How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A few years

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I love playing Head of Staff roles and the roleplay they provide, I've always had a passion for the management aspect of play (it's like Dwarf Fortress!) and I've been on the whitelist twice before and always have received great feedback on all of them.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came back because the roleplay environment here is amazing and comfortable compared to other 'HRP' servers on the hub.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, multiple times.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay is about separating yourself from the character you are playing, and acting as if you are X person in X setting, relevant to whatever game you are playing. In the case of Aurora, this is playing a believable employee aboard the NSS Exodus/Aurora, in a civilian research setting. You do this within the specific confines of the lore of the universe you're in, irregardless of whether or not something would be possible IRL. (Suspension of disbelief).

Roleplay is about getting to be someone different, having fun, and disconnecting/escaping from 'you' for awhile.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

Ingame, a Head of Staff is meant to be a figure of standard, a standard that others (new or unwhitelisted players) can look up to, ask questions of, and request training/guidance from. They are there to ensure the round is enjoyable for people within the in game regulations and server rules. They help ensure there is a certain standard of roleplay and mechanical play as well by ensuring players know how to work in their departments and serving as an example of a good roleplayer, and should be willing to report issues to staff promptly.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

They have a few responsibilities to other players in my mind, which are the following: Ensuring enjoyment of other players without it being at the complete expense of their own, providing a source of knowledge on the department in which they are the Head of Staff for any IC or OOC questions/training, serving as a knowledgeable person on server rules and corporate regulations/policy as well as a model roleplayer.

In the past as Head, I have achieved these goals by constantly seeking out chances to include the crew in fun activities or challenge them, including creating physical therapy and dog-petting therapy rooms as the CMO, hosting 'science fairs' and 'Xenoarch Exhibitions' as the RD, setting station-wide goals and encouraging use of finances as Captain and HoP.

As well, I've always kept the wiki open during play in the event that if I need to refer to it to help answer questions, I am able to do so promptly and provide linked references. As well, I frequently contacted server staff via ahelp if I thought someone could use some assistance that was outside of my scope, or if I was too busy to handle explaining how Aurora works.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Klaus Eliade

Character age: 34

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Niklaus 'Klaus' Paul Eliade was born born on May 13th, 2425 to a middle-upper class family on Biesel. His parents both worked in mid-level management for the majority of his young life - his father at Hephaestus Industries, and his mother at Bishop Cybernetics - and as such Klaus was often left to his own devices, and frequently had new babysitters, leading to a very detached relationship between Klaus and his family, and little desire to spend more time than required staying in the family home.

At 18 following his graduation from his high school, he enrolled in Laurentian Univeristy in an Honours Bachelor program, for a degree in Emergency and Security Management Studies with a focus on business application. After a mediocre first four years at Laurentian, Klaus left the university with his bachelors degree and transferred to the NanoTrasen-sponsored Garnell University to pursue a Masters is Risk Management. During his studies at Garnell, Klaus entered the working world of private security contracting, starting at NanoTrasen as a Security Cadet before moving up to the position of Internal Security Officer, NanoTrasen would also agree to host him for his required co-operative education hours required for his Masters.

Following his attainment of his Masters in Risk Management, Klaus moved his focus to the sole goal of moving up the food chain at NanoTrasen, a company he had grown fond of working with over the last few years of his education and career.

It's been 10 years since he graduated from Garnell, and he was worked with NanoTrasen as a Security Officer since, and has attained his Warden Qualifications - although it is a position he will only accept assignment too if nobody else is able to make the shift, as he waits not being able to respond to calls. Klaus has formally put in his request for promotion with the Central Command Internal Affairs Bureau at the NTCC Odin, and is patiently awaiting a response, and hopes that the potential salary increase will help him pay off the last of his student loans.

What do you like about this character?:

Klaus feels very natural to play, and he always try to be swift and efficient. He also has a very strong loyalty to NanoTrasen, which makes him very interesting in revolution rounds, as he generally won't join the loyalists or revolutionaries, as he has a strong idea of NanoTrasen which is entwined with his own identity, and being forced by a loyalist or revolutionary leader to do something may contradict the ideal path for NanoTrasen to take. In the past, this led to him being a neutral force, as well as being assassinated by the Captain.

What do you dislike about this character?:

He's sometimes rigid and un-moving due to his adherence to regulations and orders, and will not hesitate to take down even his closest friends if they threaten the company or break regulations. This can make it hard to maintain relationships, and as such he usually maintains purely professional relations with all fellow employees, it's kinda lonely.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

I think Klaus is fit to be a Head of Staff due to his (dependence-based) loyalty to NanoTrasen, as well as his extensive law enforcement and private security experience outside of the company. He has been a Sergeant in a police force which provided him the chance to lead a team of officers himself and supervise shifts. He is also overtly willing to help out other crew members when he's not carrying out orders or responding to calls.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10

It's not excellent, but I would say my ability to create believable characters and interact with others as said character is to the point that I can do so with confidence and not break immersion, my knowledge of the lore of the environment I'm in also helps with this as I can roleplay more deeply in terms of the universe itself, talking about recent politics, world events, the company, etc

Extra notes:

Klaus' biography talks about him being an HoS because he was my HoS character before my whitelist was revoked in coherence with a permanent ban.

I've been a Head since I started playing Aurora, applying three months into my first year here, and removed myself willingly from the whitelist once before reapplying when I was ready. I am re-applying as a result of the aforementioned permanent ban, which has now been lifted.

Xander previously held a whitelist, as stated already. Considering he was banned for his OOC behavior, and if Garn is willing to allow him back, I see no reason why he'd be denied.

I'd rather Xander take some time and get involved in roleplay before bumping up to Head Whitelist. Xander has only been playing for one to two days since the permanent ban appeal.

I haven't really been uninvolved in roleplay, I've kept my skills and experience up by roleplaying on other servers, and the length of this break isn't unlike a break I had taken before, which I came back into head play immediately after. I have three years of experience playing as Heads of Staff on Aurora, and was only absent from January to now due to the ban, the ban which had nothing to do with my IC conduct, nor my Head of Staff play.

But I can understand where you are coming from.

I purposefully let this sit for some time before I replied to see Xander get brought back into the sever and to see how he performed in interim Head of Staff roles again. I've seen him perform well as both an Interim Head of Security and Interim Chief Medical Officer and would definitely like to see Vivian Rival as a CMO. He was competent in the past and as long as he can control himself, I expect that he would be able to handle it again. +1

This may come to you as a quite shock. After a large amount of time have passed and I have been watching you very closely. Pushing our disputes aside, I will say this as an honest man.

You've mature enough since the last we've met (and I can tell from looking at your discord profile picture). Your roleplaying skills has improved better and I'm very glad your OOC conversation has come untainted with the rest of us and I feel better that we can involve you in most conversation that we're hesitant to involve you. As you can separate IC issue from OOC issue and not get frustrated easily on both accounts. I'd say, well done.

I too was a bit skeptical at first, applying as soon as you got unbanned.

but I've seen your behaviour IC and OOC and it's been pleasant, though sadly I haven't seen you in a head of staff position to see how you handle the stress, but I've seen you deal with stressful events as a security officer, other people already stated you're handling interim positions competently.

so i'm willing to +1 this.

Xander is a good friend and great roleplayer, after Klaus was set into the Interim HOS role one day, I watched them ACT like command, it was great. I'm sure Xander would do great in command, just make sure to do the paperwork >:^)

Oh hun, I got about 50 custom forms I made myself sitting in my google drive, don't you worry about paperwork ;D

I think I would have to agree with Sleepy here. He is a good friend of mine as well, to my knowledge. And he is a fairly good roleplayer. I haven't seem him as an interim command position. However I believe their character could handle it. You got the approval of me bud

We're willing to accept your application, but we still have one, glaring issue with it, and it's the character. First and foremost, your character is not applicable for head of staff positions. He lacks a Bachelor or Master's in a relevant field, as per HoS qualifications. You can find those in the Head of Security page on our wiki as the original Qualifications page was scrapped. Second, you gave your character what was possibly the weirdest and worst self-denial issue I've ever seen.

this death would cause incredible financial struggle for Klaus and his father due to the sudden lack of a secondary income, and NanoTrasen offered little to no support under their life insurance policy

Becoming disenfranchised with the force following an incident where the Chief of Police failed to arrest a NanoTrasen official clearly guilty of a crime, Eliade resigned effective immediately.

Eliade signed his new contract with NanoTrasen as a Head of Security, and declared loyalty to the corporation

Like, I understand the dependence thing like you wrote below it, but it makes no sense that someone that got screwed over that hard went to work for the person that screwed them, and not even out of necessity from the sounds of it. On top of that, we believe that your character is just stereotypically bland. In that you have the stereotypical "X got killed. So I joined the force" cop character. We want a sort of rework or adjustment to the character to make them A) Actually qualified. B) Not fit what is the biggest stereotype when it comes to cop stories. When you have that done, just message me.

If he dislikes signing on to be a Warden (despite the increased pay for his student loans) because he can't stand not being a boots-on-the-ground front liner, why would he go one step further and take up a leadership position as Head of Security? Are you going to be yet another front-lining responds-to-every-call HoS? More importantly he was a HoS before the whitelist was stripped by a ban, so if you went up to a HoP right now and he checked your qualifications, it'd be in character that someone who was once cleared for HoS no longer is. Now he's going to be a HoS again. I doubt this is at all an issue that will get in the way of it being accepted, but could some attempt not be made to work this in and explain why your character has this weird sudden lapse in employment as someone who values believable, high roleplay characters, especially for heads of staff? You said his ideals for NT have at one point even led to a Captain having him assassinated so surely there is something that can be made out of this opportunity instead of just ignoring it. I don't know why I was pinged for this, either.

Canonically, him being a Head of Security has been completed retconned due to the whitelist strip, as has happened to most of my characters except a select few. So he has never been a head of security canon-wise anymore. The position of Head of Security is a lot different from the Warden, the Warden is not allowed to respond to calls, period, ever, unless it's a serious emergency and security are fighting a very heavy battle, and even then they are meant to stay and guard the brig. This isn't something Klaus likes, he likes having the ability to still contribute, I'll admit most of his dislike of the Warden roles comes from my own dislike of the Warden role, because most of it for me is sitting at the desk watching cameras, as a Head of Security however, it's possible to create training drills, make initiatives for the round and things like that, I don't intend to respond to 'every' call as the Head of Security, but it's good to respond to them when you're available to see how your officers handle themselves.

On the note of pinging you, I clicked the wrong Munk while @ing people on my phone, oops.

Xander has a tendency to play calloused characters and, as far as I have seen, that has caused him to come into OOC issue with a few people. I haven't paid any attention to those situations to determine who is in the right or wrong on those, but I do have opinions of my own from experience.

I admire people who have the courage to play characters that "go against the grain", so to speak. Anti-synth characters, open racists, extremists, or otherwise holding unpopular views and methods. There is an incredible high-risk, high-reward style to playing that type of character that is unfortunately mitigated by the disturbing trend of people unable to separate OOC from IC. However, on an OOC level Xander is an agreeable person and ICly his characters have proven themselves time and time again to be competent for the position. I've firmly held onto the belief that competence should take precedent over the current popularity contests of +1s and -1s, but this is the rare exception where I will respond on an app with a definite opinion. Xander definitely deserves my +1.

I don't have much to say on the topic of Xander being a head, really, but I have a little bit.

Before his permaban, I really hated the infamous captain, Jester Stamos, for reasons that have been brought up, time and time again. When I learned he was banned, I was actually happy, and, to my regret, I did insult him. However, after coming back, I really enjoyed playing with some of Xander's characters, and I have noticed 0 OOC misconduct from him. We even had a very civil conversation over discord where we reconciled differing points of view.

What does this mean? Xander has changed, and matured, and can listen to different points of view very well. All things vital for a head of staff. At first, I was wary he might just go back to old Xander, and well, he might, who knows? But, in my opinion, he probably won't. I think the reward of having him in a head position massively outweighs the risk of a "relapse".

A definite +1 from me,
