[DENIED]Sec-ban appeal. Roderick Grey.
pickled_tomato replied to Roderick Grey's topic in Unban Requests Archive
I'm sure most staff members would agree with the idea that very few bans are meant to be permanent. A ban like this serves as an ultimatum to discuss what you've been doing wrong, and to get you to improve. You say you understand that you've wronged and that you plan to improve, then you quickly change the subject. You're not a victim to Delta, he's simply stating what he believes freely. The subject of this thread is you trying to get your ban appealed, Roderick. Try to accept criticism and apply it towards a plan to get better. You mention playing other roles to get a feel for sec outside of the department, which I support. I also support the idea, after a plan of actual improvement is set, for you to be a cadet for a couple of weeks. You could also try spectating rounds, maybe do something in the background while following security and maybe command staff. There's two big things about your play that I see almost every round. You disregard station authority at almost every opportunity you can, almost at an unbelievable frequency. It doesn't make sense. If anything your character should understand that without an antagonist reason, disregarding station command is in nearly every situation is going to lead to more harm towards you than good. You defy commands with childlike logic. I ask you to take your sec gear off, as you were being demoted to Janitor, and you begin throwing your gear at me and slamming it in the table. You intentionally cause trouble for people playing regardless of if you're an antag, and it boarders on self antagging at times. The second big thing I see you doing is an extension on the aggressive thing I see people are already bringing up. You go from zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds. You like to pull out your pepperspray and mash left click in someone's general direction, regardless of if they're wearing eye protection or not. You're always trying to pick a fight, and you often believe you're a victim when something doesn't go your way. You get flustered to the point of saying you're upset in looc, and you let this largely affect your in game behavior. It all comes off as unrealistic, and you need to think a lot more than you currently do before you act. I see a good player in you, Roderick. I mean that. When everything's calm, and you're not building illegal walls for no reason, you play well. You're clearly interested in security, and interest gives motivation to learn and get better. You were getting better, but you need to accept criticism. You wind up breaking server rules, and that's what you're getting shit for. If the formatting for this is trash, it might be because I'm on my phone. -
I searched "cute mice". Mice are viable pets. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?articleid=794 You know what'd make an awful pet? Possums. Domestic mice are fine. Wild mice, like wild cats and dogs, are going to be iffy of course.
-
Look at these two. You dare talk trash about mice? You can't hate this. Anyways; welcome aboard. Community's pretty good right now. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask around. Most staff members would be happy to help if nobody seems to be answering you. Don't be afraid to ahelp (press F1) if you're in game and unsure about anything, or you could join the Aurora General Discord. Bunch of dummies who've been playing ss13 forever. Some of them a little less than forever. Here's a link: https://discord.gg/0sYA49zHYGnKWM9p

All I could think of when I saw those combined with the medbay above was a That's what happens when the AI notices that you're being attacked by slimes, clicks on a fire alarm, clicks on the potential "Activate Sprinkler System: Water" button, and then you don't get glomped a few dozen times while someone tries to find a fire extinguisher, then takes a good minute seconds to spray the slime multiple times, leading to it hopefully dying. Going to make a comprehensive suggestion post detailing the ideas you've inspired.

Regarding Bluesec (Feedback/Opinions)
pickled_tomato replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
I personally like the look of bluesec. I agree with LordFowl in saying the sprites seem higher quality. In regards to the connotations of the colors, since I guess that's an established thing? http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html Yes, colors influence how we perceive things, that's science. What I think is a fair thing to bring up is just how much that perception matters, in which I honestly don't know, all I know is it does on some level. http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11747-010-0245-y I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but there's legitimate studies on this, Chaz. It's common ground for people who are experienced in marketing. I'd rather be associated with blue's trust, loyalty, and stability than red's war, danger, and strength. American police have been using blue tinted uniforms for many years and I think a security force aboard a station in which people are expected to do their jobs that they make a living off of and likely devote their life to should be using a more cool color pallet opposed to what security's primary color is now, which is arguably blood red. -
We could really make this complex and make putting the pill in your mouth and swallowing two separate actions. The swallow itself may not be as noticeable. UM does bring up a slightly relevant point, essentially the one counter argument. I'm not entirely sure it can be done. It could be made to be fairly complex. Drinking liquids with the pill in your mouth could stealthily swallow it. There could be a command such as *swallow or even some sort of interaction in the Object Tab. The pill could possibly dissolve in your mouth on it's own for decreased effectiveness, possibly a reaction to a bad taste, too. "Mouseako Mouseojiro's face cringes up slightly". Something along those lines. Really, I'm just making a simple thing unnecessarily complicated. It's a good idea though, the visible pill swallowing I mean. The one situation I could see a secretive pill swallow being a slightly important thing is if it's a suicide pill and you're an antagonist of sorts. Even then it's a very specific situation.

Yeah. Hi. Welcome back.

My bias for Catnip aside, I think this is a more than fair custom item request. It's simple, and adds a bit more to Dylan in a nice, subtle way. +1

Youbar's Dionaea Application
pickled_tomato replied to Youbar's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I like how much you appear to like dionaea, although I'm going to say a few things that I think are important and sort of easy to miss. Dionae are for the most part genderless, asexual. There is no "she", there is technically only a "they", as they're multiple organisms, multiple nymphs specifically. This isn't to say that a dionae wouldn't be able to slightly sound like, and maybe even act in a way that leans towards one gender over the other, but this is getting into a social argument that doesn't really belong in my post honestly, as I don't care one way or another. Nymphs work together in a way to "pilot" a gestalt in a way, although it is also quite similar to a hivemind in the way they're fused, and work together. A diona would be a nymph, dionae would be a gestalt(multiple nymphs), and dionaea would be multiple gestalts. Typically. They refer to themselves as "we" generally, as again, they're multiple organisms. You could even say they're a team, really. Most other things are as you said, "open to interpretation", as a lot of the wiki is a bunch of "we don't know", or "needs more research". Killer, the loremaster for diona, essentially wanted them to be that way. Open to interpretation. Keep in mind however that dionaea as a whole is pretty subject to change as of recent. Lots of changed mechanics and such are currently being planned. Anyways, I like your post. I hope you get accepted since pretty much everything I mentioned is rather easy to keep in mind, and you seem to be pretty into the race, which is a large chunk of the criteria I think. Have a +1, and good luck. Edit, since it came to mind after I posted: A few mechanics, specifically weaknesses for diona are iffed up on Baycode. The wiki's a bit wrong in this regard. They're immune to fire, and plants-be-gone. Doesn't affect them at all aside from being on fire, which they don't even feel. They lack pain receptors, and thus would likely have a tough time understanding physical pain. Uh, yeah, that's about it. Again, good luck. -

Here's my obligatory message vouching for Rabit as a whole. It's totally not biased. So, where to begin. I've played with Rabit a lot. An incredibly large number of times, many of said times being entire rounds. Her character Alexis Sutton, and mine, Isabella Silva, are on good terms, since they've both been security'ing for a while. Rabit's a solid player all around, is incredibly confident, and, actually, I like to think of Rabit as a very intelligent person in general, as Rabit's displayed time and time again just how well they can handle everything that's thrown at them in a fun an interesting way. Smart, planned out, fun, confident, fair(a thing I rather like), and realistic, are all words I'd use to describe how Rabit plays and holds themselves up, and I have absolutely no doubt that Rabit would make an excellent Head of Staff character, regardless of what role it's for. I give a very confident, and honor-bound +1

Byond key: Pikl Character names: Isabella Silva, Claire Glimmer, Abigail Waite, Once Upon A Midnight (Edit: Is now named "Song Of Symphony" due to in game events.) , Fulfilling Thy Duty What times are you available? In GMT: Well, when I'm home I'm generally available until I sleep. I live in Midwestern America, which is five hours behind GMT. I guess my general schedule in a day is waking up at around 6 or 7 AM for my summer job, be at summer job for 8 hours, come home, and get on Aurora, or at least spectate the round in progress, until I fall asleep anywhere between 11PM and 3AM. This is all Central Time, of course, just add five hours and you'll have my GMT hours I'm available. Do you have any experience with Moderating? Or similar. Yes. I've moderated a few Minecraft servers, and generally on some chat servers I'm a part of I have permissions, as people trust me sometimes. How the moderating of the Minecraft servers went down was there was one pretty big server, called Lycosa, and the owner decided to end it. The community decided they were going to start another server, based around the same player-base of sorts, and I was a moderator of that, too. I handled young children trying to be edgy by destroying other's creations, and general chat based rule enforcement. I was trusted with this role when I was around 13 or so, actually, and I like to believe I've matured a lot since then. I'm now 18. Why do you want to be in the CCIA Division? Well, the one thing I always disliked about being a moderator, or even any position of having to distribute punishment, is how it lacks a kind of personal touch I suppose. Rules are rules, and good moderators or even staff in general know them by heart, or at least should, and better ones know how to take context into perspective. Context. It's a word I find myself thinking about a lot when I think about these kinds of things. Really though, context. It's a big one. In my opinion it's the number one thing somebody who's distributing punishment, or thinking about it, should consider. I'm going to give an example, as context makes the game more fun for everyone. Say there's an engineer and an engineer apprentice who've been asked by a friendly barman to help him renovate his bar. Barman has great ideas, and it's not something people see every round, it's a neat set of renovations and it's keeping everyone happy, busy, and giving people chances to roleplay, and the engineering apprentice a chance to get some firsthand experience, which she greatly needs. Well, everything's fine and dandy, until you take into consideration that they don't have a permit to renovate. Oh no! They are breaking station rules, and can be sent to the brig for various charges. Are they criminals? Yes. Are they violent criminals who are inconveniencing anyone, aside from possibly a head of staff who may become furious, demanding them to be brigged? No. They are not violent, and with context of the situation it's pretty easy to see they got a lot of positive things out of their renovations. What can you do as a head of staff, or any role that distributes punishment? Many things, depending on how much of the context you care to consider. I'd imagine the thing you could do that'd make everyone happy is to stop what they're doing, ask them why, when they tell you why decide to help them get a late permit. Problems are problems, and there's going to be many different viewpoints over certain things, especially when rules and punishment are involved. Nothing is black and white, we're human beings after all. We're all oceans of thought and ideas, waves sometimes colliding violently. It's only natural. Many problems need careful consideration and thought in order to solve, and I think that's something I'm actually fairly good at, and rather enjoy doing, if I'm giving myself honest credit for something at least. Now, this all is going over how much I should've written, but imagine getting to interview everyone in a situation like this in game. I think that's quite fun indeed, and good for the server if you've the right judgement for it. So many conflicting viewpoints to such a simple situation. That's pretty exciting in my eyes, being able to decide something like that in such a personal, fairly roleplay intensive manner. How well can you handle stress? I handle it okay, it varies depending on how much something means to me though. I really can't say I don't have moments where it overwhelms me, as I do, but I'm normally the one bringing the stress upon myself, thinking about what I could've done better in a situation or whatnot. I guess on the flip side this drives me to get better at things, more efficient, and to find ways to make everyone happy, as I enjoy doing. I enjoy making a difference, and I don't enjoy doing something poorly. Really though, in situations of conflict, at least conflict not aimed at me, I am good at keeping a neutral perspective, no matter how stressful the time and place is. I approach things with an open mind and with my opinions held back until I feel I understand what's going on. I guess a bad side of what I just said is I may wait too long, or never say anything at all. But in another light, it means my decisions will be well thought out. I guess put shortly, I like things resolved, but I like them resolved carefully, and in a fair way. I'd say a chunk of this could be displayed in the role of a security officer, in which I enjoy playing. Even so, I always end up annoying my stressed out, sometimes aggressive fellow officers when I logically advocate for why somebody has been arrested. If anything, sometimes I have a lack of stress, actually. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. What does it mean to be an agent? You're a more interpersonal moderator to a degree. I see incident reports fairly often, and I always wonder what actually goes on behind them. They're private to much larger degree compared to any of the other complaint systems. It's the poster of the complaint, the officers, and the one who was posted about. At least from my understanding of things. There's no audience, and thus I'd imagine the outcome of the incident would be quite fair and unbiased. The real world doesn't operate like many comics and cartoons like to put it. There is no good and evil, at least in an overarching sort of way. People who commit crimes have reasons that in their minds justified the potential consequences. Duty Officers sift through notions of good and evil and simply find if there's something that violates station directives, and if that person is deserving of a punishment, through private, and personal means. Listening to both sides before reaching a decision. For qualities of an agent: There is no ideal, and I'd imagine certain types of people will find different ways to contribute to an agent's agenda. In very general means though, you would have to care very much about being neutral, fair, observant, curious, and maintain professional mannerisms and thoughts while working through a case. Although, it really is impossible to define a perfect person for the job, because there wouldn't be. You have a team of humans beings operating as officers, too, and I'd imagine if you're too closely connected to certain people in a case, you would need to find the humility to admit that you're too closely tied, and will be unable to work without a bias. How active on the forums and server are you? When I'm home I actively check and recheck the forums, to the point where I keep clicking refresh to see if somebody has posted something. So, I guess a lot. On the server, I'm pretty active when I'm home. As stated in my answer to question two, I'm either spectating or playing for the most part. If I'm not on the server, I'm readily available to get on, and probably will if asked on Discord or something of the like. Anything else to add? Looking forward to seeing who the next line of officers will be. How exciting. Do let me know if I've misinterpreted what a CCIA member's duty is, as I wasn't able to find a page detailing all the specifics. Admittedly, I asked around a bit.

[Approved] SirCatnip's Head of Staff Application
pickled_tomato replied to Catnip's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm a bit late on this one, but I have a lot of two cents to put in. Hi. You may know me for my character Isabella Silva, a security officer who's absolutely amazing at being awful and bland. I've played with Dylan for many many rounds and am actually pretty good friends with him, so I might be biased, but oh well, I've played with him, and I respect him way too much to not write a post shilling the heck out of him. Dylan is an incredible leader when he needs to be. I'm not kidding, you look for qualities you'd want in a leader, Dylan's got those. I've been legitimately baffled in how efficiently he's been able to unify security and issue intelligent and safe orders. He took charge, he maintained empathy, he was, and is, a relate-able leader, one who people can actually want to follow, and look up to. It's amazing seeing what he can do. He understands what it means to be security, as people never seem to realize. Just as the antagonist's overarching goal is to make the round more fun for everyone, to push for things to happen in a creative, RP rich way, so is security's. Security enforces regulations, and tries to keep the station, and it's crew, safe, happy, and able to do their job without worrying about somebody wanting to kill them. A good example of what I'm trying to say: Take a wizard. Wizard rounds are cool, right? There's a wizard, yes? They're nice. They're a kind wizard. You know what Dylan would do? Dylan would be nice to the kind wizard, and probably get them an ID or something, I don't know. Point is, Dylan knows how to make a round fun. More fun for everyone, this including antagonists, and people who break regulations for whatever reason. Everyone deserves a good time. Dylan has mechanical knowledge, and RP skills in massive amounts, and I think he will, if he gets the position, be the best of the best. He will be a shining example of an amazing head of security. Praise Bread-Sie +1 -

I remember this shift like it was yesterday, all thanks to this post. Holy moly, it's all so impressive, I'm taken aback that you wrote about this situation involving my character over others and it's interesting hearing Echo's side of the story. This all happened during that one shift that took place maybe a week ago when most of the station blew up. Fun times. One day Silva won't be utterly useless. One day.. One day. As a side note, she owes Echo her life many times over. Extremely fun times.

I've played a lot of rounds in which I've had a lot of contact with Alexis Sutton, her Security Officer character, and they've all been great times. This all being said, all I see in this application is great ideas for a character, and characters and an eagerness to learn/play a Tajara. This is great, I like it a lot. +1 !

I love playing with Palos and I feel like he actually makes a big difference in every round. Along with this, Palos backs it up with some pretty great roleplay. Now, I myself have never done any research on diona ever, but if I did, I'd think this is an actually cool way of portraying what a diona's thought process would be like and how they'd describe their past. I actually like the backstory quite a lot. BiggOS +1(OS) for the brilliant and glorious PalOS. May his teleportations be missed as he's gardening as a dionaea and rattling with my dionaea like never before seen. Lets face is, dionaea need friendship.
