stev Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 This suggestion/proposal is simply to add lore faction-themed kits or bundles to the traitor/merc/whatever antag uplinks, just like is already done for the merc gear loadouts but more specifically geared towards non-team antags. As has been the case with merc, this should help to better root antag stuff in the lore and help antags establish some good lore hooks. These kits should likely include a somewhat comprehensive grab bag of appropriate equipment (similar to merc gear loadouts), perhaps replacing the armour component of merc loadouts with lore-appropriate tools and items at a slight discount to encourage antags from different factions to play in a way that fits those factions. As I'm just one barely code-literate braindead gamer, I don't have ideas for every single faction in the lore, so I'll happily accept suggestions for kits in this thread; I also don't have the coding chops to code in new item behaviours myself, so this will probably be limited to existing items unless a coder decides to help out. Currently, kits include: ALA agent kit: Some explosives, a silenced pistol and/or folding shotgun + ammo, M'sai field rations, loaded toolbelt & taj insulated gloves. Sol military surplus kit (WIP): Military belt with grenades, Solarian service pistol + ammo, syndie headset/encryption key, [some more undecided tools] Frontier patriot kit (WIP): Some kind of revolver + holster, Vulture spacesuit w/ tank and magboots, [some more undecided tools] Obviously these are just initial kits to put the idea across, I'll probably add good suggestions to this post as they come in and update the kits according to feedback. And yes, I'm willing to code it myself, with a bit of help.
Carver Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 If I was competent I'd PR this, I fucking love the flavour kits that mercs can get and have 0 regrets buffing the price on them. If they weren't so powerful I'd just suggest making them available to normal traitors as a solution to this.
Arrow768 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 The problem, if there are only very few kits, will be repetition, as a lot of antags will pick one of the pre-made kits.

I assume each factions atleast have two different armor sets.
Zelmana Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Why not a big section of the antag area with tons of masks, clothing, etc? Theoretically someone could just take tons of clothes and sell them to the station or something odd- but would it not be better to make gimmicks more available without having a TC cost? Just a thought
Carver Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 I would sincerely hope nothing added is randomized. Randomization in your orders is utter trash and why nearly no one buys the 'random gun'.
stev Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Right, sorry about the lack of engagement with this! Kiiinda moved house like a day or two after posting, lost track of things for a bit. The good thing about this is that it should be fairly easy to put these kits together, as no new items or behaviours should be required - it's just bundling existing items together, for the most part, so it should be pretty simple to expand the selections. Also, I'd argue the current system feels just as repetitive if not more; many inexperienced traitors just pick safe, simple tools like the emag and the coolest sounding weapon with no regard for whether it makes any lore sense or advances much of a story. I'd also try and make the more generic kits affordable enough that antags should be able to afford other stuff as well to mix things up, as well as the fact that plenty different gimmicks should be viable with the same kits.
Sparky_hotdog Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 I have to agree here. How many times have we seen people pick up the same five or so items in slightly different combinations. Admittedly most people tend to come up with a half-decent gimmick and the tools just become a means to an ends, but I would appreciate it if security stripped a traitor, found a bunch of Einstein themed gear and just went "Well, I wonder who sent this guy." On top of this, it would make that moment where you get chosen for traitor and really cannot think of any ideas (or it's 1:55) much easier. Just pick up a random kit, and you're good to go. I know other servers have/had things like this, and while they tended to be themed after IRL things (Think there was a Vader one, that sort of idea) I imagine adapting some of those would be pretty simple.
