comes to them being able to argue with each other within the gestalt so much that they break up and die. The sentience and intelligence section: This section really jumps the shark to me. Before a nymph had the intelligence of a "very young child", but this wants me to believe that a newborn can be as intelligent as a fully grown adult after a couple hours. In addition to retconning out that nymphs are considered nothing more than animals (or at least removing mention of it) this would lead everyone to believe that the blood sucking killer Dionae are people too. Changing the species from a unified mind to multiple personality disorder and then having each individual in that multiple personality have absurd intelligence levels even from being hours old is just... bad. It removes the core aesthetic of the Diona while making them smug genius intellectuals. Then it takes the gestalt and makes it a super duper ultra genius, and I just can't help but hate it. Before, a gestalt was on par with a smart human or an educated skrell. But now the combined intelligence of 2 to 8 rick and morty fans? Also, "mental stress, poor mental health, lack of blood circulation, and conflicting accounts of data." The first two... fine. A gestalt is, for all intents and purposes, a person. But conflicting accounts of data? Once again, I really don't like the idea that east Nymph, despite being gestalted together, retains individuality. Harmonious collective peacetrees is a far stronger aesthetic, not Voltron of nymphs. Learning section: So, as the current canon goes, the learning potential of some gestalted dionae was inversely proportional to the intelligence of that group of dionae. So a single nymph wasn't very intelligent and couldn't hold much information, but it could pick up on things very quickly. But massive colussus and shells instead held onto tremendous amounts of information but were slow to learn new things. This kind of axes that by just making all dionae learn pretty much instantly in addition to being able to know ridiculous amounts of information on hand. It feels like it removes balance from the force. Joining and Splitting section: I don't like this at all. I would cut the whole thing. Again, I just really personally don't like the new plan to change the Dionaea into a bunch of kids standing on each other's shoulders wearing a coat. Though really it's a bunch of small fully grown adults rooming together in one body. The whole vibe I get here is that gestalts are, well you say it, marriage. Adding analogues to things like marriage, dating, and divorce to Dionaea rips their originality right from them and makes me think of them as a bunch of small vampiric humans who can form Voltron rather than the bizarre and alien plant-like lifeforms they currently are. I mean this even goes as far as them all up and dying if they argue over what the name of their mecha should be, and even go as far as to form a social hierarchy within the gestalt, which again they can up and die if they don't like the vote for head nymph. With this, they're just no longer the ominous and powerful space lifeforms, and are now just a bunch of petty bickering trivial little humans. Classifications section: Worker criticism: "Most Safest" lmao Colossus criticism: "These gestalts are very rare, incredibly intelligent, and are only usually seen locked away in hidden Skrellian research facilities for study and computing power." is far weaker when compared to: "A rare form, the Diona Colossus is a large network - often upward of a dozen - of nymphs inter-connected, forming a veritable physical and information net. The Skrell are looking into inducing this form and using it as a controlled organic processor for facilities. Very high intelligence, low learning potential." It's way less descriptive, and while saying something like being locked away and hidden by Skrell captures Skrell pretty well, it removes the idea that it's more difficult for them to chew on more intellectual material despite having a vast pool of knowledge and processing power. It also removes makes vague the idea that Skrell are trying to make biological computers as a competition to synthetic AI, which they are naturally opposed to. Overall cheapens the theme of Skrell and Dionaea as an axis of biology as a riot against the cosmos. Shell Criticism: "Shell Gestalts are incredibly rare 100+ nymphs, taking the form of large, stationary structures. They are usually found in places with constant light, such as derelict ships, planets with almost constant sun and radiation exposure, or orbiting planet-less stars. These forms are hyper intelligent and have the potential knowledge of 10,000-100,000 years of recorded time." All around, far less interesting than "An even rarer form, a Diona Shell is a large-scale structure - the ones found were made of more than hundreds of nymphs - exhibiting advanced intelligence and isolationist tendencies. One particular example was found growing around a derelict space station - it is also believed that the "Organic Craft" that attached itself to the human cruiser reached at least this state. Extreme intelligence, assumed low learning potential." One theme which the current lore reinforces a bit is that the more out of hand intelligent dionaea become, the more insular they also become. Afterall, if these hyper intelligent super beings were proactive and intervened elsewhere... wouldn't it cause massive issues in the setting? What's to stop a satellite or a shell from dropping bombs of secrets about the universe on humans and skrell and what not? Imagine the destruction it could cause to hand over a bunch of high tech level ideas to your local Jargon Federation, upsetting the balance of power in the galaxy as the technological edge dramatically outpaces the Alliance's numerical superiority. The current lore's isolationist and reclusive tendencies of the most advanced forms makes for better prose, as the reader is left to wonder what sort of exceptional truths they've become enlightened about that causes them to actively seek becoming a passive force in the galaxy, and why the satellite gestalts are so reticent to even reciprocate a hello to anyone knocking on their door. As far as the rest, I'm supposed to believe that satellites, which are a giant living organism, have their own biological nuclear reactor contained within? Or rather, that they break the law of the conservation of energy by just emitting on themselves from within the gestalt to grow from nothing? Let's stick with sunlight. Now as far as the singularity goes, I feel like we've removed a lot of cool style from it and added some more "look how absurdly smart they are!" The way the current lore is, a form of this nature would be killed on sight by the Jargon Federation for the threat it poses to the galaxy. You see, as it currently stands, the Skrell are afraid that something of this nature could be just as intelligent and destructive as Glorsh-Omega, which was an AI that spanned a multi-solar empire. But it didn't have something which made me cringe such as "able to track every single atom in the entire universe from birth to heat death." Plus, I don't like how it takes the theoretical nature of it and goes hyperbolic by making it impossible to ever actually form, requiring all nymphs that will ever exist to be formed. It removes the real and tangible threat, while also stepping up its power level to an absurd size. I'm skipping the further merging section. While it adds a nice balance to why all Dionaea don't just come together (other than the threat of being slain by the Skrell) it still relies on the whole head nymph idea, which I've already expressed my disdain for. Culture and Personality section: I would be disgusted to see a Tajaran personality and cultured Dionaea. And well, really, this just goes on to further remove Dionaea from their current unique standing. This is just literally giving them a free pass to just be human. Because any diona player could just say they absorbed blood from humans and therefore could act exactly like a human in every way. Also, the idea that there are just criminal nymphs leading lives as thieves spies and smugglers is just painful. There were already serious issues in the past of nymph players going way too far with self antagging, and with Nanakode giving nymphs the ability to stone cold kill people just by taking a sip of their blood, this is a very poor mixture that I don't want to see come to fruition. I've already said it and I will continue to maintain it, I would seriously prefer if we kept the current canon of nymphs having only the intelligence of a very young child. The idea that they also just frequently fail to register that others can feel pain only further reinforces the license to self antag. Family and relationships: I don't like the family aesthetic. I'd rather family be an alien concept to Dionaea. I mean, they're weird plant-like things that form collective hiveminds. Something like children, siblings, parents, etc just fits very poorly and shouldn't be a concept native to themselves. I'm fine with them befriending other things or even making enemies out of other things. That aspect doesn't really affect the current lore at all. Self-Identity: This is painful. Keep Dionaea completely neutral. Something like the concept of gender should be completely far removed from the Dionaea. Once again this strongly humanizes the Diona and by removing the pronoun construct of saying "we" and just letting them talk like normal humans and saying "I" just negates one of the few verbal and noticeable differences between Dionaea and... again... humans. With this proposed rewrite, it would be entirely possible to just make a Diona that's a human in every way, from culture to gender to sentence structure, with the only difference being biological form. I don't have much to say about the language section, other than "To them, hearing ceti basic is similar to hearing at toddler smash random keys on a piano." is a very poor simile for a wiki page. It just doesn't feel like it fits in with the informative tone the rest of the wiki strives for. EDIT: I do not support this application for Diona species dev.
12. You misunderstood, the current wording is that so long as RD signs off on an equipment requisition form you can take anything out into the wild. Now there are other IC rules which put limits on this, namely regulations on contraband. As it current stands though, you can go get a weapons permit signed by an HoS and then get am equipment req signed by RD, and then bam. You can carry your (recently pinned) gat around.
13. Keep pockets sacred. I've always looked at it as antags having the inherent skill to perform the appropriate slight of hand check to sneak something into their pockets quickly, I don't think that's too unreasonable.
14. Loow Shit: I have to say that I'm genuinely surprised no one brought this up until just now. I agree that the Royal Telgraph, ironic considering it's a news channel of my creation, is criminally under-loved by me. There's a lot of tension between the civil administration factions (nobles in parliament) which think upholing rule of law and the constitution is where importance should be weighted, and the militarist faction (nobles in the military) which think that being as successful as possible in the war effort is what the scales should find more valuable. King Azunja and Field-Marshal Akhan have been at the top trying to reconcile the two factions. But things might get more interesting now that many former parliamentarians were slain and there has been mass recalls of officers from the frontlines who have now inherited legislative powers. Calion Shit: I didn't even realize there were any actually loyal ALA cats on station. In the works is a reformatting of the Adhomai Liberation from a rebel guerilla media where orders are given to a full news station. I think this would be the most efficient way to create a vessel through which I can provide news and information on the Democratic People's Republic of Adhomai. Jackboot Shit: Far right wing jingoist populism infused with theological justifications does sound evil to most people. I often hope that it makes people scratch their heads and consider if Mass politics is really what's best for Tajara, or if some more "advanced" and "civil" nations can swoop down and "culture" them. But you're right in that everything shouldn't appear black and white, and I definitely haven't intended to make it appear that way, so I'll have to get crackin to fix the one-sidedness of the PRA seeming to have the moral high ground. Tomiix shit: There are nuggets of lore on the Tajara military structures page, but I would consider knowledge of that page to be not required and esoteric to the average player. But I can actually answer this question pretty straight-forwardly now and just write wiki lore for it later, since I've always felt that the relationship between commoners, nobility, and the king always needed clarification. So I'll spoil the upcoming lore right here and hopefully the spurred discussion will have more people coming in to give me feedback about overall Tajara lore. So what's the deal with the NKA's social structure? Well first we need to start with the king. Much like the monarchies of old, power and jurisprudence de jure flows from the king who acts as the head of the judicial systems and as the executive system, so sort of like if the US Supreme court and the US President were all rolled into one person who held it for life and passed it on to his heir. The legislature is where it gets different. It's a single house, so there's no house of lord or house of commons or house of reps and senate, it's just one legislative body. Now, this is where there's only been slight hints where explanation is easily needed. Positions in Parliament are inherited rather than voted on. When the NKA was founded the loyal revolutionaries who made it happen and who got them their early successes were essentially Azunja's clique, and were given these positions as more or less rewards. The commoners were largely fine with this since Azunja's Kari'mah dynasty of the Kingdom of Kaltir were capable and benevolent rulers, so they trusted the king with this one. The reason the recent constitutional crisis lasted so long was because everyone was trying to snatch one of these coveted positions. So what about the rest of the nobility? Anyone who is a noble has sections of land where they are assigned to administrate and operate. It works on multiple different levels, similar to the feudal system. So the nesting doll goes like this: The King is at the top, then the grand dukes (which the king is also one of) then the dukes and marquis, and some more powerful counts, then the rest of the counts, then barons. Scattered throughout all of these various tiers are various princes-- not necessarily relatives of the Kari'mah dynasty mind you, as the title can be granted too, but seeing as though it doesn't correlate to the amount of land or wealth someone has, it's a grab bag. Where it differs from the feudal system is that it isn't a chain of tax collection where the bottom nobles collect taxes and then pay their taxes and so forth all the way to the top where the king reaps the big benefits. Instead, all taxes are collected directly by the crown and all nobles who take part in any civil administration or military service duties are paid salaries depending on position and rank. All of age Tajaran nobles have to serve in some way shape or form, whether it be as bureaucrats, police chiefs, officers, or adjutants, with the only exception being members of parliament who have the job of, well, legislature. Special allowances are made for nobles who run companies, business, and enterprises. So if you own a large factory and employ tons of commoners and create wealth for the Kingdom's economy, you'll get a far smaller salary but you do get to avoid service so long as you are active in the management of the business. Most nobles however run agrarian operations which the government makes it nearly impossible to claim as a venture which demands intricate managerial attention, so all of the biggest land owners of the nobility fall into the category of needing to serve in government since they're also the ones who minmaxed agricultural enterprise. The difficulty with this system largely comes with the duties of the children of high ranking nobles and their pretenders. Rather than every child of, say, a count also being a count, they have to inherit the title on either the retirement or death of their relative. All nobles who do not currently personally own land or businesses or a title default to a sort of class which is obligated to serve in some way as part of the service gentry. So this forms a corps of petty nobles who serve the various middle-class tasks of the nation from being on school boards, to being the low class officers in the various military branches. If there isn't a need for them at the moment, they're with no duties at all, but also with no salary, so essentially a commoner except they can be pressed into the service gentry if needs arise. Nobles who don't have an active obligation often operate their family business ventures, managing farms, being the foremen at factories, getting educated and doing architecture or medicine, whatever floats their boat. A common family strategy is for a "titled" noble, which is someone with actual rank, to retire when they aren't able to perform their duties anymore and collect a government pension for their service. They then pass on their duties to their heir who would've been a petty noble for awhile to let them go handle the duties while they live out their retirement operating family businesses. So one aspect of society is that there are a lot of pensioned petty noble patriarchs and matriarchs behind the scenes who technically retired from their titled noble positions, but really run the scenes of the various more powerful families. Okay, what about the commoners? Well, at the moment, in addition to the service gentry, every commoner family is obligated to provide one able-bodied adult to military service. But the whole upside to being a commoner is that, aside from the current conscription which is going on for the war, there is no obligation to perform any public service. There is no (legal) slavery on Adhomai, unless you're the kind who thinks having to pay for food and housing is slavery. A commoner can do just about anything they want so long as they can afford it, but most can't. A lot of the wealthier business owners at the time of the new kingdom's founding were also appointed to nobility positions, and those who were loyal to the PRA had their assets seized and handed over to the newer nobles. So most commoners aren't business owners and instead resort to working for some business owner somewhere, usually a noble family. But they're aren't restricted from the public sector, and most doctors, police officers, professors, artists, actors, teachers, etc are commoners. Some of them are fortunate enough to scrape out a living for themselves and form small businesses, but as has already been stated in the lore, pretty much the whole new kingdom- nobles and government included- are broke. Just about everyone is in a lot of debt, and the only reliable surviving banking institution is the government itself which gives out various loans to the people and the nobility. One feature of the Kingdom's constitution is that it features purchasing titles of nobility. Although this feature is dusty and has hardly been used since the Kingdom's first year or two, if a commoner makes enough money they can actually purchase their way into nobility. The cheapest option being the untitled noble, and the highest buyable position being a baron. Anything higher than that requires a census of the crown to determine that a noble has enough land under them to justify being appointed a count who administrates all of it. But the Kingdom has yet to have even a single census, and the constitution just says that a census begins when Parliament submits a request for a census to the King, and after determining the feasibility and necessity for it, the King can then approve it and carry it out.
15. I don't know how to start polls. Recently when talking to Jackboot I was presented with the idea that players might want some "slice of life" articles in addition to the various political news and war reports. So this got me thinking, what is everyone's favorite faction? I'm set in how I'm going to progress the macroscopic lore, but I'm wondering which faction players want to see more lore and articles form about their day to day average life.
16. Applicant never responded. Application Denied.
17. Parliament Reconvenes 26.01.2460 Following exactly one year of constitutional absolute monarchy, Parliament has reconvened. The year of 2459 will be remembered as a year of legal trouble as hundreds of noble families and their pretenders fought for the succession privileges of their fallen. Exercising his powers as chief legislator and supreme judge, the King and his office personally settled many disputes and delivered appropriate punishments to false pretenders. Various criminal plots ranging from falsifying documents to assassination of family members threatened to bring the Kingdom to civil war. The Office of the King still estimates that there are currently one thousand warrants out for the arrests of various individuals involved with the aforementioned plots. At the first meeting of Parliament on the anniversary of its bombing, the new legislators passed a bill which established the Crown Fund for Victims of Organized Civil Violence, a fund which lends financial aid to families who survive victims of terror. The new law was heavily praised by representatives from Amohda, a province of the Kingdom which has been heavily subject to the acts of terrorism. Administrators from the Office of the Treasury were quick to offer criticism, citing the the current strain of taxes and debts which the Crown has taken upon itself so far. However, the King quenched these criticisms by personally donating a quarter of his personal wealth to meet the fund's starting requirement, as well as to hold an annual charity dinner on the anniversary of the bombing to maintain it. The first of these charity dinners is expected to be held next week. The composition of the new parliament has worried some, namely survivors of parliamentary factions which called for enhanced democracy in the Kingdom. Nobles such as Baron Rrlajir Chalnik pointed out that an overwhelming majority of Parliament were royalists and proponents of a stronger monarchy. Current estimates claim that about 73% of Parliamentarians are more loyal to the King than to the Kingdom. The King dismissed accusations of corruption by stating, "Many are likely grateful for how I have conducted myself during the year of absolute rule. Many more, likely grateful that the law has settled on their sides during the succession crises. However this must surely be coincidence, and will pass with time as the wills of our nobility will normalize again."
18. Dear diary, Since my last update I have: Revamped my timeline to get rid of a lot of things that were concerning me. There was a lot of tense issues, and the format used to make me want to gouge my eyes out. Now it looks much better, everything is in the right tense, and there's a complete list of events from 2400-2432, as well as from 2457-2460. All that remains to complete are those middle years of 2432-2457 detailing the interwar period and the first years of the second revolution. Link: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Timeline_of_Tajara#The_First_Revolution I removed all instance of the word CLAN from the Tajara main page. I think I've only really talked to Loow about this, but it's always been a massive pet peeve of mine when people talk about their Clan and blah blah blah. As if the Tajara were still some tribal race where everyone is all about their clan. I replaced most of the instances of "Clan" with "Dynasty" to better reflect the context of the case. You wouldn't say that your family is your clan because it sounds weird and silly, but if its nobles we're talking about here, people from the same dynasty are natural allies and worth talking about. I doubt normal average Joe Hharar cares about his seventh cousin twice removed because that's hardly family to him, but with nobility that guy is probably also a noble and probably owns some land an dis probably worth caring about to some extent. So, now we have dynasty instead of Clan. The whole middle names feature has been updated too, the name of the Dynasty which you were bound to was often included in a Tajara's name, and the way this translates to modern Tajara is that the name of the dynasty you serve is sometimes your middle name. This would've been far more prevalent before communists took over the whole planet when taking on human names first became common, but to the modern day it adds an implication that people who do this are a part of the New Kingdom of Adhomai and serve a noble there. Or just *really* fanatic in their support for Hadii.
19. Part Five: Messa's Tears is now up in its entirety! It only took 14 months. Here's hoping with some dedication that the rest of this story can come out in the foreseeable future. At the very least, parts Six and Seven are not very long, but when we reach volume 2, all the parts are really long. So it's still going to be a real challenge.
20. I believe in Tomiix senpai, is always very well mannered and they always seem so level headed. Exactly the kind of person I want handling ahelps and resolving complaints.
21. I have highlighted in red a discrepancy in your application. A skrell's headtails have the same skin as the rest of the skrell, get this different color business outta here. The reason that there is a very slight color change is to make the sprite more pleasing to look at. I took input from some skrell players and worked with them to develop a good color set. It isn't too obvious in game, but side by side the difference is noticeable and the slightly darker head tails look much nicer. I still don't like it. Ok, so the main focus of the work was genetics. That's the most obvious path in order to try and cure the species wide sterilization that the Skrell have going on. They're not a fully fledged virologist by any stretch of the imagination, they just know the theory behind attaching shit to a virus and setting it loose in the body to change genes, which has a foot firmly planted in the science of today. The idea of using chemistry came from the notion of "Well nobody's really tried this before because they're all focused on established methods, lets try something new." I getcha, one of the strengths of Skrell is that unlike other races they're more able to work multiple high difficulty jobs at once. The app was already pretty long so I did need to cut out some bits, or just leave them as they were. The chemistry classes were separate from the Weishii stuff, so learning still happened in class, there was just some extra shit tacked on that Xerei thought could be spent doing other shit. Once she finally graduated she realised that she still learnt shit from this professor, even if she thought the Weishii was bullshit. Which links into the partial agreement and partial name taking. That's fine, but the original application wasn't very clear on that, it made it seem as though the Weishii stuff had directly contributed some sort of greater knowledge in the field of chemistry and in of itself. I was being flowery with my language when I said epiphany, since the basis for writing a good story is good use of language. But the premise for a lesson learned is still there, the idea that you can still value shit even if you don't like the person that made it. Also, I don't think being taught chemistry and a moral is enough of a reason to marry someone, it seems kind of shallow and short lived. The lesson that you can value something if you don't like the person seems like a non-sequitur here. What is the person and what is the something? We already know she values chemistry, and after awhile she values her professor, and after awhile she values the ceremonies taught by her professor too. The closest combination I can gleam from the story as it is is that you can value a person even if you don't value the things they do, with the person being her professor and the thing being the religion of Weishii. Now, I'm speculating so don't think I'm putting words in your mouth, but is what you mean that the history lessons showed that not all famous scientists were savory people but the work they put out is valuable? Fulfilling the lesson that you can value things even if you don't like the person that made it? On the subject of marraige, it was a "if you like them so much why don't you marry them" joke. And in a lesser sense, a showing of appreciation that you used the Quaalt system in your application. You misunderstand what I said. Proving that there is a basis for a certain technique to be viable avenue in the future isn't me saying "And then Mary Sue solved all the problems of her race". It's saying that a contribution was made towards the progress of the final goal (Which fulfils a character arc), but not enough to be noteworthy or named in lore. What am I, someone that demands my character be placed in the notable persons section of their species lore page? I understand there's an abstraction here between being the person who discovered successful fertility treatments and the person who discovered a building block for these treatments. My issue still remains that I feel as though being someone who discovers a part of the whole is still too important for a race as focused on advancement and growth as the skrell. It would still be a massive and heroic achievement which would place them on an absurdly high pedestal among their skrell peers. I'll glaze over the comment about Mary-Suing the genophage since I've already explained that part of your gripes. After the completion of the master thesis I started to make a soft transition from hardcore scientist into leader position. Once again, the app was already getting long so I might've glazed over some details, but the arc is still there. During work on the thesis Xerei would have presumably overseen a small team in the hardcore research phase, doing some task delegation. When signing on with Nanotrasen she started to slowly step back from being an active scientist to more of a leader. After all, it's generaly expected that heads of staff delegate instead of doing everything themselves. This change in her work would have slowly changed her attitude and manner over the years, leading her towards a more command focused position like captain. Respectable! This was the explanation I wanted, I'm satisfied there. So you'd like to know more about the smaller details of Xerei's life? Well, I suggest that you... Find out ICly. Seriously though, your understanding and comprehension skills go right out the window when you drink. I really suggest being sober when trying to seriously analyse a big block of text. "Find out ICly" is not acceptable here. All we have is Xerei's professional history here, that's great for employment records but who she is as a character is absolutely essential to determining if she's a skrell I think should exist or not. The purposes of a whitelist application are to exhibit understanding of lore and to show everyone a character to see if they want it around. Xerei has almost no personality and other than her quest to undo sterilization being distinctly Skrell in nature, could just as easily be a robot carrying out a straightforward task and then getting re-purposed later. If for whatever reason you wanted her entire personal life obfuscated for some reason by reason of story, then I'm sure you've already cleared it with the lore dev to make sure there was nothing lore breaking or wrong there. But otherwise I see no reason to avoid including something which takes your application and puts it above most others by injecting some serious character into your, well, character.

23. Mofo1995 BTFO, how will he ever recover!?!?
24. I have been drinking much and have decided to review your application due to seeing Loow's posts begging for outside feedback. The time of reckoning has come. Let's get started! I have highlighted in red a discrepancy in your application. A skrell's headtails have the same skin as the rest of the skrell, get this different color business outta here. NORMIES GET OFF MY NO SLIP! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *Mannerisms *Renown *fursuits I'm just glad you didn't include Glorsh and the Era of Synthetic Oppression. While it is obviously a big whoop for Skrell, I feel like it shouldn't fundamentally alter the average skrell as a person, particularly skrell who didn't experience it. The pity party gets old really quickly, and I cringe when situations call for me to RP it. Oh. I want to state right here and now that I had not read your biography before typing the previous line, lmao. I'm just going through typing bit by bit. Previous line not edited because I thought this was so funny, I can't bring myself to edit it. Acceptable. It's a nice echo of how Skrell felt like they were able to really spread their wings and fly again after being grounded for so long. It's really got the right sentiment. I really wish Loow would remove this mass effect meme word from the wiki. Get the krogan outta here. But that's not your fault. So Xerei started off being a geneticist? Then a virologist? Then she felt that chemistry was the means by which she could undo the sterilization of her race? I dunno, the whole skrell desperately trying to find a way to undo Glorsh's work seems cliche. And chemistry just seems to imply physical chemistry to me, I think that maybe saying pharmacy might have been more accurate. I have no idea whatsoever how she gained additional skills or knowledge from weird new religion ceremonies that she wouldn't have gained more of and better from extra studies. Unless Liixanri Kip-Weirun[Tup] is Mr. Miyagi. Did Xerei crane kick her final exam? I feel like this arc could have been executed better. The leap from finding the time spent in class to be dumb to somehow having learnt chemistry from it and valuing it and naming herself after the professor who named himself after Tup is kind of sudden. It's really told and not shown, and I just don't understand how doing ceremonies praising Dmitrii Mendelev can make me a better chemist. The epiphany is still left... nebulous. In my previous line I guess this epiphany is what I'm asking about. There's a lot of talk about some greater enlightenment she came across, but I still don't see it. Also, if she likes him so much why doesn't she become his Quualt'Shriapt, nerd? Yes. Research. I dunno how I feel about someone taking credit for being responsible for modern fertility treatments that allow skrell to have children. It just feels like putting your character at a place that's toooooo important in the setting. After becoming the hero who saved her race from extinction, she was such a great scientist that she was made a captain. I'm just not really feeling it, Xerei just seems too potent and too important and too infallible. Everything just kinda seems to either go right or come as a blessing disguised as a distraction. I mean, the first line did mistakenly set the tone that made me dread it would be a pity story about the evil Glorsh, and I was pleasantly surprised and happy the bio didn't follow that vein, but the character concept just seems one dimensional and hollow. It went on and on until she did something that directly lead to fertility treatment, and then just kind of shoehorned in the circumstances about how she ended up on station and was great at everything. It just seems to lack pizzazz. The only thing we really get about Xerei as a person is that she has a former disliked professor turned close friend and mentor who really wanted skrell to have children. What music does she listen to? What does she like to do for fun? What's her personality like? Why are her headtails mysteriously a different color than the rest of her skin? I've been memeing without really being serious for most of my review, but in all seriousness, I feel like Xerei isn't really described here as a person but as a lifeless emotionless portrayal of a dedicated ideologue. Eweeeeeeeeh. Brrrraaaaaaaagging. Everyone else who provided feedback is a thot :/ "Good RP +1" or "I liked the backstory +1" isn't very helpful. Though I guess it does give context that Ezuo isn't a powergaming chucklefuck or anything zany like that, it clearly describes our boy as a amiable fella. I'm not typing +1 or -1, read the whole post for my opinion, nerds. No tl;dr on this train.
