[Accepted]Somethingiguess's Skrell Application
ClearThoughts replied to VVipEdout's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I played a surgeon IPC for a while with a hankering for mouthing off at people. A lot of the best roleplay I'd had was with Moira, whether she was an antag or not, she always aimed to exploit the exploitable in a creative fashion, and go for grand-stand experiences that involved more than one player / department at a time. I had good experiences with Moira, and I feel like they have what it takes to join the Wrbl cult. That being said, I'd like to see them branch out with a few more characters. While of course, we all get attached to our favorites, the biggest part about playing another species is that you are in fact not human. There's different queues, responses, body languages, and social norms that need to be taken into account when playing these races, and Skrell being one of the more.. Odd race behaviors, takes a lot of premeditation to play. Incidentally, this is also my personal favorite species aboard the Aurora, which indites a certain bias into people playing them, as I want to see them played well. I +1 this app, if only to see this player widen their horizon of play. -
While a man with few characters, I'd normally expect people going for whitelists to have at least a few more than 2, but I'd say at the very least that Malcolm Reeves is a solid character, and that I could see PredatoryInstincts playing a head of security at the least. From what I've gleaned from his personality OOC, it seems that he puts a good number of thoughts and premonitions into how Reeves reacts to each situation. While not always translated the best into writing, he makes a character that you can get to know, and even associate with if you have the right background. +1

BYOND Key: ClearThoughtsGame ID: bX2-cbM0Player Byond Key: Lichfield Agathus' Ckey is memescopemcgee Samuel Sandford's Ckey is riqpleydagasdStaff involved: Tbear13 . They stated they handled it in game after I asked if it would be better handled there. They responded to me saying they handled it. I did not feel however they were learning much of anything, and this is not to the detriment of Tbear13, but that I would like to make a further complaint to remove the detective from the security role, and to let the EMT know they aren't exactly representing the best interests of IAC. Reason for complaint: Poor handling of an IC situation, bad judgment, and altogether failure to assess character traits over scenario. Explanation below: It started at the beginning of the round in the bar, as usual. I was playing Joseph Ward, freelance journalist. With nothing to report on, the man turns to the sauce. Tipsy enough, I pick up the cake hat and begin swapping the hair flower pin of Valerie Aquila ( ShesTrying ckey ) . Valerie begins arguing with Joseph. The Quartermaster, Sophia Cynthai, walks in to the scene. Valerie calls her to aid. Joseph puts his hands up, saying that he's not looking for a fight, but verbally antagonizes Sophia anyway. The jackets come off and the fight ensues, ending with Joseph pinning Sophia to a table and breaking her ribs, damaging her heart and lungs as a result. Sophia is hauled away to surgery, and the singular security officer issues Joseph a verbal warning. He hands Valerie the hairpin back, and the situation is settled. Turns out Sophia was an antagonist of the traitorous variety, and came back around half an hour later, killing Joseph with a semi-automatic rifle. Honestly, great roleplay. Loved the whole scene. However, this is where things..Went downhill. Sophia drags Joseph's corpse into the surface level cargo lobby. Cornered, the AI locks all the doors. At this time, the detective, alone, is trying to mediate the situation. His fear of her rifle was well played. Right up until he decided to walk face first towards her and stand three steps away while she was defiling the corpse of the late Joe Ward with a tactical knife, breaking the knife and then grabbing a Shuriken, trying to decapitate the corpse. The detective made no attempt to detain her, even with a security borg on site, and the AI on their side. Simply watching, commenting about the nicety of her rifle choice, making bets on the caliber, the psychopath, well played by the way, bartered the following: She would desist and come peacefully if the detective would get her something to decapitate the corpse with. The EMT, a fervent IAC representative, offered their circular saw from surgery. Accepting the deal, they stood and watched while Sophia emptied her rifle magazine onto the floor, reloading it one by one while another EMT went to grab the saw. The saw was then handed to Sophia by another security officer that showed up, all of which standing three squares away from this psychopath, providing her with a roller bed as well. Sophia then explained that she killed him "Because people like him deserve to die". The EMT automatically assumes the man must have been a child molester, see "Kiddie diddler", to no comment from Sophia, and responds with "good riddance.", assisting her in de-limbing the corpse and spreading his remains across the room by giving her all the tools necessary, and standing by as she did, watching. After the situation continued for, a good thirty minutes, the crew cleared out and the detective walked with the heavily armed individual calmly back to security, where he said "Well i cant process you, I dont have the authority", giving her a shower, where she, once again, disarmed herself and showered. The detective, standing by, idled time, rambling on about how he was "Different than other security officers" until she got out of the showers, and the two walked to the shuttle. The two even sat beside one another on the ride home, sharing smokes. The detective even offered to see her in prison during her sentence, calling her his friend. All the while the IAC EMT, states to everyone that can hear, "Yeah he was a kiddie-fiddler, good riddance" to anyone that asked about the scenario. AAAAAAAAA These snapshots might be out of order. The round ended with the detective saying : I'm not sure which I hate the most either, buddy And all in all, I had given her the flower pin back. So I'd like to say Thank you, Sophia, you gave great roleplay and poached a great scenario, giving the blufor multiple chances to come and take thee. I liked my murder. I thought it was well played and the roleplay was on point. I just wish the reactive roleplay was better. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? I did ahelp it. However, I am still making a report. Tbear13 handled the concern post-round with the two, but I do not believe that summarized just how bad it was, and would like to put it in paper.Approximate Date/Time: 27DEC2018 , morning (CST)

Thankya! That's alright. These past few months have been really hectic to me RL, so my desire to play games in general has been diminishing. My place on Aurora has resided in Discord for a while now, with most of my (SS13 at least) roleplay taking present in discord PMs, but if attendance is an issue, I do not at all mind taking extra time to divert to playing a few more rounds, as now I have the ability to do so.

Well, the idea sprung from the mechanic that they do in fact "Eat" as nymphs, consuming blood, veggies, food, literally anything that scrambles across their path (mice) to eventually produce other nymphs and form a gestalt. This is core proof and reinforcement of the fact that dionaea don't just feed off of "radiation and light", which would both take forever and not allow them to "grow" in any meaningful rate, which has to lead to these individual nymphs intaking some sort of matter to produce more nymphs. Their extra-atmospheric orbits would have to seek out some form of dust, gas, or radical particles to consume and turn into usable nymph-matter. Filtering gas via being a walking scrubber would make them both super valuable on station (Not that engineering doesn't love them enough already), but would give an extra incentive to play the plant people. For the relation of plants to diona, they're.. Well, they aren't plants, nor animals. Under normal classification, they don't fall under any, but their appearance would lean towards plant-like, or even fungal. I'd like to change their physiology to better reflect this, and show that they share something much in common with earth sharks: apex. They've reached their evolutionary peak. There is no predator (known) that would threaten diona, nor a reason for them to change their bodies at all. They already are "perfect" for their environment. Relating back to the colossi, I'd like to provide two notes: 1. Colossi regularly jettison "rogue" nymphs that don't add to the chorus of voices. The nymphs that, for whatever reason, do not agree with the majority of the colossus and do not work to help the colossus in any way are jettisoned. Diona are not known for cannibalism (eating nymphs doesn't count, since its technically "stacking" nymphs.), but there is a clear notation that they are capable of consuming other sentient beings (see: Weirun Tup), rather, their bodies. I don't see why it wouldn't be a good idea that gestalts are actually collectives of "rogue" nymphs which could symbolize that their gestalt is not a collective of nymphs that represented the qualities of nymphs from a certain colossus, but in fact the inversion of those qualities, because if the nymphs were truly at home and in synch with their greater gestalt, why would they ever leave? 2. Nymph harvesting/poaching. NT has nymph pod seeds. This is known. It is also known that NT grows nymphs and researches them, claiming ownership as long as they remain in nymph form (non-gestalt). This can play into a hand of "NT is acquiring diona for labor work as they are cheap and can be fed on nothing more than radiation and light to survive. Strap a headlight to one and throw it a mop, bam, a cheap janitor." The colossi-born gestalts, however, will hold a moan of resentment of NT for this. A quirk of personality that they do not appreciate NT abusing the eon-long replication cycles of colossi and gestalt alike to produce more nymphs, and attempting to turn their species into cattle, self-preservation standing up and throwing its chair onto the stage. As for likability.. That's difficult. Diona aren't HR. They never have been, and I wouldn't want them to be. They aren't exactly kind, nor malevolent. They're just...biological computers? That's the way I think of them, anyhow. The enigmatic personalities of the diona have always been difficult to roleplay in a "Diverse" manner that wouldn't breach the image of a shambling, slow-talking image of a seven foot tree-fungus-root-animal-critter monster that wanders through the halls chanting in some dialect only my grandmother's fern could decipher. While i'm all for increasing the diversity of their playability, I would have to put a foot down and say that they aren't dogs nor cats, they're sentient, ancient stellar creatures with a purpose unknown to anyone outside of a diona, and most of the time not even the diona itself. And upon that note, I will have to brainstorm a bit to expand on their "purpose", but to answer your question: People like the tree-people, even if they aren't very likable.. . Hard to answer, but the answer is in there. I'd definitely say that they're Valuable as a better descriptive for their role on the station than "likable".

Colossi are referred to as the size of (at the time) interstellar ships, and being durable enough to retain structure while exposed to the upper atmosphere of stars and the lower atmosphere of gas giants, should be quite well able to contain enough gas and apply pressure to the gas in an exertion to create thrust. This thrust wouldn't get them off any 1.0G planet, but it can certainly get them to interstellar drift. I guess the largest area that I'd like to expand on is their travel itself, perhaps why I'm so centered on it. Figuring out how they travel can create quite a bit of lore for dionaea gestalt origin. Knowing where your character came from, where that colossi drifted from, and what (initial) contact that larger form had with the other races can create a basis of culture for the player to rely on.

Ckey/BYOND Username: ClearThoughts Position Being Applied For (coder, mapper, spriter): Diona Past Experiences/Knowledge: For lore? I've been roleplaying for over a decade now, been on Aurora for about a year and a half, and have a general love for realistic sci-fi such as SS13, Star Citizen, Elite:Dangerous, Star Trek, etc. I was definitely infatuated from a young age with space and extraterrestrial environments. Examples of Past Work: My discord has a list of my characters, as does any application for species whitelists that I've made. I have every whitelist now except for Tajaran and Vaurca. While I don't have much on hand in the way of written paragraphs, I can give some information on one of the characters I had made by the name of James Beckett (HoS). Preferred Mode of Communication (Skype, Steam, etc.): Discord ( Testopringo#9976 ) Additional Comments: What would I do for the diona? I'd like to expand on the amount of clusters and origins that the diona currently have. I don't feel as though there's enough information to make a solid character other than "huggy peaceful tree". It'd be interesting to reinforce the species-wide suspicion that other races have of them. Mechanically? I think diona are pretty solid as is, but technically when in space, they should be fine as they can collect radiation and starlight to survive, without the need for a flashlight. A flashlight is only really needed indoors where they are cut off from both the cosmic rads and the starlight. The notation "Weakness to fire" doesn't make any godforsaken sense either, as these creatures thrive orbiting stars. They're exposed to thousands of degrees of heat and can replicate from the mass intake of energy. A simple welder-fire incident shouldn't even harm them by the current lore standards. As for the rest of the colossi, I'd like to introduce a few more diona satellites, and provide some more lore on the "Dead Planet", hoping to make it a viable character base for anyone looking to make a shambling bush originating from the dead world. As for how diona "travel" through space to populate new areas, I'd like to add the scroll compression idea. It'd make a lot of sense that this would be the most organic method of travel, unless we start delving into how "diona are actually bluespace" in terms of how they move about. It'd come down to that whenever a colossus nears a cloud of gas, whether it be a star's exosphere, a nebula, a gas giant or other source of gas, it would use groups of nymphs to pocket this gas, compress it, and eject it from the rear, effectively "pushing" itself with a jetstream of gas behind it to navigate. This can mean a variety of things: 1. Colossi travel. We could even have an event in which a colossus nears Tau Ceti and begins to drift near the Aurora II, prompting more research into diona physiology, sociology, and biology, as well as a possible threat of a reoccurance "Organic Craft Incident" should no craft be on standby with technology to interact with the colossus or Shell. 2. Reverse-Vaurca. Diona could very possibly leak oxygen, having compressed it inside of them. This could work as a game mechanic, making them moving atmospheric processors, however adding the necessity for oxygen to thrive would make most of their existence useless, but a fun concept nonetheless. 3. Tracking Colossi. Skrell have an adoration for Dionaea, having been the discoverers of the species, as well as the first to make contact with them. Each new Shell is brought to conversation by the Skrell, and it would make sense that for the compressor propulsion to work, it would leave trails of residual gas from their propulsion. The Skrell could very well track these "snail trails" to find new colossi much like "warp trails" in many other science fiction lorebases.

[Resolved] Player Complaint - Biabri

BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Game ID: bQi-cHDw https://gyazo.com/520ccbab2704afe11be724d98daf274e Player Byond Key: Biabri Staff involved: None at the time. Reason for complaint: This'll be a bit long. I started out the round as Joseph Ward, joining midway in as the job Journalist. Immediately I make an announcement "Goood morning Aurora, this is Ward, host of Ward's Law, and we'll be on shortly!" Some of the crew remembered Ward, so they responded generically with a greeting or a "Ward, don't use the common channel, please, if you're gonna talk. Use a channel feed or the entertainment channel." So I said "Alright. I'll go start a feed". Joe Ward is a xenophobic ATLAS spokesperson (self-proclaimed), and is very supportive of Sol's interactions with the Tau Ceti system. He started up a feed channel that did not sit well with the captain, played by UnknownMurder, character name Vincent LeChiffre, who called Ward in. At this time, Fiore ran to the library where Ward had been sitting, and stalked him closely to the bridge. I figure, "Eh. It's her job." By this point I'd made one post on the feed about the Warble Enquirer's article on the Jargon Federation uniting some republic on its outskirts back into the Fed, and how this was all the frogs' fault to begin with. I make the articles with enough vagueness to where anyone who wanted to spit back at Ward with facts could easily do so. The AI seemed a little hunty about it, but I ignored it for the most part. Fiore, however, created a public channel feed named "Joseph Ward for Injunction now!" and posted "Add your name to this list if you think Ward should get an injunction!" Possibly the least professional thing she could have done, without asking Ward to do Anything regarding his words, or contact him about what he posted on his feed. Nobody really took on to the "Injunction" feed. Ward arrives at the Captain's office (after a few crashes) and the Captain explains to him that he's to be "promoted" to Crisis Reporter, given security access and a headset, and ordered to report on ONLY station events, the crew, and NT-approved articles. But hey, a promotion's a promotion. Ward accepts, with glee, and goes out to do his new job. Fiore gets called in just after he leaves, and is ordered by the captain to hold her smugness or remarks about Ward to herself, and that they are not to be broadcasted over comms, public or otherwise. ( https://gyazo.com/30cc59e801f738aafc53ea466efe1884 From LeChiffre's player, UM, post round.). Ward went about his business from that point on, reporting on security, medical, general crew behavior, interviewing the HoS briefly, and collecting pictures. Ward eventually gets back to his library, and an assistant runs in, starts dismantling all his floors, and Ward reports him to security. The guy keeps doing it, laughing at Ward, so Ward hops up and disarms the crowbar from the guy's hand, taking it into his bag. The assistant assaults Ward with an electrical toolbox for this, and security arrives along with the captain. Fiore arrives shortly after this, laser rifle in hand as she was hunting spiders. She was told multiple times by the HoS to put the rifle away unless she was actively shooting, and she ignored the order. Whether she heard it or not, the order was stated multiple times. Following up with this, Ward was giving his statement in the brig, The Head of Security, played by SonicGotNuked, ordered the rifle back from Fiore, as the threat of spiders had passed and the carp were not an issue. Fiore seemed to refuse on the grounds of "I'm sniping carp", ignoring her superior once again. ( https://gyazo.com/200e899681f456a558e7b18b3ded638e ) ( https://gyazo.com/7a463fe19fd4185ce3d53a85758cf285 ) I spoke with Biabri after the round, and they stated the rifle was already turned in at this point. An Unathi officer then showers Ward and the assaulting assistant Green as the shuttle is called, the captain giving the officer orders to take Green onto the shuttle, as Green continued lying, despite the captain having witnessed the crime. Ward made a remark, laughing at how crazy Green must be to continue the front, trying to get Ward arrested for assault. Fiore chimed in with "Shower him harder" as they were cleaned of blood ( https://gyazo.com/8783a506cdcf2eb75657af1703374b0a ) And ( https://gyazo.com/acf22a730da1fbbcd714cfe0c409c54b ), and at this point, the captain (By UM's word,) ordered her to be arrested, sending the HoS to file a warrant for her arrest. I get to departures just in time for the shuttle, and see the HoS verbally stating that Fiores is under arrest. Fiores looks around to the crew and says "Who here objects to this arrest?" To which the captain properly replies "This isn't a democracy" ( https://gyazo.com/3129adff7e92b1d7849239bc8cb789af ) and he's right. The captain is the ultimate authority on the station. It's your boss' boss. After being warned multiple times to give in to the arrest, the HoS applies cuffs to her, she resists, and a fight ensues where she beats the HoS to the floor with her baton, is taken down by the surrounding security and the captain, in a crowded departures lounge. ( https://gyazo.com/c057d2b82a899fa6cbc01ce6feb72e44 ) ( https://gyazo.com/924adc651d1987a99bfe7d40e2b06d18 ) ( https://gyazo.com/b9e59ba5f115662e859fbb96d0e85981 ) After which she is cuffed and loaded into the shuttle, calling the HoS a "wuss" and attempting to break out of her cuffs while in the shuttle brig with three security personnel. ( https://gyazo.com/f2493594ba1ce6ceec1d1d6ccce167fa ) ( https://gyazo.com/5fc078ff8f240c3c3db3fdbf458042b9 ). It all seemed fishy at the time, like I was missing something. Some perspective to it, so I contacted the three people involved: SonicGotNuked (HoS Aele) , Biabri (Fiore), and UnknownMurder (Captain LeChiffre). Here are their conversations with me. Sonic: https://gyazo.com/1fd08b4482f3a3e8189f54e2402bb1d9 Biabri: https://gyazo.com/44824c85fcc9e0ac368e3e1b1c36bff0 https://gyazo.com/2de202c0df6e73dcd6ecae53d1299753 https://gyazo.com/9b04367b7dac935e00af40a365f03cfd https://gyazo.com/39150070ffa4658f3310403f2fdf0539 https://gyazo.com/a318658ada5f058bce54a8b0fbaf69d8 https://gyazo.com/ab57febc101b7562fd8edd9bf5d9525e UnknownMurder: https://gyazo.com/30cc59e801f738aafc53ea466efe1884 This doesn't seem very professional, and while this would have simply been a long-ass IR, this is continuous player behavior and slightly meta (With the whole "I think Ward is a dick, so Fiore thinks he's a dick. We've never met before this shift, but I'm going to treat him like i've known him for weeks"). I feel this complaint is true and justified, and if I've missed anything, please don't hesitate to let me know or correct me on something. This is a mixture of my perspective and the three other people involved. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? It didn't seem like it needed to be ahelped until the end there, and I wanted to get the perspectives of everyone involved before proceeding with anything. [Denied] HunterRS Head of Staff App
ClearThoughts replied to HunterRS's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
If I may throw in two cents here, a lot of me is concerned that Hunter is pouring too much of himself into Edgar. The personalities between the two are very similar, and having now witnessed..half a dozen odd applications of the Same character (Edgar) being put forward, I would put forth a -1 until you can come up with an entirely new character with no relation, knowledge, or interaction with any of your previous characters. It would prove that you have the ability to properly create and meter the backstory on an important character than can ultimately change a round with their administrative privileges and leadership abilities. For where it stands, -1. -
BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Game ID: bP9-aFyb Player Byond Key: Biabri (Discord is Nyumu~) Staff involved: SirCatnip Reason for complaint: They seem to play characters that simply justify xenophobic remarks, things that upset their character, or people making comments about their character as grounds for murder and bodily harm. Out of character they back this up, and do not show a good attitude towards contributing to a roleplay situation. Across multiple shifts I have not seen their behavior improve, constantly butting heads with security and resisting arrest when she tries to take matters into her own hands as a Nurse or Paramedic. This is not acceptable behavior for heavy roleplay. My first interaction with their character Amy Periwinkle was on 24AUG2017 around midnight. I was playing Joseph Ward, my assistant and self-made radio host supporting ATLAS. It was a crossfire round, in which the mercs decided to be ATLAS Sol Marines/terrorists that would board the station and commandeer it, "liberating" it from the onboard administration. Things were going to hell. as Ward, I entered survivalist mode, taking my only personal objective to Survive. I entered medbay, figuring that the place where people get fixed is the best place to be, and due to Ward making xenophobic remarks and altogether supporting ATLAS, perfectly legal mind you (Not the marines, the faction. Nothing wrong with Saying you support atlas or hate aliens.), Amy decides to take this matter into her own hands and walks up wordlessly to Ward, stabbing him in the chest with a syringe. Ward pulls a baton (no charge, just a beating stick) and yells, "GAH, You little shit! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT" as she runs off to the body of a fallen ATLAS marine, stealing their energy shield and ion rifle, firing at Ward without word. She yells "Xenophobic scum!", neither of them being antagonists. Ward yells back "Stay the fuck away from me, you fucking crazy piece of shit!" Ward's got a way with words. I let her off with the remark, "Touch me again and you're dead, buttercup" Having been shot at enough today, he continues to assist medbay in an attempt to show Atlas isnt all murderers and hostage takers, unlike how the marines were acting. He cleaned the medbay floors, while Amy was going full ham with her stolen energy shield and ion rifle, shooting at marines while there were active security in medbay, totally able to take said weapon and handle the situation. She neglected her duty as a nurse, and was quite well validhunting the antags. She touched a door that had been previously shocked by an AI, burning her hand off (it glitched and the ion rifle stuck to her stump). Ward laughed at her, and stopped to make a remark about a shaft miner that was stopping to help her, "Ha, look its the one-handed terrorist and her laborer boyfriend." She pulled out a crowbar and smacked him in the chest, causing an open wound. By this point, I had already issued her a warning. Ward had done nothing but help medbay, even if he was annoying most of the crew alive at that point, but he meant good will. However, having taken an assault rifle from a fallen marine onto his back, he equipped and shot Amy full of holes until she fell to the ground dead. This was the last encounter of mine with Biabri this round. After, on the discord, I confronted them about this and they spoke down to me about it, saying I had no authority or reason to make a complaint about it. I spoke to SirCatnip about it, and he said the escalation was justified. Originally I wasn't going to make a complaint, as it shows in the discord images, but after seeing a few more rounds of how they play, I really felt I need to. It needs to be addressed. She seems to jump at the notion of antags, calling them demons and going straight for guns and weapons. That seems counterproductive for a Nurse or any medical staff. We have security onboard for just precisely that reason. To handle threats, external and internal. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? SirCatnip , he said I could make a complaint if I felt it was needed, and stated that the escalation was justified, though I should be more careful about that sort of escalation. GREEEEEEEEENbrown Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Dionaea seem well-liked by the crew, and for good reason: They aren't shitheads. I've never really seen an antag dionae that wasn't a raider, and even then it wasn't openly malicious. I've been seeking a more passive character recently, and I believe the dionae will provide a good cultural outlet for the quieter, more "chill with life" characters that i've been craving. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Humans are vastly multicultural. So far that you could literally make anything up, and it would stick as long as you stuck to the gig. When we create alien races, we define them by a stereotypical set of virtues or mindsets that would define them mentally by their race. It's difficult to achieve a truly "Diverse" alien race, but there are some that come close. The Dionae are plant-animal-fungus creatures that most commonly are mistaken for a living plant, however to assume they are only plant-based is incorrect. They more represent a genesis of life, an ancient race and biology that comes from an unknown source, perhaps even spaceborne to begin with. Entirely possible. This exotic origin leads them to not have a few emotions that can occur commonly in humans or other biological species: Homesickness. The desire to "return home" isn't found in Dionae, as their only "home" was the cluster the gestalt parted from. A "home" for a diona would even be a hydroponics tray by the local botanist. So, the variety of origins can lead to some interesting views on the reality around them, and it seems the most common personality to have come of this is a slow-thinking, slow-speaking, serene giant, gentle or otherwise. Dionae are, after all, a singular creature known as a Diona, or a Nymph. It is a small wriggly root-like creature that will form itself together as a singular unit with multiple other nymphs to create a Dionae, better known as a worker or a gestalt. These are a commune of nymphs who combine into a singular "unit" that acts as a council in itself. Each word is a nymph giving thoughts to the others in its council, forming sentences based on the agreements made between them. Such methods of communication have led people to believe that they are slow, sometimes leading to a second or two in between each word. If one were to shoot a Dionae, it would dissipate into its individual nymphs given enough damage, and then to which each nymph would individually die off, effectively killing the gestalt. They do not require food, however, and can simply survive on photosynthesis or an intake of radiation, making them perfect for the engineering division. Character Name: Fronds on the Hull Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Fronds awoke as a singular nymph, birthed from the tray of fresh water and delicious synthetic nutrients, aboard the Aurora II. A new Diona, born into Tau Ceti with a constant chirp to its tone and an adoration for company, the curious creature had gone about its ways, sipping blood and learning languages as quickly as it could. The longer it survived this way, the more it realized there were possibilities to expand, to sate this thirst for knowledge and sociability. Skittering back to its creator, it begged in a rustling chirp, "More! More of us!" Who could say No to a blood-drinking root critter with that big ol' green eye? So, with a sign-off from the research director aboard, four more were planted and harvested, each sharing the data that Frond had collected, learning languages by sharing the DNA Frond had willingly, or, unwillingly sampled from the crew. The Fronds, as they called themselves, took about to a corner of the lab, out of the way of the xenobotanist, and began to pile on one another. Interlocking their bodies, they stood tall, five nymphs to the gestalt as they rustled in unison, "Fronds on the hull. Hsssk Hsk." They chittered and rustled in excitement, much to the xenobotanist's frustration. For the remainder of the shift, Fronds would not leave him alone, asking him a question about every muscle twitch he made. The questions, however many they might have been, were slowing down with each inquiry, as the individual nymphs, aside from the original Frond, started to desire their own questions to ask, wanting to know different things from the xenobotanist but unsure of which order to ask them in. The problem came about: It became too excited, and had to take each question slowly, almost immediately followed by another question as it tried to organize its inquiries. Finally, the xenobotanist cracked and called, "IAA! Get a contract down to science, get this quizbot out of my lab!" A short, messy signature later and Fronds wore pants and an ID card, rustling and excited about the prospect of being able to move on its own, to ask its own questions, and to fulfill this new job they called "Janitor". An exciting prospect, surely. What do you like about this character? I like the idea of a station-grown gestalt. I'm not sure I've met anyone else that's done it but I'm sure that I am definitely not the first to have this idea. As for a geneology of the "Seeds" that the nymphs sprout from, I'm not quite sure if there is an ability to tell or if the personalities of nymphs would originate from the cluster they came from. If I had a choice, I'd like to say these were spore-harvested from the Reade Colossus, which would explain the sociability of the character. In fact, it might just explain most of the nymphs I see running around the station, blood sucking little crappers. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10, I could always learn more from the people around me. Nobody's perfect, and I sure wouldn't want to claim to be. Notes: "Hsk hsk!"

BYOND Key: ClearThoughts Character Names: Qimul-Omal Tju'Yullra - Security Officer Hidashi Toda'keri - Researcher Manirin Satari'Noran - Research Director Joseph Ward - Radio Host / Journalist Gwali Gesska - Janitor Nil'Opga Otyk'Qlalua-Ellu - Chaplain James Beckett - Head of Security Inaaya Vihaan - Chief Engineer Elor'orus Sarnorin-Peiros - Librarian Liwish-Malai Gobi - Captain Species you are applying to play: IPC/Synthetic/Shell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Ye. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, I've always been intrigued by the idea of an independent synthetic construct operating on a neural network or some algorithmic logic that developed its own personality, or rather had a pre-installed personality that it interacted with others with. Out of the four races that I've yet to get a whitelist for (Diona, IPC, Catbeasts, and Bugs Life cosplayers), IPCs seem to be the most interesting to me, or rather, the ones that both Interest me and are understandable enough that I wish to play them. (Damn you dionae, I will understand you yet!) Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They. .Aren't human at all? Difficult to answer, but my best explanation is that they are the products of humanity. Something that the Skrell would verily wish destroyed, but humans seem to soldier on despite countless warnings and bombed-out Skrellian cities, and despite these warnings the humans continue to produce them ANYWAYS. . Off track. The point being is that each IPC was created for a purpose, unlike humans or other organics that were simply bred for the sheer desire to copulate or for a continuation of lineage. Synthetics, including IPCs are purpose-built, as seen in the station-bound cyborgs, androids, and even industrial frames occasionally seen taking occupation aboard the Aurora in various usages. They can range anywhere from a beeping, blooping stack of circuitry and hydraulics that make indistinguishable noises to the human ear, to fancy, human-like shells that could very well be the next evolution in cybernetic-organic infiltration. Scary. Or erotic? Character Name: Jennifer Quark Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs "Jackson. You're assigned for the Elektro project. The shell study. We expect that you will provide us with a likeable and realistic product that will surprise the board. . Understand?" Seven years ago this was the highest order of magnitude ever to shake up Lyle Jackson's life. One line issued to a major project, an undertaking to build a new kind of Shell, based around the standardized positronic brains that had become a staple of the integrated chassis world, and only but a single requirement: It must be marketable. He had thought long about what exactly he would consider marketable, and found nothing in his head. As if all his life had been full of ideas, but the one moment that it all came together, his head remained empty. . Day after day he worked and toiled, organizing the pieces. Synthskin, check! He chose wisely, the prototype would maintain a cocoa-butter complexion, brown eyes and seamless plating, a stout form with long legs and.. Perhaps he got a bit carried away in design, but his overall idea was coming together. She'd have a short blue mohawk and.. Holy moly, this was looking familiar. Jennifer Quark?! That ancient comic book? Did. .. Did I really just make a. .An entire prototype without seeing this?! The matter became true enough as he looked on at his creation, half-finished and unprogrammed, but as he looked down to his PDA, flipping through his collected digital copies of comics until it landed on the front page of The Daring Adventures of Jennifer Quark!:Prime Investigator "Oh Jeez." Lyle said aloud as a gut reaction, looking back up to the conundrum of his that was only a missing hair away from an exact copy of the illustrated heroine, "How am I going to explain this?" Perhaps a large waste of company resources and fabrication, but something sprang into his mind, "..I have more. I have more of these, right?" He began flipping furiously through his various comics, finding another suitably human-looking character, one of Jennifer Quark's arch-nemeses: Indomitable Barbaritron, a rogue industrial machine that grew its own desires and feelings, corrupted then by the dark energies of the nether dimensions. It modified itself with industrial equipment, becoming quite a menace to space stations everywhere. "These are possible.. Their d-designs need reworking but.. Holy cannoli, we can make these heroes a reality!" And so began Lyle in renewed fury, working himself to the bone over the coming weeks, day and night, rarely stopping for food, water, or sociability in his passion to complete his work. It all came down to that one moment he'd been waiting for, the on-switch. . Figuratively. The initial boot and verification was a success, followed by the personality imprint. Easy enough, he figured, uploading possible dialogue from a collection quips, quotes, and scenes in which Jennifer Quark was being. . Herself. //BOOTING Ms. Quark opened her eyes, standing up out of her assembly chair and right into action, "You won't get away with it, you beguiled beguiler, you crooner of chaos! Barbari-. . What?" Lyle was starry-eyed and awestruck, "Holy shit." Perhaps the first curse of his life, and well-deserved. It seemed like his creation had really come to life. A short, confusing (and perhaps gleeful from Lyle's point of view) briefing later, Ms. Quark was issued her costume, and the two went to present her in front of the board. The Elektro Hero series became a smash hit as entertainment, their egos and personalities on stage or in performance became the stuff of magazines and news everywhere, until one day, the mysterious Ms. Quark disappeared from underneath watchful eyes, gone in a flash of light from inside of her dressing room to god-knows-where, and. . Oddly, Barbaritron meeting a similar fate. What do you like about this character? I've never been much into Actual DC vs Marvel comics because of their style, but having been really into a bunch of community-made comic series and smalltime artists making their go at a comic, I've been infatuated with the idea of comics-to-reality. I feel like Quark would be fun as an antag, perhaps, but I'm not sure she could fall completely into a role aboard the station. Wizard, perhaps? The whole story, whether used or not, is simply a measure of the thought I try to put into my characters when I make them. It starts off as a feeling. A vibe, or otherwise generality of what I want to make, and base a character Around that vibe, expanding it until I'm either satisfied or the person listening has simply become bored of my lore. Eheh.. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10, I can always learn something. Notes: None, really, just excited for the prospect to play an IPC.

I will take what you said into consideration for next time. Thank you for remaining civil in this report. I hope to see you in game again so that we can make better experiences for the crew, perhaps with less elevator shafts this time. <3 -
Antag Ban Request for player ClearThoughts
ClearThoughts replied to JKJudgeX's topic in Ban Requests Archive
Hi, Clear here, I played Rikitikitiki the Vox Raider. Normal raid mission, go in, steal vault, come back to ship, beers all around. Dutch, a member of the raid team and self proclaimed leader begins making these (Fairly badass) scaffold walkways for us to maneuver around the various pitfalls of the station's asteroid layers, and suddenly we see mercs below us. Standing on some sort of sandstone-looking tiles, we realize that we were atop the merc ship. . And they just left. For some reason, two tiles of the merc ship are actually open to the upper layer, meaning one could very well jump down and receive the MASSIVE fall damage for an 8-10ft fall that our code currently has for dropping a z-level. Dutch and co. begin talking about what to do, because we sure as hell dont have a ladder, a hoist, or otherwise, and meaning if we jumped down and all got injured to death, there would be no reprise. So! I figure as the only vox and with a very high brute resist, "Riki go! Riki jump!", I walk over to the hole, expecting the crew to say "Riki, WAIT", which, not to any surprise, they say "Riki, no. Don't jump." Riki replies simply, "Okidoke." And I wait, magic-stick and spear launcher in hand. Dutch walks over, and aggro-grabs me, throwing me down the hole anyway. Hurray. . .Now i'm inside the ship, located where that little interrogation room is, inside the glass pillar. I break it open, step out with minor injury and say "Riki inside! Riki gonna fly ship!" I lock down the outer airlock (Much to the mercs disdain), and I come back to see my compatriots on the floor, all with broken bones and internal bleeding. . . .Great. Now I have to play Vox Surgeon. They start moaning and complaining that this was a bad idea, but overall glad that they just took the merc's ship from out underneath them. Riki goes to work, taking the worst shape members of the team and grabbing them to the surgery, fixing them one by one. The rest of the crew decided to walk over, which ruined their bones even further past the point of no return (55+brute to upper body fracture. Irreparable without advanced medicine, to which I did not have on hand in the merc ship.) After roughly an hour and a half of pure surgeries trying to at least rectify their internal bleeding and multiple attempts to fix their bones, I came to the conclusion that their fractures could not be solved. Nothing I had could fix them. Schev afterwards reminded me to put "a trauma kit to their chest, peridaxon, or sleeper medication" Which, I had, but lacked the advanced medication and the sleeper didnt put out anything useful that would fix them. I was frustrated that we got Zero interaction with anyone other than ourselves. Sure, it was funny as hell listening to all of the raiders beg a VOX of all things to fix them, but after just. . So many surgeries, I got frustrated. This wasn't the round I felt I had in mind, and so I made another attempt at fixing Salty Jackson (JKJudgex), performing the standardized bone-repair surgery. Bone kept fracturing at the end step, so there wasn't any repairing him. Yes, he was on a surgical table, Yes, I used surgical implements. He had 58 brute to his upper body, and therefore could not be resolved, just as Snake (Ckey unavailable) and Dutch (Ckey unavailable) were. Jimmy, I believe it was, was fine and grabbed a wizard spacesuit and an assault rifle and said "Im gonna go fuck people up" and moved the ship to the station. It was around this time I went "Yknow what, Riki's gonna make fireworks." So I grabbed the half-conscious, collapsed body of Salty Jackson, placed the standard merc-bomb in his bag with a 28 second timer, and threw him into the yellow (left) dock of departures, roundabouts halfway in. I locked the ship hull doors, and roundabouts 30 seconds later the bomb goes off, and some vaurca started going "UHHH bomb in yellow dock, explodings!" Originally, I meant to throw him into space to bomb that, but despite Riki telling Jimmy to NOT move the ship to THEIR FRONT DOOR, it was done anyway, and Riki just threw him from there. RIP Salty Jackson, ye who lived without ribs. Schev met with me afterwards and gave me a warning, stating "We expect higher RP from those allowed to play antagonists on our station" Understandable, but at the time I was so frustrated that I did not understand what he meant by it. I felt that I had adequately roleplayed my round, and that I saw (albeit a little) little issue with what I did. I knew the bomb's radius, I knew it wouldn't breach departures wing, and I knew Salty wasn't going to be fixed. To me, it seemed like enough safeties to be a valid salad. After all, one other Raider decided to go full rambo with a C10 just five seconds earlier, for no other reason than "I wanna go fuck shit up". What went wrong? Well, as JKJudge spoke to me, I felt that the RNG of the code took the round away from me. I may as well have just played surgeon. It felt like we were more of a self-contained round, which in hindsight I guess I was fine with, but my frustration wanted something as compensation. I know your characters, Judge, and I respect Corvo a lot, especially that you play him with a young, slightly naive gusto. It brings life to the administration beyond "security do this, security do that. research make guns. engineering fix the engine.", and after a night of thinking of a proper response, I am sorry about what transpired. It was wrong of me to try to "compensate" anything from the round. It was a bad round, and I should have just left it as it was and waited for the next round. However, I have already received a warning from this from the staff, and I ask that the process stops there. Respectfully submitted, ClearThoughts
