Not always, if the authorities have belief that the killer may want to remove any possible identifiers, they will often put the witness into protection until the criminal has been capture, prosecuted and then imprisoned.

Yeah... It isn't... Alpha Centauri A, B and Tau Ceti are spectrally similar to the sun, so there would be no noticeable difference from Sol. If it was Epsilon Eridani, it would be a different matter, it is far more orange than Sol, but A, B and Ceti are very close to the same colour.
