kvasir Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I know a lot of work has gone into the new map; however, I have seen minor things that I wish would be changed. One such thing, as the title suggests, is the location of the bar. Perhaps I spend too much time in Airports, but I kind of like the idea of having the bar in/near arrivals, as opposed to, next to the kitchen. Based on another thread, which suggested we turn the bar into a cafeteria, I'd suggest doing so -- on the new map -- then placing the bar in arrivals. Forcing the 'drinking' to take place, "off the clock", and away from departments. Furthermore, with more people near arrivals, maybe we would start to see the security station/checkpoint manned -- more often. Edit: On the new map, imagine if the 'greenhouse' location, near the elevator, was actually a bar. Central location -- seems suitable. Why not grab a drink while you're waiting on your cargo shipment to arrive. Bars/Taverns have always been central to roleplaying themes-- as such, it makes sense, to me at least, to have it at a more frequented location.
Guest Complete Garbage Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I'd be up for this, sounds like a kewl idea. Or maybe we could expand that little lounge just above what I assume is primary tool storage, and turn that into the bar, because I actually like that little garden. Also, someone should change that SPACE STATION sign to say whatever the name of newmap will be.
Juani2400 Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Initially, the bar was just in that floor, occupying the place which is now the tool storage and the lounge. It was moved to the Main level to promote the RP in the whole civilian department, as the bar is now next to other less-popular facilities (Chapel, library). In any case, this suggestion should go here.
Nanako Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 why is that garden there? How is food supposed to get to the kitchen, i don't even see the kitchen here
Filthyfrankster Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The bar is properly being removed by a lore dev or two and will probably be replaced by a vendor selling them at HIGH AS FUCK prices and also limiting how much you can buy in a timeframe.
Carver Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The bar is properly being removed by a lore dev or twoand will probably be replaced by a vendor selling them at HIGH AS FUCK prices and also limiting how much you can buy in a timeframe. This is fucking terrible.
Guest Complete Garbage Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 why is that garden there? How is food supposed to get to the kitchen, i don't even see the kitchen here There's an actual hydroponics room on the main level next to the kitchen with real trays and shit iirc.
Bedshaped Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 why is that garden there? How is food supposed to get to the kitchen, i don't even see the kitchen here I think it's kind of like a community garden like they have on Polaris.
Bedshaped Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The bar is properly being removed by a lore dev or twoand will probably be replaced by a vendor selling them at HIGH AS FUCK prices and also limiting how much you can buy in a timeframe. This lore dev shares lineage with Adolf James Hitler.

Didn't the community at large say this is a terrible idea and wanted literally no part of it at all, minus like three people?
Loow Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The bar is properly being removed by a lore dev or two Yeah we've never talked about this as far as I know.
LordFowl Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 This is not the thread for discussing total removal of the bar. This is the thread for moving the bar to the surface level. Furthermore, I will not consider removing the bar at all - no matter if it's the loreteam that asks me to or God that asks me to - unless some serious consideration is put into the request by the requesting party, and that consideration presented to me in a logical and serious manner.
kvasir Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Exactly. I think, by having it on ground level, we would see a lot more activity near Arrivals. Coming off of the shuttle, you're more likely to see a co-worker, in the bar, while you're headed to the lift. RP will naturally flow through most of the map; however, arrivals has - always - been lacking (imo). Putting the bar in proximity might actually encourage arrivals to seem more like a bustling hub, as opposed to some - empty - rooms.
Jboy2000000 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 But this would also cut off RP for a lot of people. Frank mentioned that he liked this idea, but only because anyone with jobs like medical it would be unusable to them because of distance from the surface to the medical department would mean by the time they got from there to medbay people would already be dead. Im sure it would also hurt engineers who needs to get to other parts of the station for repairs, security responding to crimes. How it is now the bar is a nice centralized spot that dosen't cause many problems like that, and where the bar is, Im hoping is a central point of the z-levels as well for a timely response and ease of access for all jobs, not just people whose jobs aren't on a time base.
kvasir Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Cut-Off RP? My suggestion was to expand, what is currently the bar, as a (mess hall) cafeteria-- if we had a designated restaurant (and kitchen staff) I would be playing Chef much more often; however, most models place more emphasis on the bar than the mess hall. If your role play is limited by your proximity to the bar, I'd say your character probably has a drinking problem. If we are considering an objectively built station, modeled on corporate efficiency, the bar wouldn't be so close to where people sleep (or work). Placing it on the surface level ensures one of two things: 1. RP will benefit from people traversing together (taking the lift to the bar), 2. The proximity, to Cargo, would make it a place to stop and wait, grab a drink, while your shipment is en-route. Furthermore, if Arrivals were constructed (more like an airport) and Departures were in the same vicinity, people would be relaxing at the bar -- while waiting for the shuttle to arrive.
Nanako Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 what on earth are those double-walled rooms with the pairs of double airlocks, that only contain chairs?
Dreamix Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 what on earth are those double-walled rooms with the pairs of double airlocks, that only contain chairs? Elevators or mini-shuttles. Anyways, I'd love it, if the bar was near arrivals. It's not like the whole medical and engineering departments need to be at the center of the station 24/7, waiting for some bloody accident to happen. Without a bar there, this area will be dead for the most time, apart of some random lost cargo technician.
Nanako Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Without a bar there, this area will be dead for the most time, apart of some random lost cargo technician. People don't go out of their way for casual RP and nonessential things I'd argue that if you put the bar there, the area will still be dead, and so will the bar. If the objective is to get traffic to that area, i'd say the solution is to put an essential thing there. Like medical. Medical being near arrivals makes a lot of sense, what if the station has to act as a field hospital for an influx of casualties from a nearby shuttle crash.

What you neglect is the bar is so deeply ingrained in SS13 "culture" as a central hub for bored assistants looking to get drunk, bored officers looking to chat up bored doctors, and as a solid place to just go half-AFK. The bar will never be dead as long as it has it's alcohol, and will often always be seen as the major 'civilian area' for people to gather. People already go out of their way to make the bar active even when there is no bartender, as one might note when Engineers or the HoP/Captain take up manning the counter.
