UnknownMurder Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 This is going to be a small and short suggestion. I'd like to propose to add catwalks to each department ceilings (construction level Z) like how it's done for medical bay lobby. It can create a new breed of stealth for those people who wants to escape without getting caught or hide. Alternatively, it is another way for certain antagonists to gather and meet up if done right.
DronzTheWolf Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 This is going to be a small and short suggestion. I'd like to propose to add catwalks to each department ceilings (construction level Z) like how it's done for medical bay lobby. It can create a new breed of stealth for those people who wants to escape without getting caught or hide. Alternatively, it is another way for certain antagonists to gather and meet up if done right. I was thinking of this very thing when I was in the Medical catwalk hiding, why isn't this everywhere? It has so much potential and added verticality. The more vertical we get, the better.
Scheveningen Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 There's nothing connecting anything any of the lobbies short of the medical lobby due to its connection to the psych ward. Up or down leads to solid asteroid rock only, outside of the medical level. . . Contrast with medical, which only has catwalks above it for purely aesthetic purposes and not actually to support the ceiling or anything since the catwalk area can't be accessed without a jetpack or breaking windows. . . The overlook from the psych ward is not there for any other purpose than for aesthetic. Is maintenance not good enough for hiding? Or build your own metal hut out in space or something. It's impractical to add similar sunroof-like structures above the lobbies. Only people with jetpacks are going to make use of it.
Bauser Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 It is also accessible via ladder which I only know because it's how I cleaned the windows up there on slow rounds and you can pull up the ladder once you're there, so that increases its potential as a hiding spot
DronzTheWolf Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 You forget that not only do ladders exist, but the ability to climb. If you add a wall, and give it space, suddenly you can climb up, too.
Scheveningen Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 That didn't really change what I said. There is nothing above each of the other departmental lobbies to justify similar 'sunroofs.'
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Great idea! More nooks and crannies are good to hide and explore
AmoryBlaine Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 That didn't really change what I said. There is nothing above each of the other departmental lobbies to justify similar 'sunroofs.' The training area could be a bit more drawn out, with halls over that area.
ToasterRoboto Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Anything that fleshes out the station (even if it is small) is nice. Might cause some performance issues, though.
Munks Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Maybe if there's an actual maintenance route involved, with ladder rooms, maint tunnels, etc. but just random overarching catwalks for the sake of catwalks with nothing leading to them is just begging for any random that knows how to use a jetpack to wreck everyone
UnknownMurder Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 I believe this thread can still be useful in our times of trouble.
BurgerBB Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 I was going to do this, but there are performance issues for transfering air between z-levels. And there is still the issue of places breaching without actually seeing the breach as players cannot really look up.
Carver Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 I would expect the cells, brig area of Security, Vault/Armoury/Teleporter/Secure Tech Storage would all have reinforced floors acting as ceilings in this case.
