Kintsugi Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 For whatever reason, this is apparently necessary. Here's the PR, the logic is explained there: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8134
AmoryBlaine Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I, of course, support this. Standardized ammo is good. Stepping away from straight noir is good. Keeping it fairly unique is also good.
Carver Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I'll miss being able to screwdriver the revolver to make it fire .357 rounds. Made it a cute 'surprise' to fuck someone up, even if it often blew up in your hand after the first or second shot.
Uaine Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I do like the idea of seeing the Detective weapon be updated. I am howrmever sad to see the Noire aesthetic disappearing slowly, but I think consistency overall is better. The new look fits better with the rest of the ISD gear. It also makes a lot of sense lore wise. Having as many of the gear be cross compatible, even if only in caliber, is logical.
Waff-AI Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 The revolver sprite is wretched and I thank Sk'akh it is gone. Wholeheartedly support this on that basis alone.
Kintsugi Posted January 31, 2020 Author Posted January 31, 2020 In regards to this - I would like to point out that the detective can currently get rubber .38 rounds, to my knowledge. Just like in my PR, though - they don't get any unless they are given it. Functionally, this is a more lore-friendly version of the revolver, all things considered.
Arrow768 Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Well yes, but there is a huge difference in availability. For 45s they just have to ask the Warden. For 38s have to be acquired via cargo by shipping it to the station or hacking the lathe
geeves Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 In my opinion, it's fine. Detectives aren't supposed to ask for armory gear in the first place. They'll only ever get armory gear if there is literally no other option. A Warden + Detective who arm up with no justifiable reason is just that, unjustified. I would say: merge it for a week, maybe longer. If it gets abused, we can pull it out. If not, we keep it.
AmoryBlaine Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 If anything, their primary source of ammo being linked to the security team's armory means it's less likely for him to gain access to it unless there's an emergency. You can pretty easily ask Cargo to get you ammo, either by ordering it or auto-lathing it. For access to armory ammo you need to actually have a situation going on to justify access, and have a warden or HoS. Both of whom are not happy to give out ammo early.

This means that all a detective needs to do is ask cargo for rubber ammunition. This means that with my PR, there's really no effective change - you could get less-lethal ammo from the armory, sure, but no warden or HoS is going to freely distribute rubbers to a detective without a good reason. The availability in general doesn't actually change much at all.
