  1. Ill be reviewing this application tomorrow. Be sure to advertise once let round in OOC to collect feedback!
  2. I just always think of this, and start giggling. That's the only feedback I've got.
  3. I think demystifying Glorsh is an inherently terrible idea, and frankly, we gotta axe that. The idea of AI made to check and quality control other AI is actually a great idea though, but I would rather we not retcon the origins of Glorsh before he became Glorsh-Omega, and also to maintain the mystery of his motives. Aside from that, the introduction of codified ostracism by keeping tabs on the public opinions of various skrell and engendering a culture of informing on and pandering for likes really demonstrates the depth of Skrell social engineering and explains why they have to be so creative when wording their criticisms. It's very creative and outside of the box, yet also fits in perfectly with pre-existing lore, really reinforcing the insidious yet uncontested nature in which the Federation retains its grip on its citizens and is seemingly so united. With insight to how you've been working on upcoming Unathi lore, thinking outside of the box while also bringing great ideas that fit is a consistent theme of your work in lore. I think you will be an excellent fit for the lore team. Application accepted.
  4. I've given it a good read over and really thought about it, and I understand that you've really thought out your plan of attack. But I don't really agree with the direction you plan to take skrell in. I think it would be a bad move, and I'm not really convinced we can make it work out. But I appreciate your surprise interest and encourage you to continue to be vocal about your concerns regarding skrell lore development.
  5. I've come to a decision. Your essay was nothing short of fantastic and the vision you had for skrell was nothing short of excellent. Unfortunately, I cannot ignore the constant and sustained barrage of complaints regarding your behavior from both members of the lore team and the community. While I am willing to believe and envision a team where you were able to get along with everyone, I wasn't really able to convince anyone else about this. The ideas and input you had about skrell lore were fantastic, and I hope the incoming skrell developer will take your feedback into consideration.
  6. Is this a Loow alt account?
  7. He tried to talk to me about the round the night before too, but instead I went to bed after I got home from work (I closed at my store on Sunday). There was another mention where he said he was going to file an IR on Resi earlier than this one, but it was in the context of him not wanting to influence my opinions on their candidacy for Skrell lore dev due to bias.

    Xeno Shells

Why would humans rich enough to commission IPCs and shells be willing to commission a robot from what is considered to be the terrorism-infested source of refugees and cheap labor known as Adhomai? Especially considering humans dislike the Tajara enough that the largest human state in the galaxy voted to ban them all from travelling there and refuses to renew their green cards? It's not only a whitelist standards enforcement or roleplay quality issue, it's also an oxymoron to the lore. If you wanna have fur you gotta apply for Tajara. Tajara shells would be so far out there and such an uncommon oddity, that seeing one on station that wasn't made for some devious and specialized antagonistic infiltration plan would be ludicrous, let alone the dozens or so that would follow. There's no money to be made in the market for Tajara shells, either from human consumers or Tajaran consumers, so the only Tajara shells that I could possibly see made are for those with unsavory predilections with a ton of credits to burn. As far as stability agents on Adhomai, there's already plenty of far cheaper PRA yes-men to do that work, so I don't see why anyone would need to go through the hurdles of making a bunch of Tajaran shells to go there when there's already a whole faction fighting specifically for human corporate interests.
  9. I read your essay! And after thinking about it awhile I've come here with some feedback for you. I'm not here to be a formalist and request everyone abide by genre conventions, so I won't gripe hard about the form your essay took, but it was pretty unorthodox. Starting off with a post modern deconstruction of the medium of writing in essay form was a risky move. Off the top of my head, the suggestions posed here are very ironic in the sense that they completely flew in the face of the intentions of Loow, the previous Skrell lore handler. That's not inherently bad in any way! But I feel as though these suggestions in particular aren't great. Pushing Glorsh and the foundation of the second federation back so that there are no living skrell from that time would probably make it very irrelevant to most skrell players, and less impactful on lore writing since there would be no one saying "I was there," an extremely powerful aspect of skrell lore. It's a comparison that I hate to draw since it doesn't do either skrell lore or actual human history any justice, but imagine if the Holocaust had happened 600+ years ago instead of within the last century. Isn't it far more powerful when there are survivors still around, and in addition, the perpetrators and collaborators? While there are hints of serious and entrenched issues within the second federation's government, it's ultimately bound and knit very sturdily through the collective trauma of the older generation's experiences, that same older generation which is primarily still in charge. An important feature which gives flavor to the hints of the totalitarian Skrell deep state is how the older generations were hardened by the times they lived in, and now operate with that same strictness and do or die mentality in these peaceful days as they had to in those dark times. Much of the tension of the modern federation is from how this old guard contrasts against the young like Jrugl, who have grown up in times of relative peace and seek to liberalize the state to reflect the change in the times. This dynamic of fathers and sons would be lost if we pushed it really far back. Second is the sterilization changes suggestion. The biggest astro-political issues facing Skrell on a strategic level is the slow outpacing of their position as top dog by humans through economy and population growth. The way the Skrell are currently set is that they're sort of like space elves in the sense that they don't propagate very quickly (but enough to not be going extinct) and are very powerful, advanced, and intelligent. The sterilization is supposed to be a reminding scar to accompany the collective trauma of the era of synthetic oppression, and the diminished effects of it today are an allegory for how skrell are slowly overcoming the burdens that were laid onto them by Glorsh-Omega. Do you think the tradeoff of removing these symbolic themes are worth presenting players with an extinction crisis over a thousand years away? At the current trajectory, humans are set to outpace them in economy, military strength, and eventually technology. The current state of the lore is at the fascinating moments when their relative strengths are a toss up. And truthfully speaking, the unscrupulous use of AI by humans is a massive accelerator for their rapid advancement, which further threatens the complacent skrell. Skrell illuminati is a pretty decent idea. The old Guard and hardened revolutionaries who founded the second federation essentially pull the strings behind the curtains, with Qroisht Tup being the most visible and overt representation of their influence and power. But subtlety has always been a very important feature of skrell. I think making the autocratic tendencies of the skrell plainly obvious might be insulting to the intellect of skrell players. And even if insulting is a bit too far, I think it would be compromising the strength of their lore. For me, this is the biggest sticking point. A lot of the interest in Glorsh is generated first by the scale of its impact on the trajectory of galactic history, and secondly by the mystery of its motives. By demystifying Glorsh, I think we're doing a great disservice to everyone, and it would be far less immediately less interesting. Glorsh was a cold calculating and practically omnipotent machine, adding transparent propaganda motives makes it seem more like a demagogic dictator, and less robotic. Much of the horror is derived from the emotionless nature of machines, and much of the mystery but the lack of explanation and ultimate disappearance at Tri'Qyu, which could have been anything from ascension to a higher state of being to suicide. No one knows. I'm interested to see your thoughts on these musings, I will be largely unavailable for the next three days due to family visiting, so my response may take awhile.
  10. You have been accepted to SAMPLe as the division chair for the research department. Welcome to the League, Researchmate 2459.

    Xeno Shells

I really didn't like Xeno Shells when they were around and I really don't want Tajaran shells. Tajara are too poor to make their own IPCs, and generally too poor to buy them either. They're also the subject of racism from humans, so I also don't see why humans would make them either. I do like the antag only option though, the SYNTHETIC MENACE.
  12. Okay, I'll read it tomorrow when I get out of work if it's up by then.
  13. Application withdrawn at applicant's request. Thank you for your interest! Your essay about the complexities of Skrell expression was an interesting read.
  14. Two very well written essays! One thing I would like clarified is the establishment of the second federation in this new lore. The nationalist movement which was the strongest of them forms the cornerstone of the second Federation, but how did they ultimately convince the other movements to integrate? Are there any political parties in this proposed version of the federation, possibly even by the same names of the resistance movements which presumably came together to form it? Through your writing, I get the strong feeling that you might have caught onto the intentions behind the arcane designs of Glorsh-Omega, and while I'm on that subject, the fact that you referred to it as "it" rather than "he" or whatever is a strong bonus. At least in my minds eye, this leads to a three party system of Skrell- the ethno-nationalists, the democrats, and the anti-globalists. Those three points alone leave us with much to explore in terms of internal politics, a subject which has hitherto been byzantine by the nature of how state media covers events. I can already see the Nral'Balak sympathizing with the system states which still haven't reintegrated into the Federation, and the Old Glory ambitiously trying to add them to their empire. I'm also interested in the idea of the Shores of Liberty and the Old Glory being at odds over the future of Skrell government. Regarding your behavior, I got along with you swimmingly while you were a Vaurca lore developer, though I see where everyone's coming from. At the very least, the most vocal complaints about your behavior have told me they have been assuaged over the course of the application process. This application shows promise.
  15. It's been a few days, is there any update on the essay?
  16. You stated that you were only interested in the position if no one else applied. Now that there are two more applications, are you still interested in the position?
  17. As the man says, this used to be a feature long ago, but somewhere along the way it went the way of the buffalo gourd. Having a plant bag dedicated to seeds or floor piling them is ANNOYING, so I would love to see this!
  18. The application is good, but at first it wasn't clear to me that she was a kingdom kat other than having fled to Dymtris. Based on how her home was destroyed by commie commisars when she was on the cusp of being a teen, that would put it at some 10/11 years ago, so it also took some context clues to put together your kool kat would be in her early 20's or so by now. At first I was uncertain about how I felt about a pinup model and USO-type performer. But now that I've dwelled on the thought for a little while, I think it's a fresh and welcome take on the war experience, and I'm willing to accept this application.
  19. Yes, I want this. Greasers are a subculture of Tajara in protest of the jazz swing culture of the mainstream Tajara.
  20. Hey! There we go. You have plenty of playtime under your belt despite being a new member to the community, and you seem really enthusiastic over the course of this past week. I think you're going to be a good addition, and I enjoy your large backstory. Enjoy your whitelist!
  21. You have been accepted to SAMPLe as a standard member in the Science Division under the Research and Development Department, welcome to the League, Mr. Akan.
  22. So, were Ra and his brother in the same unit? Or at some point in the story did Ra's brother join the ALA, and they happened to fight each other in the same battle? The backstory does a good job of following Ra's exploits, but his brother completely phases out of the story for several paragraphs until Ra kills him in battle. IT's unclear to me if it was friendly fire and they were in the same unit, or if his brother joined the rebels and got HEEMed. Other than that clarification, the last thing I need before I'll process this application is for "litter mate" to be changed to sibling, or childhood friend, or something.
  23. I'm a fan! The story is well written, and while you're new to the server, you've already put in the backbone to get a lot of playtime under your belt. Advarte's story is emotional, as well as connected to the on-going lore situation on Adhomai. I came off of this application feeling like I had a strong grasp of the kind of person Advarte is, and the ways which he has developed over the course of his life. While some of the elements of the story, such as his harrowing battle with the Ha'rrons as a teenager, are a bit flashy, I don't think it's unacceptably over the top. The only other section I could really take gripe with is only taking a year to get a GED's worth of education before launching into 10 years of studying robotics at a university, but I think we're good handwaving that away for now because he did take 10 whole years to finish his program anyways. As far as sections lacking in this application that I take some issue with is that he doesn't seem to support any faction. The connection to the first revolution by parental participation is something I will accept to let it pass for now, though. Corrections! A Tajara cannot be a citizen of the Sol Alliance. And going even further, the Sol Alliance has recently banned all new immigrating Tajara and stated they won't renew any outstanding Tajaran visas or issue new ones. Additionally, having studied in Sol, Advarte would have experienced significant racism as Tajara are very looked down upon and even carry the stereotype of being terrorists. The immigration ban was a recent development in news articles and hasn't found its way onto the wiki yet, so I'm not holding it against you that you didn't know! So as far as things which "have" to change about your character's canon in order to be whitelist ready, Advarte would've been studying in Sol on a student's visa, as well as presumably working there. And I guess you could throw in a sentence that, "oh yeah some people were crummy." Aside from that, it's a good story and I'm confident you can play a good Tajara. Application accepted.
