UnknownMurder
I don't know much about winery but I've heard that if you store a wine for several decades or generations. It tastes good and expensive. I'm underage. So.... I'll let a professional handle this but... My thoughts? Store an expensive 2016 Wine/Beer to 2458. A. Store one expensive wine/beer for the bartender to share his drink with his 'bar buddies'. B. Store it in the Vault and be forgotten or allow RP for alcoholic heister. C. Store it Captain's Office to reward someone or drink it for himself whenever he's miserable and unappreciated. D. All of the Above. Link to comment
Jboy2000000
Well, beer rots and goes bad much easier than wine, so the option of drinking 2016 beer in 2458 is only good if you want to poison someone. Id also like to choose option E. This is similar to something else than came up a little while back, when Boot first came up with the idea of a constant bank account. Super expensive, well ages wine from the current year, in the game's year, would be orderable through cargo, if someone wanted to pony up some MAJOR dough for it. Now, constant bank accounts aren't a thing yet, but if you want your super fancy wine, how about adding it to cargo for, say... 500 cargo points? Link to comment
Nanako
We should pick a real world brand of wine that's considered cheap crap nowadays. I vote Echo Falls Link to comment

Carver
I have my doubts that any wine is still drinkable after 400 years. 200~ish is already heavily pushing it according to some historical examples that were tasted today. Beer will very much be disgusting by the 100 year mark, unless it happens to be properly bottled with a cork and preserved in very... Odd, conditions. Then 200 may be OKAY-ish, assuming you like to drink acidic beer that's been fermenting for much too long. Overall the fermenting drinks will not last for 400 years without getting either disgusting or becoming an acid of the like that the chemist could work with. There has (supposedbly) been a 300 year old wine bottle that was.. Drinkable if you could call it that (Albeit it's not recognized by any official records), but the 400-year old articles tend to be completely undrinkable. With the best example of something tolerably drinkable being a 200 year old article of Champagne. The state of how wine can last heavily depends on both the contents of the bottle, and the cork. But a good cork will not guarantee it lasting due to the nature of the whole thing. Basically, idea would never work. Captain could maybe have a 60-100 year old vintage. Link to comment
Dreamix
Subject: 2016 Winery/Beer (...) Basically, idea would never work. Captain could maybe have a 60-100 year old vintage. Fucking Carver, ruining all the fun. Subject: 2016 Winery/Beer Blue space bottles. Well, I kind-of like this idea? A cheap gimmick for the captain to pull off, when a few nice crewmembers did something that's just worthy enough to drink some expensive alcohol with their boss, but shitty enough to not warrant a medal. Carver
Blue space bottles. The fancy containers in this game do two things. One holds an inordinate amount of reagents, the other puts reagents inside in stasis. The former wouldn't do anything when it comes to wine, the latter would keep it from aging whatsoever, negating the entire purpose of aged wine. Link to comment

Blue space does whatever we want it to do because it's an undefined all purpose plot filler/maguffin. We could have a slow stasis blue space bottle. Link to comment
Bedshaped
As a regular IRL wine drinker, wine goes bad after a few decades and only becomes valuable as a commodity. Link to comment
Zundy
Hell worse case, it's wine from 2016 that's been stored in a blue space container. If we found 1000 barrels of wine from Byzantium that had some how been kept in perfect stasis they'd be fukken expensive and desirable. Link to comment
LordFowl
That's a neat idea, Zundy, except we don't have bluespace containers nowadays, and in fact have only known about Bluespace since 2413. Link to comment

Jboy2000000
Or we can have them bottled using bottles laced with suspension of disbelieve because this sounds kind of cool. Especially if we use a brand thats really cheap by today's standard, as was already suggested by someone. Link to comment

Haven't heard about the primitive bluespace experiments that took place in 2016 to 2025 that eneded up being abandoned eh? Carver
All I'm seeing in favour of this suggestion is "It'd be cool if we did it guys". Unlike space wizards and cult, though, which also defy any sense of logic, this suggestion lacks any real value to the game mechanically or otherwise. Haven't heard about the primitive bluespace experiments that took place in 2016 to 2025 that eneded up being abandoned eh? No, because they don't fucking exist. Forcing something stupidly unrealistic for the sake of "It'd be a cool gag for a total of five minutes guys" is a complete waste, and not the direction that should be taken for any universe that wants to take itself seriously. If this gets added to the game I'm going to consider Aurora's universe strictly as Comedy instead of Science Fiction/Drama from now on. Maybe this would work as a var-edited version of the poisonous wine used by an admin for a one-off gag event, but not as a proper suggestion that gets added to the main game forever. Link to comment
Zundy
opinions It'd be a fun thing to do. It hurts and changes nothing. Realism is not an argument for the Aurora. This just boils down to you not liking it personally which is fine. I do like it. Link to comment
Guest
As initially stated, do any of you actually know how long beer or wine can be preserved, or are most of you just pretending that you do? Link to comment
Zundy
As initially stated, do any of you actually know how long beer or wine can be preserved, or are most of you just pretending that you do? The thread has moved way on from 'just a few hundred years old bottle in some ones cupboard' so that's irrelevant really. Link to comment
Kaed
This thread has become a joke, and people arguing over whether it's worth ignoring logic and sense for the sake of the gag. Personally, I think at this point that this thread has been thoroughly to be pointless. Maybe focus on suggestions that actually improve the game somehow , rather than exists solely to make a couple people giggle. I don't drink, and I don't even know what Mad Dog 20/20 is. This is basically another LOL ADD DRUGS PLS BECAUSE iT'D BE FUNNY thread. To reiterate what I I think from earlier: I could see vintage brandy/wine/etc being a thing on the station. It being a current day product illogically ported in for a joke item, no. Link to comment
UnknownMurder
Some sees this as a useless addition, you probably haven't read I've suggested, most people don't read the suggestion and join the argument, getting side tracked. Let me reiterate myself, I see this as advantage in roleplay. Although, I'd like to stray from real life franchise name especially Dom Peridigon rather using a random creativity name of our choice. If you still believe it is a joke item, you may as well ignore the joke item in-game and treat it as a regular alcohol drink. You all claim yourselves to be HIGH-RP, but don't want to take chances of improving RP. I am not sure who disagrees with this suggestion because it lacks logic. Everything's illogical in-game. Why not also add other memes, my friend? I mean, we have wizards and other non-realistic/non-logical shit, why even bother trying to make our game more immersive/realistic. Well, after re-thinking it, I still think that a bottle of expensive and old alcohol stuffed somewhere in the captain's office would be nice. As I earlier wrote: "A cheap gimmick for the captain to pull off, when a few nice crewmembers did something that's just worthy enough to drink some expensive alcohol with their boss, but shitty enough to not warrant a medal." However, a 2016's wine may not be exactly a great way to achieve this. Also. I'm sure no one sees the old wine alone as an useless addition (fucking fun-haters, I tell ya). The 2016's part is what people disagree with. Link to comment

The 2016's part is what people disagree with. What the hell, I didn't know it was a such of a big deal. That's what everyone's angry about? We always can bump up the age of winery to about 2279? That makes the wine 179 years old and it doesn't change anything. It's still a typical preserved wine/beer. Link to comment
