  1. I didn't get hostile, interpreting what I say as hostile for responding to your idea of that 'borgs should simply avoid damage if they don't want to sit in perma-crit is not getting hostile. No, the roboticist who wants to do their job has their round ruined if a 'borg ghosts no matter what, they can't repair them, they can't take their brain out and play with it, they can't spiderbot you, nothing. This is only because a 'borg doesn't actually die when they ghost, they ghost. This means, currently, a 'borg who actually cares about the roboticists fun won't ghost, they would sit and wait. A 'borg who cares about roleplay wouldn't ghost even if they didn't care about the roboticist. Note, as well, the spiderbot thing was an idea, I even outright stated it wasn't set in stone. A third option could be as simple as enabling 'borgs to succumb. But there is going to be a third option coded.
  2. Okay, I am going to make a third option and I am going to PR a third option onto the github, every other species dies in crit and can watch the game. The fact that 'borgs sit in perma crit or ruin the roboticists round by ghosting is frankly mechanically ridiculous and the complacency towards it is equally so. If you have a problem with players of the game not being stuck staring at a blank screen for an hour, that's your problem.
  3. This is in response to either the Arachnotrons (I'd only lightly change them, potentially) or the spiderbots that are made in robotics that are just a brain + legs, I floated the idea of having a 'borg, when disabled, be able to detach its brain into a spiderbot so that 'borgos aren't stuck for like 20 years in perma-crit, but gave the impression I might resprite them. Nothing in stone at all, nor to what capacity exactly I would, or if I'd make that rework of borg death in general, but for sure something has to be done to fix the perma-crit issue. A 'borg can't just be given the choice of sitting in perma crit permanently or using the ghost verb, ghosting, and being forced to give up their character entirely, even if someone repairs them down the road. There needs to be a third option, some gameplay mechanic like this, or being able to succumb and if repaired, re-enter their body.
  4. Edit: Also thank you very much for the input/feedback! The bordering the line of hostility is due to how Marlon was treated in their Deputy Unathi developer app which was incredibly unjustified, a large number of people there had no examples of problems with Marlon in the past (6 years of time on Staff), and the reason I was focused on getting examples from other people in the Marlon app and informing about Marlons contributions/history as a maintainer is exactly because of that. Notice my responses to Marlons deputy Unathi dev app, and you will see they were muuuch different, a lot less focused, and overall much more friendly and less annoyed. You will also notice that I took efforts to ensure that my responses remained friendly, so I was very much taking responsibility for myself. As for me leaving Aurora, I left for a multitude of reasons, one of which is that I was mentally unhinged due to the effects of the Corona virus pandemic, this lead to one of the few 'Brawls' I've ever had with anyone in Aurora history, with @Coalf, whom I apologized to at the same time as leaving. When my head was cleared and I thought I'd be fine, I came back. This can't be expected to occur again, the year in question I had multiple family members die from the pandemic ontop of one of my aunts who had raised me going through liver failure and dying, that is an INCREDIBLY specific and extenuating circumstance for mental grief. All of this together, it'll be clear that it's actually amazing that I was as well put together as I was. In my time away and while grieving etc I also studied coding and directed the time I was spending on Aurora to developing an indie game but that's kinda unrelated. I didn't want to reveal most of this to anyone so the best thing I could do is post saying that I was fine and thanking everyone for my time on the server and to apologize to the person I wronged, that's the whole story. Minding all of this, two things you've said don't really make much sense. The 'I'm leaving you Aurora', post, is better understood as a 'Thank you, Aurora, please take care', if you take the time to read it (See it here). The mentioning of 'Brawls' in that way is very odd, considering I've had very few things that could be considered a 'Brawl' for the entire time I've been on the server, but there were afew, at least.
  5. Even if you were only deputy Loremaster for long enough to solve these core issues that Marlon also sought to solve with their app, that are clearly present and dragging down the entire servers' atmosphere and Lore, I +1.
  6. Thank you v. much for the feedback, yes, colorful is the correct word. 'Borgs are supposed to be as personable as IPCs, they have the same brains in many cases (Androids). People are free to play them as true personalities similar to IPCs, or they are free to play them as robotic servants of the Station. Both approaches work for 'borg gameplay and exist in the Lore, my 'Borg is very robotic as well, but they don't view their laws as 'Slavery' or 'Service to the Station', they view it similar to how a Secret Service Operative would view it, they were given missions, their laws are their missions, and they use their capabilities to achieve those missions. As you can see, there is a lot of diversity in how a 'borg can view their laws, the thing is, their personality has to be conducive to it and actively achieve it, that's about it. In regards to the term COLOR explicitly, I don't mean colorful in a personable sense at all, I used personable for that. I mean colorful as in, rework their colors to be less dry and with more variance in the colors used, obviously this still is limited to their department colors, but we can add more colors alongside the department colors to make them vibe more with the design direction that the Station has gone. The TLDR: Borgs are Station characters, they are expected to roleplay, they are given tools to roleplay, they are not maintenance drones. They are capable of viewing their laws differently, they just must have a personality that doesn't violate their laws and they must follow them. Borgs can be robotic or human-like, colorful meant updating their colors. I DESIGNED their color schemes, and I'm not happy with them. This should clear up your concerns,
  7. I like Haydizzle and it wouldn't bother me to see them elevated to Deputy Loremaster, however I would expect their activity to raise exponentially for the promotion, Haydizzle, maybe it'd be good to go into detail on how you intend to do the things you propose, What kind of events would you like to run in round? How often? On interspecies relations and the like, a place I could see really needing expansion is the moon in orbit of Moghes, would you go into detail on how the Skrell and Unathi live together there? How would you tie marriage/megacorps etc to other species? I would personally love to see a Jargon sponsored megacorp or two, that works in tandem or as a subsidiary of a human megacorp, that'd be cool. But what do you already have planned? Either way, it's a +1
  8. A core problem with the common theme of your reply is you seem to think consistency is being in the past -- It's not. Consistent Lore is what makes the gameworld believable and easy to get immersed in, in this sense, some core rules absolutely does push us towards progress. It gives us something to write around that keeps the Lore consistent around us. Also, Old Lore is used constantly on a daily basis, most regular characters have incorporated some form of Lore that is a half year-full year old into their character, even if in a minor way. New Lore at times can take a week or longer to be properly incorporated into characters. This idea that 'Old Lore is useless!' does not reflect the ingame reality, at all. Also your entire reply is incredibly aggressive and patronizing and you should *really* introspect on the start where you argue peoples input is 'Flimsy' because it addresses someone criticising anothers character, you should check yourself on that. Edit^ I do think this is true in a way, but I shouldn't have said this and I'm sorry for doing so.
  9. Out of the things you've suggested, these are the most important to me. For 2; There should be no 'Practically non-canon', It should be Canon or non-Canon, no inbetween, and the canonized/non-canonized apps should be clearly within the forum where all players can easily find them, I understand this is just because of an access bug, so it should be easy to fix, but the 'Practically non-canon' trend should really be done away with, it's so negative to the server and lore. For 3; Right now, FTL and Phoron can change in qualities very often, we know what Bluespace does (Teleportation) but it's still constantly used for other things it shouldn't be, a lot of this stuff really *really* does need to be nailed down, and it isn't. There's a saying, creativity comes from restrictions, this is one of those cases, we need some hard restrictions (limits) on what Phoron, Bluespace, and FTL can achieve and for our writers to write within that basis. For 6; Civility is enforced already, but it's a Staff should be held to a higher standard than the simple 'Don't be a dick', they are, of course, allowed to dislike Lore and changes, but actively insulting the person who wrote it and ignoring the effort that went into writing the content in question, and of course the current weird abrasiveness for simply asking if something is still canon, that's unacceptable.
  10. This is fair yup but please be aware that us like me and garn and others who have been here since 2013 or earlier (I'm OLD) have seen Marlon in action, so our opinion is based on our experiences and his former work because of that. Editing to make it clear that I think your stance is very reasonable, you just don't have the same experiences to make a decision, that's super reasonable!
  11. It's okay, thank you for the examples, let's see Marlon explain this stuff to us then.
  12. Please post examples, because a lot of the people here haven't experienced anything like what you're implying, including me.
  13. That's not how this works -- You just made an accusation about Marlons character. He gets to respond to your accusation and apologize/stand by what he said to you.
  14. I guess one thing that might help Danse move past this would be to say how you feel about what you said, do you stand behind what you said to him, or do you agree with him that you shouldn't have said that, and will try to avoid making such inflammatory accusations in the future?
  15. Thank you, I seemed to have missed it.
  16. It would be good to make it clear that you replaced the Quartermaster with the Service Manager if you did, I don't see a mention of replacing it at all, and the QM/SM together will be far too much.
  17. Ckey/BYOND Username: chada1 Position Being Applied For: (Wiki Maintainer, Lore Developer, Deputy Lore developer): Wiki Maintainer Have you read the Lore Team Rules and Regulations wiki page?: YESSSS, I had a big part in the wiki teams creation and stuff. Past Experiences/Knowledge: Well, I was the wiki manager for 2 years, I worked extensively on the wiki, it's hard to find a page that doesn't have my name in the edit history, I've also been studying coding in my hiatus and maybe I'll be able to work up some CSS changes if we need them, there's not much else to say past this. Examples of Past Work: If this is required, I will provide some, but like, most of the wiki was developed by me in some way. The modern frontpage, while not created by me, was an improvement of my former wiki page, the Aurora starmap was an improvement in the same way, as well. Much of my work has been improved upon, but I've set some basic examples. Additional Comments: I have no desire to resume wiki management, I need to make this absolutely clear. I would like that to remain with whoever has it right now, so don't think of me joining as trying to take my position back either. I left the wiki team because I was stressed out from management and I don't want to repeat that. I'd much prefer to remain as just a wiki team member. I'm not applying to take on tons of work, basically, but to help Aurora, and I know in NBT Auroras going to need all the help it can get in wiki maint.
  18. I am sorry if I came off as mean or anything, thank you for reading, and I'd love to talk on Discord or some such about what I'm saying and help you see a picture of how Aurora was at the start if you'd like, and I agree there are a lot of articles that could stand to be retconned.
  19. I see, thank you for posting, this needs to be fixed then, as it gives the impression that no article has been de-canonized at all. I also edited my post to reflect this information, the whole half about de-canonization etc has been removed. It's still there, but in a way that it is clearly separated.
  20. Absolute +1, and hostility towards Marlon is Incredibly unjustified, if you're going to be hostile and condescending towards Marlon when they try to take a friendly and cooperative hands-off assisting role with the newer Staff, 'Because they used to be Loremaster and their lore is omnipresent and changed all over Aurora', you shouldn't be surprised when they apply for a Loremaster position again. Marlon has CREATED the framework for Aurora Lore. There is no Aurora Lore in its current state without Marlon. There is a framework in place for Retconning already, it just isn't properly used, and the fact that Lore developers are outright ignoring those frameworks as Desven just said is **COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE**, as it doesn't give players any way to tell what is retconned and what isn't. <= This isn't true -- Many articles have been retconned it seems, these changes just aren't present on the forum outside of the articles being hidden. Afew things, not everything, is still a bit misguided, maybe my mind will be changed with further responses. Let's start with block 1. Block 1; You don't seem to recognize that when Marlon was first selected as Loremaster, he was building Aurora Lore from the ground up. Nothing that exists right now existed in near any form when they began their tenure as Loremaster, there wasn't any such thing as 'ingame lore' vs 'out of game lore' outside of Crew species. The entire existence of ingame lore representation vs wiki/non-ingame lore representation was a movement created by Marlon to address the problems you're speaking of. If you think that Old Lore had no 'Sense of continuity' you should see the disconnect between Lore and Gameplay when Marlon first started, and Aurora was using a form of ancient bastardized Baystation that nothing in Lore was represented ingame. Marlon has actually drastically reduced the amount of Lore items that don't have some impact of representation ingame in that time period, and actively created events that would bring Lore outside of the Station to it. The entire event system we have today was put into place by Marlon. TLDR on Block 1, all of these problems existed before Marlons tenure, and he enacted basic fixes that continue to bring Lore to the Station today, with what little information he had available at the time, his fixes were the first implemented by anyone, foresight is 20/20. Let's move to Block 2. If you want all new Political parties and don't want to reference the old ones at all, retcon them. When someone comes along and asks 'Does this even exist anymore?' don't be hostile to them for asking, since many peoples characters, especially for the older players, have long time ties to those parties, and of course they'll ask as a player (Marlon was a player at the time asking about Lore for one of their characters....? What's the problem there at all?) if there's been any changes to them when they come back from a hiatus. This is a non-problem you're speaking about, everyone does this. If you came from from a hiatus from the server, you'd do this too. Coming up with new political parties isn't the problem, but the old ones can't just be swept away when so many characters are based on them, they have to be addressed in some manner, retconned or merged into the new ones, that kind of stuff, otherwise, expect people to ask about them if one of their characters are somehow related to them. Removed Block 3 after Caelphons response.
  21. I've decided to take on this as a project and will update the 'borg tools to be more aggressive for the traitor 'borgs, let's see how this goes. (No multipurpose gripper, tho)
  22. We removed Security 'borgs and Combat 'borgs because they encouraged 'borgs to kill and/or interpret their laws to immediately rush into danger and destroy RP. We can give the other modules tools to make them more dangerous, (Specifically traitor ones I mean) but on my watch, I will use every bit of clout possible to prevent Security or Combat 'borgs from ever returning.
  23. Another possible solution to the unable to restrain people is to give traitor 'borgs (Along with their other hacked items) cable cuffs, it would be flavorful to have robots use wires to restrain people and be more positive for roleplay/gameplay. The 'borg could actually make demands and stuff.
  24. I love everything about this, all of the raiders are so creative and the writing style is very adorable.
  25. Personable in this context means feeling as if it is really there, as a mechanical being, Atmosphere. The feeling like "yeah, this big robot is standing right there." -- Not necessarily empathetic and human. Keep in mind. Stuff like the sounds, processing, light engine revving when starting up ,any number of stuff, please compile a list of ideas if you can. 👀 I don't want 'borgs to be humanoid, I love that they're non-humanoid, even when they can have a human-like personality, or can simply not.
