"Men of NanoTrasen" 2461 Promotional Calendar!
Fox009 replied to Synnono's topic in NanoTrasen Public Network
Name: Nicholas Flack Species: Human Age: 24 Date of Hire: 2/15/2458 Job Title: Security Officer Preferred Contact Info: NFlack@NTMail.net -
I would like to see a greater variety of firearms and would even help to contribute them. However, on another note, we probably shouldn't be replacing anything just for the sake of replacing things.

Unmap the nurse outfits from the medical closets.
Fox009 replied to Scheveningen's topic in Completed Projects
I personally enjoy seeing a variety of uniform and clothing options for each department. Not really any reason to replace it unless someone were to re-sprite the default nurses uniform to look more appropriate. -
I believe this happened like four days ago. It was pretty silly. That being said, let’s be careful not to overreact here.

Defibs are not in our code, we don't even have a single defib. No snowflake 'you're not dead despite the fact you just died!' device plz. Chemistry has a button in their lab that opens that double door, this is to stop people from walking up and annoying the shit out of them without a reason. The front reception desk can also open the door for you. Just ask, communicate, stop being god damn lazy plz everyone. I understand defibs not being in the code, that’s too bad. I do feel it would add some more to medbay. And they do exist in real life. As for chemistry, it’s just a bottleneck that isn’t necessary. There are too many doors in medbay as is and these two are just unnecessary. This is especially true when medbay isn’t populated and nobody is manning the desk. I just feel like it should be accessible.
-
I vote #2. I wouldn’t mind more Security uniform variety, maybe we could just remove that completely black inform? But i’d Rather see security jackets before kilts. Also, a number of the current uniforms still don’t have roll’ed-up sleeves or roll down jumpsuit versions of them yet.

Yeah, I had a round the other day where apparently the Captain was relieved of command and told to stand down by ERT and it was just silly. It doesn’t lend to good or productive RP. The Captain should be helping the ERT and guiding them. They can keep most of their authority but relieving the Captain is just bad design. Unless the Captain broke the law and was arrested then the Captain can suffer the consequences after the shift is over.

Security - The Detective and CSI could us a belt to help carry a few things. - The Forensics Section in Security should allow any security personnel to pass through for RP reasons, to deliver evidence, to chat, and to help out. - The new Security training section might as well connect to Fornesics Section by a small hallway rather then a maintenance tunnel. - Security could use a restroom with a shower, especially now that they have a functional gym! - The old firing range could House the formentioned bathroom and you could expand the security locker room a bit. Medbay - The medbay door buttons do not work for non-medbay personnel. You must wait for someone to let you out... which can take a while. - Chemistry desk is no longer accessible to the public because of the double doors. Might want to just remove those. - The main medbay enterance area (with the scanners) could probably use a 1-tile extension, this would definately help during emergencies and triage. - Also, I definately 2nd a defibrillator being added, you should have some chance of recovering a dead player without cloning if you can treat them quickly enough.
-
I think this would definately be a nice little useful addition and I believe it’d be like one line of code to implement too. At the very least it’d make for cool fluff that helps organization.
-
Nah, definitely check out RimWorld. There is a lot there, especially now that it's out on STEAM and with workshop support. We should start a thread up for people to submit their character for the Prepare Carefully mod and have a bit Aurora colony and see who lives and who dies.
-
The Guild is a pretty fun game, I used to play the crap out of it back in the day. I believe they're working on a sequel right now, don't know when it's to be released... I just hope it's good and doesn't have too many bugs. The Guild 2, even fully patched and with mod fixes, just wasn't really stable enough for any extended multiplayer matches.
-
I like the idea, in theory, but I just don't think it'll work well in practice. Also, how much work would this honestly take to implement? I'd imagine quite a bit.
-
I think redsec works good for other servers where security is more combat oriented and tyrannical whereas Aurora sticks to SoP more and has a lot more IIA oversight making security a bit more 'friendly' then else-ware. Should be a good fit I'd like to see.

Lore Developer Application (Human) - Chaznoodles
Fox009 replied to Chaznoodles's topic in Developer Applications Archives
How open would you be to taking input when developing human military, security, and policing organizations? -
How most of our off-station time is spent with Officer Lance R. Flack. He's up to 12 recorded deaths now. At this point he is starting to die for absolutely no reason. We commissioned an artist to draw him, here's what he came up with!
-
I believe that Yoiko was probably the first to really chat and socialize with the Lance brothers. He seems like a well developed character and a fellow Martian with strong beliefs. I love it when people play their origins and it influences their character.

Background and bio is up for Nicholas, we'll get one up for Lance probably tonight. Nicholas Flack Bio Lance R. Flack (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

NAME: Nicholas J. Flack DATE OF BIRTH: May 11, 2437 AGE: 21 SPECIES: Human SEX: Male CITIZENSHIP: Mars / Sol Alliance CLEARANCE LEVEL: Security Department EMPLOYED AS: Security Officer Level 1 PHOTO: HEIGHT: 178 cm (5'10") WEIGHT: 62.14 kg (137 lb) HAIR: Dark 'dirty' blond EYES: Light blue BACKGROUND STORY: Nicholas was born the 1st child of a Police Officer and a Waitress in Olympia, Mars. Raised with his younger brother, Lance, they are very close but live very different lives. Nicholas was always an exemplary student in academics, often excelling in various subjects. However, unlike his brother, he wasn't very involved in athletics. As children Nicholas and Lance were often found running around, exploring the arcology, and otherwise getting into some sort of trouble. However, into their teens Nicholas spent much of his time studying rather than running with his brother. Still, they maintained a close friendship despite conflicting interests. When Lance left for political rallies Nicholas was engaging in extra-curricular activities. He started to work on his school newspaper and, within a year, became the editor of the newspaper, a paid position. While Lance's activists were based in emotion, passion, and propaganda Nicholas was focused on unbias, professionalism, and intellectualism. Because of this rift in philosophy a divide started to emerge between Nicholas and Lance, often exposed in their work. However, they both shared a certain distrust of aliens given their time on Mars and a number of encounters. After graduating from school Nicholas was recruited by NT at a job fair and joined the security department at the suggestion of his father. After completing training he was assigned as a Cadet to the 'NSS Baldr' where he served until promoted to a full Security Officer Level 1 and transferred to the NSS Aurora. The operations aboard the Aurora are a shock to him as he often finds the crew unprofessional, insubordinate, and downright incompetent. He is trying to transfer to another station but his transfers are being denied. As a result, Nicholas is known to document everything he encounters both for his protection and the protection of others, this has paid off given the number of complaints against him and the times IIA has investigated these complaints. Nicholas worked hard to get his brother hired on to NT as he thought he could keep an eye on him and get him away from the corruption and vitriol on Mars. However, after being severely injured following a prison riot based 'humanist' philosophies that his brother aided in he has come to reconsider that decision. Nicholas aided in the subduing and arrest of his brother, he claims it saved his life. Months later they put it behind them when they struggled to survive together when the crew turned on one another forming dangerous factions, Nicholas was proud of his brother who saved lives that day. Nick believes that so long as Lance's politics are kept in check and he remains impartial he will make a good officer but knows that there is darkness in Lance's heart and fears for when it is released. Besides working on the 'NSS Aurora' he goes to school part-time at Mendell University on Biesel and is working on obtaining a Bachelor's Degree to help further his career with NanoTrasen or else ware. Due to his management experience, attention to detail, and writing skills he has begun to be scheduled as Warden and is training as a Detective. Will he remain with NT or seek opportunities in other places? Only time will tell! ROLEPLAY FOCUS: Initially, I made Flack for a distant future IIA character but after we added his brother, did their background, and the result of event's in-game he's not going anywhere NEAR that path. Right now he's just a younger character trying to do his job, make money for school, and learn more. He's the hardworking, more patient, reliable, and thoughtful one when compared to his brother but, reportedly, less social as a result of this. If the trend continues it's likely he'll probably become more like his brother... and an alcoholic. CHARACTER RECORDS GENERAL NOTES: Born in Olympia City on Mars he has had a number of previous part-time jobs including being the editor of a local newspaper and attended a university in Sol. He is currently working with NanoTrasen to "pay his way" through his remaining schooling. At his university he was studying law, history, and politics and received exceptional grades. Has been hired by NanoTrasen to work as a Security Officer with the intent for Lance to pay for his own schooling while serving NanoTrasen. MEDICAL NOTES: Has above average cardio and is regarded in 'good' health. EMPLOYMENT SECURITY MEDICAL Thanks! Give feedback on the brothers here.

Maybe it'll reduce the flack he gets from that dress. Also, nice Sprite, looks good.
-
Yeah, it seems like most clothing is missing the rolled state, which is sad. We should do a rolling pass or something on clothing. No reason not to have them fixed as it's usually a similar Sprite and one line of code linking it. Easy.
-
You might be able to argue that for one or two of my early weapon sprites, the Marine armor (based on normal armor), and possibley the security jacket but everything else is completely original. I'd also like to ask exactly what a "recolor" is as these sprites are only 32x32 bits, we're not talking Picasso level stuff here. All of the clothing, for example, should be based on the same base model, the human body, there isn't much you can re-invent there.
-
I've got probably a 40 or 50 page development document so I'll just post some snippets. You'll also probably just love the Imgur Album I've got here... http://imgur.com/a/JCPN6#0 (More sprite previews too!) Welcome Message: The Federation has recently acquired a distant space station from a slightly corrupt corporation in the distant Gamma quadrant of the galaxy. Previously unexplored and uncharted this realm is dangerous, mysterious, and unknown. The Federation intends Deep Space 13 to be a gateway onward for exploring vessels. Plot The game takes place sometime shortly after TNG, DS9, and Voyager where the Federation discovers a new and unexplored area of space on the outer reaches of Federation explored territory. As the welcoming says they manage to acquire this old space station (designated 'Deep Space 13') from a 'corrupt corporation', a reference to NanoTrasen. Basically, this is based in an alternate SS13/Star Trek universe where NT is having major financial troubles and the Federation makes contact with them and purchases their station. It'd be pretty similar to DS9 in that respect with NT often playing as counter to Federation interests but not as outright antags. The station is in range of a planet named Feyd-Rautha. A somewhat barren world it does support life but not without adaptation, all of the colonists and visitors are required to have breathing apparatuses to survive on the surface. Formerly run as a NT mining colony it now functions as the Federation's main colony in the sector having been colonized by Federation colonists who recently arrived. Story Snippet: Code: The server was based on the Apollo code-base because of their fancy Z-level ships. Theoretically, you could use that an play the game entirely in a starship rather then on a station. The pods also work great for shuttles. Intent: Intended as a HRP Star Trek experience it'd have to be gradually converted from your normal SS13 enviroment to more of a Star Trek one. My hopes would be to get coders and mappers who could add more features then my limited abilities to include warp engines, better transporters, ship combat, away missions, randomly generated missions, better NPCs. That being said, it functions as-is, just not as I'd like it to. Because of that I haven't really gone public with it for any extended period of time. Cool Images

Good point. What Tau Ceti political groups do we have? I know nothing about them. We could start with ATLAS, Tau Ceti Republicans and Democrats, and UTOPIA. Just need colors and a little image to represent them (or making it up).
-
According to the wiki lore we have four major Sol parties: GAIA, ATLAS, Workers Party, and Utopian Front. Source: https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sol_Alliance I know we also have a couple other non-Sol based ones including one for synthetics. We shouldn't JUST do ATLAS but we need concepts and colors for the other parties. Also, would ATLAS use a red armband? Should it be brown? Then maybe Workers can use red. Was thinking Utopian Front could be white or maybe light blue. Quite frankly, the spriting and coding should be easy once the concepts are down.

I think Lance is a pretty decent guy when politics doesn't get in the way. That being said, he gets hurt and killed FAR too often. Am I right?! We'll put up bios for them soon. Glad everyone is enjoying them. Still waiting for the people Nicholas has arrested to come here and... give us some Flack.
