  1. thats the 'engine room' where the singularity generator would be. He tore it up, refitted the whole thing to be supermatter containment and basically built an engine from scratch to power the station.
  2. i do notice a horrifying lack of safety protocols though. you'd need someone to manually throw it outside.
  3. what nooooo i missed it
  4. honestly, and im going to be blunt here, i'm more sick and tired about people talking about a vague sense of hostility than any actual hostile environment. The server is growing, its changing, its not a sinking ship and I feel like some people are upset about the direction its taking, its different than it was when we split from apollo and i understand that not everyone likes it but everything just reeks of rationalization. Maybe people need to step back a bit, its great to be invested in the community, its fine to be emotional about things, but not everything is a personal insult or attack on you, separate the ic from the ooc. And I want to say again, its not a sinking ship. Everyone who says it is has a warped perception, aurora is bigger than ever and I've had more quality rounds recently than six months ago. We are regularly one of the top three servers on the ss13 list, so if that's your idea of dying then you need a reality check. And yes, we should be accommodating to people who don't really know how to do their jobs. That's why every department has their apprentice and intern positions. They're designed with IC instruction of positions in mind.
  5. maybe im not as invested as a lot of you but the way i see it is ss13 is a game, play it if its fun, don't play it if its not. I only play a few times a week however, not like some of you who are on damn near all day from the looks of it.
  6. as engineering last night's cult round I can say this. I made the one bat we had (that I know of), made it because something came in and started breaking lights and not knowing what it was. Wasn't aware we had all that other stuff. That said we didn't do anything unless it came to us, and then we tried to resolve it peacefully rather than through force. Only time I actually used the bat was when I was hiding behind the side of a door waiting for the thing to get in to swing at it around a corner. I think there are two sides to it. Obviously engineering shouldn't be arming up when there is no threat, but we have the knowledge and materials to create things in an emergency. To mitigate, perhaps remove plasteel bat, and transfer metal bat to the autolathe under the illegal items subheading. Then, having a bat would be considered a crime to begin with unless explicit authorization is given by head or higher ranking officer.
  7. i just realized i went in the entirely wrong direction with my posts itt. as an engineer, this sounds great. As long as it destroys the airlock electronics while getting to the bolts.
  8. must be ghosts call cons
  9. how would YOU know if you don't have ghosts? are YOU the ghost hunter? no? didn't think so
  10. why a sitting pope in rome would be an earth supremacist is simple politics. The more power thats consolidated in Sol and Earth, the greater the power, authority, and legitimacy the pope has. 'Franchising' so to speak means there is more than one vicar of christ, more than one head of the religion, and if thats the case why even have a head at all. Its venturing dangerously close to Orthodoxy and a pentarchy type system where the church is led by peers and not a hierarchical system as exists in the catholic church. additionally, just because your religious leaders hold views doesn't mean you have to be forced to hold them too. Catholics aren't clones of the pope I agree with Rusty, it'd be much more sensible to have either full blown sects or splinter heresies than have the church leadership split into two 'equal' parts
  11. i'd be much more amenable to the idea if the 'space pope' functioned as a sort of anti-pope rather than a co-pope at least then there would be some added conflict as to what branch of catholicism you follow, whether you are a traditionalist earth supremacist and follow the pope in Rome or follow the more secular space pope in space station 'Avignon'
  12. this is allowing the dropping of bolts en mass while doors are unpowered. powered or not, you can't open a door that has its bolts down
  13. as it stands right now, when doors are without power bolts can be dropped and not raised. actually doing so, however, requires pulsing of the proper wire (or attaching a signaler) this is theoretically possible right now as a manual addition, engineering could attack signalers to all wires in a department and give the head the code for them allowing for immediate bolt drop at the press of a button.
  14. I feel like they wouldn't need to franchise out due to the current feudal nature of the archdiocese system if anything they'd just add an additional layer or two into the hierarchy with some new titles.
  15. as of now, more times than not augmentations are a liability to characters than a benefit especially if you are in the engineering field and can get hit with the stray emp if you walk too close to the singularity engine (somewhat better now that the emp path has been edited). These are (theoretically) expensive pieces of equipment and are hardwired into the body, made to last. Furthermore, game is set in 24XX while today in 2015 we have the technology to shield electronics from emp effects. Surely the issue would have been solved with simple scientific advancement. HOWEVER I'm not asking for this to just be a free buff, I'm asking for a backpack slot item to act as a rechargeable (dischargeable?) capacitor that will soak one emp blast, be it from singularity or emp grenade or ion rifle. Why backpack slot? 1) it forces the decision to actually use it. Anything else its a simple rearrangement of priorities, with backpack slot you lose 7 inventory slots (more with boxes) for the shielding. Why one charge? on SS13, EMP is a total electronic shutdown. I envision the 'lore' of this item to form a thin energy field around the user while not actually touching, providing an 'insulation' so to speak like how a wetsuit uses a layer of liquid to insulate and protect divers from cold waters. Potential issues - 1) discharge mechanics. My idea is to have it run on batteries with a baseline drain to require recharge or swap out. When hit by emp the battery should fully drain and turn the system off. 2) im not sure if the actual shielding mechanics are possible with the ss13 engine, though i've seen some things I didn't think possible on different servers. Lastly I'll address why I think this fits thematically. The majority of the items in ss13 are cribbed straight from deus ex, and in HR you have an upgrade to entirely eliminate emp damage. I think it fits, and I believe placing it into the back slot is a big enough drawback to not be an overpowered addition. I hope I formatted this correctly, I looked at a few other suggestions and think I put all pertinent information in. -edited to correct subject spelling

    return?

    no need to be hostile towards anyone. as has been said its a complex issue. Given, one I think shouldn't be an issue at all but people react to these things differently. I'm cynical and disillusioned after having been through a number of breakups ranging from bad to horrible so they don't really affect me anymore, but from what I see i'm somewhat older than the majority of the server (judging from the confessions topic at least). So do I think thundy should come back? yes. Do I understand why they'd test the waters and ask permission? yes. Do I think its at all necessary? no

    return?

    obviously i don't know the specifics of your circumstance, but its my opinion that nobody should have the right to dictate whether or not you can go somewhere if you aren't breaking any rules or going out of your way to antagonize people. so if you want to come back, come back
  18. pretty sure steel toed boots have a real mechanic benefit though. They aren't just shoes, I've stepped on bear traps with them before and taken no damage while someone else stepped on one and was in medbay the entire rest of the round with like, shattered bones and blood loss.
  19. no way
  20. i had a ss13 dream then took 2 weeks off
  21. so is there going to be a thread where we can request lore explanations? because there are a few things I'd like to know eg.. Current Pope travel time from Sol to Biesel i guess those are the two biggest
  22. I'm trying to get con's backstory in on his records. I actually have a fair bit thought up and done for him i just haven't written any of it down. I need a formal psych eval on medical records and that'd give a pretty full picture
  23. given its been a long time since I was mining, but I think the miner wearing mesons inside ripley gives mesons view
  24. one time i got yelled at for changing the ai laws to say humans are the only real members of the crew non humans are infiltrators infiltrators must be eliminated when asked to state laws only give the original 5 that almost got me in a lot of trouble
  25. create a spider cave in a reinforced wall room with no exit except a bin leading to space, and an entrance via open chute. I did something like this as an objective-less traitor, had created a little room out in space with a ghetto airlock and supercharged air pump, entrance from maint. Managed to trap one engineer (accident) the HoP and a security officer, then peaced out and hacked into an escape pod to run away after dropping off enough hardsuits for them to escape (shuttle was called and I had no plan for what to do next)
