Player Complaint - Simfanatic

Game ID:  b1k-aJgf

Player Byond Key: Simfanatic

Staff involved: Garnascus

Reason for complaint:  This person plays a skrell scientist and they spent most of the round constantly powergaming. First, they planted themselves down in telescience and began using it to grab any injured person they could get hold of (with pinpoint accuracy that may or may not have been the result of using an ooc calculator), with careless disregard for whether anyone else wanted to participate in doing their job, like medical.  Several times, I overheard them causing injuries with careless use of the device (at least one person lost a leg due to this and the skrell just shrugged this off as their own fault for not following his directions on where to stand after grabbing them without asking, and I myself was grabbed as part of said group surrounding an injured person when he interrupted it by yanking us en masse into telescience).

Furthermore, they evidently saw their RD, who was the other vampire in the round besides me, draining someone's blood, and took that as an opportunity to quietly prepare a syringe full of chloral hydrate for later 'just in case' instead of reporting the situation to security or something.  This lead to me attacking them later on in the round, failing to grab them, and while I was backing out, they rushed into the chem lab to grab that syringe then began actively chasing me (already a known murderer who had just paralyzed with with an eye flash) down, trying to stab me with the chloral syringe, before THEN calling security to collect me while I was paralyzed. (After uttering the very unskrellish sounding phrase "Get fucked!" or something along those lines, but that's a lore consideration more than anything)

Later, after the RD enthralled them, they shortly after went AFK, and were unable to respond to admin PMs when garn finally came back to respond.  This may or may not have been a result of rage quitting the game after 'losing' to the other vampire, I don't know.

I also haven't seen them before this round, but some of the other players reported that this 'solo operative' behavior he has is not a new occurrence.

Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes.  Garn was afk at the original time of the ahelp, and did not respond until the end of the round, when the player in question had afked.

Oh, I completely didn't see this! I'd just like to clear some things.

1.

I was taught by others how to use Telescience and I use a very In-Character program created by those who are really smart in programming. This code can easily be obtained by most scientists that wish to do telescience. Regarding injuries, I specifically told him if he didn't stand in the correct position he would be hurt when he refused to stand on the telepad, I shrugged and said I'll be teleporting you, the character had ample time to leave as I told them, then proceeded to click send (this usually left ten seconds for them to leave). They, as I predicted, were harmed due to someone moving the GPS I specifically asked medical not to move. I also use telescience to extract injured crew members (usually outside the station) so that EMT's are not forced to endanger themselves out in the void. Also considering most of the time the patient dies out in the void, so I bring them back before they cark it and get medical to Telescience, so to me this sounds like a win-win situation?

2.

I believed that the RD was sick, I never directly witnesses such things but I saw on the CMC (crew monitoring console) that the RD was holding down his victim who was steadily gaining oxygen, this is when I proceeded to get medical involved as for all I know they were doing CPR due to the RD doing weapon testing. I created choral hydrate after we were told MULTIPLE times there was a 7ft criminal lizard roaming the station and attacking people, as a rational person would want some kind of defence. I kept this syringe on me even before the confrontation. I started to run away from you due to you know being a creature literally double the size of Xrim, this is when you proceeded to glare me and my colleague noticed you dragging me away and came to my rescue. I then suddenly remembered I had a syringe full of stuff to keep you down while we get security, so I proceeded to attempt to stab you, and yes I admit I was chasing you here. I successfully stabbed you and then yelled for security as you bats literally appeared from nowhere, the comment I made was along the lines of; "Take that!".

3.

I have never once 'solo-operated' as Xrim, I have created weapons for the ISD and RD. I believe I make rather deadly weapons and I'm sorry if others feel cheated due to my superior weapons. I regularly used Xrim as a traitor during her beginning stages and I was often ridiculed in LOOC for 'power gaming' although I had a very good IC reason for doing so eg that of being a traitor.

4.

During the enthral, as stated above, I was ready to cryo when the RD came to the lab, this is where he enthralled me and around this time I believe you came and spoke in looc something along the lines of: "Watch out, they have choral hydrate," and you stated this AFTER you cryoed. I posed Xrim to be 'brain-dead and unresponsive' due to be enthralled and I did attempt in my last few moments to get the RD to escape by attacking the ISD, where I was promptly put down by Eric Bayer. Also, I did not 'rage quit', I actually had to go see some important people in my life and becoming an antag wasn't my course of the plan.

5.

Lastly, Xrim has been around for roughly a month, if anything I haven't seen your character at all throughout her career aboard the Aurora. Xrim, being Skrell, has an incredible amount of years she still has to live, and she was able to get a few degrees under her belt before she came aboard the Aurora, that being Medical and Xenobiology. Multiple staff have bwoinked me asking about her knowledge, and I have cleared it up and nothing has come of it, so, therefore, I believe it is completely within the realm of reality.

Time to wade in on this. That  "ooc calculator" you're on about? It's an entirely IC calculator using NTSL2+ that my character, Declan Bynum, passed on to her, after getting it from the creator of it, Wruop'xi Jruop, who is played by TehFlaminTaco. I've played with Sim on multiple occasions with their scientist squid, and I've never seen anything that I would consider overly powergaming or otherwise out of bounds of the rules.

Being on the recieving end of Sim all the time, they're not powergamey at all nor do they rage quit in defeat, could honestly robust my ass way more than they do. Being that I hang around RnD a lot. I can actively confirm their char has been rping a lot of learning and trial/error. Just my two cents as my char was named.

I was the RD.

1. Xrim has knowledge of telescience, and they've saved the lives of miners and other individuals across the station when medical was unable to access them or find them in time. Mainly someone falls down a hole, they look into suit sensors, then save their lives by teleporting them directly to medical or having paramedics rush into science. It's actually a pretty useful thing.

2. It is NOT and OOC calculator. It is an actual IC calculator using NTSL2+ that has been controlled and distributed by IC means across characters. There isn't even anything against the rules in creating or using an OOC calculator regardless.

3. People got hurt because they didn't listen.

4. I wasn't inside science during your encounter with Xrim, I was too busy regardless dealing with security to care.

5. Sadly, Xrim had real life stuff, and I, nor you had control of that. I don't believe they rage quitted when in fact RPing themselves being a thrall because I saw them as a threat and dealt with them accordingly.

Regardless, my interactions with them at least has been valid. I wasn't around during your interactions. I don't see powergaming from them and they never actively go out to hunt antags.

Ignoring my speculatory things that you have explained, the fact remains that you, playing a short scientist skrell, actively chased down a 7 foot lizard who had just paralyzed you with an eye flash.  We ran in circles there for almost 15 seconds before you finally got me, while I frantically tried to find the right power to click on to shut you down (a screech), but couldn't do so because I constantly had to be moving or you would stab me with the syringe.  If you had stabbed me while I was attacking you, or maybe shot me with a syringe gun from a distance, I would feel this was even slightly valid, but you were hunting a larger individual down with unknown abilities with a chloral syringe largely because you knew, possibly on a tactical level level, that it would instantly shut me down and even if I attacked you afterwards, I would be helpless shortly after.

This is my problem with it.  Your character showed zero fear in the face of someone who was physically stronger than them, and chased me down in circles for an extended period of time, despite that in any logical circumstance, they would allow a dangerous criminal who had attacked them to leave.  You did not even stop to go 'hey, leave or I'll sedate you, monster!', you just went straight to wordlessly opening two doors to start chasing me. I only knew to start running because I could see the syringe in your hand.  This is almost textbook powergaming and dismissing roleplay for the sake of winning, putting your character in danger because you know one click will win you the fight.  It's just about the same as rushing a person with a gun to chloral stab them because you know they won't be able to fire the gun enough to kill you before it paralyzes them.

Right to to get this resolved, me and Yonni have decided on this.

The use of telescience was valid, theres no rules against making calculators or using them as long as you arent using it to antag or shit around or benefit yourself, he was attempting to aid crew and was trying to extend the round. However the issue in this lies with the syringe, making chloral hydrate itself isnt against the rules and in the circumstances, if he was cornered and Kaed rushed him, stabbing him and running off would be fine, however Sim chose to rush Kaed, endangering himself and directly attacking them when he wasnt in direct danger. The line was crossed there and for this we will be applying a warning to Sim
