Allergies and the Pharmacy

The pharmacy should be given a Quik-Pay terminal. They should also have a little paper in there outlining what medicines are 'over the counter' that can be sold to crew without prescription. These should also have a little mark on the wiki.

To coincide with this we should add Allergies as a disability, or as a random affliction. It causes status messages of a runny nose, headache, etc. The messages should not be as common as a virus, hitting every minute or so. Just enough to remind the person that they are still getting hit with allergies. (You can still RP having allergies without needing the disability don't @ me)

It is cured with the over-the-counter brand medicines available at the pharmacy or temporarily suppressed by tea.

I like this, very much actually. Lists of over-the-counter medications is something I really want. It counters the "everyone does whatever" mentality with some stuff and gives clear guidelines. For the allergies, I would like to see stuff like that, but it might be too much for some people. I give this a clear +1.

I am so, SO happy that this has finally been brought up because I’ve been terrified to start a thread about it.

I would also like to see common things like gauze pads and ointment be brought into the fold. I mentioned it to a few chem mains and, while the idea of power gaming came to mind, greytiding, budget gloves assistants aren’t really able to stock up if the average cost is 150-200 credits a pop.

There are just so many things available in Medical that, literally, do not require doctors. Paracetamol? A band-aid? If you cut your hand, do you run to the emergency room? I just love the idea of pharmacy behaving like a real outpatient pharmacy clinic. If we trust lab assistants with access to toxins, I’m sure we can give out Tylenol and Band-aids.

Obviously, some people won’t be able to afford such and will, inevitably, admit themselves to the Medbay (Like IRL for uninsured patients going to the ER instead of a primary doctor because, hey, charity patients don’t pay) and for the more affluent crew members, “Oh, pish posh, I’ll just have myself some gauze and a paracetamol from the pharmacy instead of waiting to be admitted.”

Super big ultra +1

Huge +1, I think it's a good idea. There are a good bit of medications that should be over the counter, but trying to ever get any from the pharmacy is just met with "sorry we can't hand that out", for whatever reason (paracetamol, cough syrup, antihistamine, etc.). It also adds more stuff for the pharmacy crew to do, which is always a good thing.

Allergies I've always wanted to see, I've always wanted to be able to have a character that has a food allergy for instance, because if you go to medical RPing allergies, you get really weird looks.

Bold claim for someone that mixes different pills into one bottle. This is a call out!

+1, definitely. Charging for paracetamol and other basic medications is a fun idea, and it makes medical more involved than viruses and burst lungs. I will have to throw bricks at your house if this ends up making the ringer even more used, though.

I like the allergies idea, but I don't like the Quik-Pay terminal, because it implies that none of the employees are covered medically on the dangerous research station. It makes me really uncomfortable and it could be a nightmare for alien races.

It makes sense NT cover emergency care stemming from injury on the job, but come on, NT is a massive unfeeling mega corp. I don't see them giving out cough syrup out the goodness of their hearts. I like this idea

This idea IS great.

also, like I said before, you’re admitted to the Medbay it’s free. But if you don’t want to wait, ie: waiting for the chef for free food, you should have the option to get your own stuff and go on your merry way.

This is a pretty great take on it. It also opens the window to either resorting to ghetto chem or having to get medication from the chemist/science through less-than-legal means, which is always fun.

Also, botany. Hopefully this can also result in botany actually having an use for all the chems they can produce rather than delivering individual bottles of what medical already has.

The Mythical NanoTrasen Employee Contract covers medical expenses and cloning.

And with this change NT pays you pay for non-prescription over the counter medication. This would not charge you for cloning or medicine provided by a doctor.  Its for medicine you come pick up.

My insurance doesn't cover the Zyrtec i get from CVS but it does cover the prescription allergy medicine i got when i first got hit with my allergies.

Every time I see this, I fucking spasm. Just like food from the Chef, there's too many variables for this to just be "apart of the contract" and NT would not care enough to include it in there because that'd be too many benefits for a single employee, let alone several million.

Just let me paaaaayyy
