Roostercat Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Ckey/BYOND Username: Roostercat12 Position Being Applied For: (Wiki Maintainer, Lore Developer, Deputy Lore developer): Vaurca Lore Developer (very cool) Have you read the Lore Team Rules and Regulations wiki page? Yuh Past Experiences/Knowledge: I have been one of the Vaurca deputies since November of 2019, and through my tenure I have done quite a lot with the rest of the team. Helping to write arcs, give feedback, and work with other species devs to make cool things with the bug boys happen. I also like to believe I have been one of the more active bug writers through my time, and am usually the first person people go to with questions. Examples of Past Work: Writing a tidbit about Shapers on the Vaurca religion page. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vaurca_Religion) Removing C'thur's instant avowals. Writing the arc about Mars exploding. Helped write a conspiracy that, unfortunately, fell apart later in its life. Rewrote the Vedhra page. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vedhra,_Princess_of_Configurations) Created the Lii'dra page. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=The_Lii'dra) Made a bunch of new augment sprites and paid for other bug related PR's. Ran an event during the KOTW invasion involving a bug squad and a warform with Yonnimer. This isn't everything I have done, but a good chunk of it. Additional Comments: The State of Vaurca Lore Right now, unfortunately, I would say that Vaurca lore has stagnated at best. Following an uptick in people playing the species, nothing has really....happened. This is mostly due to me being inactive as life had gotten a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs at the time, but the important thing is that its too slow. I plan on making some things happen with Xev to get the ball rolling again soon, but doing so as the Vaurca Dev instead of as the Vaurca Deputy can only speed the process up. As it stands, Vaurca lore is in an interesting position where they are not really expected to be doing much, meaning that while most other species have things going on already that they have to follow, such as the Tajara having political discourse or the Skrell with the election, the Vaurca are a bit of a blank slate so to speak. We have the flexibility to make more or less anything happen with the species, which means we have the best opportunity to drive the lore with power. Adding to that, Vaurca are also arguably the most involved with multiple species at a time, since all three hives are sucking up to a power of some kind, with the Zo'ra being in Biesel, the K'lax in the Hegemony and the C'thur in the Jargon Federation. This gives a lot of avenues to play into both with their species arcs and arcs of our own. What do I like about it right now? As I said before, Vaurca lore is in a fantastic position to get things rolling, if only because nothing is actually happening yet. We could start discourse between the hives, add fluff about them expanding, or work with almost any of the other species teams barring Tajara on a brand new Bug Arc involving the rest of the Spur. On top of this, we have plenty of background lore already in place, this is useful both because its a good base to build off of, but it also gives us just enough information to make new things up that fall in line with what we already have, or to simply expand upon them with IC progression arcs, to show the bugs are actually doing things. And my favorite part is that we have a decent antagonist faction simply sitting around. I like the Lii'dra a lot, especially because, unlike most antagonist factions, they are one almost everyone has a justified reason to hate. Instead of having a complex moral dilemma between factions over one semi-hefty enemy, the Lii'dra often make everyone focus on one fairly powerful foe instead. This may sound less exciting than the former, but the former in itself can become old simply due to it happening so often. The outlook with the Lii'dra is a fresh perspective that isn't played on very much, and if done right can hit just as hard as anything else in the narrative. What do I dislike about it right now? There is not a terrible lot I dislike about it right now, in truth. While there are some things, there isn't a lot that I distinctly hate other than the fact that nothing is happening (which is more my fault than anyone else's). Of the things I do dislike however are the fact that all of the hives are fairly spread apart, and it is difficult to find a way or even a reason for them to be in the same spot. The only one place they really intersect with eachother is in Tau Ceti, but I would like it to be otherwise. We have all the political drama with the three but nowhere to really use it without an asspull or two. What do I plan on doing about it? The most important question. The main plan is simply to get things rolling. I want to show the bugs actually are making progress with their relatively new living arrangements. This could be simple expansion, maybe colonizing another planet, Athvur building a commercial fleet etcetera, anything to show the bugs still exist and matter. Beyond this, I plan on involving the bugs in more arcs in the future. Or at least trying to. The tricky part here is that I have to do it in a way that doesn't step on another team's toes, which is difficult due to just how involved the bugs are in everything, and being one of two species that do not have their own nation. This means that just about anything the bugs do have an impact on a different team's 'territory'. There is also the worry of the bugs becoming so involved they start to overshadow the original purpose of the arc, which in most cases isn't revolving around the bugs to begin with. This is a situation I wholeheartedly want to avoid. All in all, I believe myself to be the best candidate for bug developer as I have been here for the longest of the two deputies, and have made quite a lot of progress with the bugs as it is. Vaurca are currently the least played species period, and I aim to change that by making them relevant again. The best way to aid this goal is becoming the developer, which gives me more power to get things done, and by extension more motivation to just do it already. Either way it goes, thanks for taking the time to read this giant block of text!
Desven Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 I honestly would not trust anybody else to be Lord of the Bugs, and I have no doubt you'll get the job. Bugspeed.
Caelphon Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Rooster, you are no doubt a brilliant writer and member of the lore team, and I believe that should you be promoted you'll do a fantastic job. I do, however, have a few questions for you: Quote 1. Lets say you had unfettered access to write lore for Vaurcae, what would you do? Do you have any specific plans for each species that the Vaurcae are related to? (Skrell/C'thur, Unathi/K'lax and Humanity/Zo'ra) 2. What is your perspective on Vaurcae and Megacorporations? What would you like to see done? How would you make them interact more? 3. With your application for mod, do you believe you'll be able to keep away the ravaging affects of burn-out? Goodluck. There are no wrong answers.

I do, however, have a few questions for you: Goodluck. There are no wrong answers. Thanks for responding! Now to squash your puny questions with my superior intellect (very cool). 1. I would run an Arc where one of the hives gets pissy with another hive. The main problem with this is finding a way to actually get the two hives close enough for them to fight, or maybe having it happen in Tau Ceti. It is a good chance to show the political complications between the hives in a world where it has had almost no showing of it since they arrived. As for the specific plans regarding hives, the C'thur would likely get more embedded with EE, the Zo'ra would try to become independent from Tau Ceti and NT in some form, and the K'lax continue to be authority simps, but high functioning ones that supply the Hegemony sugar daddy with better technology. 2. This is an interesting question, as each hive has diferent views on them. The Zo'ra more or less see NT as an employer, though they are thankful for what TC and NT have done to make their stay less of a pain in the ass. The K'lax are likely huge simps for Hephaestus and would likely be a considerable part of their engineering faculty in Hegemony space. The C'thur are the most interesting in this respect, as they are involved in both EE AND Eridani, and are playing two angles so to speak with the SCC and their main rival. If anything I would go with furthering the C'thur's connections to both and trying to pull some interesting moves out of that, likely tying into Hive vs Hive political drama. 3. I believe I will be able to! I know when to take a break, and after the mod trial I will probably sit back for maybe a week or two before going on. The main reason burnout occurs is repetition and from doing too many things too fast. The latter in this case is the more worrisome as with being a mod and a Developer things can get busy very fast, but luckily I was more or less prepared for this anyway when I applied for mod given I was already the Vaurca deputy and the main person everyone went to with questions.
Lordnesh Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 I can't think of anyone better qualified for the position. They've contributed to the lore, are active in the lore discord, and have experience as deputy. +1 What's one part of the bug lore you really want to change, but will not, and why? What's the first thing you'll do if you become lore dev? How do you plan to attract more applicants to bug kind?

If anything, I'd want to change the fact that a lot of Vaurca technology is pure unobtanium, or the fact that their home planet is way out in the middle of nobody-knows where. It feels like a big inhibitor at times, and would be interesting to see change. I will not change it due to concerns about Vaurca being too powerful for what they are though, or at least I won't do it right away. If anything it'd be brand new tech they made in the spur and nothing they had before. probably. 2. Likely work with the other deputy to finish something he is working on already. 3. I believe that once the ball gets rolling, it will encourage people to look over bug lore, and make people apply if they like what they see. Simple as.
Lmwevil Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 This was a long time coming, literally nothing to add besides Rooster's avatar choices always fucking suck. There's nobody more suitable for the role, and I think that Rooster definitely can take things in a good direction. +1
Bear Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Rooster is a gamer and a long standing member on the :b:aurca team. With enough work to speak for itseld he is an easy pick. He also promised me canonizing Bugsnax. +1
Mofo1995 Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Given that there's no other applicants, and honestly, that I felt you were the best choice before I had even opened apps, this is a fairly straightforward choice. Congratulations on the promotion!
