[Accepted] Goret's Moderator App
Mofo1995 replied to Goret's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I don't have much to say about Goret's moderator capabilities, but I do have to say that I've had strictly nothing but positive experiences with them. In-character they always bring well-rounded and communicative characters to the table with an attitude that promotes the gimmicks of others. Out of character they're consistently friendly and level headed, and I don't think I've ever seen anything such as irritability or aggression. My only concerns are that there seems to be a lack of prior experience with moderation, or did you moderate on G-Mod servers? The answer about moderation experience only says that you haven't with SS13 but other experiences could help shed light on your skills. -

I love the idea, so long as Russian spambots and griefers can't edit my Tajara pages without first having my review. -
in light of the evidence brought forward by this complaint, I will also be reviewing the status of Coalf's Tajara whitelist. You're on thin ice, pal.

[Accepted]Zaeperry99's Skrell application
Mofo1995 replied to Zaeperry99's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
A mistake in proofreading, my bad; the name is Qyrrnyl. Qyrrnyl is male. The total lack of gender pronouns was a (potentially misguided) attempt at showing in the writing itself rather than textdumps / overt recital the concern (or lack thereof) of gender in Skrell society. Looking back on it, that information should've been included in the post-notes as well. Turqlp is his brother, and thus also a male. Though it embarrasses me to say so, I'll need a bit more context or a reference to properly answer this, as in the course scanning over the wiki/forums/lore channel I never saw anything about the current administration being oppressive. And assuming this was a mistype toward the era of Synthetic Oppression (hopefully to no offense!) I'll say that he's quite immensely disgusted from both a broad and personal perspective; He views the loss of life as senseless and tragic, as well as having immense concerns about how well he'll be able to pass along the genes and legacy of both himself and his parents. I'll admit that this is more of an oversight on my part rather than a minor mistake. My research into Xyla came up relatively blank and the cliffs note about cities lying in ruin due to the Glorsh Rebellion didn't quite stick with me as well as I'd have liked it to, at which point I likely should've consulted the lore channel/forums. With the new information provided (Once again, very much appreciated!) I do plan on retconning and editing this bit of the backstory should I need to re-write the application or if the character goes through, though I'll leave it be for archiving's sake at the time being. Even masterpieces can only be watched so many times frame-for-frame before they've been watched effectively to death (Which I will very firmly say Qyrrnyl has done.) I'm a bit disappointed in myself for not elaborating more on hobbies, as it's what makes a character seem fun and enjoyable in my opinion. The first hobby to really come to mind is the formal dance. It's both a mentally and physically active art of a hobby, not to mention dance is the undisputed universal language of expression, and thus crosses the rather tough language barrier. The second more active hobby would be cuisine. Not nearly to a professional level, but rather as a way to turn the obligation of eating into an enjoyable activity. As for less active, more 'lazy' activities - because I'll go out on a limb and assume even Skrell do need something to do before bed - I'll plant Qyrrnyl firmly in preferring cinema to literature, both because of the slightly more relaxing qualities of film and the details one can catch with intense observation. I can definitely work on this and flesh it out, but there's not much I can do in response other than ensuring that, in spite of the emphasis put on it, I do consider it a very momentous occasion and the 'second turning point of his life', a phrase I cut out because I felt it was a bit cheesy. His brother saw and sees relative success in the field of arts of music, though not nearly celebrity status. The two's parents see it as a disappointment, though certainly nothing to separate a family over; more of a dishonorable child than the black-sheep of the family. I like to imagine that though they follow very different fields, the combination of Qyrrnyl's interest in expression through dance and his brother's musical ability does bring them closer together. Both of their parents are still alive and in their respective fields, with his geneticist mother working alongside others to further advance and improve cloning, and his cyberneticist father continuing a less research and more practice-oriented career in replacing and maintaining cybernetics. The two also remain in regular contact with them. This is definitely insubstantial fluff, but it's very wholesome insubstantial fluff I very much like. And lastly, but not leastly! I'm very much hoping the answers provided have helped clear up this feeling! The application was definitely focused much too heavily on his backstory rather than him as a person, and reading back through with the context of the questions I've realized that's a bit of a shame, considering I do like the character I've created in my mind, and could probably spend quite some time talking about him as a person. Once again, you have my immense thanks both for taking the time to really read and analyze the application, as well as giving me quite a bit more to elaborate on, and an excuse to do so. I approve, you didn't even fall for my trap question! +1 -
[Accepted]Zaeperry99's Skrell application
Mofo1995 replied to Zaeperry99's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Is it Qyrrnylt or Qyrrnyl? Is Qyrrnyl a woman or man? Is Turqlp a brother or a sister? One thing that really stuck out to me was that all references to gender were completely removed with everything either worded in the third person or using plural pronouns to avoid giving anyone a gender. "This Skrell" "Qyrrnyl" "they." How does Qyrrnyl feel about the Era of Jrgul Oppression? You reference Xyla as being some beautiful ruins and that's why the name was appended to your character... It was the site of a mass genocide by a cataclysmic event in Skrell history. Elements of which are kind of missing completely in the application. It was refreshing to see an application not focused on it, but, no references at all to it? What does Qyrrnyl do for fun? Does they like to kick back and rewatch Battle for Supreme Mountain? How does they feel about skiing? AUMS is kinda just thrown in there, and pretty unceremoniously too. It's played off more like a shrugged off pleasant surprise rather than being enrolled at one of the most prestigious institutions for medicine in the galaxy. Did Turqlp do anything cool after going off to become a painting artist fashionista? Or did the fam disown him for not going into the sciences? What ever happened to our character's parents? Qyrrnyl just kind of comes off as cardboard. All we know about is their parents' professions and their sibling's professions, and that Qyrrnyl's only personality trait is the joy of learning. I guess there's also a general sense of altruism but nothing really feels characterized here. "Likes to learn and likes to help people" isn't deep. Sure, whitelist applications don't have to be deep or profound, but I don't really see any indicators about how Qyrrnyl will play or why I should like them. -
After a poll with 85 votes, and much discussion, we have decided to move forward with adding restrictions to Tajara in head of staff positions. Starting today, only Hharar and Njarir-Ahkran can be Tajara heads of staff, while M'sai command can only be Head of Security. 75% of voters wanted head of staff positions to be restricted to Hharar and Njarir, with a majority of those wanting restrictions also wanting M'sai to be eligible for Head of Security. The change is happening in lore through an article which will release today. Any Zhan-Khazan or M'sai who were in a head of staff position before today are NOT retroactively targeted by this rule change. They are grandfathered in. Altough the changes are happening in lore, enforcement will be whitelist enforcement rather than through CCIA. Feel free to ask any and all questions to myself or to my deputies, we will be happy to answer!

Freedom is a good idea if we're RPing here. What if my character doesn't know the rules or wants to cheat? If there's a physical board instead of it being electronic (in-game) then why not?

[Accepted] ben10083's CCIA Application
Mofo1995 replied to ben10083's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Before the interview I was kind of on the fence about the application, but now I think that Ben would make a decent addition to our ranks. I don't think he'd be a super-CCIA like the Whiterabit, SierraKomodo, and Synnono's of old (and new), but I think there's potential. The only interview question I objectively took issue with was the contexts where Ben felt it was appropriate for a CCIA to board the station, but as far as things I subjectively took issue with, I was given the impression that he might be more inclined to handle antagonist related faxes in a black or white manner. It's a situation open for any agent's discretion, I just prefer to leave everything grey and ambiguous to the crew so that neither the antagonist nor the crew are given free license to enforce their wills. I see you're worried about trashposting being a problem, and I have to agree that I'm not the model PR agent because of the sheer amount of trashposting that I do, but I think it's not as much of an issue as you believe it to be so long as you keep it out of official staff channels and also don't go over the top in public. I say we give it a whirl. -
Hro'rammhad's Push to the Sea Since the victory east of Shastar, Supreme Commander Halkiikijr Nated'Hakhan has ordered a renewed offensive to drive the vultures of Rhagrrhuzau Hadii's legacy into the Sum'add Ocean. The decisive battle for Das'nrra, and another victory for the Tajaran people, began with the aggressive spearhead of the Hro'rammhad Tank Corps, leading the way for Army Group S'rrendarr. The legendary tank corps with several other armored formations was able to wrap its way around seven armies of the Republican Shastar Front. Afterwards, the shaft of the spearhead collided with the encircled enemies, who surrendered a few days later on 5 July 2460. In the process, our victorious and blessed forces broke a record on Adhomai for the single most prisoners from a military operation, with over a million POWs. The provisional government of the DPRA has already begun construction of over 20 new POW camps to house the prisoners until the war can be brought to an end. The glorious action of the ALA has pushed the enemy Shastar Front into a rendezvous with the Coastal Front, where the dogs of Njadrasanukii entrench themselves in harbor villages and port towns along the sandy beaches. Provisional Minister of Civil Rights, Almrah Harrlala, commented on the situation with "If they do not surrender, she says they can choose where they meet Messa. Either the shores of Das'nrra, or the cold sea." When interviewed, General Hro'rammhad stated, "It is only by the grace of the suns that we were victorious, and only with S'rrendarr's energy that he was able to keep up the dogged offensive. His only regret is that so many Tajara had to die." Liberation Intelligence strongly suggests General Hro'rammhad's legendary reputation for mercy was all that prevented a dire last stand of the encircled Republican Army forces, and was the key factor in their willingness to surrender. As the elections continue on the home front, Provisional Minister of Civil Rights Almrah Harrlala of the National Adhomai Worker's Party has gained in the polls to a projected 34% of the vote, while Interim President Brajrr Alnadruskiy of the Free Tajaran People's Party has only risen to 41% of the vote. 22% of the remaining polled have written in for Supreme Commander Halkiikijr Nated'Hakhan, who is currently not associated with any of the emerging political parties.

[Resolved] Player Complaint - ArmoryBlaine
Mofo1995 replied to CommanderXor's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I don't think Daniel Carmichael is roleplayed as a validhunting killing machine. And as far as salty anger, it seems to be in every direction here. All of my interactions with Daniel have largely played out as a carbon copy of when I play a security officer. He's just patrolling around, he can't get in deep with chair RP at the bar or anything- because he's security on the job. He responds to disturbance calls and handles the situation (me, with my various gambling shenanigans or war PTSD flashbacks across my various chars) and then goes back to patrol. Now there is a major difference in that Daniel can actually robust an antagonist when combat breaks out, and I can't, but the blueprint for professional detachment and being on the job is there. Now it's not like I have had access to security comms any time recently, so I can't really attest to how Daniel might cooperate and work with the rest of the security team and command. Namely, I stopped playing sec because it's a pretty hostile environment for the unrobust as security officers will salt if you easily get robusted, or god forbid, run in fear from situations above and beyond the call of duty. But within the past few weeks I have ventured to play security a scant 3 times or so, and what really stuck out to me was that each of these times Daniel was the only other person in security who was really willing to RP with me in any way at all that wasn't "Let's go get the bad guy" "fuck yeah." The conversations weren't extensive chair RP, but they were pleasant and lead me to believe that Amory's character was a level headed normal guy who was decently sociable. -
Managing Fatigue, or why humans deserve a stamina bar and no one else does.
Mofo1995 replied to Bygonehero's topic in Archive
Tajara are endurance runners but terrible sprinters. The whole idea is that they move quickly by default but if they over-exert themself by trying to sprint, they're going to become all around slower. The idea is that they're just supposed to be quick-walking/slow jogging all over the place because it's natural to them, but actual sprints don't greatly improve their speed, and quickly gives them side stitches. Much like our ancestors in the ice age, they would chase prey for long periods of time across the frozen countryside. But unlike humans, since Adhomai is still far colder than Earth today, their bodies are even more minmaxed into paced out expenditure of energy over bursts of it. How feasible is all of this? I have no clue! I'm largely unlearned in biology, but that's how it was pitched and largely foisted onto me before I was thoroughly talked into it. P.S. I think Tajara being able to gauge their own body limits carefully is kind of important given the circumstances the environmental circumstances they have to survive through on their homeworld. -
[Implemented] Give IAA's Injunction Authority
Mofo1995 replied to Azande's topic in Accepted/Implemented Policy
I'm not speaking as part of a CCIA consensus, but lone-wolfing it here. I already let CCIAB know my suggestion too. I think it should be a 100 (command) form, NFC-117 would be the next in the numbering. I also suggested changing "Order to be enforced" to "Injunction Emplaced". Though maybe that could use some work too. -
Ambush at Sea 24.06.2460 An artist's rendition of a Rredouane class battleship, the class of the battleship with the same name. At 0300 hours on the 22nd of June, long distance naval patrol aircraft over the Sum'add Ocean detected the embarkation of a massive fleet from the ports of Baltor. As of today, the entire fleet has been engaged and defeated by His Majesty's triumphant navy. The fateful two day naval battle began when His Majesty's High Admiralty received by radio the news of the embarked Republican Fleet. Fearing a second amphibious assault north of the Kingdom's settled territory, or the reestablishment of the Tunguska Base, the Admiralty quickly decided to attack. However, the bulk of the Royal Navy remained in port at Miran'mir and Bar'jar. The nearest fleet on the edge of the Ras'val Sea consisted only of an icebreaker Battleship, the HMS Rredouane, a battlecruiser, the HMS Dolor, the heavy cruisers HMS Sarrul and HMS Vrralana, and their destroyer escorts. Weighing the odds, this fleet was ordered full steam ahead on an intercept course with the enemy fleet. Meanwhile the pride of the fleet, the aircraft carrier HMS Mata'ke, got underway along with all available ships to join in a days time. The combat began at 1500 hours of the same day as the HMS Dolor with destroyers in tow rushed to wedge themselves between the opposing fleet and their home port. Land-based hostile aircraft closed in and fired missiles, yet the HMS Dolor's countermeasures were able to thwart the attack, protecting itself and its destroyers. Soon afterwards, a Republican Light Cruiser escort was spotted at the rear of the fleet by Radar and engaged by anti-ship missiles. After three salvos, the first casualties of the battle occurred when a direct hit to the hull of the cruiser greatly damaged it, causing it to sink seven minutes afterwards. Farther west in the ocean, the Sarrul and Vrralana began engaging the fleets escorts with long-range missiles of their own while the Rredouane closed the distance of her main battery's range. The two front-mounted double turret 20 knuckle guns, the largest ever put to sea in Tajaran history, deafened sailors when they sent their shells arcing at opposing forces. After five salvos, a fleeing light cruiser was rendered inoperable, sinking some hours later. By midnight, 13 enemy destroyers and five light cruisers had been defeated. Fortunes turned against our victorious navy as they engaged a large fleet of hostile transport ships. After the transports of the enemy fleet made a sudden course change, a Republican submarine pack conducted a surprise attack, sinking the HMS Vrralana and all 701 souls which were aboard. The HMS Rredouane avoided damage when the HMS Jrugahr, a destroyer, made the heroic sacrifice of steaming into the way of an oncoming torpedo. Five other destroyers of the fleet were sunk as their ASW operations covered the retreat of the fleet to meet the Dolor. The fleet changed its operations to merely trailing the fleeing enemy, whose course now appeared to be for a port on the coast east of Shastar City. At 1300 hours on the 23rd of June, the area was within deployment range of the HMS Mata'ke's aircraft. Sonar buoys soon dotted the ocean as the remaining destroyers defeated the submarine pack, supported again by the long range missiles of the cruisers and the gargantuan main battery of the Rredouane which finished the last escorts. For the rest of the day until 0200 hours the morning of June 24th, all Republican vessels were found and engaged while fleeing, primarily with the aircraft of the HMS Mata'ke. For his bravery in the battle, Commander Harrmalik Rrhakaslav of the HMS Jrugahr, a Hharar commoner aged 26, was posthumously awarded the Order of the Victorious Sun for going above and beyond in the line of duty to protect his fellow sailors. He is the first to receive the award since Ser Mrakhanjurl Ii'rka in 2457. Despite the stunning success of the battle, protests began to emerge following the sinking of the HMS Vrralana outside of the Imperial Residence as the families of the lost sailors joined the families of those who lost relatives in the unfruitful 2459 spring offensive. Protesters called for an end to offensive operations and a new policy centered around economic development, citing the substantial debts held by the average citizen and the government, as well as the unfavorable casualty ratios of offensive actions. As radio dispatches began to reveal that the fleet was bound for Das'nrra, the crowd increased in size as Tajara advocated for an adjustment of foreign affairs to include non-intervention in the Republican civil war and peace with Republican forces. After the King's awarding ceremony for Commander Harrmalik Rrhakaslav, chants of "Remember Rrhakaslav! Remember the Vrralana!" began to fill the air. The King has yet to comment, and the opinions of Parliamentarians vary greatly.

[Implemented] Give IAA's Injunction Authority
Mofo1995 replied to Azande's topic in Accepted/Implemented Policy
Forgive me if it was said earlier, but is this suggestion referring to giving round-based injunction power to IAA or multi-round injunction power such as CCIA have? Round based only, it would not cross rounds ever. If this is the stipulation, I fully support it. At the moment, all IAAs have in their hands is the ability to tattle tale. If an injunction is filed in err, then someone could just file an IR against them, but generally speaking I think Internal Affairs is the perfect fit for this kind of power. Not brigging or arresting, but saying, "Hey, you two can't play nice" or "You have a serious drinking on the job problem" and making the right paperpusher call to address the problem before it gets to the "X person is being brigged" level. -

[Dismissed] Antag whitelist for special antags
Mofo1995 replied to BurgerBB's topic in Rejected Policy
How am I supposed to learn how to play any of the any of the "special" antag roles if they're stuck behind a skill gate? Should unrobust people really be blanket banned from antagonist roles with heavy doses of new mechanics? The wiki does not effectively teach someone how to wizard or vampire, being good at these any at roles requires knowledge of how their mechanics work. Reading the wiki isn't good enough, because while it might tell you what things do at face value it doesn't, list all of the mechanical hard coded values on everything. "XYZ spell does exactly 20 brute damage" etc. The wiki guides aren't powergaming compendiums, they're just a list of what options are available. If they just listed the best combos and exact coded damages or effects, then all rounds would just devolve to the same streamlined antag templates over and over again. After all, you don't wanna be peace wiz and lose your antag whitelist. Gotta make sure there's at least an hour of combat before security players adminhelp and get it stripped. Admins forbid a mistake happen and accidentally cut an antag short, lest they get bwoinked for not meeting the fun quota. Edit: Like, do we really wanna say to people "Oh yeah you have to go play on another server for awhile and antag it up there where the mechanics might be different then come back here." or "Oh yeah, you have to download a private server and test everything out then come back when you think you're ready." Getting auto-traitor every once in awhile is not going to teach you how to be robust in special roles, because the special roles all have novel mechanics which are specific to them. And even then, just outright being robust is not going to deliver the most outright fun experience to everyone. Getting gunned down by a merc or fireballed by a wiz with no interaction because they're in combat-RP mode isn't always fun for me. The challenge provided to security should not be the end all be all measure of how good an antagonist is. -
You sweet summer child. The naivety of Mer'tala radiates from her character. Her well-meaning peaceful nature ironically doubles back on itself to thinking a regime that pinned an assassination on an entire race and codified anti-Zhan (her own race) legislation. I guess what I mean is, Zhan are described as uneducated and consequently not very quick on the uptake. So to make such an innocent Zhan character who is somehow duped into believing the anti-zhan racist government is good and also that it was honorable for it to go back to NT's highly exploitative trade deals is an unbelievable fresh breathe of air. It's novel, believable, and even made me rethink the propaganda which the PRA might distribute. All around, it really got my mind joggin on why some people might genuinely support the PRA by providing a fresh perspective of the situation. Application approved.

Too much to keep track of, and would probably just wind up unenforceable. As far as glass ceilings, I see what you're saying. Old characters that were already above and beyond shouldn't be downgraded randomly, and it would be far more compelling to have it technically possible but not done. One thing I would like to reiterate is that Tajara have far less access to education, they're not inherently dull, they're just inherently uninformed. I actually thought the ban on non-human and non-skrell captains was IC, so you'll have to understand that's where I was coming from. Now, I have to say, I think that things like the avowal form were ultimately a big failure. At least while I had spent time handling them, pretty much everyone ignored them and any time a Vaurca was confronted about it they usually fabricated being enabled. "Oh yeah so and so or such and such filed my form, don't remember exactly their name." A system like that, I believe, will be shot with so many holes it'd be swiss cheese. An exclusionary test or some off-station exclusionary thing would be a neat idea. I think it's important to remember that, as far as Adhomai is concerned, NT is in bed with the PRA. It's not like there was official government anti-Zhan propaganda flying out of the PRA before Al-Mari bit the dust and a proper NT puppet came in. I don't think it's a good fit to think of NT as a noble champion of multiculturalism. So really, I don't see why the ALA or NKA's onions would really affect NT's staffing decisions, since only the PRA is giving them goodies.
