a dedicated room for shields is a good idea - its a common trope which seems to be missing on our station However the shields themselves need a bit of reworking first, the way they currently work is fairly buggy As to location, i'm not certain on an exact spot, but it needs to be somewhere near engineering and near the centre of the station. Shields are, and should remain, the domain of engineering, due to the logistical requirements of the power draw

this idea has been administratively vetoed

Not that this is a bad idea, but the station isn't really big enough to need a transport system. It's <500m in diameter And with the new map in future, its expanding vertically, not spreading out, so we'll have even less use for such a thing

maybe, but which? already exists better how? Not happening. Things use too little power as is unnecesssary isn't the RPED already instant? How does this work? This is good, i agree

Xenobotany/Hydroponics - Quality of life, minor improvement.

I've had similar thoughts. i will do this. -
not too hard to do, ill add this to a list
-
fwiw, this would be very hard and a lot of work to implement. It'd require a whole new pipe network laid in every part of the station. I don't know whether its worth it, but it won't be easy to accomplish

Sprinting was updated last night, i'm interested in any other feedback relating to it
-
Yes you're completely wrong. Tajarans aren't runners at all, they come from an icy planet where conserving energy is vital for survival, their sprint is worse than almost everyone else because they're meant to keep a steady pace over long periods. It's a counterpoint to their naturally faster walking speed.

This has now been implemented, congrats

you're going to have to be more specific, what does this post even mean ? are you reporting a bug? I need more details

try to keep things constructive guys. I will tweak things based on feedback. Values will be adjusted, no mechanics are going to be entirely removed. @jboy, i don't play on any other servers, and don't know or care what they have, my developments aren't based on them or being different to them. Sprinting has been requested before: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5969 The system is also intended to act as a compromise between those who feel our movement speeds are too slow, and those that find the slower pace suits RP better. Sprinting was intentionally limited and conservative to avoid upsetting the RP environment too much. I will relax things a bit. @Chaz That's what it adds to gameplay, and it removes nothing. No functionality is lost. If you don't like it in its current state, you don't need to use it for now. I went to great pains to ensure the speed which is now 'walk' is the same as the speed that used to be called 'run', and added a way to limit your speed if you want to move slower than what walk offers. @Fiskap: Hunger will probably be reduced a bit, i'm not removing that mechanic though. I've already been thanked by several chef players for giving them more usefulness and involvement as a result. Feedback is valued, please continue posting. The design will be iterated gradually according to community wishes. I'll be pushing a hotfix to tweak values and fix some bugs with the system, sometime in the next 1-3 days. Your thoughts are appreciated

Post here your feedback about the sprinting system. Post not only your own thoughts, but also read and respond to any other posts here. I'd like to gather a range of opinions before making changes, as some parts are divisive.

alt title and engineer access seems good. I dont see a need for anything deeper than that.

IC submissions are good, and i heartily welcome that. But not ingame, that would require coding up a complicated new system, and i'm just getting to grips with databases for now. We have RP forums here. As an RD, why not gather reports from your staff and post them in such a plce, or in the submissions thread. SAMPLe used to do a lot of that kind of thing! The submission thread is open to anyone, though submissions will go through staff approval

there's plenty of scope for mystery in many interactions and well-designed mechanics, that doesn't mean everything has to be nebulous. Anyone can make a mystery, you just have to do nothing. Making actual content to discover is more interesting, and would provide a semi-tangible reward to encourage this mechanic, and thus to research deeper into the game

I read that page a few weeks ago. My thoughts are a firm 'fuck no.' I'm not touching that mess, its a huge arcane labyrinth of mechanics. It looks like a group of people spent several years working on it day after day as a snowflake project. I have no opinion on anyone else porting it, but I'm opting out.

This thread is for content submissions. To discuss the system please post in this thread: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7349&p=71781#p71781 As part of an interesting project for xenobiology, which will later be part of something larger, i'm interested in textual information about creatures. Organic lifeforms only. Anything from cats to giant spiders, to bluespace bears, facehuggers, nymphs, whatever. This also includes humanoid playable species. Only things which actually exist in the game are suitable here though. Creatures that exist in lore, but can't be spawned somehow, aren't of interest. However rare creatures that only come from adminspawning are very suitable. I'm interested in medium-to-long, interesting descriptions of any of the creatures we have on the station. Roughly 50-300 words Notably including a latin -sounding scientific name, information about the creature's origins, feeding and breeding habits, dangers they pose in combat, weaknesses, etc. Information about ingame mechanics - things that can be used to gain an advantage over this creature, are most desireable. Essentially, i'm creating a sort of ingame bestiary Most notably, every description must be divided into three parts, which will be gradually unlocked. So make sure it fits into three neat segments or paragraphs. This isn't really an indepth or historical analysis. Descriptions submitted should be from a combination of three perspectives: 1. A scientific/biological analysis, describe it as a lifeform. 2. A military/tactical analysis, how do you kill it, avoid it, or otherwise defend against it. Where did it come from? 3. A caretaking analysis, what environment does it live in, how do you keep it alive in captivity (note this doesnt necessarily mean one paragraph per viewpoint, just a guideline on what kind of info) Lore writers are highly encouraged to contribute information about their own species and any relevant subspecies I reserve the right to tweak, modify or not-use any submitted content. Posting here is no guarantee of inclusion as-submitted, or at all. Also, i claim mice.

I disagree, it increases it. Right now you drag something to sceiince? Xenobio has no idea what it is, can't learn about it. They either go 'lol dunno boss' or make up something that has no relevance to science, Making things up is not science. It's a field of discovery and learning, even simulated science should be about learning and discovering things. By definition, you are learning nothing if you are writing the book personally. Having things 'set in stone' as you call it, is just lore for everyone else. We know that tajarans live on a cold world, we know that unathi are lizards from a post apocalyptic desert planet, and we know about a variety of wildlife on their homeworld: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6435&p=63984p63988 Do you think it would be better if they were just 'scary lizardpeople from somewhere?' No, thats what every other server has. Things have little or no lore, so you're free to make up anything you want about them. What actually happens in practise is that people don't do that, they don't care about lore. They're just 'lol lizardpeople' The same applies here. Look at the space carp or the spiders, or the slimes. People have long since stopped caring about what they are, they're just things to breed or kill. With this project i'm inviting people to write their own lore for things. I'm ENCOURAGING that creativity you seem to think i'm reducing What slimes are has been set in stone for a while, they're semi-biological bluespace entities. I've already reinforced this with devouring code that puts them in a category where they can't be eaten by organic-eating things Creating lore for your universe does not reduce roleplay, it increases it, massively. Thats the reason we HAVE lore writing staff in the fiirst place. If mystery and vagueness were so important, we could just fire them all. Specific and detailed lore about various creatures, places and concepts,is what makes aurora unique Where was this moral panic when people were writting the above unathi animals thread? The plain tyrant is ingame, and it has a defined biology, habitat, breeding cycle and personality. Nobody complained about that. There's more roleplay to be had in a world where things can actually be discovered and learned about. And you can tell your coworkers and underlings about your findings I've created this thread as a place to encourage creativity. This thread is literally a creative writing contest, and you guys are trying to shut it down in the name of 'protecting creativity' ? look at what you're doing for a moment, please. I've paged all the lore staff to this thread - the actual people responsible for writing our lore-, and several of them have expressed an interest in contributing. This isn't some thing i'm doing to steal away lore, it's a lore related project that i'm working on WITH the people we trust to write our lore. And lastly, i never said anything was being set in stone. Lore about a creature can change as surely as any other, these things are often revised and retconned over time

I'm not dictating anything, this thread exists for the players to publish that information and post their own thoughts on various creatures. The information is unlocked as a reward for gathering and experimenting on specimens. this is not spoonfeeding. Please don't turn my thread into a big argument
