You've got yourssself a deal, innkeeper. I'll be in my room. Talen-Kai goes to his room with a couple bottles of mead, drinks one, and pours the other out in order to get two empty bottles. Pulling out his mortar and pestle, he elects to try and make potions of fatigue to regain some energy from the travels for the two party members who seemed worn out. Since he only has two bottles to work with, he'll try to make himself one and drink it, then try to make one for Gavrunn, and a potion of health for the coming fight. I guessss Zaghorim wasssn't tired. He mutters to himself as he gets to work.

"You ssshould give me a dissscount becausse-" Talen-kai heard the news from Garvunn and turns to face him surprised. Not wanting to make the innkeeper think there's something amiss, and certainly not willing to go marching on after the long trek here, Taken attempted to continue the Avenue of haggling for a room. "Ah, Garvunn, good of you to find the inn. Could you let your fellow Nord here know he isss acting like an Imperial with hisss pricssing? Hisss sskin growss more Cccyrodilic by the moment, the way he bargainsss!" Talen-Kai follows this up with a toothy smile and a laugh at the innkeeper, to try and lighten his jest.

" It isssn't very polite to rob a companion like thisss. You're busssting my ssscaless here. Sssurely you can grant me a dissscount? Eight for the room and five for the three meadsss. "

I love balaclavas. They're the pinnacle of mask fashion. I wear one everywhere in the winter, and the idea of boarding the station as a terrorist in a balaclava is all too enticing. Plus, I wouldn't mind security gearing up with them to become more operator-looking during their shootouts and code red operations.

Talen-Kai, after being appropriately pointed to the Dead Man's Drink, goes to procure a room in anticipation of the coming night, and in order to set up his modest alchemy operation, a mortar and pestle and some water to make reagents drinkable. Realizing that he forgot his bottles for potions back at Jorrvaskr, he will order three bottles of ale after seeing about the price of a room, one for himself and the other two for his companions when they get back.

This is a thing. One time, back when I first got my head whitelist, a skeleton was found in the showers. OOCly I thought it was a ling, but ICly I pressed for an autopsy and discovered the method of death was wrenching the shower go be burning hot, and standing there burning themselves to death. As far as continuity of events between rounds, it's been pretty well laid out. I mostly just entered this thread to share a (funny?) Suicide story. The uncanon nature of being an antagonist can be really liberating for roleplay, but I like that everything else unrelated is canon.

What Happened to the Rest of the World in Fallout?
Mofo1995 replied to Jboy2000000's topic in Other Games
According to the intro of the first Fallout game, which lays out the political landscape in 2077, Europe somehow devulged into a bunch of "bickering nations" which were largely irrelevant to global politics. The planets oil supply ran out, so you can imagine how OPEC countries became. I do often wonder what specifically happened to Europe, because what reason would there be to nuke it when the war was between China and the US, and many nations didn't have much of anything to do with either. As far as Mad Max and Fallout, Wasteland was a vidya made based on Mad Max, and Fallout is a game made based on Wasteland which was supposed to use GURPS, but it fell through so they made the SPECIAL system. (Which you can play out on pen and paper, but no one does.) -
Collective bargaining. It makes sense for captains and heads of security to be loyalty implanted because they're bureaucrats and security commanders who have lifelong employment with NanoTransen and possibly ambitions to rise up in the corporation. They're people who must be loyal to NT. Research Directors and scientists in general though aren't there to be NT for life, they're there to work on some project and potentially move onto another fellowship, or lab, or government, or corporation depending on their interests. Academics can be surprisingly mobile and prolific, not to mention sometimes ego-maniacal, and the prospect of having a chip put in their head to be loyal to a corporation they don't plan on hanging around in would probably be enough for most to turn down the job offer. I could be wrong, but I figure they aren't loyalty implanted because otherwise it would drive many bright minds away to competitors.

Talen-kai looks to Zahgorim and Garvunn and speaks, " I could try my hand at invessstigating for cluess, and I want to resst for the night. Besssidess, I want to sssee what I can do with these herbss." With that, he looks to the housecarl and asks, " Where iss the nearesst inn?"

I think this post is the most important part of this discussion, the shortened attention span of people on the station these days. I can think of multiple instances where people call crew transfer for an extended round, and then proceed to vote in a new extended round, like what. But I think the most important part of this discussion is that antagonists these days run on a very tight schedule. The trend I've noticed is that most rounds I'm there for are two hour secret rounds chained together, giving antagonists a strict two hours of stage time to get anything done. A fair counter-argument to this is that antagonists are often caught and everything is wrapped up by the two hour mark, but I think that if people could vote to continue round more often, then they might have more time to plan things out to get cleaner crime scenes and create bigger plot arcs than random acts of criminal activity.

5th Duty Officer/CCIA recrutiment thread
Mofo1995 replied to Gollee's topic in General Announcements
Byond key: Mofo1995 Character names: Isiah Fraser, Shkor-Dyet Dom'Pesh, Maximilius Chrysostom, Loresh Zup'Quil, Coming Soon: Harold Dent What times are you available? In GMT: Just about all day except early-mid afternoon GMT (Noon - 5) I don't sleep much. Do you have any experience with Moderating? Or similar. I've done a decent amount of dungeon mastering over the years, and was president of a handful of clubs in high school (including a regional organization), but as far as internet moderating goes I'm afraid I'm lacking in formal experience. Why do you want to be a Duty Officer? All though I've been a very active member of this server, I'm looking for ways to be not only more active, but productive for Aurora. I believe that I could positively contribute to the community by being a member of the DO Corps, and I have a lot of spare time to devote to it. I believe that I could do well at it. How well can you handle stress? I'm renown for being a very relaxed person, everyone used to think I was a chronic stoner due to this fact. Ironically, I've never smoked the devil's herb. What does it mean to be a Duty Officer? To arbitrate and settle IC disputes, to be the ultimate model of an upstanding NT employee, and to partake in discussions which set the regulations of the land. It means being just, level-headed, and inquisitive in order to get to the bottoms of issues and to effect a fair outcome. How active on the forums and server are you? Extremely. I check the forums frequently, I've been very active in the new discord chat, and I'm on the server for a few hours daily. Anything else to add? I hope I'm a good fit for the Corps. -
Asianmang's Head of Staff Whitelist Request
Mofo1995 replied to Aznmang's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I dunno, I've only seen Joirah Micheals do toxins research (which he does very well by the way) and research and development, and the R&D isn't the best craftsmanship I've ever seen, not to say it's bad either. I think that you should probably beef up your experiences around the sciences, not for learning how to do the jobs (all though this can be really helpful) but in order to learn all the procedures and paperwork that go behind all of them. Most people in science don't know how to put their name on a paper, and as RD, you really have to know those papers inside and out to be able to help them out in case IA comes in, or an AI reports a regulation breach. -1 for now, but after some time in the future I'd be willing to flip this over -
So, there's an issue with this that stems from New code, in that chem dispsensors no longer regenerate chemicals. The usual trick of dipping over to the outpost (which most scientists did anyways) will now just deplete all of the anomalists' chems. All of that said, the only interaction that I've seen go away with the addition of acid dispensers is the scientist-roboticist interaction of a scientist fetching acid for a roboticist. You're right though that research has been even more isolated lately. I try to give people breaks to go around the station, but for the most part everyone sits in science.

"Let'sss not get involved with necromancccerss. I have too many scaless to get involved with dragonss." Hisses Talen-Kai, as he signs his name to the Hagraven contract.

I don't see why we should keep them at their current power level though, there's really no reason for it. The new slimes are such a pain in the ass to work with, if the goal is to make xenobiology have a higher lethality rate and be more challenging, old code slimes still killed a lot of people. I really don't see why we should keep new code slimes except possibly out of some sense of elitism for people who can handle them successfully, and I have to stress, not many people even managed to do that with old code slimes. On the subject of aggroing the slimes with fire extinguishers, misclicks happen. Accidentally bonk them once when you meant to spray them, and it's more often than not game over.

After deeply considering my actions of the past, and remembering stories that my grandfather once told me when he owned the rice farm, move to Seattle and pursue and education. Study software engineering with a minor in math, and join an accredited business with a B rating from the BBB. After twenty years in the industry, retire early to sail around the world with your wife who you met as an undergrad, and try to taste the sweeter things in life. After ten years of cruising, and your wife's sudden death due to an obscure illness, consider what makes you yourself. After some time in India, spent with monks in deep meditation, decide to move back to Japan to the family farm where your younger brother took over after your father's death. Now that the prodigal son has returned, begin farming rice for the rest of your days, living peacefully in the Japanese countryside.

I move to Vietnam and join the Vietcong, spending all day making pungee pits and hiding kalashnikovs under rice stores.

I often forget when I'm an antag unless it's blatantly obvious like being a nuke-op, and even then I struggle to be antagonistic. I disabled all my antag options due to my struggles with being someone who is genuinely bad. Plus, given the amount of complaints on the player complaints against antags, I just get too scared to kill anyone for fears of "g-gank!"

Name: Talen-Kai Andreeteus Description: Argonian with rusty red scales and a some sharp swept back horns, he applies green and blue warpaint to his face every morning as a makeup routine. He wears a set of leather armor from Argnonia, and has a make-shift spear he once carried in the swamps. For warmth, he wears a grey cloak over his body, and is known for his hissing laughter and jovial disposition. His sharp teeth are often in a smile. Primary skill: Major Skills:ConjurationMysticism, Sneak, Alteration, (Can we have spears?), Light Armor, Alchemy Misc skills: Fast swimmer, Perceptive, Good at cooking and sewing, Pick-pocketing Disadvantages: Recovered skooma addict, Disdain for (non-companion) Dunmer, fiscally irresponsible, holds alcohol poorly Backstory: Talen-Kai was once known as "Befriends-Daedra" for his devoted studies of conjuration. A native of Argonia, he moved to Skyrim after partaking in some raids against Morrowind in order to pursue his studies at the College of Winterhold. Life with the frigid conditions of the college fell on him roughly, and so he coped with the cold by fostering a skooma addiction. He was ejected from the college for stealing to pay for his skooma, and spent some time drifting until he overcame the addiction at the temple of Mara in Riften. Needing work, yet forgetting all of his conjuration abilities, he changed his name to Talen-Kai Andreeteus to put his past behind him and auditioned for the Companions after shaking out some of the rust from his time of inactivity. All though he is not the most skilled fighter, he tries his best to bring utility to combat situations. Eager to avoid the mistakes of his past, he feels a strong sense of brotherhood and devotion to his fellow companions.

So I did some experimentation with new code xenobiology, and a slime which has been starved for nearly two hours still only needs ONE monkey to become a full grown adult and then split. That's hardly any food. On old code, assuming they haven't been starved, on monkey would make it adult, and then a second monkey would make it split. This made slime farming a longer process, but it made slime outbreaks very containable since slimes need to eat a decent amount. A starved slime took two whole monkeys just to become an adult. Bringing back these mechanics would make slimes leaps and bounds easier to handly. Another thing is this: All though slimes are weak to water, it takes a long amount of time for them to drop dead from it. One baby slime can be blasted with an entire fire extinguisher, and you have to wait some ten seconds after the last bit spraying them for them to finally drop dead. The fact that it takes so long for them to drop dead in addition to temperature no longer being a factor, dealing with slime outbreaks becomes even more impossible as they can have multiple generations of offspring on just one xenobiologist in addition to being able to jump on you and feed into health when you've dealt what should've been a lethal blow since it takes time for them to drop. For reference, on old code, one concentrated blast in the containment area would usually drop them dead instantly, two if you were unlucky. A third if it got some munch time in on you. New code xenobiology is strictly worse in every way from old code, even the xenobiology map layout is worse since one of the pens is unusable, and had it's disposals feeding system replaced with a random cloning pod.

[ Skrell Players ] Why don't you do this awesome thing

This, is actually really helpful advice. I might have to make a new char and experiment with this. -

It's surprisingly difficult to speak like that. I tried once and instead I sounded like Trump with the simple structures of my sentences. -
I really love xenobiology. All though the isolation means that you don't receive many visitors, it also means you're under less supervision and have a bit more freedom. Kicking it down in xenobio with the slimes isn't so bad because unless if you have a good RD (and even then, they're often swamped with work, and by virtue of being a good RD they're presence isn't negative to the job) you're probably going to be completely devoid of authority, making the job really laid back. Another perk is that, since it is so isolated, the only people who are going to visit you are people who are actively seeking to RP with you. Whether they're an antagonist trying to do some horrible deed to you, a friend who wants to spend time with you, a stranger with the authority to drop by, or an apprentice, being picked out for roleplay because of your secluded location is often a brightside. Alternatively, it's really fun to bring in assistants and teach them the job. Even if they're total noobs, teaching people a job is fun, and really lessens the burden of having to do slime surgery. Plus, being partners in a highly lethal and dangerous bond is a good catalyst for forming strong friendships. The last bit is a little morbid, but another nice part about xenobiology is that most guests you bring in are trapped until you decide to let them out. The merits of this last part are purely antagonistic in nature, of course, unless you're a madman. And, finally, safety. Typically, whatever horrible and ungodly events are occurring around the place, I usually find myself completely fine in xenobiology. All though this game is not a work simulator, I love work simulation, and to be able to work for long periods of time without interruption allows for more advanced research and time for research projects. There's also some interesting ghost roleplay. I get bored sometimes, because isolation does have the downside of loneliness, and so sometimes I sing to the slimes or shit talk them, or try to summon golems. I often get LOOC'd by ghosts who appreciate the isolation roleplay.
