Nanako Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Post here your feedback about the sprinting system. Post not only your own thoughts, but also read and respond to any other posts here. I'd like to gather a range of opinions before making changes, as some parts are divisive.
Jboy2000000 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 The whole system seems useless to me. Just something overly complicated for no reason to seem different from the other servers for raisins. I don't even think it's going to see any real use because the speed difference is hardly noticeable, at least I can't notice it, and you tired out and start to take damage at the drop of a hat. All together, this just seems like wasted effort that could have been put towards something more useful, that people were actively interested in.
Chaznoodles Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 IPCs keel over after ~30 tiles of sprinting for a whole minute. Remind me what this adds to gameplay?
Fiskap Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 the speed effects of this just aren't noticeable enough, and you become hungry after sprinting for just a while. basically to me it just seems that you risk getting hungry for nothing if you use this. if you're going to keep this, remove the hunger debuff at least, since that is surely absolutely ridiculous. or adjust it significantly.
Nanako Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 try to keep things constructive guys. I will tweak things based on feedback. Values will be adjusted, no mechanics are going to be entirely removed. @jboy, i don't play on any other servers, and don't know or care what they have, my developments aren't based on them or being different to them. Sprinting has been requested before: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5969 The system is also intended to act as a compromise between those who feel our movement speeds are too slow, and those that find the slower pace suits RP better. Sprinting was intentionally limited and conservative to avoid upsetting the RP environment too much. I will relax things a bit. @Chaz That's what it adds to gameplay, and it removes nothing. No functionality is lost. If you don't like it in its current state, you don't need to use it for now. I went to great pains to ensure the speed which is now 'walk' is the same as the speed that used to be called 'run', and added a way to limit your speed if you want to move slower than what walk offers. @Fiskap: Hunger will probably be reduced a bit, i'm not removing that mechanic though. I've already been thanked by several chef players for giving them more usefulness and involvement as a result. Feedback is valued, please continue posting. The design will be iterated gradually according to community wishes. I'll be pushing a hotfix to tweak values and fix some bugs with the system, sometime in the next 1-3 days. Your thoughts are appreciated
Fire and Glory Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 In my opinion, IPC sprint is fine, they have a leg up over organics because they can recharge themselves almost anywhere and recover quickly.
UnknownMurder Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 We have to fix the walk/run system before this whole thing. Right now, everyone's running to one place and another and you want us to be sanic.

New walking speed is the same as old run (which pretty much everyone used), in fact, you can even set your own walk speed to something lower, so you can still rp going slow. There is literaly nothing forcing anyone to go fast.

incognitojesus Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I am actually enjoying the system. The only thing I have a concern about is how rapidly it drains the nutrition but that's been covered already.
Snoopy11 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 For Tajara sprinting it either feels you lose a lot of stamina too quickly, or you don't increase in speed enough to make it worth it. I 'unno how it's been done, but I assume they're sprinters, rather than long distance runners. Meaning they should go a bunch quicker, for short periods, but I just don't feel it at the moment. I also maybe completely wrong.
Fire and Glory Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I also maybe completely wrong. Taj are meant to be bad sprinters overall, conservation of energy in a winter enviroment and all that. Unathi sprint is fast enough to be bordering on absurd, I advise tuning it back a little bit, make them a little slower, let them run a little further.
Skull132 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Lore Developer feedback for Skrell: Sprint speed to be raised so they're faster than a hunam. Stamina to be kept somewhere between a Taj and a hunam.

I also maybe completely wrong. Yes you're completely wrong. Tajarans aren't runners at all, they come from an icy planet where conserving energy is vital for survival, their sprint is worse than almost everyone else because they're meant to keep a steady pace over long periods. It's a counterpoint to their naturally faster walking speed.
Ron Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Vox should have slightly longer sprint(they run out in like 2 seconds and go to red in 5), same speed as they are very beefy predatory creatures "They often move in what has been described as a hunched-over, predatory stance, signifying a potential evolution from a more primitive predatory raptor. While sentient, they are by no means intelligent. However, what they lack in brains, they make up for with muscle. Members of peditem have a rather overdeveloped adrenal glands and extremely dense muscle fibers that allow them to be capable of great feats of speed or strength under duress. "
VileFault Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Vox, especially since they are so uncommon, should have really beastly sprints. I have to agree there.
Nanako Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Sprinting was updated last night, i'm interested in any other feedback relating to it
UnknownMurder Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Someone mentioned that if you run too much. You can go in critical and die. Not sure if who. You'll have to find him through this GAME ID. Game ID: b3peYf
DatBerry Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Someone mentioned that if you run too much. You can go in critical and die. Not sure if who. You'll have to find him through this GAME ID. Game ID: b3peYf Must've been damaged before or while running, you only get to like 30oxyloss before stopping. Human sprinting is fine, maybe decrease the nutriment consumption sssslllliiiighhttly like 10%-15% IPC running on the otherhand is crap, waaaaay too bad, i dont mind the overheating being a bit too fast, but power cosumption is insanely fast.
