Character names: Simon Greene, Nathan Beckett, Edward Fleming

How long have you been playing on Aurora?:247 days

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To have more opportunies to role play, and to help other in my department learn and guide them.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I was drifting from server to server, leaving after 1/2 or 1 round, because there was just not any good RP. Then i found this server, and i've played no other since.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: yup.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is about being someone you're not, and having fun pretending, like trying to figure out something in character that you know IRL, which makes for fun experiences IC and OOC. It's also about doing the things you like if you can not really do them. Pretend to be something you would like to be, but can't, like having fun pretending you're working with other dimensional slime in a space station. Act like you are really the person you are playing as. Immerse yourself and enjoy seeing how the choices you make affects others.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To teach and help others in your department, guide them, and making sure that there is not so much chaos in your department. Being a real leader basically. I can't really come up with alot, as what i said earlier also applies to IC.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To be someone who is like a mentor, as stated in the previous question. You have to be someone respectable, and responsible, who knows what they're doing and not just goofing around doing whatever.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name:Simon Greene

Character age:35

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Simon Greene led a pretty normal life for upper middle class humans on ocean planet 4546B. It was a beautiful planet with many types of interesting flora and fauna. He lived on an island, which was a little like the rich neighbourhoods. Seeing as there aren't alot of people on the planet, there was not spacing issue. Ever since he was young he did well at school, and other times he was either searching for beautiful places, or just doing something else fun. He was the best at biology and math. he loved those topics too. All his life he was a nice person, even though many people he knew were always being bullies or hateful, just really unpleasant to be around, he decided that doing something to them would just make him at the same level as them. It angered him though. Sometimes he just had to do something against it himself. He saw a solution, helping others. That way he could release his anger by doing something he liked. Those are the reasons he decided he wanted to become a doctor. He and some friends all went to the same schools, but chose different majors at university. They still saw each other alot, which led to them all beginning work on the same station.

At age 19 he went to Dune University. When he was 23 he moved to Luna. He traveled to many interesting places in the galaxy, partially in hopes of finding somewhere he wanted to stay and work, but also to learn about everything around him. He was in a lot of fun, sad, exciting or even horrifying adventures, some a little extravagant, like an outbreak at a slime research facility or something else you'd see in a movie. Yet whatever happened, he never gave up. a year later he began to work on the NSS Exodus. He liked working there, as he met alot of people and learned many things just from working there, like the best way to save someone from slimes.

What do you like about this character?: He knows alot and is nice in general (most often), a good mentor. he might have some bad characteristics, but that won't stop him from actually helping people, even if he's not too nice to everyone he ever met. He has his own little inner circle with people i enjoy playing with.

What do you dislike about this character?: He sometimes acts a little inconsiderate, most likely because of his history with other people. He does not really connect well with alot of people, so he acts like alot of big issues are not really important for others, while being very caring for those he cares about. This also comes from the fact that he has met ALOT of people, so he just can't be bothered to getting to know everyone and such. This creates some situation where it may look like he does not care about patients.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: they're good at what they do, teach people well and try to let people not give up in dire situations, because he thinks giving up is the last thing someone should ever do. If you ask many people about him, they'd say he's a good doctor and leader.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 6.5/10, i can RP pretty good, i interact well with the environment, using emotes and other types of reactions to really breathe life into what i do, but i could learn to limit my characters' knowledge a little. I could also try and expand more on my characters.

Extra notes: 10 points for whoever gets the reference.

I can't give this a +1 due to the fact this application is severely lacking, but I won't give it a -1 since I've seen this character and have had positive interactions with him, so my suggestion before I give a final vote is to brush up this application further, get a name for you planet, write a bit more too it. Remember most of these actions request an approximate to a paragraph and you haven't delivered.

i've worked on it, thanks for the tip.

I've played with you, I've played with you many times, and they weren't bad times, some good RP even if you have your breaking moments, but we all have those.

Story? The structure and prose is EUGH, but it's enough for a simple background that you wanted to give for your character, we can't all be fucking Steakspear and Al Capucino in writting, and I don't feel like writting a backstory should restrict someone from playing a certain role if they are capable.

So I'd allow it, I mean I think we have enough CMOs but there is never enough heads when I'm around so yeah.

+1 from me

EHM, Imagine this cenario in your head.

you and the captain are the only heads of staff on the shift, the captain begins acting out a little and some crew stand to riot against him, shit hits the fan, 10 crewmembers are throwen into the brig mayham is going around the station, you hear about the captain killing rioters and security going rouge.

What do you do ?

I'd probably fax CC, tell my department to be careful of a possible danger, and investigate a little. Of course it depends on the specifics of what went down, like if the crew were to riot only because the captain acts a LITTLE weird, i'd not really notice anything suspicious until they'd randomly die. If shit REALLY hits the fan, i'd call the shuttle.

I've seen Simon Greene in-game, which is a good sign. The rest checks out.

The key requirement of these three questions is that you "please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each". You've fallen completely flat here, giving a mean of 44 words per answer.

Your answer to what the definition of roleplay is is poorly worded and hard to understand. You seem to be listing ideas, but you're unable to expand on them. Just have a read of the two sentences I've underlined, and try to tell me that that makes sense to you. I've seen the prior comments, which state that you are capable of roleplaying, but you can't quite properly explain to me what the concept of "roleplaying" is without stumbling over your words.

The next two answers are way below average. Look at any other accepted Head of Staff application, and you'll see that they put effort into these answers, because they're the most critical of the lot. You, however, have done the opposite, and decided to skip past them, putting in minimal effort and achieving a grand total of two sentences per answer.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: they're good at what they do, teach well and try to give everyone hope in desperate situations.

Your backstory reaches 274 words, so that's good. The issue is that you spend two thirds of it detailing his childhood, and spent the last third explaining that he went to university, travelled around a bit, and for some reason, was invited to work at the NSS Exodus. Why was he invited to work at the NSS Exodus if he'd spent four years getting the appropriate degrees, and then just went on holiday? School teaches you the theory, but it never delves into the practical all that well until you're actually doing the job you've been training to do. Simon would never have been given a chance to demonstrate his skills, so what interest would Nanotrasen have in specifically looking for medical doctors, and choosing a fresh out of university student over a more experienced doctor? It'd likely be the opposite; Simon actually applying for a job at Nanotrasen.

The next thing is that there's no detail in that 12 year gap aboard the NSS Exodus. There's nothing on his quality of work, his effort, how well he cooperated with co-workers. It all feels bland and without the information you'd be looking for in a Head of Staff application, especially considering that the character used in the backstory has to be Head of Staff material, and you need to show this in the backstory.

You then go on to give a near two dimensional criticism of your character. "He's kind" but "he sometimes acts a little inconsiderate". Surprisingly, those are common human traits. How does this actually effect him while working aboard the NSS Exodus? Could you explain a situation in which his lack of consideration for others has lead to problems? And lastly, you describe your character as being fit to be a Head of Staff because "they're good at what they do, teach well, and try to give everyone hope in desperate situations". Desperate situations in SS13 are largely uncanon (I think), making it a null argument, and the other two qualities can be found in any other character.

Overall, I'm sorry, but I expected somebody who was well-liked by the community, and is hailed as a wonderful roleplayer, would put a bit more effort into their application. People with far better applications have been denied due to a lack of feedback, and in this situation, it's the polar opposite: having good feedback isn't going to magically wave away the fact that you're application isn't up to standards.

-1 until it's fixed with more detail is added to questions, and Simon Greene is made a bit more three dimensional.

you know, i like consecutive criticism, but i also like being able to write something without every person i show it at first, to test it, say it's good that way, and then when i show it to others have a ton of people saying what you said.

It'd likely be the opposite; Simon actually applying for a job at Nanotrasen.

actually i had that at first, but it seemed more interesting if you're scouted.

have you ever had spiders in a radiation belt, and while treating people you find out that the engine was not set up well so power goes out?
