New Code Discussions: Shells v Androids
Mofo1995 replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
So, I could be wrong, but I think the spiehl that's being spat here is that it would be trivial to just make new shells with this new android system for all cosmetic intents and purposes. Except now with newer cleaner code. And that the only major difference now is you can't have absurd skin colors. Which all seems pretty neat to me if I'm understanding this correctly. -
I like to stay flexible, so I shitpost on mobile. This has the unfortunate consequence of making resizing images not possible.

No tears, only nuggets.

You're sitting at a table. The room is dimly lit and a strange machine sits across from you on the other-side. The singular door which leads into this room opens and a man in a trench coat walks in to take the seat across from you. He sets down a portfolio of notes in a brown folder and boots up the machine, preparing a pen to take notes. Lastly, he pulls out a large gun and sets it down on the table, but it is too far for you to reach. Taking a deep breath, the man puts on some reading glasses and looks at you in the eyes. This person is a Blade Runner, and he has brought you here to administer a *Voight-Kampff test. If the Blade Runner finds you out, he will put you in retirement. He lights a cigarette and offers you one. "Don't worry, it's just a test." Despite his reassuring words, you know that you are an advanced model of replicant. Aside from models implanted with fake memories, replicants don't usually pass these tests. But you're a newer and state of the art model. What you don't know is if you can pass this test. While still offering you the cigarette, he begins by asking his first question: "In your apartment complex's communal courtyard, one of your neighbours is shouting at their spouse again ... only this time it turns violent. You call the police. Do you intervene before the police arrive?" *

I like that he says smeg and smeghead. Red Dwarf is an underrated show.

New Code Discussions: Shells v Androids

So, I just watched Blade Runner again, and it made me want to come into this thread in the defense of shells. I really liked the narrative which was being spun about synthetic rights and distrust of synths. But, I'm not a whitelisted IPC player, and so, I understand if these two cents aren't pocketed. -
Totally legit Sinta'Articke paper snippet.

I like this idea a lot. A pragmatic and straight forward report on the events of hives would be a really interesting take on journalism coming from the hive minds, and the example seems absolutely fascinating despite how simple it is.

Voxstep is now canon. Incidentally, I discovered the sauce of your profile picture whilst browsing music videos, and even more so, it coincidentally sounds like it could be some pretty neat future music.

I never see bound Vaurcae around anymore, and I don't believe I've ever seen Vess'ex. I feel like the backstory really conveys a proper understanding of the circumstances which account for Vaurca being here and aboard the station, that is, they're obedient workers. And I think a Vess'ex is the most sensical type of Vaurca to find in human space. Xander is a really active member of the community, and I believe they can be trusted to bring about fascinating role-play for our server through a Vaurca whitelist.

Could we have turbans too? They would be really Sikh.

I don't know if this is quite the right place to bring it, but the civil war on Adhomai seems just about completely... ignored. The news articles and lore about it describe this brutal and desperate civil war which I love to read about, but never have I seen this really take an effect in game except for once a few days ago when Jboy's character brought up the newer conscription policies. Sure, on the forums and in OOC, people discuss the stereotype that Tajarans are terrorists, but in-game and ICly I fail to see all this rich lore manifest itself in any characters or in any discussions. In fact, I seem to witness racism in the form of thinking they're silly furries more often than they're hardened refugees from a brutal war. I think that the lore is headed in a good direction and continuing to bring a rich background for people to draw their characters from. I believe the best solution to the aforementioned problems would be to have some sort of progression or advancement of events in the lore, to help bring fresh to player's minds the grimness of the Tajaran reality, which seems to be happening in stride with the recent batch of articles that have been posted. I think that biased war reports coming into people's newscasters from the three factions with contradicting claims and rampant propaganda would be very interesting.

Is.... is that Zammy? Why would you love Zam-zam? He's like, a total edgy poser wannabe. Zaros is where it's at. EDIT: Picture added for clarity.

I agree heavily with this. Every single round there's a host of random events that are well, not even random anymore. It's just a guarantee that once a round, there will be space carp, spiderlings, ionstorm, and a radiation "cloud." Then it's either a blob, a viral outbreak, space dust, or meteors. Pretty much the entire inventory of random events gets unraveled every shift, with meteors being the only one that's actually somewhat rare.

After reviewing Rusty's list, only the first of which I knew, it inspired me to come up with a list of my own of suggested musical features of the future. I tried to stick along with the theme of a more electronic timbre, while retaining a more homophonic texture as most hit pieces tend to be. Pop Music: Rap Music: Rock Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSlMmC513gg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mA_Fh8vuIM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKsY9C5Hm-g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMqbsZ8XSgE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkfXA-_omyA Feedback would be appreciated

I like to think that there's a genre of music called Skrell-pop that my Skrell listens to, as well as swamp rap.

Fun Facts About....well, Ourselves!

Поздравления! How'd you two meet? -
As it stands, there is a gap between the lore and the code. With the new code, Skrell have to be strict vegans, not just vegetarians, but vegans. A plain plate of spaghetti with no sauce or meat or anything is poisonous. Bread is poisonous. A pie made out of only berries is also poisonous. Nearly everything the kitchen could possibly make is poisonous to Skrell. Yet the lore says that they are mostly herbivores, but may like to flavor their food with meat. If we plan on making Skrell completely unable to eat meat, could we at least not make them full vegan? Having only snack machines and their delicious raisins as your only dietary option on station doesn't really conduct roleplay, and it's not exactly fun either. And if we plan on making Skrell dietary habits equivalent to the current lore, could we fix this up this discrepancy?

Fun Facts About....well, Ourselves!

More like terrifyingly awesome experience. More fun facts for keks, I'm a Russophile, despite it's many many many problems. I love the language, the history is badass, slavshit is pretty neat. The local Russian-speaking fast food workers have no idea I understand them when they speak among themselves. -
When you give an orthodox priest gold ingots Closed Iconstasis: Open Iconstasis: The chapel became the "Church of Saint John Chyrsostom." Don't mind the solid gold baseball bat, it's an icon of Saint Bonds.

Pretty much all the complaint boards are somewhat entertaining to read, if you can appreciate the drama. I think incident reports are likely the least interesting because of the lack of "back and forth," but player complaints and staff complaints are my favorites. If you're looking for something which is most interesting to read, go through denied Tajaran Whitelists. There's some serious comedy gold to be had there.

24-02-16, the day off-topic claimed its own independence

Yes, the forum moderators could be considered janitors. Many might say they do it for free, but I heard a rumor that they're paid in hot pockets. Also I like the santa hat on Skull's avatar. It gives his posts a more festive tone, especially when he's bringing down the admin hammer on fools. -
Loyalty Implants are like choosing Lawful Good in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The amount of RP capabilities you have is entirely dependent on your dungeon master. If your DM (mods and mins) have this view of a perfect little paladin who does nothing wrong, your RP abilities aren't very expansive. But if you can really play with the dynamics of it and are allowed to, it's a satisfying experience with a large degree of freedom. I think that our staff is shooting for the latter rather than the former, but they still have to be wary about if actions just simply cannot be rectified and reasoned. I think the real issue here is not loyalty Implants themselves, but rather a lack of common ground on how to role-playing it. If we give loyalty Implants a set of laws like an AI, then we remove all the freedom which is actually there to shoehorn people into being goodie two-shoes. Especially if we prohibit law lawyering of loyalty Implants. If we remove them completely, we remove a powerful tool which a captain or head of security can use as a plot device to break regulations, leverage power, and silence questions to their authority.

Mrkadoodle Head of Staff whitelist request
Mofo1995 replied to Mrkadoodle's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
It's a mostly good conversation, if you ignore everything with "ERP" and Hive's steps to good RP. -
I really like Alexia West. I'm glad we have a hardline enforcer for NT around.
