Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Green Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I have played several of the Aurora's xenospecies for years now, and have watched Unathi progress significantly over the years. Applying for Unathi is something I have expressed interest in for years now, but if I am honest, these applications always create a fair amount of anxiety for me for no good reason. Unathi are an interesting species for a variety of reasons to me, from being a recently uplifted xenospecies over the last 60 years or so, with the recent rework as they have tried to find their way in human space. There's a variety of narratives that could drive a multitude of interesting characters for both myself and the server. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: From radically different biology, to completely different social patterns, Unathi can be played quite alien. For starters, they're a cold blooded species standing at an average of 6-7 feet tall cold blooded, scale riddled, carnivorous monsters. But these are only surface details in what makes them far different.Honour bound in some cases, clan adherent in others, Unathi come from a diverse amount of settings in cultures that contrast against standard human settings. From wasteland survivors and raiders, Izweski citizens dueling out grievances, to far reaching pirates preparing to ram their vessel into another, Unathi have a fairly robust setting as far as lore is concerned highlighting their many different mannerisms that contrast with Humanity in our setting. Cultural behaviours such as pointing being incredibly offensive, expectations of behaviour and respect such as looking at your superiors when speaking with them to their intense gazes drawn by interest, usage of last names over their given names with those who are not exceptionally close, gendered expectations on behaviour, and much more only scratch the surface of the Unathi species' differences. Character Name: Asoesse Onossa'i Please provide a short backstory for this character: Born in the beginning of the kasavakh in 2437 within the walls of To'ha'dat in the Untouched lands, Aoesse was a hatchling when the fighting began that would reshape the fate of Moghes for the rest of history. As war broke out between the Izweski and traditionalists, his father was one of the many peasants levied by their lords to fight for their Hegemon. Skies soon darkened, and some of Aoesse's first memories were of plumes in the distance, looming over far distance as dark and terrible mushrooms. Years moved on, however, and life endured, Aoesse found himself raised in the teachings of Sk'akh as yet another peasant family in the industrialized city within them employ of the trade guilds as humble industrial workers, Aoesse upbringing was hard but honest. With Moghes' destabilization and economic troubles that followed, the young Unathi found himself often helping where his hands could when not in Izweski education system. Over the next fifteen years, Aoesse would grow, watching the turmoil of Moghes turn into desperation as it's surfaces became glass and then desert, as he and the many other children grew in the streets learning what futures were in store and idolizing the levied warriors in the years that followed after even after the Contact War came to it's end and his father returned a far different Sinta from when he left. Raised, educated in formal schools, Aoesse was signed by his clean leader to begin an apprenticeship with the renowned Hephaestus Industries during one of many simple recruitment drives by the megacorporation as it's influence expanded upon Moghes. Sent to the stars, he began his training with Moghean ship wrights as he learned to care for, repair, and work on the Izweski fleets. Learning as an apprentice for several years, Aoesse was arranged to wed by his clan leader in 2458, to La’ssakea from a neighboring clan. Three hatchlings later, Aoesse found himself with a blossoming family as he began to near the end of his apprenticeship. Content in his works, he watched his world find unrest once more with the waking of his Hegemon, and his faith challenged as the events of the Third Cept were brought into light in the start of 2462. With the Hegemon slain and the feeble yet cunning Not'zar's brief civil war, Aoesse was among the many who watched in horror as High Priest Unzi was stripped of titles and cast out into the wastelands. This, however, was not Aoesse's place to worry about such thing and thus whatever outraged opinions he may have held were kept to himself and his home, in deference to his clan as he continued his works through the next year. Worse, in his mind, were the radical Si'akh heretics who had cropped up, spouting their rhetoric before being dragged off by the city guard. Or the anarchists who mutilated their bodies with metal and forbidden teachings earning the scorn of their ancestors as they shamed themselves. Completing his engineering apprenticeship, the following year, Aoesse continued his work with the honourable Hephaestus guild as a fully-fledged engineer. Instilling in his children the wisdom of Sk'akh teachings even following the recent troubles and scandal, he ensured his family had regular communion with the district's priest, hoping that instilling proper values within his own offspring would help fight the growing corruption and erosion of Sinta values. (edited) This was of course until the great recessions of the following year and food shortages that came shortly after as Moghes found itself in financial turmoil. During this time, Aoesse learned of the transfer to a new ship called the Horizon and mentioned this in passing to his clan leader. Viewing this as a wonderful opportunity to earn prestige amongst their smaller name and one less mouth to feed in their already overcrowded apartments, Aoesse was instructed to take this voluntary opportunity to bring reputation to his clan. Obedient to his leader, as any proper Sinta should be, Aoesse begrudgingly applied to this opportunity. Leaving his wife and family behind after the observation of the Final Judgement festival, Aoesse took to the stars one last time on a Hephaestus Transport and left his sand-laden world behind with a new journey on the horizon. What do you like about this character? I like this character for many reasons. Primarily, he is a faithful Sinta dedicated to both clan and religion with a level head, not quick to anger. He's a good starter character as I learn to immerse myself in a new species' lore and work on the finer details of playing a Unathi. Incorporating aspects of cultural background and megacorporate influence, he will have his work cut out for him as he adapts to a far more human world, and will hopefully find his personal Sk'akh beliefs tested as well as deal with the reality of Xeno influence on his world and the terrible repercussions it had. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I have long since stopped trying to numerically rate my RP, instead, I believe I have adequately showcased my knowledge of the lore in several whitelists already. Granted, every character is a learning journey and not all of my characters have been as successful as others, but I have tried to learn from these, and learning is the mark of good roleplaying ability. Omicega
Bear plays some of the most memorable and unique characters I've ever seen on Aurora (even if I think too many of them are Tajara...). He maintains an extremely high standard of overall roleplay and character believability across an incredibly broad range of different backgrounds, while being very proactive in interacting with most if not all of the manifest. I can't speak for actually rating the application itself as I don't hold an Unathi whitelist and don't really know their lore in great depth, but I would love to see his take on one or more Unathi characters and I think he should be an absolute shoe-in for the whitelist if he ticks all the requisite boxes. +1 Link to comment
4000daniel1
I've interacted with a number of Bear's very varied characters and I can say with confidence they execute them super well. Whether they're playing a greaser hangar tech or a stern HoS, they do so in a way that facilitates roleplay. I'm certain more of the same would come should they be whitelsted for unathi. +1 Link to comment
goolie
Going to mirror what the other two have said so far, brilliant characters, great RPer and a great fit for Unathi! Would of thought he'd already had it. Love the story you've come up with, and it's clear you've been sinking your teeth into the lore by how much you've included in the backstory! Excited to them on the ship and what mischief they'll get up to. Link to comment
Kaizr
WHOA!!! BEAR IS A SCALIE!?!?!??!?! REAL!?!?!? Looks like he's finally been cured of his chronic furryitis and is now instead becoming a scalie. Jokes aside Bear is without a question one of the best role-players I've ever met, boasting a broad portfolio of distinctive and special characters. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he'll make a fine addition to the hisser brigade. +1.01 Link to comment

Triogenix
Hi! It's great to see you apply for Unathi. I have a couple of questions about your backstory though. 1. What is their experience with Hephaestus? What do they think of the megacorp? 2. what does Asoesse think about leaving behind their family? How will they keep in touch, if at all? Edited November 19, 2022 by Triogenix editted to make the questions more concise Link to comment
Bear
1) Asoesse's experience with Hephaestus originally had been somewhat mixed as this opportunity, much like the second question, was a voluntold position for him. Originally he held a somewhat reserved opinion on the Megacorporate Guild on the sheer principle of how quickly they had outpaced any other on Moghes, however, like most Unathi he found their approach appealing both aesthetic wise and in business model. This opinion has swung hard, in recent days however. As famine has set in on Moghes and the other Megacorporate presences having turned their backs on Moghes in his perspective, Asoesse has now adopted the stance of Hephaestus truly being the only honest Megacorporation. His loyalty had been won in thst aspect as the Guild and the Hegemon worked to resolve the new crippled market on Moghes. 2) Simply put, bitter. Put between duty to his family and Clan, Asoesse's Clan Leader had effectively gotten rid of him for the now once again for a source of credits with little regard to his or his family's wants. Viewing the move as a greedy move for influence and credit, Asoesse was left with little say in the matter. But these are opinions he has not, and would not share. Understanding his role in this world, he put his expectations first and obeys. But, as with most things, the second reality is his clan leader remains his only real access to communication with his family, and so upsetting his clan leader would not be wise for this along with many other reasons. He intends to keep contact through written missives, when he can, as his family remains poorer with no access to the extranet, holoscreens, or other such amenities. In the time between, Asoesse will trust the rest to the will of Sk'akh and his ancestors, striving to make them proud abroad the stars. Link to comment
