  1. What is the lore behind mechatronic engineering? Which species build mechs? What kinds of mechs are there other than the ones we have in code? How new is the field of mechatronic engineering? How prevalent is it in warfare? Are there chromehounds? Which corporations excel at mechatronics? How common are mechs in varying regions of space? Tell me all about mechatronic engineering, I think our wiki is a bit lacking on something which has widespread implications and possibly importance on our universe.
  2. So, essentially, just the same as it is in Lifeweb. I like the idea of this, and it might lead to more roleplay of: "Shut up! Quit yelling on comms!" A good way to make exclamations both more effective, and to make people rethink what exactly they want to exclaim.
  3. I agree with the criticisms that this is a really small issue, and that we could prroooooobably trust our player base to not game it, but I just figured I'd throw it out there to see if it was as easy to change as it was a small issue. If those conditions are met, may as well sneak in some more realism to our lore. If not, well, that's fine too.
  4. As it stands in game, when you go to check your IC notes, you get a bunch of information about your character. That's nice enough, and even nicer is that you can add notes to this list of persistent information (that is, persistent only within a round.) However, there are two problems with it as it currently stands. If you die and are cloned, not only do you retain all notes that you had added before death meaning they are remembered, but also you get a new note saying "time of death:" and then the station time at your death. I don't know how simple or difficult it would be to remove, but important things like codes can be remembered across cloning, and I think this warrants some attention. Even if it's not that particularly large of an issue.
  5. New catbeast military veteran character concept:
  6. Is this a serverside issue? I just always assumed I had connection problems. I'd say this would be a healthy and productive change, given the amount of times I have to spam click things in menus before they register.
  7. Crisp sexual tension, Jackboot, I'm really digging the vibes these new species hardsuits are giving me. All around good vibes.
  8. Big time -1 from me. Tom Albright has a very loose familiarity with the rules and directives of the station, and plays fast and loose with the rules. I find the idea that he is strict on paperwork to be wildly inaccurate given these principles. This ranges from thinking illegal research without Director permission is okay, to thinking it's okay to take an alien hunter out of xenobiology to be cooked up and fed to the crew. These are serious concerns for someone who wants to be a head of staff. But, not everyone is meant to be an infallible follower of proper procedure and protocol. Even heads of staff have their shortcomings, and even I had to learn some things following getting my head of staff whitelist. But, then there are the personality issues... Tom isn't just "stubborn." He's an extremely condescending jerk who lashes out with a barrage of insults when people try to help or lookout for him. He's unaccommodating, and to mirror a bit of what Jenna said, he acts like a know it all when confronted with any issue, even when he's very wrong. He prostrates and points to his employment records and age when confronted with any challenge to condescend and browbeat anyone who tries to discuss with him. He consistently treats Fraser like a unprofessional child, presumably just because of age difference, even though I've been here for months and Fraser is pretty dang professional. There was another incident about a week or two back where he went off on Fraser, calling him a a new guy and condescending the ever living crap out of him. He was going on and on about how new people should "know better" and listen to "their superiors" and that he "worked here for years" even going as far as to say it was "his lab" and that I had to listen to his orders. He tried to claim he was my boss even though we had to same job, just because of the age difference. All because Fraser analyzed an advanced mining drill that was sitting out to further some research, even though printing a new one took less than a moment and was done just about right afterwards, which inadvertently held back a miner less than ten seconds form getting a new drill. Tom absolutely cannot stand, in any way shape or form, being wrong. He even went as far as to claim that a head of staff who was never even present in the shift would be okay with taking a xenomorph out of science to be served as food for the crew. Auralia-Fedas Ro-Suos, mind you, who ironically, would never even remotely be okay with that, but that's more in the realm of YouJustGotOwened. OOCly, Arcbot seems like a nice guy, engaging the community in OOC chat and offering advice to new players within ye olde double brackets, but the way Tom Albright acts is very far from what is acceptable for a head of staff. Logs of conversations posted below. So, I reiterate, minus one. Tons of room for improvement, I think you can do it, but with the current status of affairs I'm adamantly against this. Logset One: Reaction to me calling security for a potential hostile xeno outbreak in xenobiology (He spent some time in the hospital for this, recovered, did some work, and then died by the same creatures, causing the security response anyways but hours later.) Logset Two: He dragged a locker with an alien hunter and deposited it in the bar to be cooked and served for the crew, violating all kinds of rules and procedures presumably for keks, and possibly endangering everyone. Not good role-play. Even going further and lying saying that a very straight-lace by-the-books reputable head of staff would be okay with it.
  9. There was something about databases and old-code vs. new-code and bluespace anomalies. I don't know the full scoop, but I think custom items are temporarily gone or something.
  10. Beautiful! If custom items ever come back, I hope this become a reality.
  11. Purple Head Cloths Purple Head Cloths Purple Head Cloths Thanks fam. Now for my for realsie list: Picking up Animals<--- Mice and lizards can't be picked up these days, even though cats can. Writing in Other Languages Higher Age Cap<--- Most skrell I know are above it these days.
  12. It's worth noting that the second security officer who was killed was held down in the shuttle and beheaded with a hatchet. I think it was by Yaktir, but I don't remember for sure. I don't remember if he attacked cultists following the beheading of the "atheist" in departures, or if he was aggressed some time after, but he did have his gun out when he died. EDIT: atheist being in quotes to denote a titular title, rather than some sort of questioning if he's atheist.
  13. I love it, I think it's fantastic, I'm a huge fan of all these changes. I think this will really help to set Vaurcae aside from the other races and make them come into their own. The only further change I would suggest is the on talked about previously wherein they would be able to communicate using hive communication, sort of like lings, with other Vaurcae. Except maybe in space, depending on if it uses radio waves or Pheromones.
  14. Really, this. The beautiful thing about the Mutiny gamemode back on old code was that it gave people really good reasons to revolt, and rather organically caused a divide in the station. Some of the reasons were better than others, but generally they were better than revolution which was: "Hey, NT sucks, wanna murder our bosses?" Or, even worse, people walking around spamming the recruitment verb and accidentally winding up in the rev with zero RP because you wanted the popup to disappear, or denying and magically meta-knowing who is in the revolution because they tacitly hit you with a popup. Revolution is a bit of a big term for a handful of people on a spacestation overthrowing their bosses, but maybe we wouldn't have to change the name at all if the newsfeeds were exploding with breaking news back on Biesel of an actual revolution going on, making the station an extension of bigger events. Then, we wouldn't even have to change the gamemode name, and people would have a reason to try to mutiny. EDIT: Shit, this is giving me ideas. I might go make a suggestion and include sample news articles.
  15. The inssstanccesss might be connected. I'll pay your fine if the guardsss cannot be reasssoned with. Thisss isss my bessst lead.
  16. Proof the DO corps are devils and Owen is part of the Illuminati. I tried to join as a whistleblower, but it's too late. You all let this happen.
  17. To me, the all might bwoink is extremely helpful. It's a surefire way for administrators and moderators to get a hold of those without audible deficiencies, and it even gets their attention since they're bwoinked when you send ahelps. Personally, I'm a fan of it.
  18. To be completely fair, I don't think someone has to be a good roleplayer to be a good wiki dev, not that I can rate those abilities given my very limited interaction with the player. I think having someone posting guides would be novel and nice, with my only concern being that I'm not aware of any differences we have from Bay's current guides. If staff think we need one, then I say by all means.
  19. Personally, I prefer the sluggish pace of correlating go real time. That isn't to say that the alternative is inherently bad, but here are the issues which make me want to stick with our current time passage: 1. A minor thing, but dating paperwork and events. It's really convenient that IRs and paperwork are rooted in real time, because it makes it very easy to point to the days they're signed. There's probably a work around for this, honestly. 2. Holidays. There's something awfully novel about getting on during a holiday and it being that holiday in game. The experience would be a bit cheapened by accelerating the passage of time, since it's be Christmas every so many days, etc. Maybe I'm the only one who cares about this, though, I'm a festive guy. 3. Birthdays. Aging a year every few days would be kind of annoying, and I think it gets in the way of the personal Canon of characters. Sure, people manipulate their ages rather arbitrarily as it stands, but typically just to scale them forward. Scaling backward would be a bit unnatural, as you would have to keep changing the dates in your records to keep yourself young if you wanted a persistent character. Again, maybe everyone else is fine with this/maybe potential workarounds, but I like aging along with my character's in real time, makes their birthdays really special to me. Again, these points don't make it empirically bad to accelerate time until we reach a comfortable velocity, it would make lore progression happen more quickly and give the lore tram more to work with, but I'm pretty fond of how slow-paced our lore progression is, it makes big events feel really impactful to me. These are just the reasons why this noob would prefer not to play with the time, feel free to call me out on my bad opinions.
  20. I will lay out here a treatise on why the removal of cloning is a bad idea. 1. Not everyone has records. In fact, majority of people don't have records. It has never been a requirement to play on this server to have records, even a lot of heads of staff have blank records. Just like access to the forums is not required to be an active player on our server, neither is spending the time to write out one's employment records. 2. People already smash the F1 key upon being killed by an antagonist, but this is often reconciled with the fact that upon death, you're not out of the round forever. A lot of antags kill people, but it's usually all right because they can be cloned later. In a respawn-less environment, being killed with a welderbomb at the 30 minute mark means you're out. Being capped by a merc or nukeop, and your out. Fireballed by a wizard, out. Even if properly RP'd so as not to be gank, death against your will be an antagonist is still a common occurence, especially for security. Cloning is a major ball in the court of non-antags, and more than once, security has sprung back after annihilation thanks to the cloning pods. Without them, crew have to choose between being permanently dead, and being a robotic slave to a mega corporation for life. 3. Canonical deaths. Believe it or not, there's a lot of death in extended. The occasional bald will go down disposals, a viral outbreak will occur ravaging the crew to death, the still insanely aggressive slimes in xenobiology will get loose and kill, and toxins tests can go wrong and cause leakage. Anomalists and Xenoarchs can sometimes get instantly killed on the job, just for doing seemingly benign experiments on seemingly innocuous objects. Death happens surprisingly often, and some extended rounds can rack up serious death tolls. Imagine if all those deaths were irrevocable, it would be terrible. Most people on the station aren't rich, and so, they would just remain dead. Forever. There was a funeral once for someone who had DNC and DNB in their records, and all though it was heart-wrenching fantastic RP, it would become nigh on impossible to have stable recurring characters who aren't rich if cloning was made into a rare and expensive process. Most people don't want to lose their characters permanently, and they don't want other's characters they like to be lost permanently. All in all, I think this would cause a lot of grief and woe in a bad way rather than a good one. People would be far more willing to fling character complaints and salt if their deaths took them out of a round for good. The coffin and respawn as a new character idea is interesting, but aside from myself and a small handful of others, chaplains who actually do chaplain things are insanely rare. More often than not, their bald and new and doing random things around the station or being generally super weird, and there's only one slot for the job. No one has respect for chaplains, and most can't be trusted to carry out this funeral task.
